[IslamCity] Can we do what we want?

2005-05-29 Thread msapublication
Can we do what we want?

Question:

I have some questions about Islam, could you explain them for me? Are all of
man's actions, such as birth, death, his day-to-day behaviour, and all that he
thinks about doing decreed by Allaah? Is our life programmed by Allaah before
we are born? Or do we have freedom of choice and can we decide and do whatever
we want, without that being controlled by Allaah? In brief, do we do whatever
we want or what Allaah has created us to do?.

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah. It should be noted that some of our circumstances are
forced on us, and and we have no choice in it, such as the day when a person is
born, the colour of his skin and eyes, and when he will die. All of these are
matters over which people have no control, rather they happen to them by force.
Given that these are matters in which people have no choice, they do not have
anything to do with Paradise or Hell, torment or blessing.

But some actions are the subject of choice, such as whether to believe or
disbelieve, or worldly matters such as choosing what to eat or drink, and where
to live.

There is nothing of that nature which is entirely outside the will and decree
of Allaah.

But how does that happen?

Belief in al-qadar (the divine will and decree) is one of the pillars of faith.
The Muslim's faith cannot be valid unless he accepts that everything comes from
Allaah. Allaah says ... (Go here for the rest of the answer

[IslamCity] Muslim Brotherhood and the Egyptian regime (http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/2005/744/op21.htm)

2005-05-29 Thread sahannan

Face to face
It is past time for the ruling Egyptian regime to recognise the
popularity and strength of the Muslim Brotherhood, writes Khalil
Al-Anani*

  ELECTION
  2005

The escalating confrontation between the Muslim Brotherhood and the regime is
hardly surprising considering the long-standing mistrust between the two. For
the past five decades or so, both the Brotherhood and the regime have resorted
to various manoeuvres, gimmicks and forms of pressure to get their way. They
both think in terms of a zero-sum game and this is the crux of the ongoing
crisis. Any room for compromise between the two--if any exists--has been
consistently overlooked.
The Brotherhood and the regime are of unequal power. And the way they act
reinforces the impression that the road to democracy is going to be long and
winding. Both believe that "finger-biting" is a good way of settling
differences.
The current situation suggests that both the regime and the Brotherhood
foster exclusion rather than inclusion and believe in defiance rather than
competition. Even at the risk of looking intransigent, the regime does not want
to give credit to the Brotherhood. Many of the regime's supporters still view
the Brotherhood as a "refined" version of violent-leaning groups, refusing to
recognise the obvious differences. When President Mubarak said recently--for the
first time ever--that Brotherhood members have the right to join any political
party as "individuals" but mustn't form their own party, many took this to be
the beginning of rapprochement. But soon afterward, the showdown began, with the
government arresting Brotherhood members and the Brotherhood upping the
ante.
The regime's position on the Muslim Brotherhood is symptomatic of how it
views the entire issue of reform. What the regime wants is choreographed reform,
one that preserves for the regime its aura of invincibility, allows it to call
all the shots and excludes any experimentation or alternate visions. This
version of reform is both rigid and superficial for it overlooks the complexity
of the country's political scene.
The regime underestimates the magnitude of needed reforms. The regime sees
reform as a gift, not an overdue process following decades of political
repression. The regime wants to draw the line for reform, for it sees it not as
a means to an end, but as an end in itself. The regime is demanding
respectability for individuals rather than institutions. Any reform that may
shake the respectability of key figures is something the regime avoids like the
plague.
For instance, the change of one of the Constitution's articles was viewed by
the regime not as a normal procedure, not as routine in a country that is
vibrant and full of aspiration. The regime presented the constitutional change
as a "miracle" worthy of the nation's everlasting gratitude. What the regime has
been trying to do is lower everybody's expectations, so as to stem further--and
more genuine--steps for reform. Easing the way for democracy does not seem to be
high on the regime's agenda. This is why it imposed impossible conditions for
the implementation of amended article 76. For the regime, reform is more of a
ploy than a promise--an action taken in self-defence.
The regime is responsible for much of the current tension with the Muslim
Brotherhood, for it insists that the Brotherhood is a social anomaly that needs
to be extricated. The regime refuses to admit that the Brotherhood is a part of
the fabric of this society, a part that may need to refine its methods but is
entitled to work in the open.
The regime has been willing to treat other forms of opposition leniently, but
it doesn't deign to recognise the Brotherhood, although the latter surpasses
other opposition groups in influence and strength. Such a bearing is
unfortunate. At a time when the country needs to integrate the Brotherhood into
the political process and acknowledge it as a major player, the regime is trying
to belittle its importance and exaggerate its threat to society. Meanwhile, it
is the nation that is being punished, for it is being denied democracy on
account of the perceived peril of the Muslim Brothers.
The regime wants to discount the Brotherhood as a political force by
associating it with violent political groups, but--if recent demonstrations by
the Brotherhood are anything to go by--the tactic has backfired. What the regime
seems to forget is that the domestic and international scene is changing. As
things stand, it is desirable to have the Brotherhood, or any other popular
movement, emerge as a rival to the regime.
Change is more than a Brotherhood demand. It is a demand voiced by all across
the Egyptian political gamut. The regime's slogans of stability, development,
prosperity and superiority have been discredited. Getting along with the
Brotherhood is no longer optional. It is something the regime has to do if

