In his statement of conversion to Islam last week, Britt stressed the point that Britain also needed a leader to bring whites more easily into Islam, just as Malcom X had done for the blacks of America and to make Islam a more national religion rather than the strange one it is at present. Furthermore, he explained how Islam’s balanced system, strong beliefs and spirituality gave him that hearts contentment. Herbet Scott’s great grand daughter, Emma Clark has also accepted Islam as a way of life, a former designer for the gardens of the Prince of Wales is now involved in designing a mosque’s garden. She stated to the press a few days ago that ‘I accepted Islam after detesting the doubt standards of Western values and to leave from the filth that surrounds it. Most new converts have been greatly influenced by Charles Easton’s book, ‘Islam and the Destiny of Man’. He states that I’ve receives thousands of letters informing me that we have lost hope in today’s Christianity which is following the whims and desires of people and are searching for such a religion which does not have this. The above were examples of people who were directly connected to the kingdom, whose grandparents were the bearers of knighthoods and lordships, who used to sit in the houses of Parliament, wealthy people, from a nation who has never been ruled. But what happened to these people’s progeny? I found these passages through my readings and
thought, Insh'Allah Rahman, it may be of some benefit.
It was written by an independent scholar
living in Turkey, named Henry Bayman, compiled from
two of his books, The Secret of Islam: Love and Law
in the Religion of Ethics, and The Black Pearl, and
gives some insight into an aspect of life in the
Ottoman Empire:

{ In the past, Islamic societies exhibited concern
for social and ecological issues because this was
built in to the very fabric of their religion. The
Ottomans, for example, had practices of a resoundingly
ecological nature, long before ecology was ever heard
of in the West. The quintessence of ecology was, of
course, expressed in the Koran:
BismillahirRahmanirRahim -Eat, drink, but do not
waste. (7: 31) As we all know, the earths resources
will provide for every one, as long as they
are not squandered mindlessly.
The green choice, is primarily and ethical choice;
the science of ecology may tell us that the
destruction of the environment will lead to the
destruction of humanity, but it does not tell us why
such self-destruction is wrong or bad.
In accordance with the Islamic precept, to show
compassion and tolerance toward not only human beings
but all Gods creatures, the Ottomans saw to it that
hungry wolves in the wild were fed carrion.
This not only protected villages from being raided,
but prevented the predator from entering the
endangered species list, because according to their
conception, every living being is precious. The
means for this was a unique institution they called,
the foundation. Thus, the Ottomans had
foundations for the preservation of birds, cats,
mongrels, wildlife, et al. - a delicate ecological
sensibility informed all their actions.
Looking at all the funds and foundations devoted to
preservation in the West today, one cannot help but
remember their predecessors in a less
ecology-conscious age.
People in Turkey are not ordinarily told about such
things, and I learned of them only by coincidence
later in life. If a people themselves
dont know their own heritage, others may well be
excused for their lack of knowledge in this regard.
One of the areas Ottoman culture excelled was security
against poverty. What I am about to tell you may sound
like a fairy tale today, yet it
is the truth, and provides a graphic example of
Benedicts syphon system. The Ottomans had stone
pillars, approximately the size of a human,
which I am informed are still to be found in certain
parts of Istanbul.
(They are said to exist all the way from Central Asia
to the Balkans.)
The purpose these stones served was not as mysterious
as that of the monoliths at Stonehenge, but it may
turn out to be more exciting by far in social terms.
They were called Charity Stones (sadaka tashi) . A
rich person who wanted to make a donation would reach
up to a niche at the top of the stone, where he would
deposit his gift.
Later on, a needy person would come along,reach up,
take what was enough for his needs, and leave the rest
of the money where it was so that another one in need
may find solace. The purpose of this device was to
preserve the anonymity of the poor, thereby saving
them from shame and loss of face. No one was reduced
to begging.
As a saying of the Holy Prophet (ASWS) goes, one of
those who Allahs shade will cover, on the day where
there is no shade but His shade, will be one who gives
sadaqa and conceals it so that his left hand does not
know what his right hand gives. So, this method also
saves the rich from ostentation, pride, and inflated
ego.
