Bismillah [IslamCity] Pictures of Antarctica, the Coldest Beautiful Place

2008-11-30 Thread Arun M
Antarctica is on average the coldest, driest and windiest place on Earth. 98%
of Antarctica is covered by ice,
which is on average 1,6 kilometers (1 mi) in thickness. As there is
little precipitation, the interior of the continent is technically the
largest desert in the world, but a frozen desert. As for the temperature,
scientists recorded the world’s lowest temperature: −89 °C (−129 °F).
]

Though it’s fifth-largest continent in area, its population is about
1000, at the same time there are no permanent human residents, only
those conducting and supporting scientific research and other work on
the continent. But there are lots of penguins, fur seals and
cold-adapted plants. Maybe Antarctica is so beautiful, because there are not
many people, it has no government and belongs to no country.
Enjoy beautiful pictures of the coldest place on Earth.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Monorail in holy sites by 2010

2008-11-30 Thread Shahid
Plans underway for monorail to link Makkah's holy sites

04/04/2007

Plans are underway to connect Saudi Arabia's holy sites by monorail to
facilitate transportation for Hajj pilgrims, the Arab News reported today. The
$1.9 billion project involves building monorails in Makkah, Mina, Muzdalifah
and Arafat.

A monorail is a single rail, generally elevated, that is used as a track for
passenger or freight vehicles. A key advantage is that monorails do not
obstruct traffic on the ground, and they are environmentally-friendly.
The monorail proposed for the Makkah-area project would have four to eight
carriages and can transport 20,000 passengers an hour - nearly 800,000 pilgrims
during the Hajj. The project also includes parking facilities so that pilgrims
can park their cars at the entrance of Makkah and then board the monorail.

The Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA), the Ministry of
Transport and the Higher Commission for the Development of Makkah and Madinah
have all reviewed a study of the project and welcome it. The study was prepared
by the International Transport Projects Company, which is now contacting Saudi
authorities to obtain the appropriate license to implement the project.

The Makkah-area monorail is expected to be completed in four years. A similar
project is under consideration for Madinah.

Monorail in holy sites by 2010
 06/06/2008

MAKKAH: Haj pilgrims traveling between Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifa may be able
to take advantage of the proposed monorail project by 2010, a local newspaper
reported yesterday. Nine international companies have been invited to bid for
the SR5-billion project.

Dr. Habib Zainul Abideen, undersecretary for development projects at the
Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, said the winning company would be
announced before September.

He added that work would start before Haj this year to ensure the project's
completion in 18 months.

Zainul Abideen said that a French consultancy is finalizing details and designs
of the project, which will be duly provided to the bidding companies. He said
that the train would run at heights of between eight to 10 meters in order not
to obstruct the movement of vehicles and pedestrians on the ground.

Residents of Makkah will be able to use the monorail to perform the stoning
ritual in Mina, he added.

Work on SR20bn Makkah monorail to begin after Haj

P. K. Abdul Ghafour | Arab News

JEDDAH: Work on the first phase of an SR20 billion Makkah monorail project will
start in December soon after the Haj season to facilitate transportation of
pilgrims between the holy sites of Makkah, Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifa. The
project is designed to transport five million pilgrims.

An agreement will be signed with the winner of the contract to implement the
project soon after Haj, said Dr. Habeeb Zain Al-Abidine, deputy minister of
municipal and rural affairs and secretary-general of the Commission for
Development of Makkah, Madinah and the Holy Sites. Five specialized
international companies, which were short-listed from 10, are competing for the
multibillion dollar project, he said, adding that a meeting chaired by Prince
Miteb, minister of municipal and rural affairs and chairman of the commission,
would be held tomorrow to open their tenders.

Zain Al-Abidine said a feasibility study conducted by an international company
had proposed five monorails linking the holy sites. Custodian of the Two Holy
Mosques King Abdullah has given his approval to the project that will ease
transportation of more than three million pilgrims between the holy sites.

The feasibility study suggested the second monorail be built two to three
years after the construction of the first one, he said, adding that a single
monorail would cost SR4 billion. The first monorail beginning from Mina will
transport nearly one million pilgrims including 360,000 Arab pilgrims.

Monorail, which is a single rail serving as the track for a wheeled or
(magnetically) levitating vehicle, has been rapidly paving its way as a modern
urban transit system, providing the most-sought-after transportation solutions
for a built-up congested city. The Makkah monorails will be 8 to 10 meters
above the ground to ensure smooth flow of pedestrians and vehicles.

Zain Al-Abidine said the implementation of the project in the holy sites would
help withdraw 25,000 buses from a total of 70,000 used by domestic pilgrims as
well as pilgrims who come by land from neighboring countries. He said the
system would help transport at least 500,000 pilgrims within six to eight hours.

According to the present study, monorails will have a station

Could you kindly explain why the prophet and his wives should be our role
models, given the fact that the prophet was illiterate, and he consumated the
marriage with Aysha when she was only 8 years old?
If he was to be our role model, then we should not go to school, and young
girls should get married at the age of 6?

