Bismillah [IslamCity] Ramadhan moon-sighting piece on Japanese TV

2008-09-23 Thread Shahid
A news piece on sighting of the new moon to mark the beginning of Ramadan in
Japan, shown on NHK. Inshallah it helped increase the understanding of the holy
month for our Japanese brethren!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAbyBOtdwVc [AUDIO REQ'D]

This little news piece is obviously excellent dawah for us in the 'Land of the
Rising Sun' and it's about time that the Japanese media started acknowledging
the estimated 2 million Muslims living amongst a
population of nearly 130 million. But watching this, what was most interesting
to me was hearing fellow Muslims - especially desi and arab looking ones -
speaking and giving interviews in fluent Japanese!
That's something you don't hear and see very often! We Muslims have been able
to take root and assimilate into other cultures and traditions without losing
our faith for so many centuries, that this
is just another great example of it! May Allah (swt) help this Deen grow and
establish itself in the hearts and minds of all humanity!

Bismillah [IslamCity] Bombing in India: RSS engineering 'Islamic terrorism'?

Bombing in India: RSS engineering 'Islamic terrorism'?

http://newsfrombangladesh.net/view.php?hidRecord=221793

London 18 September 2008. Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh expressed
new realism when he told a meeting of governors of states yesterday, "The role
of Pakistan-based terrorist groups cannot be minimised but the involvement of
local elements in recent blasts adds a new dimension to the terrorist threat,"
and he added, "We have reports that certain Pakistan-based terrorist outfits
are constantly seeking to set up new terrorist modules within our country",
according to report by bdnews24.com/Reuters today (18 September 2008).

The reporter remarked, ‘Singh's comment is an explicit, high-level
acknowledgement home-grown groups were now carrying out bombings in India,
which has traditionally blamed Pakistan for violent attacks on its soil.’

For many years now, in the wake of bombings by ‘suspected’ Islamic groups,
India in the absence of concrete intelligence, has been pointing their fingers
at external operatives such as ‘Pakistan-based terrorist group
Lashkar-i-Tayeba’, ’Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami Bangladesh (HuJI-BD)’, etc. They
dished out many make believe stories of bombing operations, which many
observers suspected to be concocted in the research chambers of RAW. This kind
of blame-mongering, and the desperate and reckless police actions by India in
the aftermath of bombings, has been likened to "a flailing state" by Harvard
economist Lant Pritchett, the word 'Flailing' meaning moving vigorously or
erratically, such as arms flailing helplessly in the water while drowning,
according to reports by Avijit Ghosh in the Times of India yesterday (17
September 2008). Another report of the Times of India yesterday highlighted Dr.
Manmohan Singh’s despair about the gap in
government intelligence as they reported: ‘Reflecting Government's concern
over the recent serial bomb blasts in Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Delhi,
Singh admitted that there were "still vast gaps in intelligence" that needed to
be overcome’.

Thus, Dr. Singh’s new realism with his inward look is the right approach and it
would be quite revealing to him, if only he seriously does a retrospective
soul-searching about the conditions of the Muslims in India, who constitute 13
percent (16 percent according to other views) of the population, and if only he
looks into the grievances of this repressed, downtrodden and marginalized
community, who have been massacred, brutalised and terrorised by thousands of
most callous riots perpetrated in front of the eyes of the world, over a decade
more than half a century.

In the social fabric, ridden by caste system with unequal status and unequal
rights by birth and for life, the other deprived communities in India fare no
better, as the treatment of the Muslims by the 15 percent cast Hindus compares
very well with similar treatments of the Dalits, the near Dalits, the Sikhs,
Buddhists, Christians and other minority communities and minority
nationalities, in this much vaunted hypocrisy touted as the so-called largest
democracy.

It was indeed Dr. Manmohan Singh, who at the start of his premiership,
appointed the Justice Rajinder Sachar Committee for preparation of a report on
the social, economic and educational status of the Muslim community of India.
The committee prepared a 403-page report that was tabled in Parliament on 30
November 2006 - 20 months after obtaining the terms of reference from the Prime
Minister’s Office. Now, for the first time, it was shown with statistics, how
marginalized the Muslim community have been in India. Even the ‘Ananda Bazar
Patrika’ exclaimed that in many respects the conditions of the Muslims are
worse than those of the Dalits. What choices do they have then, if they are
relentlessly pushed against the wall only to be shot? Will they not launch any
struggle to survive??

