Bismillah [IslamCity] Salman the Persian, Zoroastrian, Persia (part 2 of 2): From Christianity to Islam

2008-09-20 Thread adil naveed
The man died, and Salman stayed in Amuria.  One day, “Some merchants from the
tribe of Kalb[1]  passed by me,” Salman said, “I told them, ‘Take me to Arabia
and I will give you my cows and the only sheep I have.’”  They said, “Yes.”
Salman gave them what he offered, and they took him with them.  When they
reached Waadi al-Quraa [close to Medinah], they sold him as a slave to a Jewish
man.  Salman stayed with the Jew, and he saw the Palm trees [his previous
companion had described].
“I hoped that this would be the same place described by my companion.”
One day, a man who was a first cousin to Salman’s master from the Jewish tribe
of Bani Quraidha in Medinah came visiting.  He bought Salman from his Jewish
master.
“He took me with him to Medina.  By God!  When I saw it, I knew it was the
place my companion described.
Then God sent[2]  His Messenger [i.e., Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of
God be upon him].  He stayed in Mecca as long as he did.[3]  I did not hear
anything about him because I was very busy with the work of slavery, and then
he migrated to Medina.
[One day,] I was on a palm-tree on top of one of its date-clusters doing some
work for my master.  A first cousin of his came and stood in front of him [his
master was sitting] and said, “Woe to Bani Qeelah [people of the tribe Qeelah],
they are gathered in Qibaa”[4]  around a man who came today from Mecca claiming
to be a Prophet!”
I trembled so fiercely when I heard him that I feared that I would fall on my
master.  I descended and said, ‘What are you saying!?  What are you saying!?’
My master became angry and punched me hard saying, “What business do you have
in this [matter]? Go and mind your business.”
I said, “Nothing!  I just wanted to be sure of what he was saying.”
On that evening, I went to see the Messenger of God while he was in Qibaa.  I
took something with me which I had saved.  I went in and said, “I was told that
you are a righteous man and that your company [who] are strangers [here] are in
need.  I want to offer you something I saved as charity.  I found that you
deserve it more than anyone else.”
I offered it to him; he said to his companions, “Eat,” but he himself kept his
hand away [i.e., did not eat].  I said to myself, “This is one [i.e., one of
the signs of his Prophethood].”
Following this encounter with the Prophet, may the mercy and blessings of God
be upon him, Salman left to prepare for another test!  This time he brought a
gift to the Prophet in Medina.
“I saw that you do not eat from that given as charity, so here is a gift with
which I wish to honor you.”  The Prophet ate from it and ordered his companions
to do the same, which they did.  I said to myself, “Now there are two [i.e.,
two of the signs of Prophethood].”
On the third encounter, Salman came to Baqee-ul-Gharqad [a grave yard in
Medina] where the Prophet, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, was
attending the funeral of one of his companions.  Salman said:
“I greeted him [with the greeting of Islam: ‘Peace be upon you’], and then
moved towards his back attempting to see the seal [of Prophethood] which was
described to me by my companion.  When he saw me [doing so], he knew that I was
trying to confirm something described to me.  He took the garment off his back
and I looked at the seal.  I recognized it.  I fell down upon it, kissing it
and crying.  The Messenger of God, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon
him, told me to move around [i.e., to talk to him].  I told him my story as I
did with you, Ibn ‘Abbaas [remember that Salman is telling his story to Ibn
‘Abbaas].  He [the Prophet] liked it so much he wanted me to tell my story to
his companions.
He was still a slave owned by his master.  The Prophet said to him, “Make a
contract [with your master] for your freedom, O Salman.”  Salman obeyed and
made a contract [with his master] for his freedom.  He reached an agreement
with his master in which he would pay him forty ounces of gold and would plant
and successfully raise three hundred new palm trees.  The Prophet then said to
his companions, “Help your brother.”
They helped him with the trees and gathered for him the specified quantity.
The Prophet ordered Salman to dig the proper holes to plant the saplings, and
then he planted each one with his own hands.  Salman said, “By Him in Whose
hands is my soul [i.e., God], not a single tree died.”
Salman gave the trees to his master.  The Prophet gave Salman a piece of gold
that was the size of a chicken egg and said, “Take this, O Salman, and pay
[i.e., your master] what you owe.”
Salman said, “How much is this in regards to how much I owe!”
The Prophet said, “Take it!  God will [make it] equal to what you owe.”[5]
I took it and I weighed a part of it and it was forty ounces.  Salman gave the
gold to his master.  He fulfilled the agreement and he was released.
>From then on, Salman became one of the closest of companions to the Prophet

Bismillah [IslamCity] Muslims in Europe: A Short Introduction

2008-09-20 Thread waheedahsan
September 2008

Introduction

This paper aims to briefly present the basic facts and issues
concerning Muslims in Europe, from a political and sociological
perspective, and to offer elements of comparison with the US.1 There
will be a slight emphasis on France, due to author's area of
specialty – and to the fact that France is home to the largest Muslim
population in Europe.

A few popular myths about Islam in Europe should first be dispelled,
in order to grasp the real issues and challenges:

Myth #1: Being Muslim constitutes a fixed identity, sufficient to
fully characterize a person.

When it comes to Muslims, people wrongly assume that religion –
rather than nationality, gender, social class, etc. – necessarily
trumps other identities. To take just a few examples, the Washington
Post, in an article on migration to the EU (June 2008), writes
about "Muslims arriving from the Middle East and Africa, and Eastern
Europeans moving west", even though a) not all of the migrants from
this region are Muslims, b) "Eastern Europeans" would never be
labeled "Orthodox" or "Catholics", and c) that is not the issue
anyway, since the article is about immigration. For a couple of weeks
in November 2005, the media used the term "Muslims riots in France"
to describe the wave of urban violence that resulted in burnt cars
and property damage. But these riots had nothing to do with Islam,
and everything to do with the social and economic conditions of
largely immigrant communities. Muslim groups, who tried to play a
mediating role, discovered themselves to be irrelevant and powerless.

