Bismillah [IslamCity] Story of Prophet Yunus/Jonah (pbuh)
Story of Prophet Yunus/Jonah (pbuh) Prophet Jonah (Yunus) (pbuh) also known as Dhan-Nun. About his people Almighty Allah said: Was there any town community that believed after seeing the punishment, and its Faith at that moment, saved it from the punishment? (the answer is none)--except the people of Jonah; when they believed, We removed from them the torment of disgrace in the life of the present world, and permitted them to enjoy for a while. (Ch 10:98 Quran) The inhabitants of the town of Nineveh were idolaters who lived a shameless life. Prophet Jonah (pbuh) was sent to teach them the worship of Allah. The people disliked his interference in their way of worship, so they argued. "We and our forefathers have worshipped these gods for many years and no harm has come to us." Try as he might to convince them of the foolishness of idolatry and of the goodness of Allah's laws, the ignored him. He warned them that if they kept on with their foolishness, Allah's punishment would soon follow. Instead of fearing Allah, they told Jonah that they were not afraid of his threats. "Let it happen," they told him. Jonah was disheartened. "in that case, I will leave you to your misery!" so saying, he left Nineveh, fearing that Allah's anger would soon follow. Remember Dhan Nun (Jonah), when he went off in anger, and imagined that We shall not punish him (the calamities which had befallen him)! (ch 21:87) Hardly had he left the city when the skies began to change color and looked as if they were on fire. The people were filled with fear by this sight. They recalled the destruction of the people of 'Ad, Thamud and Noah. Was theirs to be a similar fate? Slowly faith penetrated their hearts. They all gathered on the mountain and started to beseech Allah for His mercy and forgiveness. The mountains echoed with their cries. It was a momentous hour, filled with sincere repentance. Allah removed His wrath and showered His blessings upon them once again. When the threatening storm was lifted, they prayed for the return of Jonah so that he could guide them. Meanwhile, Jonah had boarded a small ship in the company of other passengers. It sailed all day in calm waters with a good wind blowing at the sails. When night came, the sea suddenly changed. A horrible storm blew as if it were going to split the ship into pieces. The waves looked wild. They rose up as high as mountains then plunged down like valleys, tossing the ship and sweeping over the deck. Behind the ship, a large whale was splitting the water and opening its mouth. A command had been issued from Almighty Allah to one of the greatest whales of the sea to surface. It obeyed. The whale hurried to the surface of the sea and followed the ship as it had been commanded. The tempest continued and the chief crewman asked the crew to lighten the ship's heavy load. They threw their baggage overboard, but this was not enough. Their safety lay in reducing the weight further, so they decided among themselves to lighten their load by removing at least one person. The captain directed: We will make lots with all of the travelers' names. The one whose name is drawn will be thrown into the sea." Jonah knew this was one of the seamen's traditions when facing a tempest. It was a strange polytheistic tradition, but it was practiced at that time. Jonah's affliction and crisis began. Here was the prophet, subjected to polytheistic rules that considered the sea and the wind to have gods that riot. The captain had to please these gods. Jonah reluctantly participated in the lot, and his name was added to the other travelers' names. The lot was drawn and "Jonah" appeared. Since they knew him to be the most honorable among them, they did not wish to throw him into the angry sea. Therefore, they decided to draw a second lot. Again Jonah's name was drawn. They gave him a final chance and drew a third lot. Unfortunately for Jonah, his name came up again. Jonah realized that Allah's hand was in all this, for he had abandoned his mission without Allah's consent. The matter was over, and it was decided that Jonah should throw himself into the water. Jonah stood at the edge of the ship looking at the furious sea. It was night and there was no moon. The stars were hidden behind a black fog. But before he could be thrown overboard, Jonah kept mentioning Allah's name as he jumped into the raging sea and disappeared beneath the huge waves. The whale found Jonah floating on the waves before it. It swallowed Jonah into its furious stomach and shut its ivory teeth on him as if they were white bolts locking the door of his prison. The whale dived to the bottom of the sea, the sea that runs in the abyss of darkness. Three layers of darkness enveloped him, one above the other; the darkness of the whale's stomach, the darkness of the bottom of the sea, the darkness of the night. Jonah imaged himself to be dead, but his senses became alert when he found he
