Bismillah [IslamCity] The Qassem's ordeal

2009-04-30 Thread khalid amayreh
Abdul Sattar Qassem: They kept me in the company of criminals and murderers

By Khalid Amayreh

25 April, 2009

Just released from a PA lockup ostensibly in connection with his outspoken
criticisms of the Palestinian Authority, Abdul Sattar Qassem has accused his
incarcerators of mistreating and humiliating him.

They kept me in the company of criminals and murderers all these days.

Qassem was arrested by the Preventive Security Force (PSF) last week on what
seemed to be fabricated libel charges filed against him by two members of PA
security agencies.

Qassem, a former presidential candidate and Professor of Political Science at
al-Najah University in Nablus in the northern West Bank, said he believed his
detention was meant as a warning against criticizing the PA government and
security apparatus.

He described his ordeal as a self-defeating act for the PA, saying that he
would continue to call the spade a spade irrespective of intimidation from the
security agencies.

freedom of speech and expression is a paramount issue over which there can be
no compromise. Shielding this freedom from the forces of repression and
despotism is a collective responsibility. If we tolerate violations of our
human rights and civil liberties, then we will be jeopardizing our future as a
people.

Qassem strongly denied PA allegations that he had besmirched the image of
certain PFC members during a television interview.

I have been a victim of intimidation, assault and vandalism. I was always
careful to submit a complaint against the perpetrators. However, instead of
arresting the perpetrators and prosecuting them for their crimes, the PA
authorities decided to arrest me. Isn't that strange?

Qassem spoke defiantly, saying that he wouldn't be silenced.

This country is our country, this land is our land, Falastin (Palestine) is
our homeland, we have no other homeland, and we shall remain faithful to our
faith, values, history and the legacy of our forefathers.

PA political and security officials labeled Qassem's arrest criminal rather
than political. However, most observers in occupied Palestine are convinced
that the arrest of Qassem, a well-known political intellectual, was motivated
by a desire on PA part to punish and intimidate political opponents.

The PA continues to detain dozens of political activists and journalists on
suspicion of being associated or affiliated with the Hamas movement.

Last week the PA arrested journalist Mustafa Sabri from his home in the
northern West Bank town of Qalqilya.

The arrests coincide with the resumption in Cairo of the Hamas-Fatah dialogue.

Sources in Cairo reported that the main stumbling block impeding a national
reconciliation agreement lied in PA demands that Hamas recognize Israel and
abandon resistance to the Israeli occupation.

Hamas refuses to recognize Israel as a matter of religious ideology.

Even more than Lieberman, we should worry about Barak, warns Khaled Amayreh
from occupied Jerusalem

Defence Minister Ehud Barak is being courted by prime minister-designate
Benyamin Netanyahu to stay on in his new coalition government

--

Israeli prime minister-designate Benyamin Netanyahu and Labour Party leader
Ehud Barak have reached an understanding that would pave the way for the latter
to join the Likud-led government, expected to be sworn-in next week.

According to the agreement, Barak will remain defence minister and his party
will receive a number of other less important portfolios, including
agriculture, infrastructure, industry, trade and labour and one minister
without portfolio.

Politically, the understanding stipulates that Israel will formulate a
comprehensive plan for Middle East peace and cooperation, continue peace
negotiations with the Palestinians and commit itself to peace accords already
signed.

The agreement also speaks of acting against illegal Arab and Jewish building
in the West Bank which may suggest that the next government will step up the
virulent practice of demolishing Palestinian homes.

Israel has demolished as many as 20,000 Arab homes under a variety of pretexts
since it occupied the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip in 1967. The
Israeli government is also planning to destroy hundreds of homes in occupied
East Jerusalem in what one Palestinian leader has described as a decapitation
of Arab demographic presence in the city. The Palestinian Authority still
hopes to make Jerusalem the capital of a prospective Palestinian state.

Israeli commentators argue that the Likud- Labour understandings are too
generalised to give a clear picture as to the exact partnership between the two
parties. However, the constructive ambiguity should give both sides a feeling
that they got what they want.

Barak had said repeatedly that he wouldn't join a right- wing coalition.
However, in recent days, he apparently changed his mind despite stiff
opposition within his party to joining the Likud coalition, which observers
here already label the most right-wing government in Israel's history.

The understanding between Barak and Netanyahu is not final, as it must be
approved by the Labour Party general assembly which was due to meet to vote on
the deal.

A solid plurality, perhaps a majority, within Labour is firmly against joining
the Likud-led government for ideological reasons, and also because many
traditional Labourites see Barak's acceptance to play a second fiddle to
Netanyahu as an expression of cheap opportunism.

This, labour leaders calculate, would seriously harm Labour's image as a
progressive party and prospective alternative to right-wing demagogy. Barak
himself used to condemn Likud as representing swinish capitalism.

Ophir Pines-Paz is one of the most ardent opponents of Barak and any
partnership with the Likud. He says that Netanyahu will only use Barak and
whoever will join him from the Labour Party as a mere fig leaf to blur and
hide the true nature of the next government.

It is completely natural for Barak to want to join the Bibi-Lieberman
government, says Pines-Paz, the only MK who left Olmert's government after
Yisrael Beiteinu leader Avigdor Lieberman joined it. He doesn't have a problem
with their ideology. Perhaps you can remind me how many outposts Barak has
evacuated so far and how exactly he abided by the Talia Sasson on settlement
expansion, he said, referring to an official government report published on 8
March 2005.

The report, commissioned by former prime minister Ariel Sharon, was headed by
the former head of the State Prosecution Criminal Department, Talia Sasson.

On 23 March, Barak's opponents within the Labour Party accused him of trying
to turn Labour into Yisrael Beiteinu and of acting as if he got 50 seats in
the Knesset, rather than suffering an electoral defeat.

According to Haaretz, seven Labour lawmakers including Pines-Paz sent an
unprecedented letter to Netanyahu and his foreign minister, Avigdor Lieberman,
in which they declared that they won't be bound by the understandings reached
between Barak and the Likud leader.

This is the first time in the history of the Labour Party that the chairman
has set up a coalition negotiating team without a thorough and extensive
discussion within the party and without getting the approval of any of the
party's organs. It is a gross violation of the party's constitution.

The rebels also warned Netanyahu of the consequences of Barak's actions. You
should know that the negotiating team established by the Barak faction within
the Labour Party does not

Nurses Banned to Wear Scarf in Jinnah Hospital Karachi
  By Amna Gilani . Mar 8th, 2009

Nurses students have asserted their power and due to their stand, the callous
administration of Jinnah Hospital and hostels are under fire and exposed to the
public. News about bad attitude towards the female nursing staff at the Jinnah
hospital were circulating for quite a time but the volcano erupted as one male
doctor pulled down veil of one female nurse and ordered her to not to wear it
again in front of him.

Such complaints are rampant in the Jinnah hostels and both male doctors and
male nurses don't leave any chance to harass and tease the female nursing
staff. Even they have access to their hostels and with the help of guards they
often come into the corridors of the hostels. As the nursing girls of Karachi
Jinnah Hospital started their vehement protests against this high-handedness,
the administration tried to hush the matter and kept the girls imprisoned in
the hostel by force for two hours with the help of guards.

Hostel girls of Karachi hospital have also complained that the male doctors
don't accept male nurses with them and only work when the female nurse of their
choice is given to them and these doctor often fight among themselves for the
attractive young nurses. Now as the things have turned more bad and
administration banned the scarf, all the nursing staff is out in protest.

Needless to say, the Israeli army has been carrying out a horrible carnage in
Gaza, targeting mosques, private homes, public buildings, college buildings,
student dorms, drug stores, police stations, ministry buildings, factories,
businesses, shops, grocery stores as well as charities and orphanages.

As a result, thousands of innocent people have been either killed or maimed
while hundreds are still buried under rubbles. The sheer magnitude of this
colossal crime is yet to be fully assessed in light of the continuation of the
massacres and aerial bombings.

In short, Israel has been committing and is committing crimes against humanity

an imprisoned and nearly totally defenseless people.

Hence, your gesture of severing ties with this criminal state, which claims to

With brothers like these, who needs enemies?

Note: This piece was written before the latest Israeli massacres in Gaza

Commentary by Khalid Amayreh

December 28, 2008

There is more than just a whiff of hypocrisy in the way Arab states such as
Egypt and Saudi Arabia as well as the American-backed Palestinian Authority
(PA) are dealing with the continuing nightmare in the Gaza Strip.

A fleeting examination of recent statements by Egyptian and Saudi officials
indicate that the rulers of the two countries are effectively adopting the
Israeli stance on the Gaza plight.

For example, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit recently blamed Hamas
for the collapse of the Egyptian-mediated tacit ceasefire understanding in
Gaza, forgetting the obvious fact that it was Israel, not Hamas, that violated
the ceasefire when Israeli forces carried out a deadly foray in Gaza in mid
November, killing a number of Palestinian resistance fighters.

Abul Gheit has also been oblivious to the fact that throughout the duration of
the ceasefire (June 19-June19-2008), Israel kept up, even intensified, the
cruel blockade of the Gaza Strip, pushing desperate Gazans to the edge of
physical annihilation.

Egypt, too, we must not forget, knowingly or unknowingly assisted Israel by
making sure that the Rafah border crossing remained almost hermetically closed,
so that the estimated 1.5 million Gazans would suffer and die both at the
hands of Israeli Nazi Nazism and by brotherly Arab love and solidarity.

I can't really understand why Egypt, the largest and most powerful Arab state,
is behaving the way it is.

Egyptian officials present a number of confused and inconsistent arguments to
justify the scandalous stand of their government.

They claim that the continued closure of the Rafah crossing was serving
Palestinian national interests since opening the crossing would free Israel
from its responsibility as an occupying power.

This is a mendacious argument because all that Gazans want is to be able to buy
food and consumer products from Egypt for survival.

Occasionally, Egyptian officials defend their cruel treatment of Gazans seeking
to get back to Gaza or get out of it for medical treatment by invoking the
international agreement governing the operation of the border crossing.

According to that infamous agreement, the Rafah border-crossing can only be
opened with Israeli consent.

Well, a scandalous agreement as such is not worth maintaining in the first
place, since it gives Israel the right to besiege and strangle and starve
Gazans to death, very much like the Nazis did at Ghetto Warsaw.

I don't know if the Egyptian authorities are giving more weight to honoring a
brazenly shameful agreement than to the survival of 1.5 million Palestinians
who are being subjected to a slow-motion genocide because they dared elect a
government that Israel and the Bush administration didn't like.

Are agreements that effectively place the people of Gaza under the mercy of
Israeli whims, cruelty and blood lust worth maintaining? This is a question
that the leader of Egypt ought to answer faithfully and honestly.

Last year, Abul Gheit claimed that Egypt was keeping the Rafah crossing closed
based on a request to that effect by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

Well, but the Egyptian leadership should know better than just heeding
instructions from a leader that is willing to go to any extent in order to
appease the occupiers of his country and enemies of his people at the expense
of his suffering people and their enduring just cause.

Besides, Israel has been telling the world that it end its occupation of the
Gaza Strip more than three years ago. If so, why is Egypt so reluctant to tell
the Zionist regime and its American guardian-ally that Israel can't have it
both ways, keeping Gaza under tight Israeli control and at the same time claim
to have ended its occupation of the coastal enclave?

Otherwise, Egypt is allowing itself to be party to the Israeli designs to
annihilate the people of Gaza under the rubric of keeping the moribund peace
process a live.

More disturbing still is the silence with which Egyptian officials, including
Abul Gheit, met the insolent remarks made by visiting Israeli Foreign Minister
Tzipi Livni in Cairo on Thursday, 25 December.

Livni, the racist woman who earlier this month called for the expulsion of
Israeli non-Jewish citizens to a prospective Palestinian entity on the West
Bank, made a series of arrogant threats to destroy Hamas and end its rule in
the Gaza Strip.

Well, since when are such Judeo-Nazi leaders allowed to speak in this tone in
the capital of the largest Arab state, the home of al-Azhar, without any retort
by Egyptian leaders and spokesmen.?

Is Egypt completely impotent, sterile, dead?

And now to the ruling Saudi dynasty?

It is really shameful that while the rulers of the desert Kingdom

With fanfare, fireworks, military parades and a lot of rhetorical

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) is not what it used
to be. Today the organization which sired Laila Khalid, George Habash and many
other luminaries in the skies of the Palestinian struggle for freedom and
justice is functioning very much like a hanger-on vis-à-vis the American

The continuing affinity between de-facto PFLP leader Abdel Rahim Mallouh and
his namesake, the Chairman of the PA and Fatah Chief Mahmoud Abbas seems to
suggest that the leftist group is effectively abandoning its erstwhile
principles. What is even more shocking is that the scandalous misdeeds of the
Ramallah regime is having little bearing if any on the marriage of convenience
between the PFLP and the PA leadership.

Not too long ago, the PFLP didn't hesitate to physically eliminate any
Palestinian figure that would cross the red lines with regard to dealing
with the colonialist Israeli occupiers. The assassination by a PFLP cadre
more than two decades ago of the Israeli-appointed by PLO-accepted former

The Joke of Palestinian democracy under Fatah, Israel

Comment by Khalid Amayreh in occupied Palestine

19 September, 2008

Jockeying for an advantageous public posture vis-à-vis Hamas, the Fatah
movement has been calling for the organization of presidential and
parliamentary elections in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The proposal is being touted as the only way to resolve the enduring crisis
between Fatah and Hamas, following the latter's counter-coup in Gaza in June of
last year.

The proposal, however, seems to be more of a propagandist gambit than a
sincere effort aimed at achieving inter-Palestinian reconciliation.

And it doesn't suggest that Fatah, now solidly backed and financed by the
United States, has undergone a true democratic transformation.

Indeed, Fatah today remains the same Fatah that only reluctantly and under
American pressure agreed to allow general elections to take place in 2006- and
only because Fatah leaders seemed then certain they would win.

