  1187.
Aboo Hurayrah radhiallaahu`anhu reported: The Messenger of Allaah
Sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam said, "He who observes optional prayer
(Taraaweeh prayers) throughout Ramadhaan, out of sincerity of Faith and in
the hope of earning reward will have his past sins pardoned.''
  [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim].
  1188.
Aboo Hurayrah radhiallaahu`anhu reported: The Messenger of Allaah
Sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam used to urge (the people) to perform
(optional Taraaweeh) prayer at night during the month of Ramadhaan. He did
not order them or make it obligatory on them. He Sall Allaahu`alayhi wa
sallam said, "Whosoever performs (optional Taraaweeh) prayers at night
during the month of Ramadhaan, with Faith and in the hope of receiving
Allaah's reward, will have his past sins forgiven.'' [Muslim].

  Commentary:
This Hadeeth highlights the following points:
  1. Qiyaam in
the month of Ramadhaan is a much-stressed act and has great importance
from the viewpoint of reward and award.
  2. The sins
which are pardoned through it are minor sins because major sins are not
forgiven unless one makes sincere repentance and compensates those whom he
  has wronged.
  3. That
Qiyaam during the month of Ramadhaan was the practice of the Prophet Sall
Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam. During the course of a Ramadhaan, he made Qiyaam
for three nights consecutively, that is, he performed this Nafl Salaat in
congregation with his Companions. On the fourth night, when his Companions
gathered for this purpose he said to them, "I am afraid it will be made
obligatory for you.'' So, in spite of their desire to join him in this
prayer, he did not lead the Salaat that night. How many Rak`aah did he
perform in congregation in these three nights is a pertinent question
here. According to Ahadeeth their total comes to eleven; eight Rak`aah and
three Witr. Thus the Masnun number of Rak`aah of Qiyaam Ramadhaan is
  eleven.
  4. This Nafl
Salaat has been interpreted in Ahadeeth as Qiyaam Ramadhaan. Later on they
were named Taraaweeh. Taraaweeh is the plural of Tarweehah. Since the
Companions of the Prophet Sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam and the successors
to the Companions used to make a lengthy Qiyaam in them and they would
take rest after performing every four Rak`aah. This is how these came to
be named Taraaweeh (Rest prayer). (Four Rak`aah are called Tarweehah).

  5. Taraaweeh
are in fact Tahajjud prayers. For the sake of convenience and benefit of
the maximum number of people, it is performed in the month of Ramadhaan
soon after `Isha' prayer, along with the latter, which is the early time
  for Tahajjud prayers.
  6. That the
Taraaweeh were performed in congregation is established from the conduct
of the Prophet Sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam. He led this Salaat on 23rd,
25th and 27th of Ramadhaan. During his caliphate, `Umar radhiallaahu`anhu
started it again and ordered Ubayy bin K`ab and Tamim Ad-Dari to perform
them in congregation. He enjoined them to perform eight Rak`aah Taraaweeh
and three Rak`aah Witr. This practice has been going on ever since.

  7. Some
people say that performing Taraaweeh in congregation is a Bid`ah
(innovation in religion) because it was introduced in the reign of `Umar
radhiallaahu`anhu. But this is not correct because it is established that
the Prophet Sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam did not continue it out of fear
that it will be made obligatory; otherwise he would have carried on with
it. When the fear that this practice be made obligatory was over, `Umar
radhiallaahu`anhu gave it the form of a Nafl prayer and revived the mode
of performing it collectively, and thus fulfilled the desire of the
Prophet Sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam. In spite of all these facts, it is
still permissible for one to perform Taraaweeh individually in the late
hours of the night. Since ordinary people are not capable of performing it
individually, the step taken by `Umar radhiallaahu`anhu is perfectly
correct. If this had not been done, the majority of the

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] The Journey of Muslim Brotherhood With Art