Does that sound too good to be true? Were there not,
you may ask, any thieves? Well, it was either that, or
the theives themselves - unlikely as this may seem,
would also be making donations. If they had thieves
these were the kind they had - the Robin Hood kind.
Likewise, during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan,
Suleiman the Magnificent, it is related that soldiers
on the march, when they entered a vineyard and ate
grapes, used to hang a bag of money at the location of
the grapes they had just plucked.
If all this sounds unbelievable, it is still a great
consolation to learn that the descendants of such
ancestors still preserve the meaning of the charity
stones as a sort of atavism. What they accomplished as
a matter of course, we cannot even dream of today. The
equivalent in this day and age would be an open bank
account; but can you imagine the deposits not being
stolen before the poor and needy got to them?
The essence of Ottoman ethics was this: Treat every
human as if s/he were a jewel. This means that a
person should be handled delicately, as a
being of infinite worth. You will not find this stated
in history books, which seldom do justice to this
aspect of Ottoman life, but such was
in fact the ideal - and more often then not -

Constantine the Great, who became Emperor in the year 306 - exactly 1700 years ago - encouraged the practice of Christianity in the empire, which included Palestine. Centuries later, the church split into an Eastern (Orthodox) and a Western (Catholic) part. In the West, the Bishop of Rome, who acquired the title of Pope, demanded that the Emperor accept his superiority. The struggle between the Emperors and the Popes played a central role in European history and divided the peoples. It knew ups and downs. Some Emperors dismissed or expelled a Pope, some Popes dismissed or excommunicated an Emperor. One of the Emperors, Henry IV, walked to Canossa, standing for three days barefoot in the snow in front of the Pope's castle, until the Pope deigned to annul his excommunication. But there were times when Emperors and Popes lived in peace with each other. We are witnessing such a period today. Between the present Pope, Benedict XVI, and the present Emperor, George Bush II, there exists a wonderful harmony. Last week's speech by the Pope, which aroused a world-wide storm, went well with Bush's crusade against Islamofascism, in the context of the Clash of Civilizations. IN HIS lecture at a German university, the 265th Pope described what he sees as a huge difference between Christianity and Islam: while Christianity is based on reason, Islam denies it. While Christians see the logic of God's actions, Muslims deny that there is any such logic in the actions of Allah. As a Jewish atheist, I do not intend to enter the fray of this debate. It is much beyond my humble abilities to understand the logic of the Pope. But I cannot overlook one passage, which concerns me too, as an Israeli living near the fault-line of this war of civilizations. In order to prove the lack of reason in Islam, the Pope asserts that the prophet Muhammad ordered his followers to spread their religion by the sword. According to the Pope, that is unreasonable, because faith is born of the soul, not of the body. How can the sword influence the soul? To support his case, the Pope quoted - of all people - a Byzantine Emperor, who belonged, of course, to the competing Eastern Church. At the end of the 14th century, the Emperor Manuel II Palaeologus told of a debate he had - or so he said (its occurrence is in doubt) - with an unnamed Persian Muslim scholar. In the heat of the argument, the Emperor (according to himself) flung the following words at his adversary: Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached. These words give rise to three questions: (a) Why did the Emperor say them? (b) Are they true? (c) Why did the present Pope quote them? WHEN MANUEL II wrote his treatise, he was the head of a dying empire. He assumed power in 1391, when only a few provinces of the once illustrious empire remained. These, too, were already under Turkish threat. At that point in time, the Ottoman Turks had reached the banks of the Danube. They had conquered Bulgaria and the north of Greece, and had twice defeated relieving armies sent by Europe to save the Eastern Empire. On May 29, 1453, only a few years after Manuel's death, his capital, Constantinople (the present Istanbul) fell to the Turks, putting an end to the Empire that had lasted for more than a thousand years. During his reign, Manuel made the rounds of the capitals of Europe in an attempt to drum up support. He promised to reunite the church. There is no doubt that he wrote his religious treatise in order to incite the Christian countries against the Turks and convince them to start a new crusade. The aim was practical, theology was serving politics. In this sense, the quote serves exactly the requirements of the present Emperor, George Bush II. He, too, wants to unite the Christian world against the mainly Muslim Axis of Evil. Moreover, the Turks are again knocking on the doors of Europe, this time peacefully. It is well known that the Pope supports the forces that object to the entry of Turkey into the European Union. IS THERE any truth in Manuel's argument? The pope himself threw in a word of caution. As a serious and renowned theologian, he could not afford to falsify written texts. Therefore, he admitted that the Qur'an specifically forbade the spreading of the faith by force. He quoted the second Sura, verse 256 (strangely