As I write these words, two boats with some 46 peace activists from
many nationalities onboard are sailing from Cyprus to the Gaza Strip in a
symbolic effort to break Israel's cruel blockade of the coastal Palestinian
territory.

The Free Gaza Movement, the organizer of the bold mission, includes
people from various religious and cultural backgrounds who are united in their
dedication to the cause of freedom for the estimated 1.5 million Gazans,
thoroughly tormented by a nearly hermetic blockade that has effectively

Among the people taking part in this brave endeavor are an 81-year-old

Hundreds of Gaza children and other civilians have died due to the acute
shortage of medicine and food resulting from the year-long siege.

Israel, which is obviously embarrassed by the publicity surrounding the
humanitarian mission, has threatened to violently prevent the two boats from
reaching Gaza.

Some Israeli officials have even hinted at the possibility of using
violence against the two boats.

Israel has not stopped telling the world that it no longer occupies
Gaza. However, this claim is obviously a scandalous lie since the Israeli
occupation continues to exercise tight control over the Gaza Strip's sea, air
and border crossings.

There is no doubt that the continuation of the Gaza siege is a stigma of
shame on the conscience of humanity as a whole.

It is a stigma of shame upon the United States which shamelessly
conspires with Israel to savage and torment these innocent Palestinians whose
only crime is their audacity to elect a government that rulers of Tel Aviv
and Washington don't like.

It is also a stigma of shame upon the states of Europe who are watching
passively a predator state gang up on helpless civilians very much like the
Nazi Third Reich did nearly seven decades ago.

But the greatest shame falls upon Arab countries, especially Egypt, which
is effectively complementing the Israeli siege of the shut-in Gazans by
refusing to open the Rafah border crossing to allow them to buy food and
medicine as well as travel abroad.

I really can't understand how we, Arabs and Muslims, can blame Israel,
a cruel and criminal state that would like to see Palestinians wiped off from
the face of earth, while a so-called brotherly Arab country is closing the
borders in the face of thousands of desperate Palestinians seeking urgently
needed health care.

Indeed, I want to ask the Egyptian leadership how many Palestinians must
die before Egypt will listen to the helpless cries of the starving and dying
Gazans?. Shame on you.

  We salute you

To these brave men and women onboard SS Liberty and Free Gaza, I
would like to say the following.

I salute you for your courage, humanness and self-abnegation. You
undoubtedly represent a point of light in a world overwhelmed by darkness.
Your selfless efforts on behalf of the oppressed men, women and children of
Gaza show that there are still brave men and women in this world who wouldn't
give in to brut power.

I salute that elderly nun, Anne Montgomery, of the religious Order of
the Sacred Heart, for her brave determination to take part in this challenging
and dangerous mission, despite her old age.

I salute broadcaster and journalist Lauren Booth for demonstrating
that journalism is not a morally neutral job and that true journalists must
also be true human beings who should take a pro-active stance for justice.

I salute Jeff Halper the Professor of Anthropology and Coordinator of
the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICHAD) who by taking part in
this sublime endeavor is making an important statement, namely that there are
Jews in this world who don't support Israel's Nazi-like repression of the
Palestinian people and that starving and savaging innocent civilians for
political reasons is incompatible with true Jewish morality.

I salute Greek MP Tasos Kourakis who has voiced a determination to break
the wall of silence surrounding Gaza by exposing the scandalous siege of a
people Israel is trying to crush for wanting to be free.

I salute Dr. Paul Larudee, a co-founder of the Free Gaza mission for his
fearless, unflinching determination to carry out this daunting task despite all
the threats and intimidation coming from Israel.

  I salute Yvonne

Bismillah [IslamCity] Reflections on the Israel-Hezbullah Prisoner swap deal

Reflections on the Israel-Hezbullah Prisoner swap deal
  [ 17/07/2008 - 12:46 AM ]

  By Khalid Amayreh

The latest prisoner swap deal between Israel and Hezbullah is a healthy
indicator that at least some Arabs are beginning to understand the depraved
Zionist mentality, and act accordingly. Such mentality is based on arrogance,
insolence, and religious and ethnic superiority.

Israel, a country whose collective mindset views non-Jews as virtual
animals or at least lesser human beings, had to face a new enemy, an enemy that
will not be scared by overwhelming brutality, but one that will meet Israel's
state terror with toughness, resilience, valor and defiance.

This is a new reality that Israelis, especially Israeli leaders, have yet
to come to terms with, especially psychologically.

This explains the deep frustration that is apparent in the tone of
Israeli leaders reacting to the latest swap deal, especially the fact that
Israel has been forced to release the Lebanese guerilla Samir Kuntar.

Israel, utterly ignoring her own countless murderous sins, has come to
view Kuntar as the prototype of the ultimate terrorist as if the tens of
thousands of Jewish murderers and terrorists who have enormous amount of
innocent blood on their hands were the Lord's angels of love and mercy.

Indeed, if Israel were a normal state, and its people a normal people,
it would have adopted an honest and just approach toward its neighbors, an
approach that would not discriminate between blood and blood and life and
life.

Undoubtedly, such an approach would have saved thousands of lives, Jewish
and Arab, and spared the region and its peoples decades of pain and suffering.

But then Zionism would be losing its face, mind and heart, and would
morph into something entirely different.

Unfortunately, it is probably futile to preach morality to Zionism, a
manifestly demonic movement which experience shows is not capable of behaving
morally and humanely.

Well, let us examine some of the statements and remarks Zionist leaders
have been making with regard to the latest swap deal with Hezbullah.

Shimon Peres, the hero of the Qana massacre of 1996, who is now Israel's
President, has been quoted as saying that We don't want murderers to go free,
but we have a moral obligation to bring home soldiers whom we sent to defend
their country.

Peres also reportedly said that my heart is torn over the decision to
pardon Kuntar, adding that his decision to that effect in no way constituted
forgiveness.

Certainly, no one , Arab or otherwise, is particularly infatuated with
what Kuntar did in 1979, although the Israeli army then was at least partially
responsible for the killing by the Lebanese guerilla of three Israelis,
including a paramilitary policeman, a man and his daughter.

The three lives, like numerous other victims, Arab and Jewish, would have
been spared had the insolent Israeli military establishment behaved wisely.

After all, Kuntar, and his friends who were killed in that rescue
operation, didn't come to Israel to kill and shed blood but to force Israel to
release Arab prisoners.

Non the less, one is prompted to ask difficult questions, questions that
most Israelis don't like to hear let alone answer, but when confronted with,
they either seek to evade or prevaricate and quibble in their answers.

Who has killed more innocent people, Shimon Peres or Samir Kuntar? Who
has more blood, including children blood, on his hands, Shimon Peres or Samir
Kuntar? Who has inflicted more terror, suffering and death upon innocent
people, Shimon Peres or Samir Kuntar?

If honesty is to be the ultimate arbiter among men, then one can't
escape the inescapable conclusion that it is mass murderers like Peres, Ariel
Sharon and other Israeli leaders, dead or living, who really need forgiveness
for their horrible crimes against humanity.

In fact, Israelis should be reminded on this occasion that a Presidential
post, a business suit with neck tie, and the ability to speak eloquent
sound-bites in several languages and have audience with statesmen and VIPs
from around the world, don't really transform a criminal into a true human
being.

A criminal is a criminal especially if he refuses to come to terms with
his crimes and if he refuses to apologize to his victims. Needless to say,
Peres has done neither.

But then criminals are not concerned about their sins.

One elderly Israeli woman interviewed by the Ha'aretz newspaper lashed
out at Hezbullah for having refused until the very last moment to tell if the
two Israeli prisoners were dead or alive.

It's the saddest day for Israel. They kept us waiting until the last
second to learn the fate of our sons, the woman was quoted as saying.

Jewish Klansmen tie Palestinian to power pole, beat him savagely
  [ 06/07/2008 - 10:27 PM ]

  Midhat Abu Karsh

From Khalid Amayreh in el-Sammou, Hebron

Even in his wildest dreams, Midhat Radwan Abu Karsh never imagined that
one day he would be tied up to a power pole and savagely beaten by bigoted
Jewish settlers who believe that non-Jews are animals in a human shape.

Yet, this is exactly what happened to him earlier this week when four
Jewish terrorists ganged up on the 31-year-old Palestinian teacher as he was
hiking in his land, awaiting Israeli peace activists whom he wanted to brief
on the daily acts of vandalism, harassment and land theft at the hands of
fanatical Jewish settlers, protected by the army and backed by powerful
political parties.

Abu Karsh accuses the settlers of being hell-bent on driving
Palestinians away in order to take over their land.

As I was standing in my land, suddenly four settlers descended from the
settlement of Asnael, and started cursing and beating me with clubs. As you
know, I am physically handicapped and couldn't escape because of my leg, Abu
Karsh told reporters on Sunday at his home in the small town of El-Sammou, 35
kilometers south west of Hebron.

Then they dragged me along the thorny terrain, causing me indescribable
pain, until we reached the power pole just out of the settlement. There they
tied me up rather tightly to the pole and began beating me with the clubs all
over my body, including my head. What kind of people would do this to a
handicapped person who can't defend himself?

When they tightened the robe around my neck, I thought I was going to
die.

The attempted lynching and beating continued unabated even after an
Israeli army jeep, carrying three soldiers, arrived at the scene.

Initially, I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw the soldiers
coming. I though they would rescue me instantly and arrest or at least stop
the settlers. However, to my disappointment, the settlers kept up beating me,
causing a lot of bleeding in my head and face while the soldiers kept looking
on.

Abu Karsh said the soldiers begged the settlers to stop it, but to no
avail.

Would you believe it, soldiers begging the settlers to stop beating a
handicapped Palestinian? Just imagine how Jews and non-Jews would react if
criminals, say in France, attacked a Jew who is physically or mentally
handicapped, say in Paris or Leon?

At one point, the settlers warned the soldiers to keep away, or else they
would attack the soldiers. Israeli soldiers serving in the occupied West Bank
have strict orders barring them from responding to settler violence in any
active manner.

When the soldiers, who had backed off a few meters, started calling their
superiors to notify them of what was going on, the settlers carried out a
last round of beating, kicking Abu Karsh in his underbelly and genitals.

  He said he nearly fainted.

Forty minutes later, an Israeli police jeep showed up, with one policeman
reportedly telling the settlers to bring a bucket of water from the settlement
and pour it right on the victim's head, ostensibly in order to wash away the
blood before the arrival of journalists and photographers.

Even at this point, I was still tied to the power pole and the police
wouldn't untie me. And, of course, they didn't arrest any of the settlers, Abu
Karsh said.

Eventually, an Israeli ambulance transferred Abu Karsh to a Palestinian
Red Crescent ambulance which took him to the main hospital in Hebron.

Abu Karsh accused the settlers of deliberately starting a fire in the
area and blaming it on him.

The incident, the second of its kind in less than a month, was witnessed
by Israeli peace activists from the Ta'ayosh (co-existence) group.

One of the activists was quoted by the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz as
saying that he saw the settlers kick the victim while he was bound up.

When we arrived at the scene there were already lots of the army's
troops. I saw a settler approach him and kick him, as he was tied to the pole.
His whole body was bound up, I saw they bandaged a head wound and he was half
conscious.

Last month, masked, stick-wielding Jewish settler terrorists attacked
with clubs elderly Palestinian peasants near the West Bank town of Yatta.

The brutal attack was filmed on video by a Palestinian woman, which
embarrassed the Israeli government which refuses to take any meaningful action
against settlers who attack Palestinian villagers.

The wide dissemination of the video also prompted Jewish settler leaders
in the Hebron region to warn settler terrorists to make sure that their
anti-Palestinian activities are not being filmed or photographed.

B'Tselem provided about 100 cameras to Palestinians who bear the brunt of
settler terror

  Fatah's Fifth Column
  [ 29/06/2008 - 11:53 PM ]

  By Khalid Amayreh

While the vast majority of Palestinians have welcomed the
Egyptian-mediated ceasefire between the Hamas movement and Israel, the
American-backed fifth column within Fatah is viewing the tahdiaa or brief
calm in the Gaza Strip as an existential threat to its very survival.

Since the conclusion of the fragile ceasefire nearly ten
days ago, these rouge elements have spared no effort trying to thwart the truce
by firing primitive projectiles across the border. They also have been accusing
Hamas of betraying the resistance and undermining the vital interests of the
Palestinian people.

Of course, the purported concern for the resistance is
plainly insincere and disingenuous. It is an exposed and cheap distraction
aimed at blurring the real purpose of these thugs, namely to provoke Israel
to revoke the ceasefire and carry out an all-out invasion of Gaza to destroy
Hamas and hand over the coastal territory to Israel's and America's agents.

Isn't exactly this goal that these Fatah leaders have
been intimating to western news agencies and Israeli correspondents, always on
condition of anonymity.

We all know and the bulk of Palestinians know that these
mercenaries are first and foremost answerable to US General Keith Dayton, who
effectively serves as American High Commissioner in Ramallah, and is himself
answerable to Elliot Abram, who is more or less AIPAC's representative in the
Bush administration.

Abrams has always worked strenuously toward igniting the
flames of civil war between the western-backed moderates and the extremist
elements led by Hamas. He had actually made several public statements to that
effect, but the self-absorbed regime in Ramallah wouldn't pay attention to
that, preferring to believe that Abrams was only making jokes.

The Bush administration's goal was from the very inception ,
and probably still i to push the Palestinian society toward a sort of
violent and bloody implosion that would eventually allow Israel and the neocons
in Washington to liquidate the Palestinian cause, once and for all.

This is exactly what Abrams had in mind last summer when he
okayed the transfer of huge sums of money and shipments of arms to America's
man in Gaza, Muhammed Dhalan.

We all know the rest of the story as Hamas moved swiftly and
decisively to pre-empt Abrams' criminal designs by putting an end to Dahlan's
coup-in-the-making and ousting his men and cohorts from Gaza.