[IslamCity] FOR EVERY ILLNESS THERE IS A CURE

2005-05-29 Thread assalamu_alaikum_1426
Assalamu aleikum.

Note: [TOTM] == Translation of the Meaning

---

For every illness there is a cure
Thursday, 26 May, 2005
http://www.gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no==2item_no=7981version==1template_id=Gparent_id='

FROM the mercy of Allah is that no matter how severe the illness and
pain is, Allah wills healing for his servant, and he makes a helpful
cure and a beneficial remedy easy for him.

It is narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah
(sallallaahu `alaihi wa sallam) said: Allah has not sent down any
disease, except that He also sent down its cure. (Al-Bukhari, Muslim)

However, the cure – with the help of Allah – must be accompanied by
certain matters:

From them is that the person must have good trust in Allah, seek
refuge in Him, and have good thinking concerning Him. Prophet Ibraheem
(`alaihi-s-salaam) declared with strong conviction, And when I am
sick He (Allah) cures me. [TOTM] (26:80)

From those matters that should accompany the cure is the person's use
of ar-Ruqyah (recitations) that have been sanctioned in the Qur'an and
the Sunnah. Allah says, And We send down from the Qur'an that which
is a cure and a mercy for the believers. [TOTM] (17:82)

Therefore, strive – may Allah have mercy upon you – to use prayers for
yourself from the Qur'an and that which has been reported in the
Prophet's (sallallaahu `alaihi wa sallam) Sunnah. This is of the most
beneficial means of removing illness and suffering. Examples of this
are the recitation of Surat Al-Fatihah, Surat Al-Baqarah, Surat
Al-Ikhlaas, Surat Al-Falaq, Surat An-Nas and other Surahs. In fact,
all of the Qur'an is a healing and a mercy.

From the supplications and words of remembrance that have been
reported is a narration from `A'ishah. She said that whenever someone
would complain to the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu `alaihi wa
sallam) of some illness they were suffering, or if they had some wound
or injury, he would do his finger like this (one of the narrators,
Sufyan bin `Uyainah, put his index finger on the ground and then
lifted it). While doing so he would say, With the Name of Allah, the
dust of our land and some of our saliva, our sick are cured by the
leave of our Lord. (Al-Bukhari, Muslim)

It is also narrated from `A'ishah that the Prophet (sallallaahu
`alaihi wa sallam) used to visit some of his family who were ill and
he would wipe his right hand on them while saying, Oh Allah! Lord of
the people! Remove the affliction and grant healing. For You are the
One Who cures and there is no cure except for Your cure. It is a cure
that leaves behind no sickness. (Al-Bukhari, Muslim)

However, these supplications and prayers require a humble heart, true
humility and sincere conviction. They should not be repeated simply
for trial and experimentation.