The steady territorial expansion of the Russian Empire, which at the time extended to the regions of Siberia, Crimea, the Caucasus and Turkestan, as well as a number of Polish territories along the Volga and the Urals, in effect meant that many historically Islamic nationalities came under Russia's rule. According to the first national Census of 1897, approximately 14 million people out of the Nations 130 million were Moslems. The vast majority of those were the Shiites, while in the regions of the Caucasus and Pamir (now Tajikistan) a smaller section of Moslems were the Sunnites. One of the most important goals of the Imperial authorities was to establish solid relations with the Moslem nobility, which, alongside with the clergy and the merchants, was the leading group of the Moslem community in Russia. The hereditary nobility, the descendants of Ghengisids, as well as other noble families constituted a considerable portion of the Moslem social elite. The relationship between the Russian authorities and the Moslem minorities has seen the periods of tension and strain. Although the word of Islam and Moslem institutions were never officially outlawed in Muskovy, the conversion into Orthodox Christianity was generally quite welcomed. Several hundred names of the Turkic origin are listed in the Russian gentry statutes. The Usupovs, the Tenishevs, the Urusovs and many others were the key figures of the political, military and cultural history of Russia. In 1598 ?1605 Boris Godunov, a descendant of one such family, became a ruling Czar of Russia. A number of noble Tatar- Bashkir families offered their service to the Russian Czar, while keeping their Moslem faith. Such families were granted permission to keep their land estates, and even received new lands. Their service was paid from the Czar?s treasury, but nonetheless they did not have rights to own Christian serfs. The 16th and 17th centuries saw the establishment of the so-called Kasimov fiefdom, -a Moslem khanate, located to the south of Moscow and vassal to Russia. The governor of the Kasimov khanate had to be a Moslem descendant of the Ghengisids; the lands were mainly inhabited by the Tatars, who were bound by obligation to serve to the Russian State. In the numerous wars waged by the Muscovite State against its adversaries, detachments of Moslem Tatars fought side by side with the Russians. The Moslem soldiers helped Muscovy to achieve a decisive victory over the militia of the city of Novgorod at the river Shelon. In 1552 the Moslem troops of Kasimov Tatars ?the loyal vassals of Moscow- joined the Orthodox Russian soldiers in their offensive against the Tatar kingdom of Kazan. It should be noted that the intrinsic conflicts that followed the annexation of the regions along the Volga, were not, by and large, based on the Russians vs. non-Russians principle- the position of both parties was rarely determined by the issues of national or religious identity. The conflicts of this troublesome period were rooted in the confrontation between the advocates of the idea of the multinational state and the opponents of the single Moscow-controlled State. To illustrate the point, one could turn to the events of the year 1612, when the combined Kazan force, comprised of the Russians and the Tatars, arrived in the city of Yaroslavl to serve in militia. After the split-up that followed, a portion of Orthodox Christians and Moslems stayed to serve the Motherland and free Russia from the alien yoke. Others made a choice of going on with their rebellion, and according to the chronicle,great trouble and many calamities had they brought to the land. In 1613, when the Zemskii Sobor elected Michael Romanov as the new Czar, the deed was signed by a large group of individuals, with perhaps 700 members. Among those were the seven Tatar noblemen, who spoke for the revival of the single Russian State on behalf of the Moslems of Russia. The reign of Catherine the Great brought about a major change in the state religious policy and the attitude towards Islam in particular. On June 17, 1773 the Empress signed a landmark decree on religious toleration in Russia. By the terms of the Kucuc Kaynarca peace treaty, the Russian government was obliged to ensure the inviolability of all religious freedoms for Moslems. Since then and up to the early 20th century Russia recognized the Ottomans? right for caliphate, or the supreme spiritual power over Sunnite Moslems, even those under Russian authority. In the meantime the Russian government began pursuing the policy of incorporating the Empires Islamic gentry into the Russian noble class. As a result of this policy, by the end of the 19th century there were approximately seventy thousand of Moslem hereditary and service noblemen, which amounted to up to five percent of the total number of gentry. This is an Access course curently provided by the
College of West Anglia in Kings Lynn, UK to get into
medicine.