Myth #2: Muslims in Europe are, in one way or the other, inherently
foreign, the equivalent of visiting Middle-Easterners who are alien
to the "native" culture.

European culture, however, has always included Muslim elements, as
early as the 8th century. Moreover, the approximately 15 to 17
million persons of Muslim background currently in the EU-27 countries
(population: 500 million) include both citizens and non-citizens of
European member states, but a majority of them hold French, British,
German, etc. nationality. Many of them are proud of this fact and
would never think of themselves as anything else than Europeans (even
while honoring their heritage). Indeed, there is more difference in
political culture and social codes between a French Muslim and a
German Muslim than there is between a French Muslim and a French of
other religious orientation.

Myth #3: Muslims in Europe form a "distinct, cohesive and bitter
group," in the words of a 2005 Foreign Affairs article.

In reality, they are anything but a cohesive group. Not only is there
no unity to be found at the European level, but when one looks at the
national level, what predominates is the profound divisions, either
between countries of reference and their specific culture and brand
of Islam (e.g., Belgians of Turkish origin vs. Belgians of Moroccan
origin), between visions of religion and affiliation (e.g., German
Turks associated with Milli Görüº vs. those affiliated with Diyanet),
or between social status, political views, ethnicity, etc. In other
words, to speak of "a Muslim community" is simply misleading.

Myth #4: Muslims are demographically gaining on the "native"
population.

The implicit assumption behind this very widespread myth is that
Muslims form a distinct demographic bloc defined by religion, a bloc
which will never blend into the rest of society (another possible
assumption is based on ethnicity, "Muslims" being surrogate
for "people of color" vs. white people). This assumption is
contradicted by the significant rates of intermarriage and
conversions (in both directions) and, more importantly, by the
reality of integration in many countries, where Muslims are simply
patriotic, law-abiding citizens – in this case, worries about
demography have no basis, why would one count them apart? But even
accepting the assumption they are a demographic bloc, "Muslims" are
not actually significantly gaining on "natives." True, European
birthrates are generally low, and birthrates among immigrant groups
are often high. But in the latter group, they actually fall rapidly
after their arrival and among subsequent generations, as they tend to
conform to the national norm. And in some countries like France or
Ireland, general fertility rates are comparable to that observed in
the US, around 2 children per woman. Last but not least, immigration
to the EU is more and more tightly controlled. It is doubtful that
from about 15-17 million in the 500 million EU-27 today (3 to 4 %),
potential Muslims could number more than 6 % in the coming decades.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Manufacturing 'Terrorists' The Indian Way By Yoginder Sikand

2008-09-20 Thread Erooth Mohamed
*Manufacturing 'Terrorists' The Indian Way*
*Yoginder Sikand*

Almost every other day, newspapers are agog with stories about 'dreaded
Muslim terrorists' being nabbed across the country. At the same time, savage
violence unleashed by Hindutva groups continues unabated without any
effective steps being taken against them. In the on-going 'war on terror'.
globally as well as within India, Muslims have come to be framed
collectively as 'terrorists', while terrorism engaged in by people belonging
to other communities is generally condoned or ignored altogether or, at
least, is not described in the same terms. In India today, Muslim youths are
being indiscriminately picked up and tortured by the police, in many cases
falsely accused of being terrorists. Many of them have been languishing in
jails for years now and yet no one ever seems to care.]

Take the case of Muhammad Parvez Abdul Qayyum Shaikh of Gujarat. According
to his aunt, Qamar Jahan, on the 2nd of April 2003, while he was on his way
to fit a water appliance, he was arrested by CBI officer Tarun Barot and
others. For three days his family knew nothing his whereabouts. On the
fourth day, she says, 'We saw the news and realized that Parvez had been
arrested under allegations of having a Chinese made pistol and some gun
powder. However, this powder is used for cleaning the Aqua Guard machines.'

Parvez, she says, was brutally beaten and tortured by the officers, with
Officer Vanzara allegedly asking Parvez to refer to him as Khuda (God) and
beating him ruthlessly. While in jail they forced him to sign on blank
papers. He was reportedly taken by the CBI officers to Gandhinagar where he
was further tortured for 21 days. He was then charged in the DCP-6 case,
Tiffin bomb blast case and in the Haren Pandya murder case (the last
mentioned of which, incidentally, Pandya's own father accuses Gujarat Chief
Minister Narendra Modi as having instigated). He was sentenced to fourteen
years in jail for the last-mentioned case, although his aunt maintains that
he is innocent.

27 year-old Sardar, a Muslim youth, works as a plumber in Coimbatore, Tamil
Nadu. He was arrested at the age of 17, some months after the February 1998
Chennai bomb blasts. The initial accusation against Sardar was that he had
been involved in a street fight. He was apparently kept illegally imprisoned
for a month, and only after that was an FIR was lodged against him. This
time he was accused of carrying two pipe bombs and rioting. The offence was
non-bailable. He was remanded and kept in the Vellore Jail for first fifteen
months, even though there were no witnesses against him. The special court
set up for the bomb blasts refused to let him be tried as he was a minor.
Eventually, nine and half years later, in the final judgment the court
apparently found him not guilty of any of the charges put on him and he was
acquitted, but only after having spent almost a decade languishing in jail,
where he was brutally tortured. Even after his acquittal the police have
allegedly not stopped harassing and hounding him, and they still restrict
his movements.