Dear members,

Assalamu Alaikum. Please read this article from Ikhwanul

The
Journey of Muslim Brotherhood With Art

Ahmad Zein, Ikhwanweb - Cairo,
  Egypt

Wednesday, September 20,
  2006

The relationship of Muslim Brotherhood (MB) - and all the Islamists-
with art, is not restricted to their intellectual and juristic output in
  art issues and problems.The MB relation with art was different;
the early rectified activities of MB with art and its nature don't relate
to the current worrying and apprehensive situation which the group reached
after half century. Ambiguous and weak intellectual and juristic opinions
of MB is far different from practice, which was different from
theorization andwas brave enough to solve the problems hindering the
  MB jurists, intellectuals and callers.
  Beginning with constructive artIn 1928,
when Hassan Al Banna founded his group- MB- art was one of the most
important fields which identified his group as a comprehensive reformist
one.A number of thoughts and conditions allowed Al Banna and his
group to have a pivotal role concerning art, among which are;-Al
Banna'supbringing as a Sufi, which helped him broadens his Salafi
and Sunni horizons and understanding.- The nature of his
comprehensive reformist project, which introduces Islam as a way of life,
unlike the traditional way of the scholars. So, recreation and fun did
exist in his vison of art.- The particularity of this phase in
which Egypt- in spite of the British occupation brutality- led a real
liberal era that flourished freedom and movement, which were reflected in
intellectual and political trends including the Islamic ones.Al
Banna spent a lot of time changing the negative idea implanted in the
religious' minds about art; he left the theoretical approach aside,
preferring the practical one i.e.the constructive useful art.
Artbecame a message, not a target.Al Banna included several
religious songs and sketches in his group formation programs to be
presented in journeys and parties, even in the group's private religious
  meetings.
"oh, ye brothers" a song wrote by Sheikh Hassan
Albaquri, was the most prominent among enthusiastic religious songs which
helpshore upthe bases and mobilize them in a revolutionary
rhythm with attractive words:Oh, ye brothers don't
hesitateover your prophet's water basin(in the day of judgment)The
paradise is calling you, so replyWithIslam you can live
  joyfully
  The MB Theater
The most distinguished developmentduring this period concerning
MB and art, was the foundation of MB theater by Abdurrahman Al Banna. It
was the first Islamic theater named "the MB theater", and It was
surprising that it began with romantic and emotional play, named "Jamilu
Bithaina", a famous historical and romantic story!
It's worthy saying that the MB theater ignored the traditional
questions-–they do exist till now- about women participation in artistic
works, and the concerned intellectual issues. Women participated in this
theater, among them were prominent actresses in the Egyptian cinema, such
as Fatima Rushdie. They played on famous theaters, like
the Opera. The administration of the theater was from the MB
members and outsiders, even non-Muslims; the head ofadvertisement
departmentwas Christian! The theater achieved a big success-
according to the then criteria- it was a popular theater, going from one
place to another- not just for the nobles in Cairo, butspread
tomany villages and cities of Egypt where MB enjoyed a strong
presence. The theater contributed to the emergence of prominent actors,
such as Muhammad Alsab', Abdulbadi' Alarabi, Mahmoud
Almeligi,Serag Munir, Ibrahim Alshami and Abdulmoe'm Madbouli who
become a distinguished figure in one of the famous Arab comedy schools
known as (Madboulism)It is said that, Hassan Al Banna tried to
enter this field by the help of some religious actors, such as
Hussein Sedqi, who dissociated himself from art and
burned some of his films negatives. It is also said that Sedqi was
affected-during hislast days- by his intellectual and personal
relation with late Sayed Qutub. But the relationship between Al Banna and
  Sedqi-not historically asserted- was
  fruitless.Theclash with the 1952 revolution,
  andthe influence ofWahhabismAfter the
"Free Officers' Revolution", in1952, a new phase began. The leaders of the
revolution clashed with the MB in1954, which led to complete and violent

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] CNN, retired colonel military operations inside Iran

