bq. BTW, do we have any design or plan to split meta for scaling?

There are the pages I linked in response to Gary. They are hanging of the
umbrella issues. The conversations have gone stale -- or probably a better
description is they are put on hold while the procedureV2 stuff is getting
retrofitted into master branch -- and we need to revive the architectural
talks. You fellas used to have a few ideas in this area [~cuijianwei] (smile).

[~stack] Thanks for your comment:). If we decide to undo master hosting meta in
near future, this issue is not a problem IMO, otherwise, we can move jps files
to fix this issue. BTW, do we have any design or plan to split meta for

I also agree that we should revive the scaling discussion on the dev list.
We're getting a bit off topic for this issue.

In my opinion, consistency and availability of meta for master writes make a
pretty strong case. The argument that master is in the write path only applies
because we haven't rolled this completely forward and made master functions
just a special case of the regionserver hosting meta. That seems like the real
endpoint -- the end of master as it's own additional operational process.

Also if we need to split meta for scaling, do we really think we won't also
need to split/distribute master functions for scaling. When looking at hosting
millions of regions, do we really think a single master in the current
incarnation is going to be able to keep up?

bq. I disagree. I think the opposite. We didn't go far enough. This master
hosting meta should be default on for 2.0 and I wish it would have been on for
1.0.

You need to make a case. Needs to address the arguments that have come up in
the past: scaling, splitting-meta. See above cited doc and then this one which
you comment on (and in which you seem to have a particular opinion):
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eCuqf7i2dkWHL0PxcE1HE1nLRQ_tCyXI4JsOB6TAk60/edit#

Looks like we need to revive scaling discussion. It has been underground for a
while now.

Mighty [~ghelmling]

"what's the reason for undoing it? We've been considering it as a solution to
situations where the RS hosting meta has a backed up priority queue and master
cannot complete initialization, or if up and running cannot complete region
reassignments for failed servers."

I'd undo it because as-is it is half-baked so disabling till done and we decide
this is the way we want to indeed go (I'd be against it).

+ Because it puts the master in the write path.
+ Won't work for case where we split meta

[~cuijianwei] It looks like we will undo master hosting meta tables before 2.0
releases. Master hosting system tables was a stopping point while exploring
master-as-regionserver. We went too far. Would it be better for you lot moving
over the region.jsp or should we just fix it now so master can't host meta