Noor ul-Hoda, the son of a desperately poor daily-wage labourer from
Malegaon in Maharashtra, is yet another hapless Muslim man who has, so he
insists, been falsely implicated as a terrorist by the police. In September
2006, he was picked up by the police from his home. On the same day, they
brought him back , searched the house (without producing a search warrant),
and, finding nothing, took him back into police custody. The next day the
police charged Noor with possession of twenty books considered as 'illegal
literature'. While in police custody, he is said to have been forced,
through torture and threats by his interrogators that they would kill his
family, to sign a blank piece of paper, which was later used as evidence of
a 'confession'. This was, it is claimed, used to charge him under the
draconian MCOCA for allegedly being a member of the team that carried out
the Malegaon bombings. This, he says, is completely false as he was at the
local mosque on the day of the bomb blasts. The local special executive
officer has given an affidavit validating this. Noor claims that Police
Inspector Sachin Kadum had threatened him thus: 'Although I am aware of the
fact that you are not involved in the bomb blast, we will still capture you
and we will see if you can get out of this situation.'

In October 2006 Noor was taken to Bangalore for brain mapping and
narco-tests. These proved negative, but the experience was harrowing. During
the narco-test he was given powerful electric shocks and was badly beaten.
His ribs were also battered. The doctor, Malti , asked him to say what the
police wanted him to say or else he would be more deeply implicated in the
bomb blast case. 'When I did not repeat the words electric shocks were given
to my ear', he says. While he was in the custody of the Nasik police, they
tortured him severely at the ATS office, saying that

Bismillah [IslamCity] Ramadan: Benefits of night worship

Ramadan: Benefits of night worship
** *

**

THE special character, which distinguishes the month of Ramadan from the
rest of the year is derived from the type of action we do during this month,
be they obligatory or voluntary. We have spoken about fasting and the
reasons for making it obligatory, as well as the role it plays in the
building of the special character, which the nation of Islam has. We have
pointed out that fasting has much to do with the preparation of Muslims for
the task assigned to them by God, namely, conveying the divine message of
Islam to mankind. Although fasting is the main thing, which we do in
Ramadan, it is only the obligatory part. There are other aspects of worship,
which we associate with Ramadan in one way or another and which contribute
to its distinctive characteristics.

Every Muslim knows that emulating the Prophet (peace be upon him) in any
action he did during the 23 years of his mission is strongly recommended. It
goes without saying that some of these actions we must do, since they are
Islamic duties. What is not obligatory and has been done by the Prophet
constitutes a recommended practice, which earns reward if done by any
Muslim. When we look at what the Prophet did in Ramadan, we find that he was
exceptionally charitable in this blessed month. In order to appreciate his
generosity, we need to remember that the Prophet was the most generous of
people at all times. He never hesitated to give away whatever he had,
trusting always that God will give him more for his charity. In Ramadan,
however, he was exceedingly charitable, with no limits to his generosity.

Moreover, prayer, which is the mainstay of Islamic worship, and indeed the
Islamic faith, receive even stronger emphasis in Ramadan. When you go
anywhere in the Muslim world in Ramadan, you find that mosques witness some
unusual activity in this month. Worshippers gather for a late congregational
prayer, which is offered after Isha, the night prayer, and takes much longer
than any of the five obligatory prayers offered daily. Nevertheless, this
worship exercise is not obligatory. We do it, following the guidance of the
Prophet. It is authentically reported that he came out into the mosque one
night in Ramadan and a group of his companions joined him in a
congregational prayer. He did the same on the following two nights with the
congregation increasing every night. On the fourth night, the mosque was
overcrowded, but the Prophet did not come out. In the morning, when he came
out for the obligatory dawn prayer, Fajr, he said to his companions that he
was aware of their presence. He simply did not want to come out because he
feared that this worship might become obligatory to them. He wanted to keep
it voluntary. However, the indication is clear that a congregational night
worship in Ramadan is strongly recommended.

This understanding was put into practice by the second Caliph, Umar ibn
Al-Khattab. He came out one night in Ramadan to the mosque and found that
there were many people praying individually or in small groups. He thought
that it was far better if they joined together in one congregation led by an
imam who recited the Qur'an well. He chose Ubayy ibn Kaab who was known to
be one of the best reciters of the Qur'an among the Prophet's companions.
This was how the Taraweeh prayer started in congregation.

Prayers are a devotional practice, which is aptly described as an action,
which breathes life into souls. This applies particularly to night prayers.
At night, the worshipper feels himself much closer to God. Prayers help him
to purify himself and strengthen his resolve to fulfill all the duties God
requires of him, especially in relation to the conveyance of the divine
message to mankind.

It is noteworthy that such long and late night prayers were obligatory in
the very early period of Islam. The Prophet and his few companions in Makkah
were required to stay up nearly half the night every night in total devotion
to God. After a couple of hours sleep they would rise and offer their
devotion. They continued to do so for a whole year. Later, the obligation
was relaxed. The action itself remains strongly recommended. It does not
require a far stretch of imagination to visualize the strong effect such
night prayers have in educating the believers and building their characters.
The self-discipline involved, the feeling of proximity to God night prayer
imparts, and the acceptance of the supremacy of His will are all important
factors which help to shape the character of the Muslim community. Hence,
night prayers were made obligatory in the formative period of the first
Muslim generation. When we consider the remarkable achievements of that
generation, we have to remember that it was a generation molded by the
Prophet himself, and that the fact that long hours were spent in worship
every night was an essential element of the molding process.