Peter Foster in his dispatch titled ‘India: how safe is it now?’ in the
telegraph.co.uk on 15 September 2008 drew bold and correct conclusions: "In the
longer term, .. , India will have to do more for its marginalized Muslim
minority if it wants to choke off recruits to the Jihadi cause. If you look at
the socio-economic statistics, the only category Muslims top is the number held
in prison. On literacy, social welfare, government jobs etc, Muslims
continuously languish in the lower reaches of pretty well every set of
indicators you care to choose.”

Good and sound conclusion. But the big question is: Who is going to tame the
Hindu fundamentalists? The Hindu fundamentalists not only whip up communal
tensions and perpetrate thousands of riots, but according to reports, they have
also been engaged in engineering ‘Islamic terrorism’.

On 15 September 2008, Shabnam Hashmi, Member, National Integration Council and
Dr. Ram Puniyani, Social Activist and writer, jointly circulated ‘An Open
Letter to the Prime Minister of In

Important Fatwas on Ramadan
** *

**

*Q- Whoever missed some fasts during Ramadan for a valid reason, then is he
required to make up the (missed) fasts consecutively, or is it permissible
for him to split them up?*

A- It is permissible to split them up when making them up, because the Aayah
does not stipulate it be done consecutively, rather, Allah (Subhaanahu wa
Ta'ala) has mentioned in that regard that which indicates the permissibility
of making up (the missed fasts) by splitting them up.

However, that which is preferable is that they be made up consecutively,
since this is the true essence behind making up (the missed fasts), because
the days which were missed were consecutive, so likewise they should be made
up consecutively.

– Sheikh Ibn Jibreen, Fataawa Ramadan - Volume 2, Page 656, Fatwa No.660,
Fataawa as-Siyaam - Page 125

*Q- Is it permissible to make up missed fasts of Ramadan on Thursday and
Friday or not?*

*A-* Whoever missed any fasts of Ramadan, then it is permissible to make up
(the missed) fasts on both Thursday and Friday and likewise offer voluntary
fasts (on both these days). However, that which is prohibited is to single
out Friday by fasting a voluntary fast.

– The Permanent Committee, Fataawa Ramadan - Volume 2, Pages 657-658, Fatwa
No.663, Fataawa al-Lajnah ad-Daa.imah lil-Buhooth al-`Ilmiyyah wal-Iftaa. -
Fatwa No.11810

*Q- A man has fasts from Ramadan to make up, (so) is it permissible for him
to split the fasts up (rather than fast them all consecutively)?*

*A-* Yes, it is permissible for him to make up that which is required of him
by splitting them up over a number of days, due to the saying of Allah
(Subhaanahu wa Ta'ala):

{...and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one
did not observe fasts must be made up] from other days...}, *[Soorah
al-Baqarah, Aayah 185*

...and He (Subhaanahu wa Ta'ala) did not stipulate for them to be made up
consecutively.

Fatwa No.6422

*Q-* *What are the best days for voluntary fasting and the best months for
discharging the zakah?*

* *

*A*- The best days for voluntary fasting are:

• Monday and Thursday (of every week);

• The 13th, 14th and 15th days of each lunar month;

• The 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah, and particularly the Day of 'Arafah;

• The 10th day of Muharram ('Aashooraa) in addition to fasting the day
before it or the day after it;

• Six days during the month of Shawwaal.

As for the Zakah, then it is to be discharged in any month - after the
passing of a complete year, and once the wealth has reached the minimum
amount upon which Zakah is liable,

wayaki. The husband cannot refuse to take care of his wife regardless of having
a job or even being a millionaire. If she was a millionaire and she wanted him
to take care of her financially then he HAS to do that. It is her right and it
is one of the conditions of getting married. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi
wassalam) said to get married and if you cannot afford to then fast because
fasting decreases the sexual desire.

You shouldn't says "insha'allah" with her not marrying again. She should marry
again if she can find a good brother. There was a sister that was divorced 11
times within one community, but that didn't make her give up on marriage. Don't
blame the institution of marriage because of the people. Blame the people who
make marriage a bad thing. It is your duty to find out everything before
marrying someone instead of rushing in and then blaming islam or marriage
because that bad person.