2006-09-22 Thread G.Waleed Kavalec

Col. Sam Gardiner on CNN, 9/18/06BLITZER: How likely is the U.S. strike against Iran? And would it lead to all-out war? Joining us now is retired U.S. Air Force colonel Sam Gardiner. He has taught strategy and military operations at the National War College, the Air War College, and the Naval War College. Colonel thanks very much for coming in. He just prepared a paper for the Century Foundation entitled Considering the
U.S. Military Option For Iran. You speak to a lot of people plugged in. What is your bottom line? How close in your opinion is the Bush Administration to giving that go ahead.GARDINER: It's been given. In fact, we've probably been executing military operations inside Iran for at least 18 months. The evidence is overwhelming
BLITZER: Wait. Wait. Let me press you. GARDINER: Sure. BLITZER: When you say it's been given. The president says he wants diplomacy to work to convince the Iranian government to stop enriching uranium, not go forward. I would tell the Iranian people that we have no desire for conflict. He told David Ignatius of the Washington Post the other day. So what does that mean, the order has been given?
GARDINER: We are conducting military operations inside Iran right now. The evidence is overwhelming. From both the Iranians, Americans, and from congressional sources. BLITZER: What is military operation? Define that.
GARDINER: Sure. They probably have had two objectives going back 18 months. The first was to gather intelligence. Where is the Iranian nuclear program? The second has been to prepare dissident groups for phase two which will be the strike, which will come as the next phase, I think.
BLITZER: Preparing intelligence, that's understandable using all sorts of means. They want to know what the Iranians are up to in terms of their nuclear program. But are you suggesting that U.S. military forces, special operations forces, or others are on the ground right now in Iran.
GARDINER: Yes, sir. Certainly. Absolutely clear the evidence is overwhelming from lots of sources, and, again, most of them you can read in the public. Seymore Hersch has done good work on it. There are lots of other people who have done that. I have talked to Iranians. I asked an Iranian ambassador to the IAEA, what's this I hear about Americans being there? He said to me, well, we've captured some people who worked with them. We've confirmed that they're there.
BLITZER: Yeah, but, you know, these guys — the Iranians, you can't necessarily believe what they're saying. They could arrest some dissidents in Iran and say these are American spies. They do that all the time.
GARDINER: Sure. Sure. The House Committee on Emerging Threats tried to have a hearing some weeks ago in which they asked the Department of State and Defense to come and answer this question because it's serious enough to be answered without congressional approval, and they didn't come to the hearing. There are sources that I have talked to on the Hill who believe that that's true and that it's being done without congressional oversight.
BLITZER: Look, I was once a Pentagon correspondent many years ago, and in those days and in these days, as Jamie McIntire just reported, and as you well know from your time in active duty in the Pentagon, in the U.S
. military, these guys are planning contingency operations for almost everything. If Canada goes to war against the United States, they have a contingency plan. GARDINER: Okay, two differences. Number one, we have learned from TIME Magazine today that some
U.S. naval forces had been alerted for deployment. That is a major step. That's first. Second thing is the sources suggest the plan that's not in the Pentagon. The plan has gone to the White House. That's not normal planning. When the plan goes to the White House, that means we've gone to a different state.
BLITZER: You think it's possible there is a little psychological warfare being played on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to rattle him. To spread the word. To put out this kind of information. To get him nervous, perhaps a little bit more agreeable to the diplomatic option.
GARDINER: It's possible. It's also possible that this path was selected a long time ago. You recall that even before Gulf II that a time when the president said we have no plan. I have no plan on my desk. In the summer of 2002 we began bombing Iraq. Operation Southern Focus, without congressional approval, without the
U.N. sanctions, we went ahead and began bombing. BLITZER: The argument at that time is if there were violations of the no-fly zone, U.S. war planes were flying in the north and the south and there were rockets or anti-aircraft fire going up, they could take those out.
GARDINER: Yes, but it was a campaign to begin the war before the war began. You know, I would suggest the evidence is there. BLITZER: You see a similar pattern right now. GARDINER: Exactly.
BLITZER: We're going to follow this closely. Colonel Sam Gardener, thank you very much. We look

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Keeping Appointments, Delays and Cancellation