Bismillah [IslamCity] Australia: Finance for a new world
Finance for a new world Islamic finance is becoming a major area now even outside Islamic jurisdictions. Amal Awad takes a look at the first steps in Australia to create financial products compliant with Shariah law Arguably, the quintessential Aussie dream has always been to "own your own home". With mortgages offered at all major banking and finance institutions, it's certainly an attainable - albeit costly - one for many Australians. However, until recently, for many Australian Muslims this dream has proven even more difficult to realise due to the Islamic prohibition on dealing with interest. Given that all Western banking and regulatory systems deal in interest, it has proven a significant challenge to develop and deliver sound "Shariah-compliant" products that will cater to observant Muslims' unique needs. Certainly, Islamic finance is gaining momentum and attention on the global stage. Besides catering to the Muslim markets throughout the world, particularly in the Middle East and South-East Asia, the combination of ethical, social and financial considerations make Islamic finance an increasingly attractive proposition. Reports estimate there are approximately 300 Islamic financial institutions worldwide with assets amounting to more than US$300 billion ($333 billion) and financial investments estimated at US$400 billion ($445 billion). In 2006, there were 126 Islamic equity funds collectively valued at US$16 billion ($18 billion). The US is also host to a growing Islamic mortgage market. Still, while increased demand for halal (permissible) investment and lending options has precipitated an influx of Shariah-compliant transactions overseas, the Islamic finance industry in Australia is small by comparison. We're yet to see, for example, the establishment of an Islamic bank, and there are no halal mainstream superannuation funds or insurance options (the Islamic concept of mutual insurance takaful) for Muslim consumers. Some might argue this is due to a lack of demand, yet there is no denying that Islamic finance is already taking shape in Australia - particularly in home lending. KPMG has recognised the international growth in other areas too, and is currently involved in promoting Islamic finance to potential clients here. "We've got a large Islamic finance group based in London and Malaysia - they're the two main centres. In Australia ... we've been having some chats with the major banks," says KPMG's Andrew Reynolds, associate director, financial services, based in Perth. "We're doing some demographic studies and essentially we're putting together a business case for [Islamic financial transactions] here." While KPMG don't offer financial services in Australia themselves, they act in an advisory or audit capacity to institutions that do offer them. matter of interest Beyond issues of ethical investment, Islamic finance develops and offers various systems designed to adhere to strict financial principles. This means no interest and favours a "profit-sharing" model and the sharing of financial risks. Specifically, Muslims are instructed not to deal with riba. This is most simply defined as "interest", although its meaning runs deeper. "Different jurisprudential traditions have different perspectives over what exactly constitutes riba. When I'm presenting on it, I say it's normally defined as being interest but there are shades of grey," says Reynolds, who has developed a level of expertise in the area of Islamic finance. In addition to establishing Islamic finance initiatives with clients, Reynolds is a contributor to Business Islamica magazine in Dubai, and in May 2007 he attended the World Islamic Funds Management conference in Bahrain as a speaker. "In Australia we see two separate markets," explains Reynolds. "One is the domestic Australian Muslim; those who live here, work here and require