From those things that are necessary for cure is supplication. In
addition to the supplications and prayers that we have mentioned, it
should be noted that supplicating to Allah and turning to Him contains
great benefits. Actually, the goal and purpose of suffering is that
the servant supplicates and turns to Allah.

You should also seek help through ritual prayer (As-Salah). Allah
says, And seek help (from Allah) with patience and prayer
(As-Salah). [TOTM](2:45)

Whenever the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu `alaihi wa sallam) was
disturbed by some matter he would offer Salah. (Ahmad)

You should also give more charity. It is narrated from Umamah (RA)
that the Prophet (sallallaahu `alaihi wa sallam) said, Treat your
sick by giving charity. (Saheeh Al-Jami' of Al-Albaanee)

You should treat you illness with those things that have been reported
(in the Qur'an and Hadiths) to contain cure. Examples of this are
honey, black seed, Zam Zam water and cupping (blood letting).

You should treat your illness with that which Allah has permitted of
the lawful medicines.

[IslamCity] TREATING THE NEIGHBOURS IN THE BEST WAY

2005-05-29 Thread assalamu_alaikum_1426

Treating the neighbours in the best way
By Dr Muhammad Ali al-Hashimi
Thursday, 26 May, 2005
http://www.gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no==2item_no=7983version==1template_id=Gparent_id='

We realise that the misery that has befallen humanity throughout the
world has occurred because of the swamping of true Islamic principles
by backward, manmade systems, which have brought nothing but misery,
poverty, exploitation, hunger and nakedness to so many.

How great a difference there is between the humane culture of Islam,
which does not let a poor man suffer because of the scent of cooking
from a rich neighbour's house which may aggravate his hunger, and the
materialistic culture which is threatening millions of people with
death from starvation.

The Muslim treats his neighbour in the best way he can

The Muslim who understands the teachings of his religion hastens to
treat his neighbour in the best way he can. Nothing is too
insignifissscant when it comes to respecting his neighbour, as some
ignorant people think – they may think something is too small to be
worth giving as a gift to a neighbour, so they refrain from giving it,
thus depriving themselves and their neighbours of much goodness. This
is something the Prophet (sallallaahu `alaihi wa sallam) pointed out
to women in particular, as many of them may feel too shy to offer a
small gift to a neighbour.

O Muslim women, do not think that any gift is too insignificant to
give to a neighbour, even if it is only a sheep's foot. (Agreed upon)

A sheep's foot is a thing of little value, but it is better than
nothing, and no woman should feel that any gift is not worth giving to
a neighbour. Allah says:

Then shall anyone who has done an atom's weight of good, see it!
[TOTM] (al-Zalzalah 99:7)

And the Prophet (sallallaahu `alaihi wa sallam) said:

Save yourself from the Fire even by giving half a date in charity.
(al-Bukhari)

But this hadith, which is general in application, may also be taken to
mean that the recipient should not look down on the gift. The meaning
then is: No (female) neighbour should scorn the gift given to her by
another (female) neighbour, even if it is it is just a sheep's foot.
Rather, she should thank her for it, because gratitude engenders
friendship among neighbours and encourages mutual support and help.
This is in addition to the fact that thanking people for favours is a
basic Islamic trait which the Prophet (sallallaahu `alaihi wa sallam)
strongly encouraged:

The one who does not give thanks to people does not give thanks to
Allah.

Generosity towards both Muslim and non-Muslim neighbours

The true Muslim does not restrict his good treatment only to
neighbours who are related to him or who are Muslims, but he extends
it to non-Muslim neighbours too, so that the tolerance of Islam may
spread to all people, regardless of their race or religion. The
eminent Sahabi `Abdullah ibn `Amr had a sheep slaughtered and asked
his slave, Did you give some meat to our Jewish neighbour? For I
heard the Prophet (sallallaahu `alaihi wa sallam) say, `Jibril kept on
enjoining the good treatment of neighbours to the extent that I
thought he would include neighbours as heirs.' (Agreed upon)