The fact that obligation was later relaxed does not alter anythin

Bismillah [IslamCity] 5 things about Battle of Badr

2008-09-20 Thread Shahid Khan
*5 things about* *Battle of Badr*

The Battle of Badr took place on the seventeenth of Ramadan, two years after
Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) Hijrah (emigration) to Madina. Here's
more information about the battle, which was the first armed conflict that
the Muslims were ever engaged in.

*1*

The Muslims went out of Madina to investigate a caravan which was returning
to Makkah from Syria, not intending to engage in battle. The caravan
escaped, but its leader Abu Sufyan managed to send word to Makkah, asking
for forces to come and protect the caravan.

*2*

The Makkan tribes marched with an enormous army of 1,000 men, 100 horses,
and 700 camels, and luxurious provisions to last for several days, while the
Muslims numbered 313 ill-equipped men on 70 camels and a few horses.

*3*

Led by the Prophet (pbuh), the Muslims marched forward and at the suggestion
of a companion, Hubab Bin Mundhir, encamped south on the nearest water well,
restricting the Makkans' access to water.

*4*

The Battle of Badr is one of the few battles explicitly mentioned in the
Qur'an: "And Allah has already made you victorious at Badr, when you were a
weak little force. So fear Allah much that you may be grateful." Qur'an:
3:123

*5*

Many important Makkan leaders were killed or taken prisoner in this battle,
the most noteworthy of whom was Abu Jahl, the archenemy of Islam. The Battle
of Badr strengthened the Muslims' status in Arabia as a strong force and
consolidated the Muslims' faith.

They are not the richest country. Just do a simple research. The government
spends millions and even billions of dollars to make sure the hajjis are safe
and have a safe hajj. They provide free medical services for all the poor
hajjis, among other services. They are building train systems (to replace
buses) to make it easier for hajjis. They are making a 3 story one way jamarat
bridge to avoid any inuries that incur. Last year was the first time they did
the one way only traffic and there were hardly any injuries. They transport and
provide zamzam water at so many places for the hajjis, free of charge. They
provide bus services for lost pilgrims to take them where they should be. Do
some reseach before throwing blind accusations.

Anyone who wants to live in any country, they have to work. People seem to
think because it's saudi, so they should live free without working. Look at
your western countries like australia and UK, they have strick visa guidelines
to let in only people who are highly qualified. The maids and laborers are
doing the jobs they are capable of doing. There are about 1 million foreign
workers in the kingdom and no they are not all maids and laborers. They range
from top white collars positions to all the way down to maids and laborers. You
only get the job you are qualified for, it's common sense.

Bismillah [IslamCity] 'Fatwa' against Salman Khan, family for celebrating Hindu god

2008-09-20 Thread Shahid
Allah forbids in the Qur'an to marry these idol worshippers but it is so common
in India to see Muslims marrying among them. Then people like these khans dare
to say it's islamicly ok.

And do not marry Al-Mushrikât (idolatresses, etc.) till they believe (worship
Allâh Alone). And indeed a slave woman who believes is better than a (free)
Mushrikah (idolatress, etc.), even though she pleases you. And give not (your
daughters) in marriage to Al-Mushrikûn till they believe (in Allâh Alone) and
verily, a believing slave is better than a (free) Mushrik (idolater, etc.),
even though he pleases you. Those (Al-Mushrikûn) invite you to the Fire, but
Allâh invites (you) to Paradise and Forgiveness by His Leave, and makes His
Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) clear to
mankind that they may remember. (Al-Baqarah 2:221)

It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allâh and His Messenger have
decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And
whoever disobeys Allâh and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed in a plain
error. (Al-Ahzab 33:36)

'Fatwa' against Salman Khan, family for celebrating Ganeshotsav

Fri, Sep 12 11:35 PM

Mumbai, Sep 12 (IANS) Veteran Bollywood scriptwriter Salim Khan, the father of
actor Salman Khan, Friday questioned a fatwa, religious edict, against him by
some Muslim organizations for celebrating Ganeshotsav at their home here.

"What is the locus standi of these people? Who are they to question people's
religious beliefs? Why don't they issue such a 'fatwa' against terrorists and
terrorism, which is un-Islamic? The clerics are talking nonsense," he thundered
before a television channel Friday evening.

Mufti Manjar Hassan Khan Ashrafi Misbahi, the chief of Darul-Uloom Hijaziya
Chishti, Mumbai, issued the 'fatwa' urging a religious boycott of the entire
Khan family on Wednesday.

Last week, the Khan family was in the limelight when all members along with
friends and relations celebrated the Ganeshotsav festival at their home in
Bandra, northwest Mumbai.

The Khans celebrate Ganeshotsav every year, but this time, the live telecast of
the family performing 'aarti' (invocation) of Lord Ganesh has irked some
community leaders. Later, the family took part in a ceremonial immersion of the
idol of Lord Ganesh.

The social boycott call was issued in response to a demand by Abdul Rehman
Anjaria, member of the Advisory Council, Jama Masjid, New Delhi.

Anjaria, who is also member All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), told
IANS Friday evening that the 'fatwa' would be in force until Khan and his
family atone for their actions of worshipping an idol of Lord Ganesh, which is
not permitted in Islam.

Referring to Salim Khan's outburst against the fatwa, Anjaria said they would
call for certified tapes of his comments from the TV channel soon.

"Depending on what he has said, the community elders may go for stringent
action against the Khans, including a social boycott," Anjaria explained.

According to Anjaria, Maulana Abdus Salam Bin Qasmi, president,
Jamiat-Ul-Ulema-Hind, Mumbai, and Maulana Nizamuddin Ashrafi, principal, Darul
Uloom Ali Hassain Ali Sunnat, Mumbai, who is also a member of AIMPLB, have also
supported the 'fatwa'.