The ones who went to marry non-muslim men, didn't marry anyone but are living a
life of adultery. Their marriage to non-muslims doesn't count and is invalid so
their life is of that an adulterous woman. Any children they have will be
illegitimate children. She is committing many major sins with such union. It
would have been better for to get married and get divorced so many times than
to be married to a kaffir. She would atleast be married islamicly and divorced
islamicly and would not be committing any major sin (especially zina) and she
would be compensated in her akhirah for all her suffering.

It is very important for women (and men too, but especially women) to do a
proper research on the guy before marrying. Just because he has a beard, prays
in the masjid, talks with islamic words all the time, it doesn't mean he is
religious or will be a good husband. Don't be fooled by things that can be used
to fool someone. If you are not a good judge of character then find someone
people who are and then have them with you when you meet the person, and meet
him (or her) several times. Many times people don't do their part of proper
investigation and then blame the wrong things (like Islam or marriage). The
sisters who reverted to Islam, need to be extra careful since they are usually
high on faith and believe the other person to be good like themselves so they
don't do deep investigation.

p.s. If you don't know already, the number 786 doesn't mean "Bismillah" like
what many desis believe.

McCain group sending anti-Islan DVDs to homes

This week, 28 million copies of a right-wing, terror propaganda DVD are being
mailed and bundled in newspaper deliveries to voters in swing states. The
60-minute DVDs, titled "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West," are
landing on doorsteps in a campaign coinciding with the 7th anniversary of the
Sept. 11 attacks. Funding is coming from a New York-based group called the
Clarion Fund, a shadowy outfit whose financial backers are unclear.

The program was originally shown on Fox News in the days leading up to the 2006
mid-term elections, and right-wing activist David Horowitz toured the country
screening the film on college campuses during 2007. Mainstream religious groups
have called Obsession biased and divisive. It cuts between scenes of Nazi
rallies and footage of Muslim children being encouraged to become suicide
bombers.

Talking heads in the film include infamous anti-Muslim, self-proclaimed
"islamophobes" like Daniel Pipes and Walid Shoebat. In 2001, Pipes claimed the
"presence" and "enfranchisement" of Muslims in the U.S. presented "true dangers
to American Jews." Shoebat is an evangelical Christian who falsely claims to be
a former Muslim terrorist. Last year, Shoebat told the Missouri Springfield
News-Leader, "Islam is not the religion of God - Islam is the devil."

As detailed in an OffTheBus report on HuffPo two days ago, the DVDs were
distributed last weekend in national editions of the New York Times and Wall
Street Journal within selected swing states. These included Ohio, Pennsylvania,
Michigan, Colorado, Iowa, Florida, Wisconsin, Nevada, New Hampshire and
Virginia.

Sally Lopez of Lemoyne, PA displays a copy of the DVD that came in the mail.

Here in North Carolina, another battleground state that John McCain must win to
reach 270 electoral votes, 160,000 copies of the DVD are to be distributed
tomorrow by the state's leading newspaper.

The Raleigh News & Observer reported yesterday on its Under The Dome politics
blog that the paper is preparing to bundle copies of the DVD with this
Saturday's newspapers. Jim McClure, vice president of display advertising for
the N&O, said the "ultimate decision" to distribute the DVDs had been made by
publisher Orage Quarles, and compared the propaganda to harmless household
samples.

"'Obviously, we have distributed other product samples, whether it's cereal
or toothpaste,' he said. He declined to say how much the agency paid."
The News & Observer recently announced deep buyouts and layoffs for its
employees. It is owned by the struggling McClatchy news chain, which is
slashing newsroom jobs and pages at the papers it owns around the country.
Advertising revenues have plummeted during the ongoing economic downturn, and
it appears the N&O is now auctioning off its journalistic integrity to the
highest bidder.

The paper's announcement touched off immediate criticism from angry subscribers:

"A box of cereal? Toothpaste? Does a box of cereal or a tube of toothpaste
encourage me to look with hatred and suspicion on my law abiding neighbors who
have a different religion than mine? Does cereal and toothpaste lead to
pogroms, religious harassment, fear and intimidation? The trailer for this
video is about hate, pure and simple, and shows the video has only one goal --
to instill fear and hatred of neighbor against neighbor.
If I receive this DVD in my paper, that day, after 22 years of receiving the
N&O, will be the last day of my subscription.

  Please, please reconsider this decision!"