The People of the Book have lived among Muslims for centuries, knowing
that they, their honour, their wealth and their beliefs are secure,
and enjoiningg good neighbourly relations, good treatment and freedom
of worship. Evidence of this is seen in the continued existence of
their ancient churches, clinging to mountaintops, surrounded by
thousands of Muslims who uphold the well-being of their Jewish and
Christian neighbours in accordance with Qur'anic teachings:

Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for
(your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and
justly with them: for Allah loves those who are just. [TOTM]
(al-Mumtahinah 60:8)

To be continued, insha Allah

[IslamCity] The Minor Signs of the Last Days before Qiyamah

2005-05-29 Thread adil naveed

The Minor Signs of the Last Day by Mohammed Ali Ibn Zubair Ali

Qiyamah will come when...
Hadhrat Abu Musa Ash'ari (R.A.) narrates that Rasulallah (Sallallahu Alayhii Wassallam) said, "Qiyamah will come...

* When it will be regarded as a shame to act on Quranic injunctions. * When untrustworthy people will be regarded as trustworthy and the trustworthy will be regarded as untrustworthy. * When it will be hot in winter (and vice versa). * When the length of days is stretched, i.e. a journey of a few days is covered in a matter of hours. * When orators and lecturers lie openly. * When people dispute over petty issues. * When women with children come displeased on account of them bearing offspring, and barren women remain happy on
account of having no responsibility of offspring. * When oppression, jealousy, and greed become the order of the day. * When people blatantly follow their passions and whims. * When lies prevail over the truth. * When violence, bloodshed and anarchy become common. * When immorality overtakes shamelessness and is perpetrated publicly. * When legislation matters pertaining to Deen is handed over to the worst elements of the Ummat, and if people accept them and are satisfied with their findings, then such persons will not smell the fragrance of
Jannat. * When the offspring become a cause of grief and anger (for their parents).
The following is part of a lengthy Hadith narrated by Hadhrat Abdullah Ibn Mas'ood (R.A.) when he inquired from Rasulallah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wassallam) about the Signs of Qiyamah.

* Music and musical instruments will be found in every home. * People will indulge in homosexuality. * There will be an abundance of illegitimate children. * There will be an abundance of critics, tale-carriers, back- biters and taunters in society. * People will establish ties with strangers and sever relations with their near and dear ones. * Hypocrites will be in control of the affairs of the community and evil, immoral people will be at the helm of business establishments. * The Masjid will be decorated, but the hearts of the
people will be devoid of guidance. * The courtyards of Masjids will be built beautifully and high mimbars (pulpits) will be erected. * Gangsters and evil people will prevail. * Various wines will be consumed excessively.
Auf bin Malik (R.A.) says: I came to Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) while he was in his skin tent during the Tabuk expedition. He said to me, "Count six things before the advent of Qiyamah:

1 My death 2 The conquest of Jerusalem 3 Mass deaths amongst you people, just as when sheep die in large numbers during an epidemic 4 Abundance of wealth to such an extent that if a person were to be given a hundred Dinars he will still not be satisfied 5 General anarchy and bloodshed, that no Arab household will be spared from it 6 Then a life of peace as a result of a peace agreement between you and the Banil Asfaar (Romans) which they will break and attack you with a force consisting of eighty flags and under each flag will be an
army of twelve thousand men." (Hadith: Sahih Bukhari).
IRAQ and SYRIA
Abu Nadhrah says: "We were sitting in the company of Jabir bin Abdullah (R.A.) when he said: 'Soon the people of IRAQ will neither receive any food (grain) nor any money.'" We asked, "Why would such a thing happen?" He replied, "Because of the non-Arabs." (i.e they will prevent food from going into Iraq, in the form of "sanctions" to this day.) He then said: "Soon the people of Shaam (SYRIA) will neither receive any money nor grain." We asked as to why this would happen. He replied: "Because of the Romans (christians)."
CONCEITED PEOPLE:
Hadhrat Abbas (R.A) narrates that Rasulallah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wassallam) has said, "Islam will spread far and wide, across the seas. Horses will cross the land and seas in the cause of Jihaad. Then a time will come wherein a group of people will emerge which recites the Quraan. They will claim,

'We have recited the Quraan and is there anyone who understands the Quraan better than us? There is NO ONE more proficient than us in the study of the Quraan.'
Then Rasulallah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wassallam) asked the Sahaba, "Do you see any good in their claims?" The Sahaba replied, "No". Rasulallah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wassallam) said, "But these conceited claimants will be from my Ummah and will be the fuel of the Fire."