Despite repeated attempts by IANS, Salim and Salman Khan were not available for
their comments in the matter.

Last year too Salman Khan had been issued a similar 'fatwa' by a Lucknow-based
organization of Muslim clerics for joining the Ganeshotsav celebrations.

Justifying the decision to celebrate Ganeshotsav, Salim said his wife (Salman's
mother) is a Maharashtrian Hindu and "worshipping Lord Ganesh is in my blood".

"worshipping Lord Ganesh is in my blood"... so that means he is a hindu and

Bismillah [IslamCity] When to look for Laylatul Qadr?

2008-09-20 Thread ***hajikhan***

--- On Mon, 9/1/08, canadianmuslims <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

Aisha (Radiallaho Anha) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam)
said "Seek Laylatul Qadr among the odd numbered nights of the last ten days of
the month of Ramadhan".

Note: According to the great majority of the religious scholars, the last ten
nights commence on the 21st night. Such is the case whether the month of
Ramadhan consists of 29 days or 30. S0, one should seek Laylatul Qadr on the
21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th night.

Ibn Hazm has a different opinion saying that the word Asharah used in the
Hadith means ten. As such, the above calculations will only be correct in cases
where the month of Ramadhan consists of thirty days. However, when there are
only twenty nine days in the month (as often happens), the last ten days will
commence with the 19th day and the night being the 20th night. According to
this calculation, it would appear that the unevenly numbered nights will
actually be the 20th, 22nd, 24th, 26th, 28th and 30th nights.

But all Ulama agree that when in search of Laylatul Qadr Rasulullah (Sallallaho
Alaihi Wassallam) went into Aiteekaaf, he commenced it on the 21st night of
Ramadhan. In view of this, these Ulama consider the odd nights to be the
appropriate nights for Laylatul Qadr.

One should, therefore, spend each and every night from the 20th onwards in
worship of Allah, so that one may be sure of having got the Barakah of
Ramadhan, Spending ten or eleven nights in devotion is definitely not so
difficult, if one looks at the great reward that is promised.

5. Precise Knowledge of Laylatul Qadr was taken away
o Ubaadah Ibn Saamit (Radiallaho Anho) said "Once the Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihi
Wassallam) came out to inform us of the (correct date of) Laylatul Qadr.
Unfortunately, a quarrel took place between two Muslims, whereupon He
(Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) said 'I came out to inform you as to when
Laylatul Qadr occurs, but because two people quarreled with each other, the
knowledge of the correct date was taken away. Perhaps that is better for you.
So, seek it among the ninth, seventh and fifth nights.'"

Note: Three important points are referred to in this Hadith. Firstly it tells
us of a quarrel, as a result of which the knowledge of the precise night of
Laylatul Qadr was lost to us. Arguments and quarrels are always the cause of
loss of blessings.

Once Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) inquired of the Sahabah: "Shall I
inform you of an action that is better than Salaah, fasting and charity?" The
Sahabah replied: "Certainly." Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) then
said" "Maintain peaceful and good relations amongst yourselves, for verily
quarrels among yourselves destroy (shave off) faith," i.e. just as a razor
shaves off the hair, so does quarrelling affect the Deen.

Let alone the worldly people, even those among us who appear exceptionally
religious and busy with Zikr are victims of these arguments and strife and are
obstinate in their stand, in spite of the saying of Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihi
Wassallam). In the first chapter of this book, we read how Rasulullah
(Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) said that to insult a Muslim is indeed a serious
crime and equivalent to the worst kind of usury , but we do not even spare a
Muslim's honor or refrain from insults and little notice is taken of the
injunctions of Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) and His Rasul (Sallallaho Alaihi
Wassallam).

The Quran says: "And argue not among yourselves, otherwise you will lose
courage and your strength will depart" (al-anfaal 46). It is now the duty of
those who always seek to injure and destroy the honor and dignity of others to
ponder and reflect how much harm they have, in fact, done to themselves, and
think how much they have, through these despicable deeds, degraded themselves
in Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala) 's sight and in the sight of those around them.

Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) said that he who severs relations with
a brother Muslim for more than three days and dies in this state, will go
straight to Jahannam. In another Hadith, it is stated that on every Monday and
Thursday, the actions of human beings are brought before Allah (Subhanahu wa
Taala). Then through His mercy (as a result of certain good deeds), forgiveness
is granted, except to the idolaters and those who set up equals to Allah
(Subhanahu wa Taala), However, regarding those two people between whom a
quarrel has taken place, friendship having been cut off, it shall be said,
"Leave their affair in suspense until such time as they become reconciled."

Another Hadith states that, when actions are produced before Allah (Subhanahu
wa Taala) every Monday and Thursday, repentance is accepted from those who
repent and forgiveness is granted to those who seek pardon. As for those who
had arguments (with each other) they are left as they were.

A Hadith further teaches us that, on the ni

Bismillah [IslamCity] The Gates of Paradise

2008-09-20 Thread Erooth Mohamed
*The Gates of Paradise **
By *Dr. Umar S.
Al-Ashqar*
*Professor of Shari`ah—Jordan University*
http://www.islamonline.net/English/Ramadan/1429/Successful_Trade/05.shtml

The three cornerstones of the Prophets' messages, as mentioned by Imam Ibn
Abi Al-Iz Al-Dimishqi in his book *Sharh At-Tahawiyya*, are: teaching people
about Allah and His attributes, directing them how to follow the path that
Almighty Allah has established for human-beings to follow, and informing
them about the reward they will receive when they follow the path of
Almighty Allah.

