Obama: Israel was forced to close Gaza Haaretz Wed., January 23, 2008 Rosner's Blog Shmuel Rosner Chief U.S. Correspondent 1.23.2008 The letter from the Senator to the Ambassador speaks for itself: Dear Ambassador Khalilzad, I understand that today the UN Security Council met regarding the situation in Gaza, and that a resolution or statement could be forthcoming from the Council in short order. I urge you to ensure that the Security Council issue no statement and pass no resolution on this matter that does not fully condenm the rocket assault Hamas has been conducting on civilians in southern Israel... All of us are concerned about the impact of closed border crossings on Palestinian families. However, we have to understand why Israel is forced to do this... Israel has the right to respond while seeking to minimize any impact on civilians. The Security Council should clearly and unequivocally condemn the rocket attacks... If it cannot bring itself to make these common sense points, I urge you to ensure that it does not speak at all. Bismillah [IslamCity] Dawah: Calling to Allah is Everyones Job
B i s m i l l a a h i r R a h m a a n i r R a h e e m As Salam-o-Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barkatuh Calling to Allah is Everyones Job Sheikh Salman al-Oadah Calling to Allah was the essential duty of all the Prophets (peace be upon them). In the Qurân, Allah gives Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) the following command: Say: This is my way; I call to Allah upon clear knowledge, I and those who follow me. Glory be to Allah! And I am not of those who engage in polytheism. [Sûrah Yûsuf: 108] The Prophet (peace be upon him) carried out this duty throughout his life. It was then taken up by his Companions and those who followed after them. The Muslims have been carrying this duty out ever since. Calling people to Allah is an activity that is open to all Muslims. It is not restricted to any group of people. It is not some exclusive discipline that can only be practiced within a narrow conceptual framework. It is a general volunteer enterprise that can be carried out by all Muslims in all walks of life. They can call people to Allah in in the context of all their lawful pursuits. It is a duty that should be carried out even by those Muslims who regard themselves as sinners. All people are sinners. We are all human, and we all make mistakes. If every sinner refrained from exhorting others to righteousness, then who would exhort others to righteousness after the Prophet (peace be upon him)? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: All the descendants of Adam are prone to err, and the best of those who err are those who are penitent. [Sunan Abî Dâwûd] Calling people to Allah is a duty that has been voluntarily carried out throughout the ages not only by preachers, scholars, and reformers, but by all those who care about Islam and the Muslims, and who long for Islam to spread. Today, these efforts can also be seen in peoples efforts for the uplifting and reform of society. There is no specialist cadre or social caste with an exclusive jurisdiction over Islamic work... ~ A person who gives good advice to others is a caller to Islam. ~ A person who provides social services is a caller to Islam. ~ A person engaged in humanitarian work is a caller to Islam. ~ The same can be said for a person who does charitable work, ~ or who supports reforms, ~ or who works for social justice, ~ or who seeks to dispel misinformation and misunderstandings. ~ Indeed, even someone who merely provides people with lawful alternatives to their sinful deeds is someone engaged in calling to Allah. This is because the person to whom you wish to present Islam needs a conducive environment to make it easy for him to accept what he is being called to. Therefore, ~ any effort we make to bring people to betterment or to take them away from wrongdoing is a step towards calling them to Allah. Such acts are virtuous and charitable, and we are enjoined to be charitable to others... Source: islamtoday.com --- Alahumma infa`ni bima `allamtani wa `allamni ma yanfa`uni! OH ALLAH! May Allah bless our Beloved Prophet Muhammad(SAW), and His entire family, and His noble companions, and all those who follow Him in truth. Bismillah [IslamCity] For the non-Muslims from a Canadian Lady