Islamic Youth Awakening (Sahwah) Campaign - Muslim Youth Code of Honor
http://www.usislam. org/IslamicYouth /muslim_youth_ code_of_honor. htm

http://www.petition online.com/ iyacmych/ petition. html
Please remember that Monday is our Islamic Youth Awakening day.
We, a new generation of young Muslims, in order to protect our Islamic
traditions and achieve Islamic moral excellence, do affirm and pledge this
declaration.
When character and morality are uncommon qualities,
When most media and TV seek to profit from destroying our Islamic identity,
When Western pop culture icons do not represent our values,
When Islamic beliefs are labeled as intolerant and backward,
When secularists seek to remove God from our lives,
When truth is deemed relative and inexplicable.
It is necessary for us, the emerging generation of young Muslims, to stand for
what is right and reclaim the values that have made our civilization one of the
greatest in history. We call our Ummah to a higher standard, a lifestyle based
not on convenience, but on character,
not on what is easy, but what is excellent,
not on what feels good, but what is right,
not on popularity, but on principle,
not on what is tempting, but what is true.
We, as young Muslims, assert our right to determine our future and the future
of our great Ummah. We hold these truths as our God-given rights, and we
embrace them with our hearts and our lives:
We recognize that God, our Creator, is the source of all truth, and the Quran
is the authentic Word of God.
We recognize that Muhammad (PBUH), the last prophet, his companions, and his
wives are our role model for all our life situations.
We pledge to love, honor, and respect our parents, teachers, and elders.
We recognize that we are all brothers and sisters belonging to the great Ummah
of Muhammad (PBUH)
We recognize that Islam is not based on race, color, wealth, tribes, Mazhab,
and nationality. We condemn tribal Muslim feuds in the same nation, and
division of any Muslim country.
We acknowledge the five pillars of Islam: Shahada, Prayer, Fasting, Zakat, and
Pilgrimage to Mecca for the one who can perform this duty. Anyone who believes
in the 5 pillars of Islam is a Muslim.
We will work to see that every person has the opportunity to see and hear about
the Greatness of our God, and the purity of our beloved Prophet Muhammad.
We recognize that human life is sacred, and that killing a single innocent
human is as killing all people.
We reject rhetoric of Takfir against anyone who believes in the Oneness and
Supremacy of God, the prophethood of our beloved Prophet Muhammad, as the last
Messenger of God , in the reality of the Day of Judgment, and in the five
pillars of Islam.
We pledge to respect other Muslims and all places of worships. We recognize
that disagreement between Muslims should only be expressed in respectful
manner.
We understand and respect differences in performing worship between Muslims of
different Mazhabs.
We will live with honor, always striving to do the right thing, even when it is
unpopular.
We will be honest and truthful in matters large and small, regardless of the
consequences.
We will take responsibility for our actions, and not point to governments,
schools, celebrities, parents, or friends to justify our wrong decisions. We
recognize that we are responsible for our mistakes.

We will pursue purity throughout our lives. We will not be seduced by
fabricated ideas of romance and love. We will save our bodies and hearts for
our future spouses, and once married, we commit to

Bismillah [IslamCity] Two methods of Ijtihaad

2008-11-30 Thread Syed Quddusi Shah Aamiri
There were two methods of ijtihaad. One was the method of the 'ulamaa' of
Iraq, called the way of ra'y {choice} or the way of qiyaas {comparision}: if
it was not declared clearly in Qur'aan al-keriim or Hadiith ash-shariif how
to do an action, another action that was clearly expressed in Qur'aan
al-keriim or Hadiith ash-shariif and which was similar to the action in
question would be searched for. When it was found, the action in question
would be compared to it and done in a similar way. After the Sahaabat
al-kiraam {raziallaahu ta'aalaa anhum}, the leader of the mujtahids of this
way was Imaam al-A'zam Abu Haniifa {raziallaahu ta'aalaa anhu}.

The second way was the way of the 'ulamaa' of Hidjaaz, called the way of
riwaaya {tradition}. They considered the traditions of the inhabitants of
al-Madiinat al-Munawwara superior to qiyaas. The greatest of the mujtahids
of this way was Imaam Maalik {raziallaahu ta'aalaa anhu}, who lived in
al-Madiinat al-Munawwara. Al-Imaam ash-Shaafi'ii and Imaam Ahmad ibn Hanbal
{raziallaahu ta'aalaa anhuma} attended his sohbats. Al-Imaam ash-shaafi'ii,
after learning the way of Imaam Maalik, went to Baghdad and learned the way
of al-Imaam al-a'zam {raziallaahu ta'aalaa anhu} from his disciples and
united these two methods. He established a new approach for ijtihaad.
Because he was a very eloquent and literary man, he understood the context
of aayats and hadiiths and decided on each action in accordance with an
alternative he found more emphatic. When he could not find an alternative
strong enough, he himself employed ijtihaad according to the way of qiyaas.
Ahmad ibn Hanbal {raziallaahu ta'aalaa anhu} too, went to Baghdad after
learning the way of Imaam Maalik {raziallaahu ta'aalaa anhu}. There, he
acquired a method of qiyaas from the disciples of al-Imaam al-a'zam
{raziallaahu ta'aalaa anhu}. Yet, because he had memorized a great many
hadiiths, he employed ijtihaad first by examining the way whereby hadiiths
corroborated one another.