If we take a look at the message of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be
upon him), which is the Qur'an and Sunnah, we will find that it has covered
these three cornerstones. We will also find that not only are the commands
and prohibitions mentioned in a detailed manner, but also the reward that
the believers will receive, which is Paradise, is also described thoroughly,
so their hearts become attached to it and it becomes a competition between
the believers:

Who will receive this great reward? Who will be able to defeat his evil
desires more than anyone else? Who will be able to perfect his acts of
worship like praying and fasting in order to receive this immense reward?

Paradise is the tremendous reward which Allah the All-Powerful has prepared
for His beloved and those who obey Him. It is perfect joy and pleasure,
where there is nothing lacking and nothing can disturb its purity. What
Allah the Almighty and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) have
told us about it makes us mystified with indescribable joy because our minds
are incapable of comprehending the greatness of such blessings.

Amongst the details of the description of Paradise that is mentioned in the
Quran and Sunnah, is that it has gates through which believers will enter,
as the angels enter therein:

[*`Adn [Eden] of Paradise, whose doors will be opened for them.*] (Quran:
Saad, 38: 50)

*[… And angels shall enter unto them from every gate [with the salutation]:
'Peace be unto you for that you persevered in patience! How excellent is the
final home!*] (Quran: Ar-Ra`d, 13: 23-24)

Allah the Almighty has told us that these gates will be opened when the
believers reach them, and that they will be welcomed by the angels with
greetings of peace:

[*And those who kept their duty to their Lord will be led to Paradise in
groups, till, when they reach it, its gates will be opened (before their
arrival for their reception) and its keepers will say: Salamun Alaikum
(peace be upon you)! You have done well, so enter here to abide
therein.*](Az-Zumar, 39: 73)

Imam Ibn Kathir says in his *tafseer*: "Allah tells us about the blessed
believers, who will be taken to Paradise in groups, one group after another,
starting with the best of them: those who are closest to Allah, then the
most righteous, then the next best and the next best. Each group will be
with others like them, prophets with prophets, the true believers with their
peers, the martyrs with their counterparts, the scholars with their
colleagues; every group composed of people of the same kind."

There are eight gates in Paradise; one of them is called *Ar-Rayyan*, which
is exclusively for those who fast. Al-Bukhari and Muslim report from Sahl
ibn Sad As-Saidi that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon
him) said:

*"In Paradise there are eight gates. There is one gate called Ar-Rayyan.
No-one will enter it except those who fast, and after they enter it, it will
be locked behind them, and no-one else will enter through it."*

There are also gates for those who pray much, those who give in charity and
those who fight in jihad, as well as the gate called *Ar-Rayyan* for those
who fast. In a hadith reported by both Al-Bukhari and Muslim, Abu Hurairah
narrated that Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):

*"Whoever spends a pair (of anything) from his wealth for the sake of
Allah, will be called from the gates of Paradise, and Paradise has eight
gates. Whoever will be from the people of salah (i.e. praying regularly,
properly, obligatory and supererogatory), will be called from the gate of
prayer; whoever will be from among the people of sadaqah (optional charity)
will be called from the gate of charity; whoever will be from among the
people of jihad will be called from the gate of jihad, and whoever will be
from among the people of fasting (fasting obligatory and optional) will be
called from the gate of fasting."* Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)
said: "By Allah, it would not matter if a person was called from any of
them, but will anyone be there to be called from all of them, O' Messenger
of Allah?" He (peace and blessings be upon him), *"Yes, and I hope that you
will be one of them."*

Abu Bakr's question refers to a person who has all these good qualities:
prayer, fasting, charity, jihad, and s

*Ten Days of Forgiveness: Ready?*
By Wa'il
Shihab
*Islamic Researcher— Egypt *

The blessed days of Ramadan are passing so quickly. The special days of
Allah's great mercy, forgiveness and favors are going; therefore, every one
should evaluate the efforts he exerted in Ramadan before it is too late.
Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) told us that the first
part of Ramadan is for Allah's mercy, its middle is for forgiveness, and its
end is for salvation from Hell-fire.

No one knows whether or not he gained the mercy of Almighty Allah before the
end of the first third of Ramadan. We should all be faithful and honest when
evaluating our success in gaining His mercy in the first part of this
blessed month. We should realize our shortcomings in order not to miss out
on the blessings of the few days that remain.

Now we are favored with the days of forgiveness. Are we ready to work for
forgiveness? Have we prepared ourselves to be forgiven by Almighty Allah? It
is our great opportunity to repent, to return to Almighty Allah, and to seek
His forgiveness. It is a precious time that we should not miss out on. If we
fail to gain the forgiveness of Almighty Allah during the days of
forgiveness, when would our sins would be forgiven?

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), his companions, and the
righteous Muslims throughout the ages used to pay due attention to Ramadan
and the blessings it contains. Wise people should never miss the merits of
every single day of Ramadan.

Now, the important question is: How should we seek the forgiveness of
Almighty Allah during these blessed days of Ramadan? Below are some tips
that we should consider and implement:

 1. Everybody should sincerely repent to Almighty Allah, seeking His
forgiveness,

2. Wrongdoings and prohibitions should be avoided,

3. One should offer more optional acts of worship such as Tahajjud (night
prayer), charity, dhikr, and Qur'an recitation.

4. Obligatory acts of worship such as the five daily prayers should be
carried out properly and faithfully, and

5. One should earnestly make du`aa' to Almighty Allah to bless him with His
favors and forgiveness.

O Allah, help us all to gain Your mercy, forgiveness, and blessings, Ameen.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Tafsir of Surat Al Qadr (The Night Of Power)

2008-09-20 Thread laila sultan
Tafsir of Surat Al Qadr (The Night Of Power)
Tafsir Ibn Kathir
© Dar us Salam
http://www.quraan.com/
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious Most Merciful.