[IslamCity] America's favourite dictator opens the Massacre city

2005-05-29 Thread Shaikh Hyder

Massacre city opens to the world - but where are all the people? From Jeremy Page in Karya Darya, Kyrgyzstan

ON A windswept hillside just over the border from Uzbekistan, Mamlaket waited nervously to be reunited with her husband and four sons.

She had not seen them since they fled the Uzbek city of Andijan, 20 miles (32km) to the west, after security forces shot dead hundreds of anti-government protesters there on Friday.
For four tense days she waited for them, hardly daring to leave her home. Then she heard about the 540 fugitives from Andijan who had made it to a refugee camp across the Kyrgyz border.
Yesterday, when roadblocks around Andijan were finally lifted, she slipped out with four grandchildren and made her way there, changing cars several times.
“There was shooting again last night. Everyone’s sitting at home scared. There are only a few people on the streets,” Mamlaket, 53, said as she waited to be allowed into the camp near the Kyrgyz village of Karya Darya.
“I was waiting for the men to come back. Who is going to take care of us now?” As Uzbekistan’s Government struggles to maintain calm after Friday’s massacre, Kyrgyz officials and aid workers are preparing for a flood of people like Mamlaket escaping Andijan and heading across the border. Kyrgyzstan’s human rights commissioner has said that up to a million people could flee if the crackdown continues.
At the same time, Uzbekistan is pressuring Kyrgyzstan to return the refugees, some of whom it says are convicts released when armed men stormed a prison in Andijan on Friday. And once the Uzbek Government re-establishes control of border towns, it is unlikely to allow any more eyewitnesses of the bloodshed in Andijan to leave.
Foreign diplomats given a three-hour tour of Andijan yesterday complained that they were not allowed to talk to any local people or see the site of the killings. “Can we not see some people?” David Moran, the British Ambassador, complained as the group was deposited back at Andijan airport.
Kyrgyz authorities, by contrast, gave foreign journalists unfettered access to the 540 Uzbek refugees, which included about 100 women and a dozen children. Huddled around 10 canvas tents in a gully overlooking the border, they described the massacre in consistent detail.
Nematjon Akrumov, a 48-year-old carpenter, said that he was addressing the crowd on the square when soldiers opened fire from two trucks and an armoured personnel carrier. “At first we thought they were shooting into the air. Then I saw they were firing on the people with machineguns and sniper rifles. They shot women, they shot children — it didn’t matter,” he said.
His younger brother, Khamidjan Akrumov, 41, was shot through the heart as he ran away, he said. Refugees’ estimates of the death toll varied from 300 to 1,000, but they all angrily rejected the Government’s claim that 169 people were killed, most of them “bandits”.
“We saw with our own eyes — they shot old people, women and children,” Ibadak Sadirova, a 54-year-old housewife who was in the crowd, said. Her nephew, Abdul Boki, 25, was shot dead on the square, she said.
When the shooting finished, a group of 500 to 600 fugitives immediately fled the city, walking for 10 hours until they reached the Kyrgyz border. Uzbek guards there opened fire on them on Saturday morning, killing at least eight people, refugees said.
Avaz, a 30-year-old baker, was shot in the upper arm. “The guards were waiting for us. They shot from all sides. They shot unarmed people,” he said, his arm in a sling.