For the non-Muslims from a Canadian Lady http://www.turntoislam.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25771 I am no scholar, and I am new to Islam (about a month) But one of the biggest things that I like to discuss are in fact women's rights in Islam. There are many questions I have received from friends and family members since my conversion and most of them have been related to this topic. Some of the main questions from people who know little about Islam were: Won't your husband be oppressive, and isn't the hijab oppressive? Wont your husband beat you? Please, ladies, know your rights in Islam! Men are not allowed to beat women in Islam. In fact IF they DO touch you, they can't even leave a mark on your skin, there should not even be a red mark (you know, that fades away in seconds). The hijab is a woman's choice, it is not forced upon them. Anyone that forces their women to wear it is ruled by culture, and not by Islam. Most women make the choice to wear hijab because it FREES them from oppression. Do you truly think a half naked woman sitting on a car to SELL the car is not oppression? Women being used as sexual objects? A woman in hijab is looked at with the highest respect, and for her mind, and not her beauty. About men being allowed 4 wives. Do you think a woman would really want four husbands? Would YOU want 4 husbands to take care of at the end of the day?! It¡¯s hard enough caring for one! (laundry, dinner, ETC) The whole reason behind men being allowed 4 wives is for social needs. In the times of the Prophet (peace be upon him) there was a lot of war. Men would leave their wives and kids and not return home. What were these women supposed to do to care for her family? There was no social support in those days. Everything about Islam is an answer to a problem. You don't see too many Muslim men taking more than one wife these days because he has to treat each one equally. That means, a house for each wife, he has to spend the same amount of time with each wife, therefore you have to be WELL OFF in order to do this. And in fact, while polygamy is allowed, even Allah SWT in the Quran says one is better. Another question I get is this If a father dies, why the son gets more than the daughter? In the Quran, it says that the son is to receive double of what the daughter would get. HOW IS THIS FAIR???¡± Well I will tell you how it is fair. The Quran also says that the son must care for all the women in his family until his sisters are married, and if the mother doesn't remarry it is the son's responsibility to care for her entirely, just as his father did. That means, any money that he received, he will likely not see a penny of it for himself after he cares for his sisters and mother. ALSO the money the daughter receives is her in its entirety. While the son is paying for her living expenses and food, the money she gets, she may spend on whatever she likes, it is hers and nobody can touch it. Now does that seem fair? How about women in Islam that don't have jobs and slave away at home. Well, that is the woman's choice. A woman can either work, or stay at home and care for her children. Since it is the man's duty to provide for his family, the woman usually prefers to watch her kids grow, then to have them in daycare while she makes money. If she does decide to work however, any of the money she makes is hers to spend on whatever she likes, and she does not have to put a single penny of it towards the household. Women in Islam are seen as more precious then diamonds and pearls. We are held high. It is US that carry life inside of us for 9 months, it is us that raise the children. Allah (SWT) gives men and women equality or rights. We as women however are not the same as men. Men were made to be able to provide for a family, to be strong in times of need, to be the king of the home. But as history tells this story, No king can run a country without a right hand. No palace can stand without a pillar. We my sister, are the pillars for our men. I am sorry for going on like this, May Allah guide you to the truth. Aameen. Every honest Jew who knows the history of his people cannot but feel a deep sense of gratitude to Islam, which has protected the Jews for fifty generations, while the Christian world persecuted the Jews and tried many times by the sword to get them to abandon their faith. (Uri Avnery, a Jewish Journalist) Nay we might rationally ask, did any set of human beings ever really think the man they saw there standing beside them a god, the maker of this world? Perhaps not: it was usually some man they remembered, or had seen. (Thomas Carlyle) - Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Search.