2006-09-22 Thread Sadia Qureshi

Keeping Appointments, Delays and CancellationShaykh Abdul Fattah Abu GhuddaIn the first verse of Surah al-Ma'idah, Allah called upon the believers: "O you who believe! Fulfill your promises." [5:1] In Surah Maryam, Allah also praised Prophet Ismail: "He was true to his promise, He was a Messenger and a Prophet." [19:54] Keeping appointments is vital to our lives. Time is the most precious commodity; once wasted, it can never be recovered. If you made an appointment, whether with a friend, colleague or for business, you should do your utmost to keep this appointment. This is the right of the other persons who, despite other conimitments, favored you with a part of their valuable time. If you do not come on time, not only have you disrupted their schedule but you have also marred your image and reputation. If your punctuality becomes poor you will lose people's respect. You should keep all your appointments whether
they are with an important person, a close friend or a business colleague. You will then be responding to the call of Allah in Surah al-Isra: "And keep the promise; the promise is a responsibility." [17:34] It is enough to know that our kind Prophet, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, gave an appointment to one of his companions. The companion came three days later. The Prophet, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, gently reprimanded him saying: "You have caused me some trouble. I have been waiting for you for three days."The companion probably had an excuse for this delay; however, he had no means by which to inform the Prophet, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, about his inability to keep the appointment. Today, fast and reliable communication means are available everywhere. Therefore, as soon as you realize you will be unable to keep an appointment, you should inform the other parties to enable them to utilize their time elsewhere. Do not be careless or irresponsible
assuming that since the appointment is relatively unimportant, it does not merit a notice or an apology. This is totally irrelevant. Regardless of its importance, an appointment is a commitment that should be kept or properly cancelled in advance. Never make a promise while intending not to keep it. This is forbidden as it falls within lying and hypocrisy. Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated that the Prophet said: "Three traits single out a hypocrite, even if he prays or fasts and claims to be Muslim: If he speaks, he lies. If he makes a promise, he does not keep it. If he is entrusted, he betrays the trust." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] Imam Al-Ghazali in al-Ihya explains that this hadith is applicable to those who promise while intending not to fulfill it, or those who, without an excuse, decide later not to fulfill the promise. Those who promise but could not fulfill their promise due to a proper excuse are not hypocrites. But we should be careful not to present a
false excuse, as Allah knows our inner thoughts and intentions. taken from: www.islaam.com "The way to bring akhira into our dunya is through remembrance...you have to remember. Whenever you see fire, remember jahannam; whenever you see boiling oil, remember the drinks of the people of jahannam; whenever you see something gruesome, remember that it is a lot better than the food of the people of the hell-fire; and whenever you see something good in dunya, remember that it is nothing compared to what Allah has prepared for His servants in Jannah. Always make those associations." - Imam Anwar al Awlaki in his lecture, Importance of the Afterlife

You are violating him. We feel totally disgusted with your action and we condemn you without any reservation. Don't come to our mosques to preach this hatred. Don't visit our Islamic centers to spill the blood of innocents. Don't think that just because we share the same religion, we would show some sympathy to you. You are not of us. You don't
belong to the religion whose followers are trying to live a peaceful life for themselves and others serving the divine according to their understanding. In our understanding of faith, you appear as anti-divine and anti-human. We reject you now as we rejected you yesterday. There is nothing common between you and us. We stand for life, you want to destroy it. We accept the divine scheme of diversity in the world and you want to impose conformity. We respect every human being simply because he or she is a creation of the divine, and you hate people based on their religion and ethnicity. We support freedom and liberty and justice, and you promote bigotry, murder and strangulation. You will never be able to find a sympathetic voice amidst us. Our differences with others will never lead us to do
things that are fundamentally wrong in our faith, i. e. taking the lives of innocent people and

Christianity - Islam -some references.

Ignorance on the part of those who dispute !

Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him was foretold in the Bible:
1- In the New Testament:
Being like the teacher. An 11-page PDF file that contains ample proofs from
Aramaic showing that the word 'Muslim' was mentioned by Jesus himself.
In the Gospel of John: Muhammad is mentioned by the name and was foretold in
the Gospel of John. This is a must read article! It proves that Jesus peace
be upon him predicted for the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him to come
after him.
The Aramaic Bible predicts the coming of Muhammad by the exact word.
Further proofs from the Aramaic Bible Society. A very good proof from the
Aramaic Bible Society web site regarding Muhammad's name mentioned in the
Greek Bible. This is a must visit link!!.
Jesus told the Jews that GOD Almighty will take His Kingdom from them and
give it to the Muslims.
2- In the Book of Isaiah:
Isaiah 42-54 predicts Islam, and the removal of GOD Almighty's Covenant from
the people of Israel.
In the Book of Isaiah: Isaiah in the Bible foretold the story of Al-alak
that is in the Noble Quran about Muhammad. Isaiah in the Bible foretold
the story of Al-alak in the Noble Quran which happened to Muhammad and
never happened to any other Prophet. It is the story where the Angel
Gabriel repeatedly commands the Prophet to read, and the Prophet (i.e.
Muhammad) repeatedly replies I can't read.
Isaiah's Vision: He saw Jesus riding a donkey and Muhammad riding a camel.
He also saw the destruction of Babylon (i.e. Iraq today) and its idol gods,
and replacing them with a Divine Religion (i.e. Islam today).
Prophet Muhammad was foretold in Isaiah 42.
Muhammad in the Bible, (Isaiah 60), Pilgrimage to Mecca..!
Islamic Fasting was predicted by Isaiah in the Bible.