Defeated, embittered and expelled, these people have never
stopped hatching plots to sow the seeds of civil war and violence in the Gaza
Strip.

They tried every conceivable conspiracy to beat Hamas,
effectively on Israel's behalf, even as the Israeli occupation army was
murdering Palestinian civilians in droves.

At one point the Fifth Column in Fatah seemed fully embedded
with Israel in the common battle against Hamas. Their collusion with Israel
and the US in maintaining the harsh blockade on Gaza's 1.5 million inhabitants
speaks volumes. It constitutes a stigma of shame on the foreheads of the
traitors and their supporters that will stay with them for the rest of their
lives.

Having failed to dislodge Hamas, these traitors are now
trying to sabotage the ceasefire in Gaza under the rubric of resistance. This
happens as tens of thousands of Fatah forces are working in close
coordination with the Israeli occupation army to hound and eradicate real
freedom fighters, including Fatah's own, in the West Bank. Obviously, this is
done on Israel's behalf and in order to obtain a certificate of good conduct
from the likes of Bush, Rice, Dayton and Abrams.

I realize that Fatah is not a monolithic movement. I also
know for sure that the movement includes many dignified and patriotic elements
that reject the shameful behavior of certain elements within the group that
claim to be speaking and acting in the name of Fatah when they are
effectively at Israel's and the CIA's beck and call.

Unfortunately, these rouge elements have the money (American
dollars) and the wherewithal not only to corrode Fatah from within but also to
destabilize the internal Palestinian front, all in the service of Israel and
her diabolical designs against our people and enduring just cause.

Hence, it is imperative that true patriots within Fatah move
swiftly and decisively to undercut these fifth-columnists and prevent them from
morphing

  Hamas's wise step
  [ 20/06/2008 - 12:35 AM ]

Palestinian children play on the beach in Deir al-Balah in the central
Gaza Strip

By Khalid Amayreh in the West Bank

The Egyptian-mediated ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Islamic
Resistance Movement (Hamas) is, ostensibly at least, a wise, dignified and
expedient step for several reasons.

To begin with, the ceasefire deal would suspend the daily acts of murder
and terror carried out by the Israeli occupation forces against the nearly
totally unprotected people of the Gaza Strip.

For years, the Gestapo-like Israeli army used excessive force, including
tanks, warplanes, heavy artillery and other lethal machines of death to wreak
death, havoc and terror on the civilian population of Gaza, resulting in the
murder and maiming of thousands of innocent people.

Thus, the latest arrangement would give the thoroughly tormented Gazans
a certain respite, however uncertain, from Israeli terror and criminality.

Moreover, the arrangement, which is due to go into effect Thursday
morning, is also supposed to lead to the gradual lifting of the 18-month-old
harsh and callous blockade Israel has been imposing on 1.5 million Palestinians
 of the Gaza Strip.

This alone should be viewed as a worthy achievement if only because Gaza
was being decimated by a genocidal siege unprecedented since the Nazi blockade
of Ghetto Warsaw in 1943.

It is therefore hoped that the gradual dissipation of the nefarious
blockade, which really reflects the brutal ugliness of the Zionist mentality,
will allow Gaza to revive and rehabilitate itself and bring a smile back on
the faces of its tormented children and savaged men and women.

Needless to say, the decision by Hamas to accept the ceasefire is a
strong proof that Hamas is not a nihilistic organization, e.g. like al Qaeda,
as Israeli and Zionist hasbara has been trying to portray the
Palestinian-Islamic movement.

In fact, Hamas had always called for a cessation of violence in Gaza
whereby both sides would refrain from targeting innocent civilians. However,
it was always Israel, not Hamas, that rejected such calls by keeping up
murderous attacks on Palestinian civilians.

Israel, especially when addressing western audiences, repeatedly but
mendaciously claimed that its army didn't deliberately target innocent
Palestinians civilians.

However, that fact that hundreds of Palestinian children and other
civilians continued to be killed and maimed throughout the Gaza Strip, and else
where, eviscerated the Israeli pretensions of innocence of any veracity and
credibility. In the final analysis, Israel was not only a brutal murderer, but
a big a liar as well.

After all, killing knowingly is killing deliberately, and when the number
of innocent victims is so high, even intent becomes irrelevant.

There is no doubt that Hamas's heroic steadfastness, resilience and
patience are being vindicated.

Thus, the enduring vigor of Hamas and the people of Gaza, who defied
death and clang to life, should serve as a lesson for the Palestinian people
that steadfastness in the face of brute power eventually pays off.

This is also a lesson for the Fatah-dominated Palestinian Authority (PA)
that the stubbornness of justice can eventually triumph over the arrogance of
oppression.

  Winners and losers

There is no doubt that the forces of peace and reason on all sides have
won against the forces of bellicosity, hatred and terror, especially in
Washington and Tel Aviv and some other regional capitals as well.

The people of Gaza, the victims of American-Israeli criminality, are
undoubtedly the biggest winners of this deal. At least, they can breathe again,
following 18 nightmarish months of unimagined brutality and ruthlessness.

In addition to the gung-ho neocons in Washington and war-drummers in Tel
Aviv who wanted to exterminate Hamas, not a small amount of consternation is
also likely to be permeating now in Ramallah where a Zionized group within
Fatah had been hoping to see the Israeli army overrun Gaza, murder hundreds,
and then hand Gaza over to the Fatah leadership on a silver platter.

On this occasion, one feels prompted to call on Fatah to eject these
traitors from their midst for the sake of Fatah itself and for the sake of
Palestine.

  Vigilance

Non the less, it would be naïve, even stupid, to be carried away or give
Israel the benefit of the doubt by thinking that the Zionist regime is going to
abide by the agreement and terminate its murderous aggressions on our people.

Israel, after all, has repeatedly proven itself to be a venomous snake
which must never be trusted.

Hence, Palestinians, especially Hamas, ought to be constantly vigilant
and ready to repulse any Israeli aggression

Sheikh bans alcohol at Cairo hotel
By Magdi Abdelhadi - BBC News, Cairo

A decision by the Saudi owner of the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Cairo to ban the
sale of alcohol and destroy millions of dollars worth of beverages has sparked
a debate in Egypt.

The international company which runs the hotel has urged Sheikh Abdulaziz
al-Brahim - a relative of the Saudi king - to revoke his decision, fearing it
could drive away Western tourists and may even lead to the hotel losing its
five-star rating.

The Grand Hyatt occupies one of the most expensive sites overlooking the
River Nile. It is only minutes from the diplomatic quarter, where the British
and American embassies are located.

Like all five-star hotels in Egypt, alcohol used to be available there - but
not any more. It is unclear what prompted the owner Sheik Al Brahim to take
this controversial measure.

Staff at the hotel are reluctant to talk about the whole affair. But a barman
told me that they now only serve soft drinks and that he saw with his own eyes
how expensive whiskey, liqueurs and fine wines were emptied down the drains of
the hotel.

He said it took his colleagues a whole day to go through the hotel's entire
stock of alcoholic drinks. Does he feel sorry for that, I asked? He chuckled.

  Financial muscle

The move has sparked fears that other hotels may follow suit, which could hit
the tourism industry, one of the pillars of the Egyptian economy.

Egyptian columnist Suleiman Gouda wrote that if the owner wanted to invest in
the international tourism industry, then he had to play by the well-known rules
of the business.

Alternatively, he wrote, quoting an unnamed Arab head of state, he should
sell his hotels to those who are prepared to do so.

Supporters of the decision say Egypt is a Muslim country and foreign visitors
should respect local custom.

But critics say just as Muslims expect to be served Halal food on
international flights, they should be prepared to respect the desires of their
Western guests.

And Egyptian liberals see the incident as a clear example of how Saudi Arabia
uses its financial muscle to spread its own puritanical brand of Islam to other
countries.

Egyptian author Ezzat Al Qamhawy wrote that the incident was only an example
of what Saudi investment in Egypt can do.

It can strangulate the Egyptian tourism industry... by imposing Islam on
tourists who are not Muslims, and compulsory drunkenness on the Muslim fish of
the River Nile, he wrote, referring to reports that the stock was emptied in
the river when the owner ordered staff to get rid of it.

The question of alcohol is a sensitive one in this predominantly conservative
Muslim society.

The vast majority of Egyptians do not drink, and their government cannot be
seen to pressure the owner of the Grand Hyatt for fear of giving the Islamist
opposition ammunition to attack it for being un-Islamic.

Yet at the same time it is wary of anything that can hurt tourism, which
brings hundreds of millions of dollars every year.

2008-06-04 Thread Khalid Amayreh
there is no comparison between Islam and any other type of government. Islam
gives non-Muslims more or less equal rights as citizens.

Islam supersedes and overrides democracy. Islam has a moral ceiling, democracy
has none.

Indeed, more crimes have been committed in the name of democracy than in the
name of any other name.

America, in the name of democracy, invaded, occupied and destroyed two
sovereign nations and killed or caused the death more than a million people.

America itself killed more than seven million native Americans and called the
genocide manifest destiny.

So, Yes, Islam should always come first. And I am speaking of an authentic,
enlightened, and equitable Islam.

for Indian Muslims

Maulana Maududi's Terrifying Vision for Indian Muslims
  By Mohammed Ayub Khan

Maulana Maududi's estranged disciple and Tanzeem-e-Islami chief Dr.Israr
Ahmed appearing on the Jawabdeh program of GEO television in 2005 made some
startling remarks about Indian Muslims. According to a published report of the
program in the liberal Daily Times he reportedly said the following:

In an Islamic state non-Muslims would be second-class citizens. He said if
India decided after that to declare all Muslims second-class citizens then that
would be right too. He said Muslims had fought in India on the claim that they
were a different nation. There was no harm if India considered its Muslims a
separate nation.[1]

Dr.Israr Ahmed's lack of concern for the protection of the rights of India 's
Muslims is hardly surprising when looked through the prism of the views of his
mentor Maulana Abul Ala Maudoodi. Both were comfortable with a possible
political scenario in India where the nation's Muslims were reduced to second
class citizens.

In the often cited Munir Comission report Maulana Maududi emphatically said
in reply to a query that he will have no problem if Indian Muslims were treated
on par with the Malechas or untouchables. He was asked the question, If we
have this form of Islamic government in Pakistan , will you permit the Hindus
to base their constitution on the basis of their religion? He reportedly
replied, I should have no objection even if the Muslims of India are treated
in that form of Government as shudras and malishes and Manu's laws are applied
to them, depriving them of all share in the Government and the rights of a
citizen. In fact, such a state of affairs already exists in India .[2]

But the venerable Maulana later on denied making such a statement. In a
letter to Dr.Nejatullah Siddiqi, he wrote:

There is a fair amount of distortion in things attributed to me in Munir
Report. Actually, I did not say that Manu's Dharma Shastra be introduced in
India , and that I would concur with the treatment of Muslims as Mleccas and
Shudras. In fact these were [Justice Muhammad] Munir Sahib's own remarks which
he attributed to me. His question was: If you want an Islamic government,
would you then agree if a Hindu government is formed in India , where Manu's
Dharma Shastra would be introduced. What I had told him [Justice Munir] was
that it is up to Hindus to decide what theyu wanted to do and what they did not
want to do. They will not ask us what form of system they would establish. Our
task is to work according to our belief and faith wherever we have the option.
As to India , there the Hindus will do whatever they want to whether we agree
with them or not.

Despite the denial there are at least two other instances where the Maulana
made known his contempt for Indian Muslims. A booklet titled Jamaat-e-Islami
Ki Dawat contains a speech made by Maulana Maududi on May 10, 1947. In it he
says:

It appears now certain that the country will be partitioned. One portion of
India will be given to the Muslim majority and the other will be controlled by
the non-Muslims. In the first part ( Pakistan ) we shall mobilize public
opinion to base Pakistan 's constitution on the Islamic laws. In the other part

Finkelstein and Me

Seeking to punish critics for communicating the truth about Israel to the
world, Israel has barred an American scholar from entering the country and a
Palestinian journalist from leaving the occupied territories for a brief trip
to Germany.

Israel's chief domestic intelligence agency, the Shin Bet, as it is known by
its Hebrew acronym, has detained and deported Professor Norman Finkelstein, a
prominent American Jewish historian and intellectual.

Finkelstein is a well-known critic of the apartheid Israeli state, especially
its 41-year-old Nazi-like occupation of East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the
Gaza Strip.

He is also the author of a famous book entitled The Holocaust Industry, in
which he accused Israel and allied Zionist circles of using the memory of
Holocaust victims for political ends.

Finkelstein arrived at the Ben Gurion Airport Friday, 23 May, for a visit to
friends in the city of Hebron, where nearly 200,000 Palestinian citizens are
effectively held hostage to the whims and moods of a few hundred fanatical
Jewish settlers who believe that non-Jews in Israel/Palestine ought to be
treated as water carriers and wood hewers, or expelled and/or exterminated.

However, upon his arrival at the airport, the 55-year-old professor was
unceremoniously whisked away to a nearby Shin Bet office where he was
interrogated for several hours on his views.

Shortly before he was put on a plane back to Amsterdam, his point of departure,
the Jewish historian was told that he wouldn't be able to visit Israel for ten
years.

Finkelstein is the son of survivors of the Warsaw Ghetto and concentration
camps. He wrote in his book, I do care about the memory of my family's
persecution. The current campaign of the Holocaust industry to extort money
from Europe in the name of the needy Holocaust victims has shrunk the moral
stature of their martyrdom to that of a Montecarlo casino.

Predictably the powerful Zionist establishment, both in Israel and North
America, couldn't tolerate his daring and meticulously documented criticisms.
In 2007, he was forced to leave DePaul University following a virulent
vilification campaign from powerful Zionist organizations, including the
contribution of Professor Alan Dershowitz, the stalwart supporter of apartheid
in Israel.

And now my story: A few weeks ago, I received an invitation from the German
Institute for External Relations to attend a conference on how journalists
ought to reconcile patriotism with journalistic professionalism in wartime. I
went to the German representative office in Ramallah where I was interviewed on
my political orientation and whether I had any association with organizations
the German government considers terrorist.