Bismillah [IslamCity] Islam-West division is worsening
Abdus-Sattar Ghazali [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Wed, 23 Jan 2008 12:45:49 -0800 From: Abdus-Sattar Ghazali [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: asghazali [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Islam-West division is worsening Islam-West division is worsening By Abdus Sattar Ghazali Majority of the people in Muslim and western countries believe that Islam-West division is worsening while each side thinks the other disrespects their culture, says a report on Muslim-Western relations released on January 21, 2008 in Davos, Switzerland. The report, titled Islam and the West: Annual Report on the State of Dialogue, conducted by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with Georgetown University, looks at how Muslim and Western societies perceive and relate to each other at the political, social, economic and cultural levels. The report features a Gallup poll on Muslim-West Dialogue which finds that majorities in all the populations surveyed in 21 countries believe that systemic violent conflict between the west and the Muslim world can ultimately be avoided. However, the degree of optimism about future relations between the west and Islam fluctuates widely polled by Gallup for the report. The people of Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands are among the most optimistic in the world about the state of relations between western and Muslim societies, while those in Pakistan, Brazil and Russia are among the most pessimistic. The report found that Europeans, worried by immigration and a perceived Islamic threat to their culture, are alarmed at the prospect of greater interaction with the Muslim world. By contrast, a majority of people in the United States and the Muslim world felt more interaction would help. European populations surveyed are much more likely to believe that greater interaction between the Muslim and Western worlds is a threat than a benefit, the report said. Most Muslims (ranging from 62-84%) feel that the West does not respect them. Western citizens tend to agree, with fewer than half agreeing that the West respects the Muslim world. One area of disagreement, however, is the reverse - Muslim attitudes towards the West. Muslims tend to agree that they respect the West, but those in Western countries, including 82% of Americans, disagree. The writers of the report suggest that the discrepancy between the way Muslims think the Muslim world regards the West, and the perspective of Westerners, may have to do with a Western tendency to conflate negative opinion of the US, common in the Muslim world, with a rejection of the West and its values as a whole. Three in four US residents say the Muslim world is not committed to improving relations with the West. At least half of the respondents in Italy (58%), Denmark (52%) and Spain (50%) agree that the Muslim world is not committed to improving relations. But majorities of residents in nations around the world say that better interaction between the Muslim and Western worlds is important to them. Surprisingly, Iranians were among world leaders in this category, with 70% saying interactions were the West were important. An important finding of the report is the emergence of citizenship and integration as the second most powerful shaper of the state of dialogue after international politics. Growing Muslim minorities committed to active and full citizenship, particularly in Europe, are increasingly finding a voice in the public sphere. Governments committed to ideals of equality and recognition, but eager to maintain majority support and national cohesion, are seeking to engage Muslim groups in structured dialogue; with mixed results. Greater interaction with the Muslim world is actually seen as a threat by 60% of the citizens in many European countries but not in America. The percentage of Muslim population in the 15-member European Union is expected to rise from 4.3% in 2006 to approximately 10%-15% by 2025, with a higher concentration in urban areas of up to 30% in countries such as France, Germany and Holland. The World Economic Forum believes that like all other global challenges, it will take the collaborative effort of all stakeholders from government, business, religion, media, academia and civil society to pre-empt any crisis, create alliances and find solutions, said Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum. Over the course of 2008, the Community of Islam and the West Dialogue will invite leaders from various walks of life to engage in a concerted dialogue and debate of the most important issues, in particular the area of citizenship and integration. In the preface of the report, John J. DeGioia, President, Georgetown University, points out: A better future for Muslim-West relations at a global level and within national societies depends on more than
Bismillah [IslamCity] Senior Israeli defense official: Collective punishment works!