1. Verily, We have sent it down in the Night of Al-Qadr
2. And What will make you know what the Night of Al-Qadr is?
3. The Night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months.
4. Therein descend the angels and the Ruh by their Lord's permission with every
matter.
5. There is peace until the appearance of dawn.
[Surah Al Qadr]
The Virtues of the Night of Al-Qadr(the Decree)
Allah informs that He sent the Quran down during the Night of Al-Qadr, and it
is a blessed night about which Allah says,
We sent it down on a blessed night [44:3]
This is the Night of Al-Qadr and it occurs during the month of Ramadan. This is
as Allah says,
The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Quran [2:185]
Ibn Abbas and others have said, "Allah sent the Quran soen all at one time from
the Preserved Tablet (Al-Lawh Al-Mahfuz) to the House of Might (Baytul-Izzah) ,
which is in the heaven of this world. Then it came down in parts to the
Messenger of Allah (saws) based upon the incidents that occurred over a period
of twenty-three years."
Then Allah magnified the status of the Night of Al-Qadr , which He chose for
the revelation of the Mighty Quran, by His saying,
And What will make you know what the Night of Al-Qadr is?
The Night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months.
[At-Tabari 24:531, 532, and Al-Qurtubi 20:130]
Imam Ahmad recorded that Abu Hurayrah said, "When Ramadan would come, the
Messenger of Allah (saws) would say,
"Verily the month of Ramadan has come to you all. It is a blessed month, which
Allah has obligated you all to fast. During it the gates of Paradise are
opened, the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are shackled. In it there
is a night that is better than one thousand months. Whoever is deprived of its
good, then he has truly been deprived"

[Ahmad 2:230. There is witness for this narration from the Hadith of Anas bin
Malik in the book of the Sunan.] An-Nasai recorded this same Hadith. [An-Nasai
4:129]
Aside from the fact that worship during the Night of Al-Qadr is equivalent to
worship performed for a period of one thousand months, it is also confirmed in
the Two Sahihs from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said,
"Whoever stands (in prayer) during the Nigh of Al-Qadr with faith and expecting
reward (from Allah), he will be forgiven for his previous sins." [Fath Al-Bari
4:294, and Muslim 1:253]
The Descent of the Angels and the Decree for Every Good during the Night of
Al-Qadr
Allah says,
Therein descend the angels and the Ruh by their Lord's permission with every
matter.
meaning, the angels descend in abundance during the Night of Al-Qadr due to its
abundant blessings. The angels descend with the descending of blessings and
mercy, just as they descend when the Quran is recited, they surround the
circles of Dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and they lower their wings with true
respect for the student of knowledge.
In reference to Ar-Ruh , it is said that here it means the angel Jibril.
therefore, the wording of the Ayah is a method of adding the name of the
distinct object (in this case Jibril) separate from the general group (in this
case the angels).
Concerning Allah's statement,
with every matter.
Mujahid said, "Peace concerning every matter." Sa'id bin Mansur said, Isa bin
Yunus told us that Al'mash narrated to them that Mujahid said concerning
Allah's statement,
There is peace
"It is security in which Shaytan cannot do any evil or any harm." Qatadah and
others have said, "The matters are determined during it, and the times of death
and provisions are measured out (i.e., decided) during it." Allah says,
Therein is decreed every matter of decree [44:4]
Then Allah says,
There is peace until the appearance of dawn.
Sa'id bin Mansur said, "Hushaym narrated to us on the sincerity of Abu Ishaq,
who narrated that Ash-Sha'bi said concerning Allah's statement,
With every matter, there is peace until the appearance of dawn.
"The angels giving the greetings of peace during the Night of Al-Qadr to the
people in the Masjids until the coming of Fajr (dawn)."
Qatadah and Ibn Zayd both said concerning Alla's statement,
There is Peace
"This means all of it is good and there is no evil in it until the coming of
Fajr (dawn)."
Specifying the Night of Decree and its Signs
This is supported by what Imam Ahmad recorded from Ubadah bin As-Samit that the
Messenger of Allah (saws) said,
"The Night of Al-Qadr occurs during the last ten (nights). Whoever stands for
them (in prayer) seeking their reward, then indeed Allah will forgive his
previous sins and his latter sins. It is an odd night: the ninth or the
seventh, or the fifth, or the third or the last night (of Ramadan)."
The Messenger of Allah (saws) also said,
"Verily, the sign of the Night of Al-Qadr is that it is pure and glowing as if
ther were a bright, tranquil

before appealing for any kind of donations. This time, I really feel that this
family is in desperate need of our help and prayers.

This family I personally know in Pakistan. Mashallah Very God fearing people.
People come to their house for help all the time. Now they are in need. Their
son has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in the eye. Shaukat Khanum
Hospital in Pakistan just diagnosed their son. The operation has been done,
Alhumdulilah. They need aid to help with the treatment itself. It is beyond
their capacity. They need at least 20-40 Lakhs for the 2 yr treatment. Please
help them. They have sold all their jewels, valuables in the house. Each
visit cost around 30,000 Rupees at least. (1 dollar = 76 rupee)

Now it is up to us to save their 9 year old son, whom everyone adores and loves
dearly. Mashalla he is a joy to be around. A wonderful boy. The mother has not
eaten for days. Nor the Grandfather, who is a diabetic patient. Please dig
deep in your pockets, and give as you are helping a fellow brother or sister.
Donate with whatever intention you want to make it as. EVERY LITTLE HELPS.