I have always been and continue to be an independent-minded journalist. I never
belonged to or was a member of any political organization or party. True, like
everyone else, I do hold certain views with regard to the Israeli occupation of
my country and oppression of my people. But so what? After all, no honest
person under the sun would or should expect us to love our tormentors. Do Jews
love their tormentors?

I have made laborious efforts and knocked on many doors to obtain a permit that
would enable me to travel abroad for the two-day conference. Interestingly, I
have not been allowed to travel abroad for 13 years, apart from a brief trip
Mecca and Medina with my late mother for the Haj pilgrimage in 1997.

Last week, I went to the local District Coordination Office (DCO) in Dura, my
town, hoping that they would be able to help. The office forwarded my personal
details to the Shin Bet office in Hebron. However, the next day, I was told
rather tersely that I was barred from traveling for security reasons. No
further details were given.

In the process, I discovered the painful truth that the Palestinian Authority
DCO officials were no more than insignificant middlemen between the Israeli
occupation authorities and Palestinian citizens. They had absolutely no
authority or influence, which generally epitomizes the overall status of the
entire PA vis-à-vis Israel.

Last week, I was advised to go to the Israeli army Civil Administration
Headquarters in Hebron in an effort to obtain a security clearance or at least
explain my case to officials there.

There I saw dozens of Palestinian permit-seekers stuffed like farm animals in a
metal pen, waiting to be allowed admittance. I was told that some people there
had been waiting their turn for ten hours. Some of the people urgently needed a
travel permit for medical purposes such as undergoing an urgent surgical
operation at an East Jerusalem hospital.

I calculated that even if I had to experience the humiliation of languishing

Washington's Pathological Liar
By Khalid Amayreh . May 20th, 2008
George W. Bush is well known for his low intellectuality and clarion ignorance
of the world. To mask these serious flaws and shortcomings, he routinely adopts
a discourse based on mendacity and dishonesty.

And while it is premature to pass a final judgment on the man, it is probably
safe to conclude by now that he has already brought an irremediable disaster
upon the United States and the rest of the world.

A few years ago, the ruthless ignoramus of the White House invaded, occupied
and destroyed two sovereign countries, and killed or caused the death of over a
million innocent people, all under the flimsy pretexts of fighting terror.

Bush even had the temerity to claim that God told me to do it.

Last week, human decency was once again affronted by Bush's diatribe at the
Israeli parliament, the Knesset. There he bestowed all the epithets of glory
upon a state that practices mass murder, ethnic cleansing and land theft, a
state whose very existence was, is and will always be a colossal crime against
humanity.

While contemptuously ignoring the Palestinian Nakba, the catastrophe of an
innocent people that had to be cruelly uprooted from its ancestral homeland in
order to compensate Ashkenazi Jews for the holocaust, George Bush heaped lavish
praise on Israel, a state run by an essentially criminal elite of warmongers
and war criminals ever since its violent birth sixty years ago.

Bush began his ranting by pointing out how the Jewish people endured the agony
of the pogroms, the tragedy of the Great War, and the horrors of the
Holocaust, as if Jewish victimhood, however genuine it may be, gave Zionism
the right to commit genocide and ethnic cleaning against another people.

Bush quoted what Elie Wiesel called the Kingdom of the night where soulless
men took away lives and broke apart families, adding, yet they couldn't take
away the spirit of the Jewish people, and they could not break the promise of
God.

But he utterly ignored Zionism's own kingdom of darkness, where callous-hearted
criminals, bearing Jewish names but having Nazi hearts and minds, took away
lives and have broken families, who notwithstanding their evils, wouldn't be
able to take away the spirit of the Palestinian people, nor break the promise
of God.

Wiesel, the sanctimonious American Zionist paragon of hypocrisy and moral
duplicity has little moral authority to lecture the world on the evils of
Nazism. A man who says and boasts openly that he identifies himself with
Israeli crimes and that he couldn't bring himself to criticize Israel
irrespective of her murderous actions, is obviously unqualified for any moral
exemplification.

Bush spoke of Israel's thriving democracy, but evaded the fact that apartheid
and democracy can't coexist.

Could it be that the President of the United States, the erstwhile mother of
all democracies, didn't know that murdering innocent human beings knowingly and
deliberately, demolishing people's homes, stealing their land and confining
thousands of doctors, teachers, college professors and other professionals to
detention camps, without charge or trial, were unlawful acts that contravened
the most basic ideals of true democracy?

Bush enthusiastically hailed Israel for welcoming immigrants from the four
corners of Earth, but overlooked the fact that for each and every immigrant
Israel welcomed into Palestine, a native Palestinian Christian or Muslim was
either murdered, dispossessed of his property or deported to the four corners
of Earth.

George Bush is indeed a shameful and irredeemable liar. He had the audacity to
claim that America's enduring embrace of Israel's enduring criminality had
nothing to do with the violence, tension and instability in the Middle East.

Some people, he said, suggest that if the United States would just break
ties with Israel, all our problems in the Middle East would go away.

This is a tired argument that buys into the propaganda of our enemies, and
America rejects it utterly. Israel's population may be just over 7 million, but
when you confront terror and evil, you are 307 million strong, because America
stands with you.

Well, no one has ever demanded that the US break ties with Israel, although
this would in no way be an unconscionable demand, given Israel's Nazi-like
character.

What much of the world is demanding is that the US stop supporting the Israeli
policies of colonialism, ethnic cleansing and genocide against a people whose
only crime is its survival and longing for freedom from occupation and
apartheid.

Bush, having evoked the mantras of the chosen people and Massada shall not
fall again, even lashed out at the UN for criticizing Israel, but was utterly
oblivious of the horrendous crimes and grave human rights violations that
Israel has committed throughout its dark history, which prompted the
international

Israeli occupation: 1948-2008 a history of ethnic cleansing and genocide

Comment by Khalid Amayreh in occupied East Jerusalem

Just as Israel inaugurated its misbegotten birth with genocidal ethnic
cleansing sixty years ago, the evil brat of Zionism is marking its 60th
anniversary with yet another spate of bloodletting.

On Sunday, 27 April, the Israeli Defense Forces (a more appropriate
appellation would be the Jewish Wehrmacht) murdered a mother and her four
children in Beit Hanoun, a northern Gaza suburb.

The mother and her kids reportedly were having breakfast when an
artillery shell fired from an Israeli Merkava battle-tank hit their home,
killing them instantly and mutilating their bodies.

The graphic, blood-splattered images of the mutilated children and their
mother raised no eyebrows among Israeli leaders and the Zionist-Jewish public
opinion. After all, these Nazi-minded and Nazi-hearted Zionists have been doing
this for more than sixty years. And the world seems to be coming to terms with
these crimes as a fact of life. This is at least how Israel views world
reactions to its crimes against the peoples of the Middle East.

Anyone familiar with the Zionist way of thinking would tell you that
whenever a pornographic carnage is committed by the Israeli occupation army,
Israeli leaders don't indulge in soul-searching over the barbarian behavior
they engage in. Instead, they just activate their hasbara machine in order to
control the resulting public relations damage and help exonerate Israel of any
wrong doing before the eyes of the world.

Thus, these evil child killers have told us that their victims were
killed not by Israeli artillery shells, but rather by Palestinian explosives!
Well, didn't these wicked liars claim that Muhammed Durra was killed by
Palestinian snipers in order to tarnish Israel's image?

This is of course not the first time the Israeli army murders an entire
family in order to inflict shock and awe on a people as bent on living and
surviving as Israel is bent on killing and murdering. Israel's history, after
all, has been an uninterrupted concatenation of massacres and war crimes. In
fact, one would exaggerate very little by saying that Israel itself is a crime
against humanity, and for that matter a continuing crime against humanity.

The latest carnage in Gaza didn't occur in isolation. The entire Gaza
Strip has been languishing under a harsh blockade that has much in common with
the Nazi blockade of the Warsaw Ghetto in Poland in 1943.

This is a truth that many people in Europe and North America can't bring
themselves to accept, at least openly, because it is not politically correct to
do so. Well, does the West need to see a full-fledged holocaust in Palestine in
order to cast the holocaust guilt off its shoulders? Must Palestinian children
be slaughtered every morning and every evening in order to finally bring about
the long-awaited recuperation of Europe from the holocaust complex?

As a result of barring the estimated 1.5 million Gaza inhabitants from
accessing food, work, medicine and fuel, the vast bulk of the population has
been forced into abject poverty and virtual starvation.

Ill people who can't find the needed medicine and required medical care
in local health facilities, are left to succumb to their illnesses. It is
believed that more than 200 innocent Gazan patients have so far died as a
direct result of the callous Nazi-like siege.

This happens as Israeli officials appearing on western TV screens keep
assuring the mostly nonchalant or morally-apathetic western audiences that
under no circumstances would Israel allow a humanitarian crisis to develop
in Gaza. Well, what, apart from lies, do we expect from Zionism, a Godless,
satanic ideology based on murder, theft and mendacity?

What do we expect from a state that sends its crack soldiers to raid and
terrorize orphanages and boarding schools in Hebron in the dead of night?

What do we expect from a state that confiscates donated food for orphaned
children whose parents had been murdered by the Israeli army.a state that
orders its soldiers to raid inventory warehouses and steal shoes, clothes, even
underwear, of orphaned children under ten years of age?

What do we expect from a state whose soldiers murder 12-year-old school
kids, and then verify the kill by emptying 20 more bullets into the small
victim's body to make sure that the dead or dying little girl or boy doesn't
pose a threat to the security and safety of the heroic soldier?

What do we expect from a state whose army bulldozers crush peace
activists to death and then tells the world that the bulldozer driver acted
in accordance with outstanding instructions and did nothing wrong.

Is Dubai helping ethnic cleansing in Palestine?
  [ 20/04/2008 - 10:47 PM ]

From Khalid Amayreh in occupied Jerusalem

The government of Dubai recently allowed a major bankroller of Jewish
settlement expansion in the West Bank to open at least two Jewelry stores in
the Gulf emirate.

According to reliable sources in the United Arab Emirates, of which Dubai
is a key member-state, Israeli billionaire and diamond magnate Lev Leviev is
preparing to open two large jewelry stores in Dubai, a world's hub of Jewelry
trading.

The first store will be opened soon at the Burj Dubai Mall (Dubai Mall
Tower) while a second store is slated to be opened later this year in the new
Atlantis Hotel on the Jumeirah Palm Island.

Leviev has already opened one store in Dubai in March, 2008, in the
lobby of al-Qasr Hotel on Madinat Jumeirah.

The Dubai authorities were initially reluctant to grant the Israeli
billionaire a license to do business in the oil-rich emirate. However, Leviev
reportedly successfully lobbied North American and European connections to
convince Dubai officials to reconsider their objections.

Leviev's companies, including Africa-Israel and Leader Management
Development as well as several other subsidiaries, have been quite active in
displacing Palestinian villagers from their homes and land in several parts of
the West Bank.

The two firms have built hundreds of settler units in at least five
Jewish settlements constructed on land illegally seized from its Arab
proprietors.

In recent years, a company called Danya Cebus, a subsidiary of Leviev's
Africa-Israel built the settlement of Zufim on private Arab land seized from
the village of Jayyous. The same company has built hundreds of settler units
on land stolen from the village of Bilin. Numerous additional settler units
were built in the two large settlements of Ma'ali Adomim, a few kilometers east
of Jerusalem, and Har Homa, near the predominantly Christian Arab town of Beit
Sahur.

Israel hopes that these settlements will cut off East Jerusalem from the
rest West Bank, thus making the Palestinian dream of making the city the future
capital of a prospective Palestinian state utterly unrealistic and outright
impossible.

In addition to his intensive involvement in Jewish settlement expansion,
including colonies defined by the inherently unjust Israeli justice system as
manifestly illegal, Leviev has donated undisclosed but reportedly large sums
of money to the Land Redemption Fund, a land-grabbing organization affiliated
with Gush Emunim, the ideological group behind Jewish settlement activities in
the West Bank.

According to the Israeli newspaper, Yedeot Ahronot, the Land Redemption
Fund uses fraud and strong-arm tactics to seize land from Palestinians for
settlement expansion.

Last year the Israeli group, Peace Now, and other settlement-watch
groups, discovered that hundreds of settler units built in the settlement of
Matityahu in the Salfit region, in the central West Bank, were actually built
on private Palestinian land seized at gun point from its legal and rightful
Palestinian owners.

However, despite the discovery, the Israeli government refused to
dismantle the illegal settler units, with one Israeli official saying that
this problem will be discussed with the Palestinian Authority in the context
of final-status talks.

Leviev's companies are actually destroying the lives of thousands of
Palestinians by narrowing their horizons and dispossessing them of their
livelihoods.

Abdullah Abu Rahma from the village of Bilin and Sharif Omar from Jayyous
told representative of the human rights group Adala (www.adalahny.org), which
monitors Israeli theft Palestinian land, that Leviev's companies are
destroying the olive groves and farms that have sustained our villages for
centuries.

We call on people of conscience all over the world to impose broad
boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel similar to those
applied against apartheid South Africa.

The mayor of Jayous, which suffered incalculable losses due to Leviev's
destructive rampage in the northern West Bank, told this reporter that Leveiv
is indulging in ethnic cleansing against our community and our farmers.

He is building settlements at our expense; he is destroying our land,
our farms, and our orchards, and at the same time he is opening business in
Dubai in order to finance his crimes against our people. Shame on Dubai and its
government.

Some Jewish organizations opposed to the Israeli policy of ethnic
cleansing and apartheid have also called on the countries of the world to
boycott Israeli businesses and firms involved in disposing Palestinians of
their land.