This college has links with some of the top
universities in the UK for studying medicine including
Cambridge/Oxford/StAndrews/Aberdeen/Manchester/Bristol/Durham
and Edinburgh to mention a few.
If anyone wants to get into the medical field and is
having difficulty, you can apply to this school and
inshallah get into a good medical university in the
UK.
Foreign students of course have to pay fees, but Uk
students are fortunate thus far.

THE SECRET POWER OF THE BASMALA
Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim
All power is from Allah Almighty and we must always
ask for His support, because we are in need, we are
weak ones.
Allah Almighty ordered His Beloved Prophet Sayyidina
Muhammad - sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam - to inform his
Umma that anything that is not begun with His Holy
Name: Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim, will never be
supported by Allah; it means it will never give fruit,
and it must fail...
If you say Allah's Holy Name, you will take benefit
from that action, and any harm, that may be in it will
leave you. Whoever is feellng weak should say it, and
power will come to his physical body and to his heart.
The Basmala is the most important key for opening all
treasures in the Heavens and on earth, and for opening
all forms of knowledge. Allah Almighty has put three
thousand of His Holy Names in it: 1000 Names that are
known only to the Angels, 1000 Names known by the
Prophets, 999 Names contained in the 4 Holy Books, and
His Greatest Name. All of these
Names are contained in the Basmala...
Whoever is able to reach to the secret power of the
Basmala should be dressed in miraculous powers. We, as
servants of Allah, should say it at least 100 times
daily. If a person continues for 40 days, he should
find some power, some changes in himself, especially
if he says it one thousand times between Fajr and
sunrise... From unseen worlds, from
Malakut beautiful views will appear to him. According
to the thickness of the veils of his heart, from 1 x
40 days, up to 7 x 40 days, there should
be an opening...
If not, it means that his heart is too occupied with
Dunya. and he should try to put Dunya last, and then
try again. It is a rule which can't be wrong. Even in
one day it may be opened, because it is so powerful..
Every time you say: Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim, it
means that you are remembering the Lord: O My Lord, I
am remembering You! And then
Allah says: O My servant, I am remembering you!
Don't forget! If you forget, you will be forgotten!

Hadith, or the Sayings of Muhammed (peace and
blessings upon him)
The messenger of God said to me (Anas), 'Son, if you
are able, keep your heart from morning till night and
from night till morning free from malice towards
anyone.'
The best of God's servants are those who, when seen,
remind one of God; and the worst of God's servants are
those who carry tales about to do mischief and
separate friends, and seek for the defects of the
good.
It is unworthy of a believer to injure people's
reputations; and it is unworthy to curse any one; and
it is unworthy to abuse any one; and it is unworthy of
a believer to talk arrogantly.
Assist your brother Muslim, whether he be an oppressor
or an oppressed. 'But how shall we do it when he is an
oppressor?' Muhammad said, 'Assisting an oppressor is
by forbidding and withholding him from oppression.
God is gentle and loves gentleness.
Faith is a restraint against all violence, let no
believer commit violence
What actions are most excellent? To gladden the heart
of a human being, to feed the hungry, to help the
afflicted, to lighten the sorrow of the sorrowful, and
to remove the wrongs of the injured.
The best of people is one from whom good accrues to
humanity.
Someone said to the Prophet, 'Pray to God against the
idolators and curse them.' The Prophet replied, 'I
have been sent to show mercy and have not been sent to
curse.