Ahmad was taken to al-Ma'moon, I was told about it, so I crossed the

Abu Ja'far, why did you go to the trouble (of coming here) I said, Listen
to me, today you are the leader and the people are following you. By Allaah,
if you accept that the Qur'aan is created, a lot of people will go along
with that, but if you do not, then neither will they. Even if this man
(al-Ma'moon) does not kill you, you will still die, because death is
inevitable, so fear Allaah, and do not go along with (al-Ma'moon).? Ahmad
began to weep and said, Ma sha Allaah Then he said, O Abu Ja'far, say it
again,' so I said it again, and he kept saying, Ma sha Allaah.

With regard to his being taken to al-Ma'moon, Imaam Ahmad said: We reached
al-Rahbah at midnight, and a man came to us and said, Which of you is Ahmad
ibn Hanbal He was told, This man. He said to the camel-driver, 'Slow
down.' Then he said, Listen to me, why should you worry if you get killed
here and go to Paradise Then he said, May Allaah be with you, and left. I
asked about him and I was told, He is an Arab from the tribe of Rabee'ah
who deals with wool in the desert. He is called Jaabir ibn 'Aamir, and they
say good things about him. (Siyar A'laam al-Nubala', 11/241).

In al-Bidaayah wa'l-Nihaayah, it says that a Bedouin *said to Imaam Ahmad:
Listen to me, you are a representative of the people, so do not be bad news
for them. You are the leader of the people today, so beware of doing what
they are asking you to do, lest you bear their sins on the Day of
Resurrection. If you love Allaah, then bear this with patience, for the only
thing standing between you and Paradise is your being killed. Imaam Ahmad
said: His words strengthened my resolve not to do what they were asking me
to do. (Al-Bidaayah wa'l-Nihaayah, 1/332).*

It was reported that Imaam Ahmad said: I never heard any stronger words at
that time than what a Bedouin said to me at Rahbat Tawq, a village between
al- Raqqah and Baghdaad on the banks of the Euphrates. He said, O Ahmad, if
they kill you for the truth, you will be a shaheed (martyr), and if you
live, you will be praised. And so my heart grew strong. (Siyar A'laam
al-Nubala', 11/241).

Imaam Ahmad said of the young man Muhammad ibn Nooh, who accompanied him at
that time of trial: Even though he was so young, he had such great
knowledge, and I never saw anyone who adhered more firmly to the command of
Allaah than Muhammad ibn Nooh, and I hope that his end was good.

*He said to me one day, O Abu 'Abd-Allaah, you are not like me. You are a
man whom people follow, and they are straining their necks to see what you
will do, so fear Allaah and adhere to His commands.? Then he died, and I
prayed the janaazah (funeral) prayer for him and buried him. (Siyar A'laam
al-Nubala', 11/242)*
Even his fellow-prisoners, whom Imaam Ahmad used to lead in prayer in
chains, had a role to play in helping him to stand firm. One day when he was
in prison, Imaam Ahmad said, I don't care about being in prison ? it is no
different from my home ? or about being killed by the sword, but I am afraid
of the trial of being whipped.? One of the other prisoners heard him and
said, Don't worry, O Abu 'Abd-Allaah, it is only two lashes of the whip,
then you don't feel where the rest fall. It was as if this reassured him
and calmed him down. (Siyar A?laam al-Nubala?, 11/240)

Al-Ma'mun adopted this belief, and came to torture Ahmad bin Hambal, so that
he would do the same. al-Ma'mun died, al-Mu'tasim continued in torturing
him, and he took a stand for Allah - the Mighty and Exalted - in which he
honored this religion. Eighteen years, and three rulers who tortured him so
that he would accept and endorse the belief of the Qur'an being created,
but, he refused. Then came al-Wathiq, who reversed all that had happened in
terms of the affair of the creation of the Qur'an. He wanted to honor Ahmad
bin Hambal publicly, but, *Imam* Ahmad refused. So, he sent for his sons and
showered them with gifts, which they accepted. When Ahmad bin Hambal learned
that his sons had accepted the gifts of al-Wathiq, he built a wall between
his home and theirs, boycotting them.

One day, Ahmad bin Hambal became sick. So, his doctor instructed him to
roast a ear of corn in the oven and eat it. So, he bought the corn, and
asked that it be roasted. So, it was taken to the oven of his uncle, Salih.
When it was brought back to Ahmad, he asked: Where did you roast it? They
said: In the oven of your uncle, Salih. He said: I will not even taste
it, as his wealth has been mixed with the gifts of the ruler.

As a result, it got to the point that even the *jinn *would fear him!

A crazed girl was brought to al-Wathiq, so, he said: Send her to Ahmad

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam said,

There are two statements that are light for the tongue
to remember, heavy in the Scales and are dear to the Merciful:

`Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan-Allahil-Azim

[Glory be to Allah and His is the praise, (and) Allah,
the Greatest is free from imperfection)'.''