financial services. The other is essentially offering services to Muslims resident overseas." In the Persian Gulf alone there exists a pool of investable funds - estimates have it upwards of US$50 billion ($56 billion). "Obviously because they can't take interest, when the funds are sitting uninvested, they're completely idle. So part of what we can do is to work with our practices in Bahrain [and] Dubai ... and say 'These are the investment opportunities for these funds'. And then work with our domestic clients who require funds to invest them here." So far, Islamic finance transactions are being offered in Australia by at least two small institutions. Iskan Finance (Iskan) and the Muslim Community Co-operative (Australia) Ltd (MCCA). Both offer mortgages based on Islamic systems of lending for homebuyers. With endorsement from Islamic scholars, their products are promoted as Shariah-compliant and primarily cater to the Muslim market. "Islamic finance is not a new phenomenon," points out Neil Aykan, MCCA's public relations manage
Bismillah [IslamCity] Pay for 6 Days and Get 1 Year Benefit
EDUCATION | FUNS | GALLERY INFORMATION | ISLAM | JOBS Pay for 6 Days and Get 1 Year Benefit Special Offer from ALLAH !! HURRY!! Offer valid for this month only !! What if you have to pay 6$ and in return you will get 365$ ?? So you will start saving atleast 1$ per day for 6 days from your pocket money. Similarly, fasting for 6 days in the month of Shawwaal will give you reward for 1 year. It is recommended for the Muslim to fast six days of Shawwaal, and in this there is great virtue and an immense reward. Whoever fasts these six days will have recorded for him a reward as if he had fasted a whole year, as was reported in a saheeh hadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Abu Ayyoob (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever fasts Ramadhaan and follows it with six days of Shawwaal, it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime." (Narrated by Muslim, Abu Dawood, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nisaa'i and Ibn Maajah). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) explained this when he said: "Whoever fasts for six days after (Eid) al-Fitr has completed the year: (whoever does a good deed (hasanah) will have ten hasanah like it)." According to another report: "Allaah has made for each hasanah ten like it, so a month is like fasting ten months, and fasting six days completes the year." (al-Nisaa'i and Ibn Maajah. See also Saheeh al-Targheeb wa'l-Tarheeb, 1/421) . It was also narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah with the wording: "Fasting for the month of Ramadhaan brings the reward of ten like it, and fasting for six days brings the reward of two months, and that is the fasting of the whole year." The Hanbali and Shaafa'i fuqaha' explained that fasting six days of Shawwaal after fasting Ramadhaan makes it as if one has fasted for an entire year of obligatory fasts, because the multiplication of the reward applies even to naafil fasts, because each hasanah brings the reward of ten like it. Another of the important benefits of fasting six days of Shawwaal is that is makes up for any shortfall in a person's obligatory Ramadhaan fasts, because no one is free of shortcomings or sins that have a negative effect on his fasting. On the Day of Resurrection, some of his naafil deeds will be taken to make up the shortcomings in his obligatory deeds, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The first thing for which people will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be their salaah (prayer). Our Lord, may He be glorified and exalted, will say to His angels although He knows best 'Look at the salaah of My slave, whether it is complete or incomplete.' If it is perfect, it will be recorded as perfect, and if something is lacking, He will say, 'Look and see whether My slave did any voluntary (naafil) prayers.' If he did some voluntary prayers, [Allaah] will say, Complete the obligatory actions of My slave from his voluntary actions.' Then all his actions will be dealt with in a similar manner." (Narrated by Abu Dawood). O our Lord! Do not punish us if we forget or fall into error, O our Lord! Do not lay on us a burden like that, which You did lay on those before us, O our Lord! Do not put on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us our sins and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us Aameen. NOTE : This offer is valid for only those muslims who kept fast for whole month of Ramadhaan You can keep fasting on any 6 days of the whole month of Shawwal. Bismillah [IslamCity] Non-Muslims Favor Islamic Finance