We call on the government and people of the United Arab Emirates to join
the growing international campaign

Bismillah [IslamCity] Israel's war on Orphans

2008-04-20 Thread Khalid Amayreh

Israel's war on orphans
The fate of hundreds of orphans is in the balance after Israel's army attacked
their schools and residence, writes Khaled Amayreh in Hebron

Israel has of late been waging a dirty war against established Islamic
institutions in this southern West Bank town of nearly 200,000, the largest in
the West Bank, Hebron.

Under the rubric of fighting Hamas, Israeli troops and agents of the Shin Bet,
Israel's notorious domestic security agency, have been raiding and vandalising
charities, orphanages, boarding schools and affiliated businesses.

The unprecedented campaign began mid-February when Israeli troops stormed two
orphanages run by the Islamic Charitable Society (ISC), one of the oldest
charities in Palestine, and the local Muslim Youth Association building. Having
thoroughly terrorised hundreds of sleeping children, the soldiers moved to one
building after the other, confiscating furniture, smashing glass, looting
valuable items and leaving a trail of destruction.

Before they left, the Zionist vandals handed charity officials a tersely worded
order signed by the local army commander stating that all the schools,
orphanages, eateries, apartment buildings and support businesses owned by the
charity were confiscated and that the Israeli army was the sole legal
proprietor of all the expropriated premises.

As to the fate of more than 1,000 orphaned boys and girls, poor students, and
charity employees, the army said: it is none of our business. We are only
carrying out orders.

Justifying the harsh action, Israeli military officials claimed that the ICS
was connected with Hamas, a claim Hebron civil leaders and charity officials
vehemently deny. Al-Ahram Weekly spoke to Mohamed Farrah, a lawyer and legal
advisor to the charity.

When we approached them, [the Israeli authorities] cited generalities and
abstract issues, such as teaching the Quran and Islamic history and encouraging
students to lead an Islamic lifestyle based on moral purity. I told them that
if these things were indicting evidence, then the entire Muslim world from
Jakarta to Casablanca belonged to Hamas. You are making a superpower out of
Hamas, Farrah said.

Farrah argues that the Israelis are waging a dirty war on Islam as a religion
under the pretext of fighting Hamas and other Islamic organisations opposed to
the Israeli occupation of Palestine. This is simply a brazen violation of our
religious and human rights. Israel is an occupying power and it has no right to
prevent us from teaching or practising our religion. If there is any tangible
violation, let us know what it is, but making insinuations and concocting
charges is unacceptable, he said.

Farrah urges the international community to intervene because obviously we
can't receive justice under Israel's unjust justice system. Here Israel is
policeman, plaintiff, judge and enemy combined. How can we possibly receive
justice under such circumstances when the occupation authorities view all
Palestinians as guilty even if proven innocent?

Demonstrating utter disregard for due process, the Israeli army went as far as
raiding the kitchens and clothes inventories of the two orphanages,
confiscating diary products, frozen meat, fruit and vegetables, refrigerators
and baking ovens.

Meanwhile, the deadline for vacating the orphanages and boarding schools
expired 8 April. Hundreds of orphans, with the encouragement of charity
officials and foreign peace activists, decided to stay put because this is our
home and our school and we have no other place to go.

Last week, a group of Christian Peacemaking Team (CPT) activists from North
America and Europe spent a night with the children at the main orphanage to
boost their morale and help protect them from an expected storming of the
building by the Israeli army.

On 7 April, the Popular Committee for Supporting Orphanages, composed of local
community leaders, hosted a press conference at the Hebron Girls Orphanage,
with dozens of peace activists, clergymen and journalists as well as some of
the victimised orphan girls attending.

Farrah spoke at the conference, accusing the Israeli authorities of lying with
regard to the charity's alleged connections with Hamas.

They are making sweeping charges and allegations, but when we challenge them
to prove these charges and allegations, they tell us they have secret evidence.
I challenge our accusers to prove their charges, and if they can't, they should
have the guts to admit that they made a mistake, he said.

Mohamed Salhab, head of the Muslim Youth Society, which was also closed down,
argues that Israel had no right to invade, let alone close down and confiscate,
Palestinian institutions. We are based in Area-A, which according to the Oslo
Accords, falls under exclusive Palestinian control. This is therefore an act of
sheer aggression that is

Signs of torture on Barghouthi's legs

Comment by Khalid Amayreh in Ramallah

A government that murders its political opponents, by way of torture or
assassination, and then tries to cover up the crime, or mitigate its gravity,
is a criminal government, pure and simple.

As Palestinian citizens, we are worried that the Ramallah-based
government is effectively becoming just another Arab police state, to be added
to the other 22 other police states in the Arab world. But there is a very a
conspicuous difference, because in our case, the Palestinian state is
obviously a police state without a state.

Two weeks ago, the Palestinian General Intelligence, also known as
Mukhabarat, arrested, reportedly in a brutal manner, eight people from the
village of Kober near Ramallah. Among the detainees was the imam of the local
mosque, Majd al Barghouthi, 45, and father to eight children. The main charge
leveled against him was related to a firearm he allegedly was hiding somewhere.
Al-Barghouthi denied that he possessed or knew of any firearm.

For eight successive days, al-Barghouthi was subjected to harsh physical
torture, including severe beating, burns, sleep deprivation, and the so-called
hooding technique, virtually the same types of torture employed by Israeli
domestic intelligence apparatus, the Shin Beth, against Palestinian inmates.

On Wednesday, 20 February, al-Barghouthi lost consciousness and was
unceremoniously taken to a hospital in Ramallah. The treating doctor told the
Mukhabarat agents that the man was in critical condition and that he needed
urgent hospitalization.

However, the Mukhabarat agents didn't heed the doctor's advice, and
decided to take him back to the torture chamber.

On Friday, 22 February, al Barghouthi died, reportedly during an extended
torture session.

According to inmates, who were being held in a neighboring chamber, he
cried out for help for several hours to no avail, and then his voice got
weaker and weaker, until he died.

Following his death, Mukhabarat officials as well as some PA and Fatah
spokespersons switched into the damage-control mode, claiming that the man
had been ill and that he had had a heart problem.

His family and relatives have vehemently denied that he had had any
serious health problems. They insist that their son was simply murdered by the
ruthless Mukhabarat apparatus.

This writer has had the opportunity to observe the body of the victim and
can testify that the man had indeed been subjected to extremely savage and
beating, strangulation, and administration of electrical burns.

Dozens of physicians, journalists, lawmakers and ordinary people have
seen with their own eyes the extent of the torture the victim had undergone.

These are not allegations, but facts.

Now, the ball is undoubtedly in Mahmoud Abbas's court. As President of
the Palestinian Authority, he is legally and morally responsible for what
happened.

The Palestinian people expect him to behave and act, not like a head of
the Fatah organization, but as President of all Palestinians. This is indeed
the ultimate test of the credibility of Mr. Abbas, and if, God forbids, he
fails this test, he won't be taken seriously ever after.

This means that he must order a truly neutral and professional inquiry
commission to look into what exactly happened and establish the truth within a
reasonable period of time.

The Palestinian people must be assured that there will be no foul-play
and no whitewashing and no cover-up. After all, we are not a group of imbeciles
and simpletons whom the so-called government can easily deceive and
bamboozle. In the final analysis, the raison d'etre of any government is to
serve the people, not kill them.

Indeed, if it turns out that al-Barghouthi died as a result of torture,
which is very likely, the PA chairman and his government must have the courage
to address the Palestinian people and tell them the truth, the whole truth, and
nothing but the truth, about what happened.

And then, we, the people of Palestine, will expect his Excellency, to
immediately fire the Head of the General Intelligence, Mr. Tawfiq al Tirawi,
for violating the law which prohibits the practice of torture and for being
instrumental to a homicide.

We will also expect him to prosecute the person or persons directly and
indirectly involved in the death of al-Barghouthi.

But there are certain tasks Abbas doesn't have to wait for the results
of the investigation to carry them out.

President Abbas should immediately instruct all his security agencies to
stop the employment of torture in their dungeons and interrogation chambers. It
is really a disgrace that while we complain about the rampant

Palestinians should seek reparations from Germany

By Khalid Amayreh in the West Bank

21 February, 2008

In the early months of the Aqsa intifada against the Israeli occupation, an
Israeli officer in the Nablus region told dozens of handcuffed and blindfolded
Palestinian detainees that we are treating you like the Nazis treated us, and
maybe when you are free from our grip, you will find another people whom you
will treat the same way we are treating you.

These were not facetious remarks. That officer was actually displaying
definitive symptoms of a chronic collective psychosis permeating through the
Israeli Jewish society. It is this collective mental sickness that make
Israelis commit the most heinous crimes without feeling the slightest shred of
guilt.

Didn't Dan Halutz, the former Israeli air-force commander and later chief of
staff boast that he slept well at night and felt no compunctions after he
ordered an F-16 fighter warplane to drop a one-ton bomb on a residential
apartment building in downtown Gaza , killing sixteen sleeping people,
including 11 children.

In truth, there is an umbilical relationship between the holocaust and
Israel's nefarious behavior toward the Palestinians. In the final analysis,
the Palestinians are the victims' victims as the late Palestinian intellectual
Edward Said put it.

In fact, one would not cross into the realm of the absurd by arguing that
had Jews not been victims of the holocaust, the Palestinians would most likely
have not been victimized by Jews in such a diabolical manner and for that long.

In a certain sense, one can say with very little exaggeration that it was Nazi
Germany that created Israel. Yes, Zionism predated the holocaust; but it was
the holocaust that gave Zionism the ultimate argument for Jewish statehood.

Not only that, the holocaust proved to be, even today, the ultimate blocker of
any meaningful objections to Israeli criminality against the peoples of the
Middle East. This explains why and how Israel, which can be viewed, more or
less, as an incarnation of Nazi Germany, is treated by the world community as
above the laws governing the rest of the world.

Moreover, Israelis continue to evoke the holocaust to justify their harsh
repression of Palestinians. Even calls by Jewish settlers for sending the
Arabs to the oven (which any visitor to Hebron can see scrawled on the walls
at the Jewish settler enclave in the city) are justified by the holocaust.
Every criticism of Israeli criminality and supremacy, every legitimate
objection to the wanton repression meted out to the Palestinian, every
criticism of the marauding settlers is always met with the holocaust mantra.!
In short, every Palestinian, man, woman, and child, is made to suffer and die
because of the holocaust.

Today, every conscripted Israeli soldier, especially those serving in the West
Bank, is made to visit the Yad va Chem holocaust museum in Jerusalem right
before he or she is deployed to Palestinian population centers to repress and
torment these helpless people who had nothing to do with the holocaust.

And one doesn't have to be a great psychologist to connect the dots and
understand the real ghoulish implications of associating the Nazis, the
tormentors of the Jews, with the Palestinian, the victims of Zionism

For most Israeli soldiers, the mental message is unmistakable. The
Palestinians are today's Nazis.and by killing and brutalizing them in the
harshest of manners, the Jews are only preventing the recurrence of another
holocaust. Some Israelis feel that by savaging the Palestinians they are
actually avenging the holocaust vicariously, which gives them immense
psychological satisfaction.

In their subconscious thinking, many Israeli Jews actually admire the Nazis
and their brutality. This is why some of these soldiers and officers often
seek to emulate Nazi brutality and project it on Palestinians, since for
them might is always right.

Moral blindness

This brings us to post-war Germany and its moral surrender to Zionist
blackmail. For nearly sixty years now, Germany has been trying to atone for the
holocaust by enabling Israel to commit another holocaust against the
Palestinians, never mind that it is a holocaust without gas chambers.

Germany from Konrad Adnauer to Angel Merkel behaved toward Israel in a manner
that callously and completely disregarded the monumental oppression meted out
by Israel to the Palestinian people.

Germans in general and the German political elite in particular passively
watched Israel commit every conceivable crime against the helpless
Palestinians, but turned their faces away for fear of displeasing their
powerful former victims who came to be in control of powerful nations, such the
United States.

Germany was always afraid and reluctant to call the spade

  Sarkozy: The Extraordinary Zionist
  [ 19/02/2008 - 01:30 AM ]

Comment by Khalid Amayreh in Occupied E. Jerusalem

Est-ce Sarkozy est Sioniste extraordinair? Is French President Nicolas
Sarkozy an extraordinary Zionist.? Well, his behavior so far indicates that he
is.

Last week, Mr. Sarkozy was quoted as saying that he wouldn't shake hands
with anyone that didn't recognize Israel as a Jewish state. The gravity of his
statement is very real, since accepting Israel as an exclusively Jewish state
amounts to condoning and embracing racism in its most fundamentalist forms. It
is very much like insisting that France should belong exclusively to the
Catholics and that the non-Catholic citizens of France would have to come to
terms with their inferior status as lesser citizens who eventually would have
to choose between embracing Catholicism or expulsion.

Moreover, Sarkozy recently suggested that France wouldn't attend an
anti-racism conference scheduled to take place in South Africa this year if
Israeli apartheid came under attack.

Well, Mr. Sarkozy, how do you think the people of the world should relate
to Israeli apartheid? Should they sing the Tikva in unison and glorify all the
ethnic cleansing Israel has been effecting against the indigenous Palestinians
ever since its misbegotten birth nearly sixty years ago?

Maybe you would claim there is no apartheid in Israel. But such a
pornographic claim would only be an expression of either clarion ignorance or
clarion lack of rectitude since apartheid in Israel-Palestine is an
uncontroversial truism.

Besides, don't you watch TV? Don't you read the French and Israeli press?
Don't French diplomats in Israel convey to you the real image? And how about
the dozens of Israeli intellectuals, people of conscience and morality like the
former Speaker of the Israeli Knesset, Avraham Burg, who have described Israeli
apartheid and criminality in graphic details?

Mr. Sarkozy: If you are ignorant of these conspicuous facts, it's really
a calamity. And if you are aware of them but still insisting on giving
Israel the benefit of the doubt, it's even a greater calamity. This is sad, Mr.
President. Very sad, indeed.

And you are planning to attend the celebrations marking Israel's 60th
anniversary.