Deuteronomy 18:18's Prophet is non other than Prophet Muhammad.
The great nation of Ishmael and its definition in the Bible.
The fall of pagan Babylon to pagan Persia in the Bible, and then the fall of
pagan Persia (Iran + Iraq) to Islam.
The story of King Heraclius of the Byzantine and the foretold Prophet
(Muhammad) in the Bible. See how he was convinced that Prophet Muhammad of
Arabia was indeed the foretold Prophet that Jesus predicted to come.
The emigration of the Muslims to Madina was foretold in the Bible.
The story of the 10,000 Muslims who liberated Mecca (Paran) in the Bible.
Pilgrimage of Ezekiel to Mecca.

Muslim commanded to respect and believe in Moses, Jesus and all messenger of
God (one who deny any messengers of God then he will not counted as Muslim)
As well as Qur’an commending not to insult other’s worshiping objects:
6:108. Do not insult those whom they worship beside (God)…..

What Pop and Bush doing is same, I strongly believe it is because of their
faith and they are implementing what their books preaching to them.

But Pope Benedict should self-criticise Christianity's violent past and
present before
commenting on the other faith.

FACTS AND ONLY FACTS

The only religious book on the face of the earth which has given permission
to kill innocents including women and children is the Holy Bible.

! NEW TESTAMENT (quotations taken from New RSV Bible)

“Do not think that I (Jesus) have come to bring peace to the earth, I have
not come to bring peace, but sword” (Mathew 10:34).

OLD TESTAMENT (quotations taken from New RSV Bible)

Thus says the Lord of the host, “I will punish the Amalekites for what they
did in opposing the Israelites when they came up out of Egypt. Now go and
attack Amalek and utterly destroy all that they have, do not spare them, but
kill both man and women, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkeys”