Non-Muslims Favor Islamic Finance http://www.islamonline.net/servlet/Satellite?c=Article_C&cid=1195032536309&pagename=Zone-English-News/NWELayou CAIRO - Islamic finance, an industry picking up steam worldwide, is increasingly appealing to non-Muslims who find the Shari`ah -compliant service much fairer than traditional banking. "The terms are better than on conventional loans," David Ong-Yeoh, a Malaysian public relations executive, told the New York Times on Thursday, November 22. Islam forbids Muslims from receiving or paying interest on loans. Shari`ah-compliant Islamic banking operates by sharing profit or loss between the bank and its clients. Financing deals resemble lease-to-own arrangements, layaway plans, joint purchase and sale agreements, or partnerships. Ong-Yeoh, 41, is one of many non-Muslims opting for a growing range of Islamic products offering competitive returns. He first sought a 30-year fixed loan from an Islamic financial institution for his home. He later took another Islamic loan for his car. "It's just taking advantage of the system." Ong-Yeoh is not alone. E-lene Kee, a Buddhist corporate lawyer, advises clients to use Islamic loans to finance construction projects. "We look at these things just like Apple or Berkshire Hathaway." At Kuwait Finance House's Malaysian unit 40 percent of the depositors and 60 percent of its borrowers are non-Muslims. "It's about respecting the interests of the different parties, avoiding taking advantage of any situation of any counterparty and putting in place fair treatment," explains Rasheed Mohammed al-Maraj, governor of the central bank of Bahrain. In addition to Islamic loans, there are Islamic bonds, Islamic credit cards and Islamic derivatives. Islamic bankers cannot receive or provide funds for anything involving alcohol, gambling, pornography, tobacco, weapons or pork. Booming Islamic finance is already one of the fastest growing sectors in the global financial industry. Hang Seng Bank, the second largest bank in Hong Kong and a subsidiary of global banking giant HSBC, launched on Thursday the Hang Seng Islamic China Index Fund, Hong Kong's first Islamic fund. "The Fund will help investors capture the potential investment returns generated by growing international interest in these markets," said William Leung, general manager of the bank's personal financial services and wealth management. Hang Seng is only the latest in a long list of international institutions, including Citigroup, HSBC and Deutsche Bank, going into the Islamic banking business. Currently, there are nearly 300 Islamic banks and financial institutions worldwide whose assets are predicted to grow to $1 trillion by 2013. In Asia, Islamic finance is growing in double digits, with predominantly-Muslim Malaysia effectively establishing itself as a regional, if not global, hub. Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore are also among the countries promoting Islamic finance. In the Middle East, Saudi Arabia's largest lender, National Commercial Bank, overhauled its entire retail business to make it Shari`ah-compliant. Tunisia and Morocco have also authorized their first Islamic banks this year. Shari`ah -compliant loans and bonds are already available in the US and Britain has decided to do the same. "This is an industry on its way from a niche industry to becoming a truly global industry," Khawaja Mohammad Salman Younis, the managing director for operations in Malaysia for Kuwait Finance House, told the Times. "In the next three to five years you'll see Islamic banks coming out in Australia, China, Japan and other parts of the world." Bismillah [IslamCity] Story of Prophet LutLot (pbuh)