Well, that is even more lamentable, because celebrating Israel's
foundation anniversary, especially while the Palestinian plight is deepening
with the passage of each and every day, amounts to celebrating the triumph of
racism, ethnic cleansing and genocide.

It is very much like celebrating the advent to power in Germany of the
Third Reich. Yes, Mr. President, the similarities are striking.

In Nazi Germany they had an evil mantra called the master race, and
here in Israel they have an equally diabolical mantra called the chosen
people.

In Nazi Germany, they had the Ubermensch concept, and here in Israel
they have the goyem whose rights and lives are expendable.

In Nazi Germany they had the idea of lebensraum, and Israel they argue
that Jews have got to live somewhere, a euphemism for stealing Palestinian
land and expelling these helpless and powerless people from their ancestral
homeland, all for the purpose of fulfilling Jewish nationalism, a nationalism
that has more in common with Hitler's Mein Kampf than with the Torah of Moses.

Mr. Sarkozy: By choosing to embrace Zionism and identify your
administration with Israel's Nazi like policies and practices, you are
effectively betraying the principles of the French Republic.

Are you still truly committed to liberty, equality and fraternity? If
you are, then it is clear that you are betraying these principles.

In Israel, there is no liberty for five million Palestinians who are
treated as children of a lesser God, whose children are murdered because they
are non-Jews, whose homes are demolished because they are non-Jews and whose
land is taken away from them because they are non-Jews.

In Israel there is no liberty for the Palestinians. Instead there are
huge walls, detention camps, checkpoints, roadblocks, bypass roads, and mass
incarceration and a justice system that is worse than a house of whoredom.

In Israel there is no equality because the state itself belongs to one
segment of its citizens, namely the Jews, and if you are not Jewish, you've got
to rely on the good will and magnanimity of the master race.

And fraternity! Well, fraternity and Zionism can't and shouldn't be used
in the same sentence. They are contradictory concepts because fraternity is
integrationalist and universalist while Zionism is segregationalist and
particularist. In short, fraternity and Zionism are a contradiction in terms.

Mr. Sarkozy, I have decided to write this article because there is a real
contradiction

Gangsterly state

By Khalid Amayreh in occupied East Jerusalem

13 February, 2008

Is there a real difference between a criminal state and a criminal individual?
Is there a difference between classical gangsters and armed robbers who
hold-up people and steal their money at gunpoint, and a state, which claims to
be the only democracy in the Middle East and a light upon the nations of the
world, that commits very much the same crime?

On Monday, on 11 February, and in broad day light, Israeli occupation soldiers
raided dozens of homes, money changers and businesses throughout the West Bank
after ordering forces answerable to Palestinian Authority Chairman
Mahmoud Abbas to stay indoor until a further notice.

According to one of the victims in the city of Hebron, the soldiers behaved
very much like gangsters, thugs and common criminals.

They stormed my shop, trained their guns at me, and ordered me to give them
the money, or else, said one of the victims who implored this writer not to
mention his name lest he be further savaged by the most benevolent occupying
army.

His neighbor, a grocery store keeper, said the soldiers simply emptied all the
money, in Jordanian Dinars, Israeli Shekels and US dollars, in plastic sacs,
and left.

They behaved like cowboys in the wide wild west in classical American movies,
he said.

I asked him to describe his feelings, having watched Israeli soldiers ganging
up on his neighbor and robbing him of all his money and life-savings at one
fell swoop.

The man, visibly frustrated and furious, said If the occupation is an act of
rape, and it actually is, then the agents of the occupation, the soldiers,
are the rapists by excellence.

You see, they can do to us anything they want, they kill our children, they
destroy our homes, they bulldoze our property, and they steal our money. And
when we cry out for justice, they call us terrorists and dump us into detention
camps like a piece of luggage.

In brief, I'm talking about a criminal state that views us as creatures
unworthy of living, very much like the Nazis viewed their victims more than 60
years ago.

Arresting Palestinians for seeking redress

Raiding homes and businesses and stealing money is not the only gangsterly
behavior of the Israeli state. This week, the Israeli Minister of Interior
instructed the police to arrest several Palestinians in East Jerusalem for
daring to appeal to the Israeli High Court to order a halt to the bulldozing of
ancient Muslim archeological sites adjacent to the Aqsa Mosque.

The appellants violated no law and were only exercising their right to seek
redress and justice.

However, the Israeli state apparently saw that justice and redress were too
much of a luxury for non-Jews. This is the very same state whose Justice
system last week ruled that there was no sufficient ground for indicting a
number of crack policemen who had murdered 13 Israeli Arab citizens in October,
2000, during a demonstration against Israeli atrocities in the West Bank.

At least some of these soldiers had admitted that they killed their victims
deliberately and unjustifiably because they were Arabs.

Well, while every civilized and decent human being is affronted by the behavior
of such a wantonly mendacious state, no one should really be surprised.

We are talking about Israel, a state that not only acquits murderers of
murdering Palestinian school kids, but actually goes as far awarding the
child-killers hefty financial compensation for committing the dirty crimes.
The case of 12-year-old Iman al Hams and her killer Captain R. will always be
a clarion indictment of Israeli criminality and racism, and no amount of
hasbara whitewashing will wash this shame away.

Modus operandi

In fact, when dealing with Israeli crimes and terrorism against the virtually
helpless Palestinians one is often at loss as to where to begin and where to
end, because Israel is simply a criminal entity from head to toe.
State-sponsored crimes are Israel's modus operandi. In recent days, Israeli
leaders, from Noble Laureate and proverbial peace dove, Shimon Peres, to
Ehud Olmert, to Ehud Barak to Haim Ramon to the end of the list have been
threatening to annihilate Gaza and throw its 1.5 million residents into the sea
or into the Sinai desert.

The threats made by these certified war criminals must always be taken
seriously. After all, it is they who have been imposing a Nazi-like blockade
on Gaza pushing the impoverished coastal territory to a humanitarian disaster
unprecedented since the Palestinian Nakba or catastrophe in 1948, when the
legions of Zionism massacred and terrorized the bulk of native Palestinians
into fleeing their homeland.

A Zionist genocide, partial or complete, of Palestinians, especially in Gaza,
can't be ruled out. There is simply nothing that would prevent these modern
Nazis from

America's whoredom season

By Khalid Amayreh in Occupied East Jerusalem

And the governor said, Why, what evil that man (Jesus) has done? But they
cried out more vociferously, shouting, let him die, let him die. And when
Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was being
made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am
innocent of the blood of this just person; see ye to it. Then all the people
answered, saying: His blood be on us, and on our children.Matthew 27 (23-26).

As always in an election year, American presidential contenders are displaying
some distinguishable differences on a whole range of political, social and
economic issues affecting American voters.

However, there is one single issue that solidly unifies all aspirants to the
White House, and it doesn't matter if you are republican or democrat, black or
white, liberal or conservative, religious or unreligious. Everyone must go with
the flow because those who don't will lose and be vilified by the multitudinous
tongues of evil men whose pagan god is Israel and religion is Zionism.

This issue is, of course, Israel and its enduring Nazi-like oppression of
the Palestinian people.

In America, as some American intellectuals have come to realize, Israel is
not only innocent until proven guilty, as the rest of humanity is treated.
Israel is actually innocent, super-innocent, even if proven guilty a thousand
times, as undoubtedly it has been. This benevolent innocence is not a variable;
it is an absolute, immutable constant, irrespective of how many thousands of
innocent Palestinian and Lebanese civilians Israel murders, how many houses
Israel destroys, and how many nefarious crimes Israel commits.

Israel is after all God's nation and the apple of the Lord's eye, and as such
is incapable of being guilty or even mistaken as the late American evangelical
leader Jerry Falwell claimed.

Now is the election season, or, more correctly, the season of political
prostitution and moral whoredom, in the United States. In this marketplace of
wanton hucksterism, Israel is the ultimate holy cow, the sacrosanct mantra
whose invocation justifies the unjustifiable, even the unthinkable.

Maybe many Americans will wonder why a Palestinian living 12000 kilometers
away would speak so harshly of their marvelous quadrennial carnival of
democracy. Well, in a certain sense I don't blame them. They are a people whose
fanatically ignorant president invaded, occupied and destroyed two sovereign
nations, and killed or caused the death of over a million innocent people
because God told him to do it.

They are a people whose country has been bankrolling and arming to the teeth a
manifestly evil state that has been murdering, tormenting and oppressing a
nearly helpless people, the Palestinians, on no account other than the fact
that the victims are not members of the holy tribe.

It is a country whose top leader had the moral audacity to call Israel's
certified war criminal, Ariel Sharon, may he lodge in hell for eternity, a man
of peace. It is a country that is trying to spread democracy overseas by
starving and tormenting a people for electing the wrong political party. It is
a country that has made words such as Abu Ghraib, renditions and
Guantanamo household names.

In America, they call it political correctness, since voicing a nonconformist
view regarding Israel, however innocuous and reasonable, would amount to a
definite political suicide.

It is political suicide to call for peace and justice in Palestine, since
justice for the Palestinians would always be construed to mean another
holocaust for Jews. It is political suicide to invoke UN resolutions 242 and
338, as the basis of a prospective peace settlement between Israel and the
Palestinians. It is political suicide to call on Israel to stop targeting
Palestinian civilians.because then you are raising questions about Israel's
morality especially its most moral army.

It is political suicide to even invoke the very humanity of the Palestinians
because Israel's enemies, or more correctly victims, can't be really human, at
least humans whose humanity is equal or comparable to the humanity of the
chosen race!!

In this conspicuously intimidating atmosphere, even a passing allusion to
international law and human rights, as guiding considerations for the
resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, would be sufficient to bring
about the political decapitation of any presidential hopeful who dares to even
slightly differ with the powerful Zionist cult now enslaving American
politics, media and public discourse.

In Jesus' time, at least the pagan Roman governor of Jerusalem, Pilate,
possessed the moral decency to claim innocence of the blood of this just man.
However, in today's America, it is very

 Obscene Anomaly

 By Khalid Amayreh

 2 February, 2008

The Israeli embassy in Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, came under
attack by anonymous gunmen this week. The attack, in which no people were
killed, showed that the Mauritanian people don't like the presence of Israelis
and Zionists on their national soil.

Terrorism, of course, should be condemned in the strongest terms. However, the
presence of an Israeli diplomatic mission in the heart of Nouakchott is a
brazen provocation to the sensibilities and feelings of Mauritanian citizens

After all, like the rest of mankind, Mauritanians watch on a daily basis what
Israel is doing in Gaza and the West Bank, namely the genocidal campaign of
ethnic cleansing the Zionist military-political establishment has been
effecting against helpless Palestinians.

In fact, the presence of Israeli embassies, consulates, charge d'affaires ,
trade offices in Arab and Muslim capitals should be viewed as a monumental
disgrace for concerned states and their governments and rulers. This is very
much like maintaining normal relations with Nazi Germany while the Third Reich
was busy classifying people into Ubermensch and Untermensch and exterminating
numerous multitudes of people in order to fulfill German nationalism.just as
Israel has been, more or less, doing to the Palestinians since its misbegotten
birth sixty years ago.

Again, no one should seek to justify or encourage any acts of terror. But the
presence of the representatives of a Nazi-like regime, that flies in the face
of human rights and international law, in Arab and Muslim capitals is a crime
that is even worse, I would say much worse, than the crime of terror.

Needless to say, the presence of Israeli embassies and diplomats in Arab and
Muslim capitals implies legitimization of ethnic cleansing, genocide,
occupation, colonialism and the systematic dispossession and attempted
obliteration of the Palestinian people.

In fact, Israeli embassies throughout the world perform several functions, all
of them evil and immoral. The premier function of any given Israeli embassy is
to justify, defend, extenuate and explain the criminal acts carried out,
nearly on a daily basis, against helpless men, women and children, who simply
want to be free and refuse to be annihilated quietly.

These criminal acts include the deliberate murder of innocent civilians,
destruction of their homes, bulldozing of their farms and decimation of their
ability to live a normal life. In other words, Israeli ambassadors and consuls
and charge d'affaires effectively act as public relations officer for the
Israeli occupation army, a Jewish Wehrmacht by every standard of morality.

Their lies are incalculable as they are obscene. They claim that the harsh
blockade on the Gaza Strip's 1.5 million inhabitants, now in effect for the
eighth consecutive month, is not meant to harm civilians and is only in
response to rockets fired by Palestinian freedom fighters onto Israeli
settlements.

Of course, these lies are pornographic just as Israeli atrocities are also
pornographic because anyone with even rudimentary knowledge of the situation
in Palestine-Israel knows quite well that the rockets are only a pretext, and
that the real motive behind the slow-motion genocide in Gaza is to simply kill
as many Palestinians as the world public opinion allows, under existing
circumstances, and possibly destroy the democratically elected Hamas
government in order to enable America's Palestinian lackeys in Ramallah to
sell out the Palestinian cause and inalienable rights unopposed.

Israeli embassies and diplomatic missions have the habit of giving a rosy
picture of the democratic Israeli society and how Jews and non-Jews are
treated equally.

I don't know if the Mauritanian ambassador in Israel conveys to his government
back in Nouakchott the real reality, not the virtual reality, created by
Zionist propaganda.

From example, does he inform his government that Israeli cabinet ministers,
Knesset members, and even rabbis routinely call for the ethnic cleansing of
non-Jews, who are actually Israeli citizens?

Does His Excellency inform his government that the Israeli occupation army
often murders 50 or 70 or even a hundred Palestinians, mostly innocent
civilians, for every Israeli settler killed by Palestinians?

Does His Excellency inform his superiors that some rabbis, even high-ranking
ones, constantly call for the relocation and deportation of Palestinians
from their ancestral homeland to Arabian deserts.from Sinai, to Saudi Arabia to
even the sub-Sahara desert in North Africa?