[IslamCity] Mutazalites (Quranites)

2005-05-29 Thread Abdul Wahid Osman Belal

Mutazilities (Qur'ânites)
The Mu'tazilah are from the Rationalist school of thought and have very many deviations in their methodological principles These people are the Rejecters of the Sunnah, and spring from the works of Ghulaam Ahmad Parweiz and Rashad Khalifa, both of whom were declared apostates, due to their very clear and apparent kufr.
In the time of the tabi`in, in the days of Hasan al-Basri in particular, Wasil ibn `Ata' emerged with his concept of "the station between the two stations." He claimed that a Muslim who commits a major sin is no longer a believer, nor is he a kafir, but that he is in an intermediate station between kufr and Eemaan - that of fisq (transgression) and will remain eternally in Hell. Imam Hasan expelled them from his circle (halaqah), and they isolated themselves near one of the pillars of the mosque. As a result, they became known as "Al-Mu`tazilah", meaning: the Isolated Ones. The Mu`tazilah eventually fragmented into twenty separate sects, each pronouncing kufr on the rest, and whose common ground was an over-emphasis on the use of the mind. They tried to interpret Islam in the light of first-order logic. Their other beliefs included: That it is permissible, lexically, to ascribe creation of deeds to
human beings. That the Qur'ân is created. That the attributes of Allah are not eternal. Interpretation of allegorical verses without exception, so that they denied that the believers will see Allah in the Hereafter.
Although they were a deviant sect, this does not diminish from the value of all of their work, for some of them were accomplished in some branches of Islamic sciences. e.g. Zamakhshari, the author of the renowned exegesis (tafsir) "Al-Kashshaf", was a Mu`tazili, although it has been reported that he repented and joined Ahlus-Sunnah close to his death, as is to be expected for a scholar of his calibre.

Re: [IslamCity] First Veiled Muslim Woman In Swedish TV

2005-05-29 Thread F. Saad

Assalamu alaikum,

Brothers, Sisters,

Firstly, what veil are you talking about?
That sister was not wearing a veil. She was just covering her hair, and I have seen many many non-Muslims wear a head piece like this one.

The veil that Allah has legislated and imposed on the believing woman covers her who head, neck, shoulder and bossom areas as described in suratul nur.

Secondly, it is not an achievement for a Muslim women to become a TV news anchor. To be seen daily on a daily basis by men of all sorts, including the sick minded.
Is this what you would want for your daughter? That all men get the priveledge to stare at her face.
Allah knows what kind of sick society we live in today, and how men think.

In my opinion, this is in fact a step backwards from the advancement the Muslim world was seeing in terms of the return to the deen.

Please reflect upon this, and I ask Allah to guide you and me to a straight path.

Assalamu alaikum

Below is my response to Mr. Tom Newton Dunn, Defence Editor
of The Sun Newspaper, and I have placed his response below mine. Mr Tom Dunn responded to my original
article which can be seen at:

http://www.cdlr.net/English/cdlrboard/showthread.php?s=postid=1777#post1777

To Mr. Tom Newton
Dunn
Defence Editor

The Sun

Thanks for your response. It
came as no surprise that my original article [1] would not get published;
because, The Sun, is the most rabid anti-Islamic tabloid to disseminate
hate-filled propaganda against the Muslim community. One of the real
difficulties of upholding genuine free speech is that you have to publish the
opposing views no matter how painful! It is easy to constantly lecture a
community about their lack of free speech, especially after using it as a
pretext to hurl insults at them and then hypocritically denying them that same free speech to respond.

I would like to bring to your
attention the following points you raised, and hope that may clarify the factual
inaccuracies on both sides. I have addressed them in their order of merit.

A)
Pictures

You claim that publishing the
pictures was in the Public interest, as it sends: very powerful statement of how much
Iraq has changed in the last two
years. I do not understand how showing semi-nude pictures of Saddam
Hussein would reflect the changes in Iraq! Or is that because, your paper
likes to communicate and market itself, in terms of nudity.

If you wanted to show the
changes in Iraq there are plenty of vivid images
within the country. For example, you could have shown the destruction of almost
all the civilian infrastructure by the US bombs, which are now being
contracted out to the American firms (e.g. Bechtel, Halliburton) which the media
calls helping the Iraqis. How about showing in contrast, the Oil ministries
that were never hit by any of the US bombs, a miracle I guess! You also
could have shown how the Americans and British forces surpassed Saddam Hussein
in torturing prisoners in Abu-Ghraib and elsewhere, while they fly the flag of
human rights, Amnesty report today supports
this! But showing such images and reporting on such facts is perhaps,
boring for your readers and challenging for your
journalistic craft and Zionist Rupert would not be pleased with declining sales
revenue.