Story of Prophet LutLot (pbuh) Prophet Abraham (PBUH) left Egypt accompanied by his nephew Lut (PBUH), who then went to the city of Sodom (Sadum), which was on the western shore of the Dead Sea. This city was filled with evil. Its residents waylaid, robbed and killed travelers. Another common evil among them was that men had sex with men instead of with women. This unnatural act later became known as sodomy (after the city of Sodom). It was practiced openly and unashamedly. It was at the height of these crimes and sins that Allah revealed to Prophet Lut (PBUH) that he should summon the people to give up their indecent behavior, but they were so deeply sunk in their immoral habits that they were deaf to Lot's preaching. Swamped in their unnatural desires, they refused to listen, even when Lot warned them of Allah's punishment. Instead, they threatened to drive him out of the city if he kept on preaching. Allah the Almighty revealed The people of Lot (those dwelt in the towns of Sodom in Palestine) belied the Messengers when their brother Lot said to them Will you not fear Allah and obey Him Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. SO fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism) my reward is only from the Lord of the Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists). Go you in unto the males of the Alamin (mankind), and leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your wives Nay, you are a trespassing people! They said If you cease not, O Lot! Verily, you will be one of those who are driven out! HE said I am indeed, of those who disapprove with severe anger and fury your (this evil) action (of sodomy). My Lord! Save me and my family from what they do. SO We saved him and his family, all except an old woman (this wife) among those who remained behind. (Ch 26160-171 Quran) The doings of Lot's people saddened his heart. Their unwholesome reputation spread throughout the land, while he struggled against them. As the years passed, he persisted in his mission but to no avail. No one responded to his call and believed except for the members of his family, and even in his household, not all the members believed. Lot's wife, like Noah's wife, a disbeliever. Allah the Almighty declared Allah set forth an example for those who disbelieve, the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were under two of Our righteous slaves, but they both betrayed their (husbands, by rejecting their doctrines) so they (Noah & Lut) benefited them (their respective wives) not, against Allah, and it was said Enter the Fire along with those who enter! (Ch 6610 Quran) If home is the place of comfort and rest, then Lut found none, for he was tormented both inside and outside his home. His life was continuous torture and he suffered greatly, but he remained patient and steadfast with his people. The years rolled by, and still not one believed in him. Instead, they belittled his message and mockingly challenged him Bring Allah's Torment upon us if you are one of the truthful! (Ch 2929 Quran). Overwhelmed with despair, Lot prayed to Allah to grant him victory and destroy the corrupt. Therefore, the angels left Abraham (pbuh) and headed for Sodom the town of Lut (pbuh). They reached the walls of the town in the afternoon. The first person who caught sight of them was Lot's daughter, who was sitting beside the river, filling her jug with water. When she lifted her face and saw them, she was stunned that there could be men of such magnificent beauty on earth. One of the tree men (angels) asked her O maiden, is there a place to rest Remembering the character of her people she replied, Stay here and do not enter until I inform my father and return. Leaving her jug by the river, she swiftly ran home. O father! she cried. You are wanted by young men at the town gate and I have never before seen the like of their faces! Lot felt distressed as he quickly ran to his guests. He asked them where they came from and where they were going. They did not answer his questions. Instead they asked if he could host them. He started talking with them and impressed upon them the subject of his people's nature. Lot was filled with turmoil; he wanted to convince his guests without offending them, not to spend the night there, yet at the same time he wanted to extend to them the expected hospitality normally accorded to guests. In vain he tried to make them understand the perilous situation. At last, therefore, he requested them to wait until the night fell, for then no one would see them. When darkness fell on the town, Lot escorted his guest to his home. No one was aware of their presence. However, as soon as Lot's wife saw them, she slipped out of the house quietly so that no one noticed her. Quickly, she ran to her people with the news and it spread to all the inhabitants like wildfire. The people rushed towards Lot quickly and excitedly. Lot wa
Bismillah [IslamCity] Muslim Charity leaders in USA on trial again!!!