2006-09-22 Thread G.Waleed Kavalec

Ashamed to be an AmericanSeptember 18, 2006 8:14 AM |By DOUG THOMPSONI never thought I would reach the point where I was ashamed of my country.I was wrong.I've loved America for most of my 58 years. I've fought for her, killed for
her, bled for her and damn near died for her more than once.I served my country even when I thought she was wrong because I felt it wasmy duty as an American to do so.But I can no longer do so. America today has become what we always stood up
against: A tyrant, a destroyer of freedom, an international murderer with noregard for human rights or life, no morality and no belief in the rule oflaw.America now threatens the peace of the world far more than any terrorist
group, any communist country or any tinhorn dictator with a suitcase nuke.I lived with the Americans for one year and eight months as if I wasliving in hell, Baghdad shopkeeper Amjad Qassim al-Aliyawi told The
Associated Press after he was released from 20 months in captivity withoutever being charged with a crime or even being told what he was suspected ofdoing.According to an AP investigative report, the American government holds some
14,000 detainees in secret prisons around the world. Few have any idea whythey are held, all are denied legal representation or even given details ofthe charges against them and many are later released without explanation or
even an apology. If you, God forbid, are an innocent Afghan who gets sold down the river bysome warlord rival, you can end up at Bagram and you have absolutely no wayof clearing your name, says John Sifton of Human Rights Watch in New York.
You can't have a lawyer present evidence, or do anything organized to getyourself out of there.Evidence continues to mount that many of these prisoners are tortured inways that violate the Geneva Convention, the international accord that
governs how civilized nations are supposed to treat prisoners of war andPresident George W. Bush reminds us constantly that we at war withterrorism. But America is really at war with itself, attacked from within by a madman
President who claims a divine mission from God, waging a fierce battleagainst the principles that once guided this nation and set it above thosewho treated human life with callous disregard and claimed any means, no
matter how barbaric, justified the cause.America is no longer respected by its allies, admired on the world stage ortrusted by its own citizens. Polls show an overwhelming majority ofAmericans think Bush's lies-based war in Iraq was a monumental mistake. Most
also think the President of the United States is dishonest and that ourgovernment lies to us on a regular basis.Sadly, they are right. The Iraq war is an incredible FUBARETYMOLOGY: f(ucked) u(p) b(eyond) a(ll) r(ecognition)
that has destroyed a nation, created a new haven for terrorists and costmore American lives than the attack on the World Trade Center in New York.Bush is not only a serial liar but an unstable despot whose sanity is
increasingly doubted by members of his own family and party. He ignores thewill of the people he is supposed to serve, violates international law atwill and shreds the Constitution along with the freedoms it once protected.
America has detained without charges, and then released without explanationor apology, nearly 18,700 people since June 2004, the AP investigationfound. Many of those released tell horror stories of their treatment while
imprisoned, including torture by attaching electrical wires to genitalareas, waterboarding (creating the fear of drowning by submergingprisoners), use of dogs and threats of long-term imprisonment.Waleed Abdul Karim, 26, told the AP how his guards would wield their
absolute authority.Tell us about the ones who attack Americans in your neighborhood, hequoted an interrogator as saying, or I will keep you in prison for another50 years.
Such treatment only fuels hatred towards this country. I will hateAmericans for the rest of my life, Karim said.I understand why Karim hates Americans and the country they represent. Idon't hate America. I love my country but I hate what our so-called leaders
have done to her. Thanks to the illogical, illegal and insane actions of George W. Bush andthose who follow him, Americans can no longer hold their heads high and takepride in their country. Bush and his fellow terrorists have destroyed a
great country and I fear the damage may be permanent and irreparable-- -- -- G. Waleed Kavalec-When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land.
They said Let us pray. We closed our eyes. When we opened them we had the Bible and they had the land. -- Bishop Desmond Tutu

Astronomical Odds for a United Ramadan

By Tamer El-Maghraby**

When the Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) announced in August the exact date for the start of Ramadan based on astronomical calculations rather than actual sightings of the new moon, many around the world rose in protest over the validity of such a decision. This debate over visual sighting verses astronomical calculations is not a new one.

When the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR) announced in September the exact date for the start of Ramadan based on astronomical calculations that will adhere to actual sightings, little controversy arose. Resorting to astronomical calculations that support visual sighting has been going on for decades.

But when ECFR's date for Europe turned out to be one day later than FCNA's date for America because of these calculations, that's when things started to sound strange.
For decades, or even centuries, a debate has raged between those who support resorting to astronomical calculations to decide on the start and end of months on the Islamic calendar, and those who insist on following the age-long tradition of visual sighting of the newly born crescent. Each side has presented its arguments for and against the different positions, and most of the time each side has had little luck in convincing the other.

The debate, however, has always been over jurisprudence. Supporters of visual sighting stand on firm grounds when sticking literally to the text of hadiths (sayings of the Prophet Muhammad) that indicate that Ramadan should start when the new crescent is seen. Supporters of astronomical calculations quickly point out, however, that it is the spirit of the hadiths that should be followed, especially that back in the time of the Prophet, Muslims had no other means of accurately deciding the moon's age.

With most Muslims so far following visual sightings conducted by different bodies (governmental and nongovernmental) from around the world, Muslims in two neighboring countries could find themselves starting and ending the holy month on different days. Local communities in non-Muslim countries find themselves confused in many cases over which sighting to consider most credible, with families sometimes split down the middle as the members follow different dates.

Since astronomy gives us the exact timing of the birth of the new moon regardless of the menaces of visual sighting (cloudy skies, air pollution, looking in the wrong direction, etc.), can astronomical calculations help unify Muslims on starting Ramadan across the globe?

The Revelation
Come Ramadan 1427 (September–October 2006). Following astronomical calculations, FCNA announced that the first day of fasting will be on September 23, while ECFR announced that, astronomically speaking, Ramadan will start on September 24. So where is the mistake?