As for the reason why the
Middle East was unconcerned, a reasonable explanation is that they are demoralised. I
would say they have sufficient cause with so much war, destruction and
humiliation. The same silence was seen after Abu-Ghraib, so would you say
the entire Middle East was not concerned? Hence
silence does not mean approval and I can assure you that there is genuine anger
building up.

The international news
agencies you cite, the vast majority are from the West, even those in the Arab
countries are virtually run and managed by the West by proxy, the only one with
some level independence is Al-Jazeera, which, for its
troubles, is bombed, its journalists harassed and murdered by US troops.

B) Who are the
terrorists?

Please remember that there are
terrorists and there are State Terrorists. Like there are suicide bombers and
mass murderers. The latter deploys the latest high-tech weapons on towns and
cities, schools, colleges, farmers and even their sheeps (John Pilgers
documentary). It is estimated by Johns Hopkins University's, Bloomberg School of
Public Health in Baltimore, that 100,000 or more civilians in Iraq have been
killed by the US and coalition forces. Do you not remember the wanton slaughter
of retreating civilians on the road to Basra in 1991? What about the mass slaughter of civilians
in Fallujah and recently in Al-Qaim? Which the British media deliberately did
not investigate thoroughly, despite reports from doctors and independent
organisations, all confirming heinous crimes against
civilians and the use of the banned chemical weapons. Yes we finally
found those WMDs. Like your ancestor Winston Churchill your American cousins
have used them on those sand-niggers, spreading a lively
terror!

Your laughable reference to
the killings of civilians by the Iraqi resistance is an example of how detached
you are from the reality as you have failed to take
into account the magnitude of the victims from state terrorism (100,000 and
rising), and you know the Iraqi resistance can not compete with your scale of
liberation!

Furthermore, you put the
effect before the cause. Let us remind ourselves of the cause. There were no
bombs falling on Iraqi

  Vanishing lake baffles
  Russians

There have long been rumours about the
lakeResidents of a village in central Russia are trying to solve the
mystery of a lake that disappeared overnight.
Russia's NTV channel showed a huge, muddy basin where the
lake once was, in the village of Bolotnikovo.
"It looks like somebody has pulled the plug
out of a gigantic bath," said the TV's correspondent, next to a deep
  debris-filled hole.
Local officials in Nizhny Novgorod region
say the lake was probably sucked into an underground cave.
The name of the village - which lies about
250 km (155 miles) east of Moscow - roughly translates as
  "boggy".
  No water
The discovery was made by local fishermen
when they arrived at the lake early in the morning.

"I looked and there was no water. I thought: Oh my God,
what's going on?" one of them told the TV.
Rescuers were called out to search the
uncovered lake bed to see if anybody could have been sucked under, but it
is thought no-one was on the lake when the waters vanished.
"It's very dangerous. If somebody is caught
by such a calamity, the chances of survival are practically nil," fireman
Dmitry Zaitsev said, pointing out that lakeside trees appeared to have
been dragged down with the water.
The lake's disappearance may have been
caused by subsidence allowing the water to drain into a cave system or
underground river, local official Dmitry Klyuev said.
According to Mr Klyuev, several houses were
swallowed up in similar circumstances 70 years ago.
  'Dark mystery'
  But more supernatural explanations were
circulating among the villagers, including the influence of dark
  forces.
Village youngsters said the lake had
appeared during the reign of the feared Tsar Ivan the Terrible and had
been "shrouded in dark mystery" ever since.
"We used to go swimming there, but we were
rather afraid of its depth, and there were various rumours. For instance
people said there used to be a church there underwater," one girl told the
  TV.
But one elderly villager sitting outside her
house had another kind of force in mind.
"I thought the Americans had got here," she
  said, laughing.

Monitoring selects and translates news from radio, television, press,
news agencies and the Internet from 150 countries in more than 70