Muslim Charity leaders in USA on trial again!!! The Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF) — once the largest American Muslim charity — never funded violence. It simply provided food, clothes, shelter, medical supplies and education to the suffering people in Palestine and other countries. *HLF: A victim of 9/11 hysteria* On December 4, 2001, the United States government shut down the HLF, accusing it of financially supporting the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Embarrassing for them, the U.S. government never found a single piece of evidence showing that the HLF financed Hamas. So they changed their accusations. Nearly 3 years later, the U.S. government's new claim was that the HLF supported organizations — zakat committees — that were somehow linked to Hamas. The closure of the HLF was obviously motivated by politics and fear. *About the trial* The HLF trial began Tuesday, July 16, 2007. The five defendants are Ghassan Elashi, Shukri Abu-Baker, Mufid Abdulqader, Abdulrahman Odeh and Mohammad El-Mezain. These noble Palestinian-American gentlemen are innocent and their only crimes were helping ease the plight of the Palestinians. On Monday, October 22, 2007, U.S. District Judge A. Joe Fish declared a mistrial because jurors deadlocked on all of the counts against four defendants. One defendant, Mohammad El-Mezain, was aquitted on all but the first charge. The government plans to retry the case, starting September 22, 2008. *Are we repeating history?* Something is very familiar about the HLF case, but that doesn't make it right. Did Japanese-Americans deserve to be thrown in internment camps? Nope. Did African-Americans deserve to eat at segregated restaurants, sleep in segregated hotels or drink from segregated water fountains? Nope. Does the HLF deserve to be persecuted for feeding Palestinian orphans and widows? Again, nope. *Who should really be on trial?* For nearly half a century, Israel has occupied Palestine and denied Palestinians their basic human rights. The occupation has caused numerous horrifying outcomes such as the destruction of homes, the killing of innocent children and even the establishment of checkpoints around the West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem. So we ask: If occupation obviously shatters lives, while charity builds them and charity feeds children, while occupation kills them, why is a charity organization — not occupation — paying the price? Noor Elashi speaks to your heart Please forward this message around: This is Noor Elashi, the daughter of a defendant in the Holy Land Foundation Retrial. During the past three weeks, I have felt my heart shatter a few times as I witnessed prosecutors use vindictive approaches such as character assassination, fear-mongering and guilt by association as an attempt to convict my dad. Sitting in the courtroom, I've felt my blood boil and freeze and boil again in a few seconds time. And as I looked behind me, my eyes scanning the room in search for faces of encouragement and moral support, I found that it was mostly empty with the majority of the benches unoccupied. My dad and these men ran the largest American Muslim charity, saving hundreds of thousands of lives worldwide. We should be tremendously proud of them. They were honorable leaders in their communities. And now, they are paying a price for sponsoring orphans, assisting widows, equipping clinics, planting trees and wiping away tears. I know you have your jobs and schoolwork and other priorities. But what if this was your dad, your uncle, your cousin, your husband or your best friend? Gratitude from the bottom of my heart goes out to everyone who has attended so far. I sincerely hope to see the rest of you soon. Next week, the retrial will run from Tuesday, Oct. 14 to Friday, Oct. 17. For the following four weeks or so, the retrial will take place Mondays through Thursdays. You can come ANYTIME between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. (There's a lunch break between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.) To read about the case so far, visit www.freedomtogive.com ** *Thanks, Noor Elashi A Proud Daughter of Ghassan Elashi *
Bismillah [IslamCity] A thought
As Salaamu Alaikum A THOUGHT BECOME A DAA'EE (GUIDE) --- Guiding people, teaching them and advising them opens up a door of guidance for an individual - since the reward for an action is its like - every time he guides someone and teaches him, then Allah will (further) guide him and teach him. Therefore, he will become a guide and guided, as occurs in the supplication of the Messenger of Allah, which has been reported by at-Tirmidhee and others: "O Allah, beautify us with the adornment of eemaan, make us guides (for others), guided, not astray, leading others astray, peaceful to Your close friends (awliyaa), warring with Your enemies. With Your love do we love those who love You and with Your enmity do we show enmity to those who oppose You." ~ IBNU QAYYIM AL-JOWZY ~ PoEtEsS "Scarlet headscarf I wear is as red as a rose with a perfect pose but I care what's inside me!"…Zohra Moosa (Deaf Poet) *** {Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.} (Holy Quran-16:125) {And who is better in speech than he who [says: "My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness)," and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: "I am one of the Muslims."} (Holy Quran-41:33) The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels." Bismillah [IslamCity] Are we living in the period of mob justice ?