Does he inform his government that an important Israeli rabbi by the name of
David Batsri routinely teaches in his synagogue that Arabs are actually
donkeys, not human beings, and that the Almighty created them in a human shape
only in order

A Hanukkah of light vs. a Hanukkah of darkness

From Khalid Amayreh in Occupied East Jerusalem

4 December, 2007

Hanukkah is the Jewish holiday of light that recounts the Talmudic story of the
Maccabees' victory over the armies of King Antiochus IV. The story symbolizes
the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

This year, the celebration of Hanukkah coincides with a slow-motion genocide
the legions of Zionism are carrying out against nearly 1.5 million helpless
human beings in the Gaza Strip.

According to human rights organizations, Gazans are dying in significant
numbers as Israel continues to bar them from accessing food and work. Scores of
patients have also succumbed to their illnesses thanks to Israel's refusal to
allow these unfortunate people to travel abroad or reach the West Bank to seek
proper medical care.

This week, the Israeli Supreme Court, a mere rubber stamp in the hands of the
occupation army, authorized further cuts of fuel supplies and electricity to
Gaza.

This, coupled with the sinister policy of denying Gazans access to fresh food,
vaccines, and clean water, is already having a disastrous impact on innocent
people whose only crime is that 23 months ago, they elected a government that
Israel didn't like.

According to the Maan News Agency, hospitals in Gaza are already facing
nightmarish conditions resulting from the fuel shortage.

Muawiya Hassanin, Director of Emergency Medical Services in Gaza, was quoted as
saying that the continued cutoff of fuel supplies to Gaza would cause the
destruction of crucial vaccines and other essential medication supplies. The
fuel Shortage is also impacting intensive care units, dialysis units, operating
rooms and neonatal incubators.

In addition to the callous blockade, the Israeli occupation army murders
innocent Palestinian civilians on a daily basis. And to justify or at least
extenuate these crimes, the Israeli army routinely concocts excuses, pretexts
and lies which are readily parroted by a generally dishonest western media
that refuses to call things by their real names.

As an occupying power, Israel is morally and legally obliged under
international law to meet the needs of the people of Gaza. Israel claims to
have ended its occupation of the Gaza Strip. But this is a brash lie since the
Israeli occupation army continues to control Gaza's borders, land, air and sea.
Even impoverished Gaza fishermen seeking to obtain food for their starving kids
from the sea are routinely hounded and often killed by Israeli gunboats.

In the West Bank, the same policy of murder and oppression reigns supreme
despite all the artificial aura of hope and good will Israel and the West are
trying to foster, particularly in the aftermath of the American-hosted
conference in Annapolis, Maryland.

On Sunday, 2 December, trigger-happy Israeli soldiers shot and killed
31-year-old Firas Qasqas near Ramallah as he was walking with his brother
outside the latter's home. The father of three female children died a few hours
later at Ramallah's government hospital. As usual in such circumstances, the
Israeli army issued a terse statement, saying the army was investigating the
incident.

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation troops continue, nearly every night, to storm
Palestinian homes, usually in the quiet hours before dawn, terrorizing innocent
men, women and children.

They beat and humiliate fathers in full view of their wives and children and
vandalize property before dragging youngsters all the way to the notorious
Ketziot detention camp in the Negev desert in southern Israel.

Israel already detains as many as 11,000 Palestinians, many without charge or
trial. Indeed, numerous detainees have intimated to this journalist that they
don't really know why they are being incarcerated.

Furthering abusing its authority as an occupying power, Israel often keeps
inmates in prison months and even years after the expiration of their
respective prison terms, apparently to further torment them and break, as much
as possible, their mental sanity.

And when a given prisoner is released, he is often rearrested three months
later without any genuine reason, apart from the sick desire to disrupt his
family life and keep him in a constant state of anxiety.

Why does Israel indulge in all these obscenities against a thoroughly tormented
people whose only crime is its enduring desire to be free?

Do these sick minds really think that oppressing and humiliating helpless
Palestinians give them a feeling of virility and manliness.? Is manliness
measured by the extent to which a solider humiliates and brutalizes another
human being? If so, then the Gestapo, SS and the Wehrmacht must have been the
most virile and manly of all men!!

Zionism not only has wreaked havoc and vengeance on a people that had nothing
to do with the holocaust, but has also nearly

Our great Palestinian negotiators

From Khalid Amayreh in Ramallah

2 December, 2007

Defending the farcical Annapolis conference, Palestinian negotiator Sa'eb
Ureikat has been indulging in a lot of verbal theatrics lately.

In a succession of interviews with the indisputably pliant Palestinian media,
the devil of Jericho, as the late Yasser Arafat used to refer to him, has
argued that the Palestinian negotiators are actually fighting a real battle
with Israel for the purpose of restoring Palestinian rights.

Other Palestinian negotiators, mostly veterans of the ill-reputed Oslo era,
have been making similar statements, aimed at duping the Palestinian masses
into giving the Annapolis malarkey the benefit of the doubt.

Well, if battle it is, then it is amply clear that Palestinian negotiators
are marching to it almost totally unprepared despite the existence of a
Negotiations Affairs Department (NAD), which is answerable to the PLO, as
well as a well-oiled Negotiations Support Unit (NSU) at which corruption,
nepotism and cronyism reign supreme.

The NSU is funded and effectively controlled by the Adam Smith Institute
(ASI), a pro-Israeli right-wing Think-Tank based in London. ASI runs the NSU
through a man named Andrew Kuhn, who has the official title of Senior Policy
Advisor

ASI defines itself as the UK's leading innovator of practical market-economic
policies. For over 25 years it has been a pioneer in the worldwide movement
towards free markets, public-sector reform, and free trade.

The Institute's main focus is on reforming governments and state enterprises in
order to promote choice, competition, enterprise, and user-focus. It works
through research, reports, conferences, advice, and media debate.

As to how this institute can be entrusted with formulating recommendations
on how Palestinian negotiators ought to deal with final status issues remains
a mystery, at least to this writer.

Since 1999, the NSU has received tens of millions of dollars from European
donors, including UK, which pays the lion's share, Norway, The Netherlands and
Denmark.

However, there is a shroud of secrecy surrounding NSU activities and especially
with regard to its financial transparency and undeclared international
connections. Inside sources have intimated that some of the NSU executives
receive hefty salaries reaching $15,000 per month, in addition to other
unspecified perks.

According to the sources, the NSU, which is closely monitored by ASI, is
instructed to have no contacts with Palestinians who reject the Oslo Accords or
are affiliated with organizations such as Hamas. NSU is also advised by the
donors to shun Palestinians and others who hold maximalist attitudes toward
Israel and on core issues such as 'the right of return' and Jerusalem.

The NSU is also instructed to refrain from giving legal advice to the NAD and
Palestinian negotiators if such an advice is incompatible with the letter and
spirit of the Oslo Accords and subsequent bilateral agreements between Israel
and the Palestinian Authority.

For example, the NSU recommended that the opening negotiating position adopted
by the PA start with the demand that Israel should withdraw to the fourth of
June, 1967, with the possibility of a land swap not exceeding 5% of the total
area of the West Bank.

I really don't understand why the PA allows a foreign-funded body to have an
influence on a matter so paramount as the negotiations with Israel. Aren't
there competent Palestinian experts to do the job? Can't the PA itself have an
independent Palestinian negotiations support unit?

I recently spoke with Prof. Ali Jerbawi, Political Science Professor at Beir
Zeit University and asked him why Palestinian negotiators had decided to make
the Israeli withdrawal to the 1967 borders and the resolution of the refugee
plight pursuant UN resolution 194, the maximum ceiling of their demands?

Jerbawi laughed and then said the following: Because they are stupid, because
they are ignorant, because they don't understand the basics of negotiations.
Even my grandmother understood that in order to have a reasonable price for
one's commodity, one had to demand first the highest possible price in order
to finally get the wanted price.

They should have made the 1947- partition resolution, not UN resolutions 242
and 338. their opening negotiating position. After all, if negotiations are to
be conducted pursuant international law, then Palestinian negotiators should
remind Israel and the world that the 1967 borders were actually and still are
military armistice lines, not de jure borders.

Jerbawi is right and to the point. The Armistice agreements of 1949 allowed
Israel to gain 77% of the total land of mandatory Palestine. These agreements
gave Israel the right to occupy 22% of Palestine more than the area allotted
to the Jewish state

Lies from Annapolis

From Khalid Amayreh in the West Bank

28 November, 2007

The peoples of the world are being subjected to a fresh dose of lies, this time
coming from Annapolis, Maryland, in the United States.

George Bush, the Fuehrer of the White House, who has destroyed two
nation-states and killed a million human beings, and then had the chutzpa to
claim that the Almighty told him to do so, displayed some of his
characteristically morbid magic this week.

He invited delegates from 50 nations to watch Israel, a state whose modus
operandi consists of murder, theft and mendacity, and the miserable
Palestinian Authority, which claims to represent the most uninterruptedly
oppressed people on the face of earth, to pledge peace and reconciliation that
would end decades of violence and bloodshed.

Speaking from a prepared text, Bush re-asserted his proverbial vision of seeing
two states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace. He didn't
forget to warn that the would-be Palestinian state must govern justly and
dismantle the infrastructure of terror.

Bush tried to create an artificial aura of optimism by claiming that he was
convinced that the leaders of both sides, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert
and PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, were finally willing and ready to make peace.

Well, Bush's convictions are many, but are evidently mostly silly.

There is no doubt that Abbas earnestly wants peace for his nearly decimated
people, constantly coerced, bullied and raped by an imperialistic Israel
that very much resembles Nazi Germany during the heydays of its insolence and
arrogance of power.

After all, the Palestinians, who have almost miraculously survived in spite
of history, are the main victim of this sinister lingering outrage which allows
Israel to constantly steal more Palestinian land for the purpose of creating
more lebensraum for Jewish settlement expansion.

But Palestinian national survival can't really be take for granted no matter
how many peace conferences are organized and how many foreign dignitaries are
invited and how many nice-sounding speeches are given.

Zionism's aggressive blitz of ethnic cleaning against non-Jews west of the
River Jordan is more than alarming for the starved and blockaded Palestinians.
It is nothing short of a slow-motion genocide that no amount of verbal
assurances can mitigate, let alone stop.

Of course, Bush doesn't and wouldn't pay attention to these real issues. He is
too ignorant, too biased toward Israel and, yes, too unchristian, to call the
spade a spade, especially when it is in the hands of Zionist imperialists.

This is why his claim that Israel wants peace and that Ehud Olmert is sincere
about the quest for peace has no iota of truth.

Let us be frank and honest about this. Israel is not about to make peace with
the Palestinians. Israel has not made a strategic decision to make peace with
the Palestinians. Israel is not about to give up the spoils of the 1967 war.
Israel is not about to give up occupied East Jerusalem.

Indeed, Israel is not about to come to terms with the paramount right of return
for Palestinian refugees, unjustly uprooted from their homes and villages
when the Zionist state was created nearly sixty years ago.

And above all of this, Israel is insisting that it be recognized as an
exclusively Jewish state whereby Israel's non-Jewish citizens (25% of the
population) would be treated not only as lesser citizens with more or less
transient and uncertain status, but actually as children of a lesser God.

So, how can we possibly expect peace with attitudes like these, and with the
outrageous willingness on the part of the West to entertain Israel's racist
whims?

Moreover, it is amply clear that George Bush is not an honest broker. Needless
to say, a dishonest broker can't be a true peace maker, even if he invokes all
the deceptive theatrics he can muster.

Real peace requires true commitment and above all honesty, characteristics
that Bush and his nefarious administration obviously lack.

In truth, the last thing Israel would want to see in the Middle East is a true
peace settlement based on justice, even a semblance of justice. Such an
equitable settlement would be anathema for Zionism, a fascist-minded movement
that is antithetical to peace and calm and stability and human decency.

This is why Israel insists on bilateral negotiations with the weak
Palestinian Authority not out of good will toward its Palestinian neighbors
but rather in order to further bully and blackmail the vulnerable Palestinian
leadership to give more and more and more concessions. Israel simply wants to
be left alone with the Palestinians, its enduring helpless victims. And all
that Bush is doing is to tell the rapist and the victim to sort it out without
any external interference.

  Much like Auschwitz
Israel's regard for Palestinians can be summed up in how it imprisons and
terrorises them, writes Khaled Amayreh in the occupied West Bank

--

A few weeks ahead of the upcoming peace conference in Annapolis, Maryland,
Israel has been displaying its goodwill towards the Palestinians. At the
notorious Kitziot Prison, a real concentration camp minus gas chambers, crack
Israeli soldiers have been ganging up on helpless and fettered Palestinian
prisoners, shooting, beating and humiliating them under largely concocted
pretexts.

On Monday 22 October, in the quiet hours before dawn, hundreds of soldiers
from two notoriously brutal army units, code-named Nachshon and Massada,
stormed the prisoner camp for what was described as a routine inspection.
During these routine inspections, inmates are forced to take off their clothes
and are subject to every imaginable form of humiliation. Whoever protests is
normally placed in open-ended solitary confinement.

Rudely awoken, Kitziot's estimated 1,200 inmates, already fed-up with
draconian punitive measures, decided to resist their tormentors. According to
one prisoner leader, this resistance had not been planned, coming as an
instinctive defensive reflex to obvious provocation.

Some prisoner leaders pleaded with the detention camp's administration to
wait until morning to carry out the impromptu inspection. The administration's
response came in the form of bullets, sonic grenades (which the Israelis call
stun grenades), tear-gas and smoke bombs.

I don't know what a Nazi concentration camp looked like, but I imagine that
Kitziot looked very much like a concentration camp yesterday, said Abu Ahmed,
a detainee from Hebron, who has been languishing at the facility for nine
months without charge or trial.

Abu Ahmed, who was speaking via a smuggled mobile phone, described the
assault on the prisoners as planned and premeditated, calling Israeli claims
that the soldiers were only defending themselves against rioters obscene lies
meant to cover up a criminal act.