Although supposedly a 501 c(3) non-profit, this week the Clarion Fund's website
featured an article supporting John McCain. Yesterday, the Patriot-News in PA
reported on the DVDs showing up in Pennsylvania, and noted:

"On Wednesday, though, there was an article on the group's new Web site,
www.radicalislam.org, that backed Republican presidential candidate John
McCain. The article discusses both candidates and concludes: "McCain's policies
seek to confront radical Islamic extremism and terrorism and roll it back while
[Barack] Obama's, although intending to do the same, could in fact make the
situation facing the West even worse."
According to Clarion Fund director of communications Gregory Ross, the article
"crossed the line" and would be removed.

Where else exactly are these DVDs landing, and who's funding the Clarion Fund?

If you'd like to let News & Observer executives know how you feel about their
participation in this shameless propaganda campaign, executive editor John
Drescher can be reached at (919) 829-4515, or [EMAIL PROTECTED] Or ask for
publisher Orage Quarles at the paper's main phone number, (919) 829-4500.

 [ RAMADHAN FOCUS 1429 Part 7 ] - Laylatul Qadr

Hazrat Ayesha(radiyallahu anha) reported that: "With the beginning of
the last ten days of Ramadhaan, the Messenger of Allah(sallallahu
alaiyhi wassallam) used to tighten his lower dress and devote whole
nights to prayers, and also wake up the inmates of his house to do the
same." (Bukhari, Muslim)

Hazrat Ibn Umar(radhiyallahu anhu) said, “In the lifetime of
Rasullullah(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam); I dreamt that a piece of
silk cloth was in my hand and it flew with me to whichever part of
Jannah I wanted. I also saw as if two persons (i.e. angels) came to me
and wanted to take me to Jahannam. Then an angel met us and told me
not to be afraid. He then told them to leave me. Hafsa narrated one of
my dreams to the Prophet and the Prophet(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam)
said, 'Abdullah is a good man. Would that he offer the night prayer
(Tahajjud)!' So after that day 'Abdullah (bin 'Umar) started offering
Tahajjud. The companions of Rasullullah(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam)
used to tell him their dreams that (Laylat-ul-Qadr) was on the 27th of
the month of Ramadhaan. Rasullullah(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam)
said, “I see that your dreams agree on the last ten nights of
Ramadhaan and so whoever is in search of it should seek it in the last
ten nights of Ramadhaan.” (Bukhari)

Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri(radhiyallahu anhu) reports that
Rasullullah(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) once performed I'tikaaf for
the first ten days of Ramadhaan. Thereafter he made I'tikaaf in a
Turkish tent (inside the masjid) for the middle ten days. Thereafter
he raised his head out of the tent and said, "Verily in search of
Laylatul Qadr did I perform I'tikaaf for the first ten days, then for
the middle ten days. Then someone (an angel) came and told me, "It is
in the last ten days whosoever has made I'tikaaf with me should
continue for the last ten days". I had indeed been shown that night
and then made to forget, which it shall be. And verily did I see
myself prostrating to Allah with my forehead on mud on the morning
after the night. Seek Laylatul Qadr in the last ten nights of
Ramadhaan; seek it among uneven ones". Hazrat Abu Saeed
Khudri(radhiyallahu anhu) says: "That same night it rained. The roof
on the masjid leaked, and I looked at Rasullullah(sallallahu alaiyhi
wassallam's) two eyes and on his forehead were remains of water and
mud. This was on the morning of the 21st ,due to performing sujood in
muddy clay". (Mishkaat)

Hazrat Ayesha(radhiyallahu anha) reported that the amount of effort
Rasullullah(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) put in worship in the last
ten days of Ramadhaan was not equalled by the effort he put in the
other days. (Muslim)

Hazrat Anas(radhiyallahu anhu) reports, "Once when Ramadhaan
commenced, the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alaiyhi wasallam) said:
'A month has verily dawned over you;wherein lies a night(ie. Laylatul
Qadr) better than a thousand months. Whoever misses such a night has
indeed been deprived of all that is good; and none is deprived of it,
except he who is really unfortunate." (Ibn Majah)

Hazrat Abu Hurairah(radhiyallahu anhu) reported that
Rasullullah(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said: "Whoever stands in
prayer and ibaadah on the night of Power(Laylatul Qadr) with sincere
faith and with sincere hope of gaining reward, his previous sins are
forgiven." (Reported in At Targheeb from Bukhari and Muslim)

Hazrat Ayesha(radhiyallahu anha) reports that Rasullullah (Sallallahu
alaiyhi wassallam) said: "Seek "Laylatul Qadr" among the odd numbered
nights of the last ten days of the month of Ramadhaan(ie. 21, 23, 25,
etc.). " (Mishkaat)