"Are we living in the period of mob justice where it is not the principles of Truth and Justice which rule the judicial system but the collective conscience of society?" - Shiva Sunder, Journalist Hindu intellectuals' take on terrorism, serial blasts Submitted by Tarique Anwar on 8 October 2008 - 5:18pm. http://www.twocircles.net/2008oct08/hindu_intellectuals_take_terrorism_serial_blasts.html By Md. Ali, TwoCircles.net, Patna: It is not that only Muslims are critical of probes of serial bombings and terrorist attacks in the country and media coverage thereof; there is a big silent majority that includes Hindu intellectuals who have the similar views. TwoCircles.net talked to some academicians and intellectuals in Delhi, Patna and Bangalore to get their views on the probes of serial blasts, spread of terrorism, faltering judicial system and vanishing journalistic ethics. Probe of bombings R K Dwivedi, a Reader in Delhi University, rejects allegations that only Muslims are involved in every blast and terrorist attack in the country. "As far as the recent blasts or the terror attack on the Parliament are concerned, tell me, has there been any impartial enquiry," Dwivedi asks and himself answers in negative. "Then how can one say that a particular community is involved when none of them have been proved guilty in a court of law except in certain cases on the basis of confessions in the police custody?" he questions adding that it very difficult for us to believe police claims. Bangalore-based Journalist Shiva Sunder demands thorough probe of all blasts in the country and terrorist attacks starting from the attack on the Parliament. "All the blasts and attacks right from the attack on the Indian Parliament need to be thoroughly investigated. What is very problematic is that there hasn't been any judicial enquiry into these blasts, nor has there been any conviction in these cases" Sunder says. He demands that the Judiciary and Executive should expose the real culprits behind these blasts through impartial investigation but doubts whether the government will ever conduct such enquiries. Principal of a college in Patna (who wanted to remain anonymous, given his position) says: "As far as the investigation of the recent blasts is concerned what is happening is that the suspicion is being given the status of evidence both by the investigative agencies and the media." Instead of hard evidence and proofs cases are built on mere suspicion which is more a prejudice and is the result of demonization of a particular community, he says. Terrorism Dwivedi is critical of all kinds of terrorism either by religious fanatics or others. He says what Hindutva extremists are doing is a clear case of terrorism and blames them and the media for helping Muslim extremists in legitimizing their share of acts of terror in the name of Islam. "Whose terrorism are we talking about? One by the Hindutva goons who don't have anything to do with the Sanatana Dharma that Hinduism is? By RSS, Shiv Sena and their affiliates like VHP and Bajrang Dal who have terrorized all the minorities across the country in the name of Hinduism which ironically is tolerant to the differences and allows diversity of viewpoints?" he asks. "Or the terrorism by a few people who try to gain legitimacy in the name of Islam as M. J. Akbar talks about in his article "Fasadi, not Jihadi". And the irony is that it is not the Indian Muslims but the media and the Hindu right wing which provide them legitimacy and recognition by terming it as "Islamic Terrorism," he argued. "Terrorism takes birth from injustice and socio-economic oppression to the point when you don't leave any peaceful means of expressing for any group or individual to express their views, he says. "But by saying this I am not at all implying that Muslim community is behind these blasts. My precise point is that why there are two rules of law, one for the minority and another for the majority," he points out. On the purpose of Hindutva terrorism, he said: "They have their own political interests which they achieve by terrorizing and causing killings of innocent and marginalized minorities as they did in Indore this May or as they have been doing in Karnataka and Orissa for two months. " Bangalore-based journalist Shiv Sunar says terrorism is a media generated political term which doesn't have a generic meaning. "If it means to terrorise then various Hindutva organizations should also be termed as terrorist organizations," he says. "But the point is that it has been put to its selective use only to demonise a particular community. There is a politics in its selective use which is guided by Hindutva interests in the national context," he argues. The Patna principal sees deprivation and oppression at the root of terrorism. "Terrorism breeds when an individual or a group is driven to the point of death and desperation, when s/he is denied their constitutional r
Bismillah [IslamCity] Asthma & How to Control It.