Anyone who kills a sparrow for nothing, it will cry
aloud to God on the day of resurrection, saying, 'O My
Lord! such and such a man killed me for nothing, he
never killed me for any good.'
We were on a journey with the Prophet when we saw a
finch with two young ones. We took away the two young
ones and the mother bird fluttered around. Then the
Prophet came and said, 'Who has distressed her by
taking away her young ones? Return her young ones to
her.' The Prophet also saw the abode of ants which we
had burnt, and said, 'Who has burnt this?' We said,
'We (have done this).' The Prophet said, 'It is not
proper that any one should punish another by fire
unless it be the Lord of fire.'
Deal gently with the people, and be not harsh; cheer
them and condemn them not.
The warrior is one who battles with his own ego
(nafs) on the path of God.
After a major battle, defending the small community of
Islam against powerful enemies who sought to destroy
it, the Prophet said: We have returned from the
lesser holy war (jihad) to the greater holy war. When
asked what he meant by the greater war, the Prophet
replied, Struggle against the ego (nafs).
God has mercy upon those who are merciful to others.
Would you have me tell you about actions that are
better than fasting, prayer, and charity? Bring
goodness and high principles between people.
The strongest among you is the one who controls his
or her anger.
Oh God, bring peacefulness among us, bring unity into
our hearts; guide us to equilibrium, take us from
darkness to light.
Among the servants of Allah, those who are more
useful to the people are also those more loved by the
Divine.
Being an honorable Muslim means that people are safe
from your actions and words.
Read the Koran if it keeps you from doing ill, and if
you recite the Koran and are not prevented from
wrongdoing, then you are not truthful in reading the
Koran.
Be kind to people whether they deserve your kindness
or not. If your kindness reaches the deserving, good
for you; if your kindness reaches the undeserving,
take joy in your compassion.

A Glimpse at Islam Sufism in the Balkans

Introduction
The nearly six centuries of Ottoman rule over
southeastern Europe provided ample opportunity for the
spread of Islam.
Indeed, among the nations that now comprise the
Balkans Peninsula (Albania, Bosnia-Hercegovina,
Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Montenegro and
Serbia) the visible Muslim component to their
populations are readily evident.
Two of these nations, Albania and Bosnia-Hercegovina,
undoubtedly have Muslim majority populations. The
populations of Macedonia and Serbia (which includes
Kosova) are comprised of huge Muslim minorities. In
Croatia, Bulgaria, Montenegro and Greece there are
smaller percentages, but in the case of Bulgaria this
means more than 1 million!
The largest Muslim ethnic group present in the Balkans
is the Albanians, who number over 5 million. They are
concentrated in the central and southern areas of the
Peninsula and form the overwhelming majority of the
population in Albania, the Serbian occupied province
of Kosova and western Macedonia. There are small
groups of Albanians living in Bosnia, Montenegro and
Croatia who are mainly émigrés from the Tito era.
In regards to religion, though they are for the most
part followers of Islam (or the non-practicing
descendants of Muslims), Albanians have never found it
a force for ethnic unity. Significant portions of the
Albanian people still cling to either Catholic or
Orthodox Christianity, and among the Muslim population
there was further division between the Sunni majority
and the followers of the Shiah Bektashi (see below).
The next cultural element in the Muslim population of
the Balkan Peninsula are the Slavs. They number some
3.5 million and are the descendants of those of the
region who embraced Islam during the centuries of
Ottoman rule. Culturally and linguistically they are a
diverse group whose racial base and religious faith
form for the only common factor.
They form a plurality of the inhabitants of
Bosnia-Hercegovina (where they are known as Bonjaks),
a majority of the Serbian-occupied region of the
Sandzak of Novi Pazar, a significant minority in
Macedonia (where they are known as Torbei) and
Bulgaria (where they identify themselves as Pomaks).
Small pockets of Slav speaking Muslims (Pomaks) can
also be found in northern Greece and in Kosova
(Goranis).
The Turkish element of the Muslim population is but a
mere shadow of what it once was, say a hundred years
ago. In the past, Turks made up significant portions
of the populations of Macedonia, Thessaly, the Morea
and Bulgaria. At present, there are nearly one million