Using claims like retaliation for Palestinian rocket fire is false and misleading. They sell that story to the American masses via main stream media to make people think that all the nice Israelis are doing is defending themselves. What is not told and what the rest of the world knows, is that the Israelis have been the aggressors all along. From shooting American made missiles into crowded Palestinian habitations killing countless civilians, conducting targeted assassinations, bulldozing houses, starving the population, destroying their electrical power plants, poisoning and denying them water, and countless other acts of war and aggression the Israelis have been on a serious offensive . Not a week goes by without Palestinians being killed. Yet we hear a lot about Palestinian rocket fire but oddly enough with no Israeli casualties. They twist the truth to make the victims become the aggressors and the aggressors become the victims. The Israelis are pushing ahead with their genocide of the Palestinian people so that they can complete taking all of Palestinian lands as they claim was given to them by their god as chosen people. The real story is that they are using the worst Satanic methods to obtain what they claim was given to them by their god. Indeed what they are doing is in total opposition to the edicts of the Creator. As one leading Jewish intellectual admitted a few years ago, Many Jews don't like to admit it, but our god is Lucifer! Senior Israeli defense official: Collective punishment works http://www.imemc.org/article/52392 In a statement to the Israeli press Monday, a senior Israeli official claimed that the collective punishment of the entire Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip was an effective way to curb Palestinian homemade rocket attacks, stating that Palestinians got the message. Despite the fact that such collective punishment of an entire population is explicitly illegal under international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention, and despite the fact that Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are an occupied people, and are thus entitled to a special 'protected' status under United Nations regulations, the Israeli occupying authorities have continually attempted to justify measures which punish the entire Palestinian population for the actions of a few. Said the unnamed senior Israeli military official, in an interview with the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahranot, We got the message across. Hamas understood the equation: A continuation of the rocket fire would lead to Israeli pressure against armed groups and civilians. We do not plan to cause a humanitarian catastrophe, but they now realize they will not get fuel or other luxuries as well. Many Palestinians disagree with the designation of fuel as a luxury, given that the fuel cutoff has made it impossible to maintain operation of hospitals and clinics, and a number of patients have died as a result. Communications between emergency personnel have been affected, and the sick and elderly have been suffering through a severely cold winter without access to heat. Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention forbids collective punishment and states that a person shall not be punished for an offense he or she has not personally committed. This article explicitly relates to administrative punishment imposed on persons or groups because of acts that they did not personally commit. Article 50 of the Hague Regulations states a comparable prohibition. Israeli policies in the Gaza Strip continue to target the entire population of 1.5 million people as punishment for homemade rockets fired toward Israel by a few Palestinian resistance fighters. The Israeli military source quoted in the Israeli paper Monday made clear that the collective punishment of the Palestinian population in Gaza will continue, stating, Only an end to rocket fire would enable a return to normal life in the Gaza Strip. joeschmuck wrote: So throwing all the Jews into concentration camps as punishment for what their gang leaders do should be okay then. Strive as in a race to achieve the goal of excellence in all that you do. For real insights visit: http://www.ascertainthetruth.com Regards, Nashid
Bismillah [IslamCity] Muslims joining in Christmas and other celebrations. Is there any daleel from the Quran and Sunnah that I can present to them to show that these are indeed very sinful practice
Question: I see many Muslims joining in Christmas and other celebrations. Is there any daleel from the Quran and Sunnah that I can present to them to show that these are indeed very sinful practices?. Answer: Praise be to Allaah. It is not permissible to join in the kaafir festivals for the following reasons: Firstly: because this entails imitating or resembling them, and Whoever imitates a people is one of them. (Narrated by Abu Dawood). This is a serious warning. Abd-Allaah ibn al-Aas said: Whoever lives in the land of the mushrikeen and celebrates their Nawrooz (New Year) and their Mahrajaan (festivals), and imitates them until he dies, he will be a loser on the Day of Resurrection. Secondly: taking part in their festivals is a kind of befriending them and showing love for them. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Awliyaa (friends, protectors, helpers), they are but Awliyaa of each other. And if any amongst you takes them (as Awliyaa), then surely, he is one of them [al-Maaidah 5:51] O you who believe! Take not My enemies and your enemies (i.e. disbelievers and polytheists) as friends, showing affection towards them [al-Mumtahanah 60:1] Thirdly: festivals are the matter of religion and beliefs, not the matter of worldly customs, as is indicated by the hadeeth: Every nation has its Eid, and this is our Eid. Their Eid or festival reflects their corrupt beliefs of Kufr and Shirk. Fourthly: And those who do not witness falsehood, and if they pass by some evil play or evil talk, they pass it by with dignity [al-Furqaan 25:72 interpretation of the meaning]. The scholars interpreted this aayah was referring to the festivals of the mushrikeen. It is not permissible to give any of them cards for their festivals, or to sell them cards or any of the other things they need for their festivals such as lights, trees or food including turkey, candy canes, etc. - Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo!