ASTHMA & HOW TO CONTROL IT Copyleft: Jagannath Chatterjee Asthma is a very painful condition that affects many children today. It can continue up to adulthood and be a life long problem. Many medicines and inhalers are now available but these offer only temporary relief. With time the asthma aggravates as the patient gets weaker and weaker. Many doctors are tempted to use steroids that have their own dangers. What is asthma? It is more than the breathing difficulty that is obvious at the surface. It is a mixture of nervous spasms and the narrowing down of the respiratory channels due to swelling which makes it difficult for the patient to breathe, both in and out. Sometimes it may have an effect on the heart, commonly known as cardiac asthma. If inherited, asthma can be difficult to cure. In asthma we see an affection of the nervous system as well as the allergy part, the patient being sensitive to food or other substances. Doctors have seen associated symptoms like the formation of gas in the stomach. Asthma patients show high levels of stress, anxiety and irritation adding the psycosomatic dimension. Asthma can be brought on by grief, shock and even laughter. How can we cure such a difficult condition? I recommend a combination of yoga, ayurveda, naturopathy and homeopathy. But before that we need to discuss certain important points. 1. Asthma patients may also suffer from eczema. 2. Vaccines have been known to cause allergies and subsequently asthma.. In fact, prior to vaccines, asthma was mostly hereditory and was seen along with eczema. A research into prevalence of asthma and other respiratory disorders before the small pox vaccine was given en masse will bring out the role of vaccines in the asthma/chronic cold/pneumonia/ other respiratory disorders epidemic that is seen in children and adoloscents today. The role of pesticides and other harmful chemicals behind asthma and its complications is slowly being recognised. In cases where eczema and asthma coexist there should be no effort to suppress the eczema with modern medicines and ointments, it will only aggravate the condition. Children are better off not being vaccinated as asthma risk is very small amongst the unvaccinated. Moreover colds in children are best treated homeopathically so that they do not progress to pneumonia, bronchitis and subsequently asthma. Yoga is a very good option. It strengthens the chest and stomach muscles that help the patient breathe easy. It also reduces stress and improves both the nervous and the digestive system. It strengthens the immune system thus doing away with the allergy. Often when the body gets strong with the yogic exercises, the eczema suppressed earlier may show itself. As I have said earlier this should be treated as a good sign and not be interefered with. Naturopathy will stabilise the digestion system and strengthen immunity. It helps with detoxification too. It has been observed that a proper vegetarian diet, alkaline food, proper evacuation of bowels, and Vit C rich food immensely helps patients. For patients of chronic asthma a daily intake of Vit C 1500 mg daily (3 doses of 500mg) is highly recommended in case of adults. This may bring on a diarrhoea as a part of detoxification. The dose may be reduced to 1000mg if the diarrhoea persists. At a time the body can only absord 500mg, hence the need to spread the dose over the day. Children can be given amla juice as per the advice of an ayurved/naturopath. Ayurvedic preparations for asthma have to be chosen according to the body type of the patient. A good doctor should be able to do this. Medicines have to be taken for a long time and start showing results after around three to six months. Triphala is a very good preparation in ayurveda that takes care of both the cold as well as the digestion problems. Chawanaprash contains clarified butter and must be taken with caution by those with a weak digestive system. I personally took a preparation called Pankajkasturi for a long time. Making tea of Ocimum (Tulsi) leaves, Zingiber (adrak), and golmorich (pepper) and taking it every hour helps during an attack by loosening the mucous. Chamomille leaves can be added to have a soothing effect. Homeopathy has a wide range of medicines to treat asthma. There are different remedies for controlling the acute attacks and then curing the chronic tendency. Homeopathically asthma is a combination of the miasms Psora, Sycosis and Tuberculosis. The nightly aggravation indicates a Syphillitic miasm as well. This complex scenario requires very careful prescription. Psoric patients are irritable and snap when talked to. Sycotic patients keep their feelings to themselves and may not even communicate the symptoms, being secretive in nature. The Tubercular are very difficult to treat as they have the habit of travelling from one doctor to another and trying out whatever remedies they hear