As it turns out, there is none. The decision made by FCNA (later adopted by ISNA, the Islamic Society of North America) was announced with the goal of unifying Muslims in the Western Hemisphere. Since astronomical calculations are precise enough to determine the time of birth of the new moon, FCNA decided that 12 noon Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) would become FCNA's reference point. If the new moon is born any time before that reference point, then that would give it enough time (12 to 18 hours) to mature before night falls on the Americas and hence Ramadan could start the following day. What FCNA is relying on is the possibility of a lunar sighting anywhere in the Western Hemisphere, without the actual need to do the sighting. On September 22, 2006, the new moon will actually be born at 11:45 GMT, hence satisfying FCNA's criteria for Ramadan to start on the 23rd.

The ECFR (European Council for Fatwa and Research) has set its criteria somewhat differently. In addition to the birth of the new moon, ECFR has also put into consideration the setting times of both the moon and the sun over Makkah as its specific reference point. For the new crescent to be observed in the sky, the moon must still be above the horizon after sunset — that is, the moon must still be in the sky as night falls. On the 22nd, the sun will set over Makkah at 6:18
p.m. local time, with the moon having set three minutes earlier.

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] My Plans This Ramadhaan

2006-09-22 Thread DDN

B
i s m i l l a a h i r R a h m a a n i r R a h e e
m

My Plans This
Ramadhaan

Ayub A.
Hamid

How should we -- simple, ordinary
Muslims -- spend this fasting month so that at the end of the
month we feel inner joy and true happiness knowing that our
‘Eed day will be the day of celebrating rewards from Allaah
  Subhaanahu wa Ta`aala?

Here is a sample plan that you can
use as your personal plan or use it as a model to develop your
  own personal plan:

This Ramadhaan, I will establish a
close relationship with the Qur-aan. I will give top priority
to increasing my knowledge and understanding of the contents
and message of the Qur-aan. I will recite and study the
Qur-aan with translation and tafseer regularly and steadily
throughout the month. I will not sleep after Fajr, but instead
study the Qur-aan at least for half an hour until I am ready
to go to school or work. Throughout the day, I will find time
to revise and re-learn the Soorahs and Aayaat I already know.
Once that is completed, I will learn at least one Aayah a day
from a Soorah I do not already know.

This Ramadhaan, I will sleep early,
soon after Ishaa. I will go to bed with clear and conscious
intention of fasting the next day, as well as with the
intention of getting up early for Tahajjud. Then, while
remembering Allaah, I will fall asleep. I will get up well
before Suhoor time, thanking Allaah Subhaanahu wa
Ta`aalafor giving me life, offer Tahajjud and then make
special Duaa for the mercy of Allaah on our Ummah, His help
for its success and well being, and His interference to foil
the plans of the enemy. I will also make special Duaa that
Allaah protects my Ummah, my family and me from the Dajjaal
  and his Fitnah.

Because time is a precious gift of
Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta`aalafor effective use of which I
will be held responsible, I will try to weed out any time
wasting activities from my daily routine. I will re-examine my
day-to-day activities and use the discipline of this month to
abandon at least one activity that is not conducive to or
effective in the attainment of Islamic objectives for which
Allaah has guided us to Islam. Because the value of time
increases several hundred folds during this month, to make
time for other more important Islamic activities, just for
this month, I will not watch TV at all, not even the news. My
knowing of what is shown in the news does not affect any
affairs of the world. Watching the news causes only
frustration, despair and anxiety. If I do not watch for a
month, it will not have any impact either on me, my Ummah or
the world at large. In addition, I can get a quick update of
news from a website in a few minutes any way. Thus, I rather
save my time from TV and spend it on my personal improvement
and building a close, personal relationship with Allaah,
rather than on an activity where I cannot make any
  difference.
(Unless I am one of those few Muslims who write
letters, articles or op-ed pieces to TV producers / anchors,
paper editors / columnists, politicians and media in general
to make Islamic points or to stand up for the Ummah. If I am
one of those, I will continue this Jihaad in
  Ramadhaan).

While fasting, I will make a special
effort to speak only to add value and