Hazrat Ubaadah bin Saamit (radhiyallahu anhu) said: 'Once Rasullullah
(Sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) came out to inform us of the (true date
of) "Laylatul Qadr". Unfortunately, a quarrel took place between two
Muslims, whereupon he said: "I came out to inform you as to when
"Laylatul Qadr" occurs, but because two people quarrelled with each
other, the knowledge of the correct date was taken away; perhaps that
is better for you. Who knows that this forgetting was better in
Allah's knowledge of things. So, seek it among the ninth, seventh and
fifth nights." (Bukhari, Mishkaat)

Hazrat Ayesha (radhiyallahu anha) reports that Rasullullah (Sallallahu
alaiyhi wassallam) said: "Seek "Laylatul Qadr" among the odd numbered
nights of the last ten days of the month of Ramadhaan." (Mishkaat)

It comes in a Hadith that : “He who is deprived of Laylatul Qadr is as
though he was deprived of all blessings. And only he deprives himself
of the blessings of Laylatul Qadr who is totally deprived.” (Ibn
Majah)

Hazrat Ayesha(radhiyallahu anha) reports: "I said: 'O Messenger of
Allah (Sallallahu alaiyhi was

We learn from Verse 39:67 that the greatness of Allah is far beyond human

God's hand."

We know that our universe is the smallest and innermost of all universes.
Meanwhile, our scientific advances have shown us that our galaxy, the Milky
Way, is 100,000 light years across, and that our universe contains a billion
such galaxies and a billion trillion stars, plus countless decillions of
heavenly bodies. Our universe is estimated to span distances in excess of
20,000,000,000 light years.

Count the Stars! If we take only a quintillion [1,000,000,000,000,000,000] of
the stars (while it may sound a great quantity, but in reality there are
countless more stars than just this) and simply only count them [from zero to
quintillion] one count per second, day and night, this will take 32 billion
years (more than the age of the universe). That is how long it will take to
just "count" them; but Allah "created" them.

What we cannot even "count" Allah "created" them. SUCH is the greatness of
Allah!!

Bismillah [IslamCity] knowledge

2008-09-23 Thread muslimah muslimah
Q: What is the  wisdom behind this prohibition of the one who wants to offer a
sacrifice from cutting his hair etc.??
Answer
he may resemble those in ihraam in some aspects of the rituals performed, and
so that he may draw closer to Allaah by offering the sacrifice. So he leaves
his hair and nails alone until the time when he has offered his sacrifice, in
the hope that Allaah will save him in his entirety from the Fire. And Allaah
knows best.
Question
what does Tamattu means?
answer
he performs ‘Umrah, comes out of ihraam and enters ihraam anew for Hajj called
as TAmattu.
Question
how many psalms sent down?
Answer
according to a hadith narrated by Abu Dhar. Abu Dhar narrated that Prophet
Muhammad (pbuh) said: "Allah sent down one hundred and four psalms, of which
fifty were sent down to Seth." (Sahih al Bukhari)
Question

Bismillah [IslamCity] The Story of Enoch (Idris)

2008-09-23 Thread muslimah muslimah
The Story of Enoch (Idris)
Ibn Kathir
Allah has praised Enoch, describing him as being a prophet and truthful Mention
in the Book (Quran) Idris (Enoch). Verily! He was a man of truth (and) a
prophet. We raised him to a high station. (Ch 1956-57 Quran).
Enoch was born and raised in Babylon following the teachings and religion of
Prophet Adam (pbuh) and his son Seth (pbuh). Enoch was the 5th generation of
the Prophet Adam. He called the people back to his forefathers religion, but
only a few listened to him, while the majority turned away.
Prophet Enoch and his followers left Babylon for Egypt. There he carried on his
mission, calling people to what is just and fair, teaching them certain prayers
and instructing them to fast on certain days and to give a portion of their
wealth to the poor.
He was the first of the Children of Adam to be given prophethood after Adam and
Seth (peace upon them). It is reported that he was the 1st to invent the basic
form of writing. Some of his wise sayings are
Happy is he who looks at his own deeds and appoints them as pleaders to his Lord
None can show better gratitude for Allah's favors than he who shares them with
others. Do not envy people for what they have as they will only enjoy it for a
short while. He who indulges in excess will not benefit from it. The real joy
of life is to have wisdom.