The pogrom-like attack on the helpless Kitziot prisoners lasted for more than
two hours as a huge cloud of smoke hovered over the area. When the dust
settled, there were hundreds of prisoners who suffered significant to serious
wounds, mostly in the head and upper body. At least nine inmates were severely
injured, including Mohamed Sati Al-Ashkar, who was hit with a live round in the
head, causing massive brain haemorrhage.

On 23 October, Al-Ashkar was pronounced clinically dead.

As is usual in such circumstances, the Israeli media and government
spokespersons switched to damage-control mode, disseminating disinformation
about what happened while barring reporters access to the notorious facility.

Even serious newspapers like Haaretz played a role parroting army propaganda
that violent clashes took place between the prisoners and guards and that
only non-lethal methods were used to disperse the protesting inmates.

The Israeli army has so far refused to reveal what it was that killed
Al-Ashkar, whether a sonic bomb that hit him on the head, whether he was beaten
with a club, or whether he was hit by plastic-coated bullets. Usually the
Israeli army waits several days before issuing statements on such cases,
seemingly to allow any protest sentiment to die down.

The murder at Kitziot is only a small leitmotif of the ferocious onslaught of
repression being visited on Palestinians in the occupied territories, where
Israeli death squads continue to roam and strike. This happens despite -- or
partly as a result of -- close security coordination between President Mahmoud
Abbas's forces and the Israeli occupation army.

The low-key reaction by the Abbas regime is already raising eyebrows in the
West Bank, with many seeing the Kitziot assault and general terror under
occupation as a means of softening up the Palestinians ahead of Annapolis for
a peace deal that fails to meet minimum Palestinian expectations.

Meanwhile, in the Gaza Strip, Israel continues its slow-motion genocide of
the occupied territory's estimated 1.5 million persecuted inhabitants. Gaza is
being sacrificed, is being decapitated but slowly, while the Arabs are watching
'Babel Hara' and the world is preoccupied with Iran and a peace conference in
America, said one unemployed worker who used to work in construction in
Israel, alluding to a popular Syrian TV series screened during the Holy month
of Ramadan.

Another man, a plasterer, also unemployed because Israel won't allow raw
materials, such as cement, into the Strip, insists on more daring language. I
don't know why the world doesn't call things by their real name. Here the Jews
are starving us to death. Gaza is a large concentration camp. It is very much
like Auschwitz. Yes, there are no gas chambers and crematoria.

Freedom of speech row as talk on Islamic extremists is banned
  By Sean O'Neill John Steele
  March 15, 2007

The University of Leeds was accused of infringing free speech last night when
it cancelled a lecture on Islamic anti-Semitism by a German academic.
Matthias Köntzel arrived at the university yesterday morning to begin a
three-day programme of lectures and seminars, but was told that it had been
called off on security grounds. Dr Köntzel, a political scientist who has
lectured around the world on the antiSemitic ideology of Islamist groups, said
there were concerns that he would be attacked. He said that he was outraged
that his meetings had been cancelled and had yet to receive an explanation.
  ***

  What he wrote

AntiSemitism based on the notion of a Jewish world conspiracy is not rooted
in Islamic tradition but, rather, in European ideological models. The decisive
transfer of this ideology to the Muslim world took place between 1937 and 1945
under the impact of Nazi propaganda . . . Although Islamism is an independent,
antiSemitic, antimodern mass movement, its main early promoters, the Muslim
Brotherhood in Egypt and the Mufti and the Qassamites in Palestine, were
supported financially and ideologically by agencies of the German National
Socialist Government. - Jewish Political Studies Review, spring 2005

  ***

The university, which acted after complaints from Muslim students, denied
that it was interfering with the academic freedom of Dr Köntzel, and said that
proper arrangements for stewarding the meeting had not been made. The lecture,
entitled Hitler's Legacy: Islamic antiSemitism in the Middle East, was
organised by the university's German department and publicised three weeks ago.
A large attendance had been expected. Dr Köntzel, a former adviser to the
German Green Party, said: I have been told that it has had to be cancelled for
security reasons. It seems there were concerns that there could be violence
against my person.
I have lectured in lots of countries on this subject. I gave the same talk
at Yale University recently, and this is the first time I have been invited to
lecture in the UK. Nothing like this has ever happened before – this is
censorship. It is a controversial area but I am accustomed to debate. I value
the integrity of academic debate and I feel that it really is in danger here.
This is a very important subject and if you cannot address it on university
property, then what is a university for? Dr Köntzel, a research associate at
the Vidal Sassoon International Centre for the Study of Antisemitism at the
Hebrew University of Jerusalem, said that he had been shown two e-mails that
had been received, which objected to his lecture.

One, apparently written by a student, said: As a Muslim and an Arab this has
come to me as a great shock. The only intention that you have for doing this is
to increase hatred as I clearly regard it as an open racist attack. Ahmed
Sawalem, president of the university's student Islamic Society, confirmed that
he had contacted the office of Professor Michael Arthur, the Vice-Chancellor,
to register an official complaint. The title of the talk is provocative and I
have searched the internet to read his writings and they are not very
pleasant, Mr Sawalem said. We are not opposed to freedom of expression. We
just sent a complaint, we did not ask for the talk to be cancelled.

The university authorities contacted the German department on Tuesday and
asked for a change in the title. The department agreed to relabel the talk as
The Nazi Legacy: the export of antiSemitism to the Middle East. Yesterday
morning, the head of the German department, Professor Stuart Taberner, was
called to a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor's staff and the head of security.
After the meeting, Dr Köntzel's lecture and workshops were cancelled. Annette
Seidel Arpaci, an academic in the German department, said: This is an academic
talk by a scholar, it is not a political rally. The sudden cancellation is a
sell-out of academic freedom, especially freedom of speech, at the University
of Leeds. A spokes-woman for the university said that it valued freedom of
speech and added that the cancellation of the meeting had been a bureaucratic
issue.

day, including Sunday. Allah subhanahu Watala is not unhearing on Sunday or

Haven't we read that Alla "la Ta'akhuth'ho Sinaton

"He is not taken by slumber or sleep."

And, yes, Qunut, can be recited in the last rak'a

  I wish to know

  What did Prophet (sal) do
at times of any calamities ?
  Why dont you look into
correct approaches in these matters without misleading the

  May I quote one
  incident for your information.
Sahih Al Bukhari Hadith - Narrated
AsimI asked Anas bin Malik about the Qunut. Anas replied,
"Definitely it was (recited)". I asked, "Before bowing or
after it?" Anas replied, "Before bowing." I added, "So and so has
told me that you had informed him that it had been after bowing."
Anas said, "He told an untruth (i.e. "was mistaken,"
according to the Hijazi dialect). Allah's
Apostle recited Qunut after bowing for a period of one month."
Anas added, "The Prophet sent about seventy men (who
knew the Quran by heart) towards the pagans (of Najd) who were
less than they in number and there was a peace treaty between
them and Allah's Apostles (but the Pagans broke the
treaty and killed the seventy men). So Allah's Apostle
recited Qunut for a perio! d of one month asking Allah to
  punish them."abdeen
If you are a Muslim, you
should follow the Sunnah atleast without resorting to your whims and
  fancies.
  All the troulble in this
world is due to our mistaken notions.
  May Allah guide us
  correct.

All Muslims should devote Sunday evening, July 30th for du'a
and prayers that Allah give victory to Mujahideens in Lebanon.
Every Muslim is obligated to make du'a for them. Let us spend part
of that night praying for them and its freedom fighters who are
practicing the best form of jihad against the worst forces of
evil, namely Israel. We all know that Du'a is the strongest weapon
which Allah has given us. It is made easy for all of us in any
language in any form wherever we are. This is why I am calling all
brothers and sisters around the world to spread this message and
to encourage everyone to sit down on Sunday evening and pray in
congregation. Let us pray that Allah grant them speedy victory and
that Allah sustain the mujahideen with extra strength and power to
defeat their enemies and liberate the Blessed land of Palestine.
Every Imam in his ! masjid is recommended to make a special
session of Du'a after `isha prayer on Sunday. I recommend
making du'a, reciting Surat al-Saff, reciting Hizbul Nasr of Imam
Abul hasan al-Shadhili, and reciting Hasbuna Allah-u wani'mal
Wakeel 450 times. May Allah bless you all brothers and sisters and

  For now I ask
that you please pray for Sister Dawn. She had chest pains and shortness of
breath and other bad symptoms. Thank Allah, it wasn't a heart attack or
anything like that. The doctors said it was a very bad reaction to some
medication or maybe combination of medication she was taking for a different
health problem. Although if may not be as serious as we thought it was, she
has been having continuous health problems for the last few years.
Alhamdulillah, it has only cause her to be more generous and helpful toward
  the needy.

  Please pray for her
over the next few weeks as the doctors try to get her system straightened out
and get her on medication which will help her condition. She personally writes
to a lot of group members and just know that she may now answer your letters
  for a while.

  However you are
welcome to write to her directly at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

  I have received some

friends could pray for her mother as well. There is only One God, therefore we
all pray to the same God.

  So I ask that
everyone regardless of your belief please pray for sister dawn as we never
know whose prayer Allah will accept.

  Maqsud, on behalf of

Re: [IslamCity] Refutation of those who try to prove that the Qur'aan is not true

2006-04-04 Thread Khalid Amayreh
I have seen these falsfications back in 1999 and actually got a copy of the
so-called reasearch. Frankly, the author made numerous spurious assmuptions
in this regard. For example, he claimed that Arabic was not a written
language during the Prophet Muhammed. This is of course unture. Arabic was a
written language well before the Prophet. The Mua'alaqat, the epics of
Arabic poetry were posted inside the Ka'aba. Also, the boycott document,
whereby the idolaters of Quraish pledged to boycott the Muslims, was also
posted in the Ka'aba until it was eaten out by roaches and other insects.
Furthermore, it is historically well-known that the Hudaibiya treaty between
the Muslims and Qurayesh was written down on. More to the point, it is well
known that the Prophet wrote letters to the Kings of persia, Egypt and
Byzantize empre , declaring his Prophethood.

Needless to say, the German author bases his entire theiss on the premises
that Arabic was not a written language during the time of the Prophet, a
premises that is absolutely and totally wrong.

Thus that which is based on falsehood is false.

5105: Refutation of those who try to prove that the Qur'aan is not true

 Question:

Recently I became aware of some scholarly research done by German scholars
into the inerrancy of the Quran. Some of their findings are discussed in
an Atlantic Monthly article entitled What Is the Koran? written by Toby
Lester, published in the January 1999 issue of that magazine. The gist of
their research is that some very old fragments of the Quran found in a
mosque in Yemen show small but significant aberrations from the standard
Quranic texts. In some cases, the writing on the fragments found had been
washed off and different writing substituted overtop. The article tries to
cast doubt on the Muslim view of the Quran as being absolutely reliable,
and tries to show instead that it is a literary text that has been subject
to change just like any other.

I am not a Muslim, but I know that the Quran holds a position in Islam
that is similar to that of Christ in Christianity. In view of this, sir,
how would you respond to these attempts to dispute the absolute inerrancy
of the Quran? In your view, do these scholars have false motives that
render their findings untrustworthy? Or do you have another response to
these attacks on the verity of the Quran?.

 Answer:

 Praise be to Allaah.

1 _ The proof that the copies of the Holy Qur'aan that we have before us
is not just one or two pieces of evidence, rather it is proven by a vast
amount of evidence that no fair-minded person can study without becoming
convinced that it is exactly as Allaah revealed it to Muhammad (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him).

2 _ There have been generations coming one after another, reciting the
Book of Allaah and studying it, memorizing it and writing it down. They
have not omitted a single letter, and no one can change even the vowel
 point of a single letter. Writing is just one means of preserving it;
basically it is preserved in their hearts.

3 _ The Qur'aan has not come down to us on its own, such that the
so-called alterations could be made. Rather the interpretation of its
verses, the meanings of its words, the reasons for its revelation, the
grammar of its words and the commentary on its rulings have all been
transmitted. When such care has been given to this Book, how could sinful
hands find a way to distort even one letter of it, or add a word, or take
 away a verse?

4 _ The Qur'aan speaks of matters of the unseen, in the future, which
Allaah revealed to His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah
be upon him) to show him that they came from Allaah. If a human being
wants to write a book, he can describe an event or express a point of
view, but if any human being were to speak about matters of the unseen, in
this field he can only base that on speculation and lies. But the Qur'aan
told of the defeat of the Romans by the Persians, at the time when there
was no means of communication to inform the Arabs of this event. The same
verses also foretold that they (the Persians) would be defeated after a
certain number of years. If what the Qur'aan said was not accurate, then
the kaafirs would have had a great opportunity to criticize the Qur'aan.

5 _ If you read any verse of the Qur'aan, then you go to America or Asia
or the jungles of Africa, or to the deserts of Arabia or any place where
there are Muslims, you will find that all of them have the exact same
verse, memorized by heart or in their books; not a single letter of it
 will have been altered.

 So what

As islamic reformers and progressive muslims, we believe that people
should have legal right to express their opinion or dissent without fear of
governments or mobs. In that regard, we applaud the people of Denmark for not
censoring their media. History has proven that truth and justice cannot
flourish in an environment of suppression and oppression. Though the
cartoonists depicted and insulted our beloved prophet Muhammad, a figure that
we consider dearer to us than our fathers and mothers, we stand by the rights
of cartoonists to express their views.
  Comment:
If Islam is the truth as these people claim then why is it in need of
reform, surely only things which are not valid or correct need reformation?
There is no moderate, progressive, fundamentalist or extremist titles in
Islam, you are either a practicing Muslim or one who is trying their best to
improve their practice of Islam based upon the understanding that we have been
created and put on this world by a creator who will test us in this life and
take our life at a fixed point in time. If these people think that freedom of
speech should be allowed to flourish and not restricted then why are they
offended when Islam is attacked and insulted? This group of people have been
severely influenced by the western culture and are trying to reconcile between
the truth and falsehood hence the contradictory message.