I have to tell you that they were very shy to ask me. Since they have never
asked anyone for help before. I understood something was wrong. So finally
they told me, that the once banine tumor, was now a cancerous one. They live
in Faisalabad in a town called Gatwalla. They had to make many trips to
Lahore, to find out this tragic news about their son. Please don't let them
down. He does not have the luxury of time on his hands.
jazakalla khair in advance.

You can send the money directly to them, or you can give it to us, we will wire
it to them Inshallah.

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE PRIME MINISTER OF INDIA

September 15, 2008

Dear Dr. Manmohan Singh,

The blasts in Delhi (September 12, 2008) are another in the series of tragic
blasts in which scores of people have been killed. We strongly condemn the
blasts and demand a proper, unbiased investigation into the same. We demand
that the guilty be punished. At the same time it seems that our investigating
agencies are ignoring some thing very crucial in the matters of investigating
the acts of terror.

The acts of terror have been occurring and Home Ministry is watching
helplessly. While the current investigation is totally focused around SIMI,
many an alleged culprits have been put behind the bars, despite which now some
unknown entity Indian Mujahideen seems to have been projected as being
responsible for the current ones. At the same time another stark truth is being
deliberately sidelined and undermined. And that relates to the blasts done by
Bajrang Dal and Hindu Jagran Samiti. We fail to understand as to why the
investigation authorities are turning a blind eye to some of the well
established facts.

1. In a serious case of blasts in Nanded in April 2006 two Bajarang Dal workers
died when making bombs. Similar incidents of bomb blasts were witnessed in many
places around that time, Parabhani, Jalna and Aurangabad in Maharashtra. Most
of these were in front of the mosques. The Nanded investigation 'leads' were
not followed. On the contrary the investigation in that direction was not
pursued at all. The attitude of police in this investigation has been totally
lax. Social activists made the complaint about this to Human Rights commission.
The commission summoned the Superintendent of police, Nanded, in its hearing
held on 17th June. The SP failed to turn up for hearing! There seems to be a
deliberate cover up of this important finding of Maharashtra Anti terrorist
Squad. ATS did investigate the links of the dead with Bajrang Dal, an RSS
affiliate. At the same time the injured were visited in the hospital by the top
brass of local BJP and associates.
Local BJP MP told the police not to harass those related to the culprits in
the wake of the Bajrang Dal involvement in the bomb making. In Nanded, ATS also
found fake moustache and pajama kurta, the idea being that the culprits will
dress like a Muslim while doing these black deeds.

2. A bomb blast took place at the RSS office at Tenkasi, in the Tirunelveli
District of Tamil Nadu on January 24. After a thorough investigation, the
Tamilnadu Police had arrested 7 persons belonging to Sangh Parivar outfits.
They had confessed that they indulged in this terror act to instigate the local
Hindu population against the Muslims.

On further investigation, the Tamilnadu Police arrested Siva Alias Sivanandam,
who is the General Secretary of Hindu Munnani at Kadayanallur, a neighbouring
town of Tenkasi. Formed in 1980, Hindu Munnani is a frontal organisation of
Sangh Parivar operating in Tamilnadu.

Siva, who has earlier worked in quarries in the neighboring state of Kerala had
supplied the ammonium nitrate and other raw materials for preparing the bombs.

3. The bombs which exploded in Gadkari Rangayatan on 4th June 2008 injured
seven people. Again Maharashtra Anti Terrorist Squad succeeded in nabbing the
culprits. The culprits were part of Hindu Janjagaran Samiti (HJS), an outfit of
Sanatana Ashram in Panvel. These culprits were also involved in other blasts,
in Vashi, Panvel and Ratnagiri. We have not heard anything about the further
tracing of this very important lead.

4. On 24th August, in Kanpur two Bajrang Dal workers died while making bombs.
Rajiv alias Piyush Mishra and Bhupinder Singh were killed while making crude
bombs on Sunday afternoon.

On 25th August, Monday, police recovered some crude hand grenades, lead oxide,
red lead, potassium nitrate, bomb pins, timers and batteries from the spot,
inside a hostel in Kalyanpur area of Kanpur, about 80 km from Lucknow. No
further investigation, why?

Every time there is a bomb blast immediately the agencies and the media declare
that it is done by some Muslim organization without any proof. Hundreds of
innocent young boys are picked up, what follows are illegal detentions,
torture, arrests, harassment of families, forcing the families and victims to
sign blank papers. For years these helpless victims are tortured in jails,
denied legal aid, even lawyers who try and fight their cases are attacked
openly in courts. Their images tarnished for life time. If they are lucky they
get let off after years as neither the agencies or the police have any proof
against them. The cacophony of stricter laws rises so that a police can extract
a confession by third degree torture and present that as evidence.  Through
this systematic vilification campaign the process of

The Joke of Palestinian "democracy" under Fatah, Israel

Comment by Khalid Amayreh in occupied Palestine

19 September, 2008

Jockeying for an advantageous public posture vis-à-vis Hamas, the Fatah
movement has been calling for the organization of presidential and
parliamentary elections in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The proposal is being touted as the only way to resolve the enduring crisis
between Fatah and Hamas, following the latter's counter-coup in Gaza in June of
last year.

The proposal, however, seems to be more of a propagandist gambit than a
sincere effort aimed at achieving inter-Palestinian reconciliation.

And it doesn't suggest that Fatah, now solidly backed and financed by the
United States, has undergone a true democratic transformation.

Indeed, Fatah today remains the same Fatah that only reluctantly and under
American pressure agreed to allow general elections to take place in 2006- and
only because Fatah leaders seemed then certain they would win.
