Yea I was just looking into determining if a path is a glob. Looks like
File#toPath() or Paths#get will throw an illegal path exception on Windows but
not on Unix. We can use that to fix the logic in SimplePostTool.
Basically try/catch {Paths.get(args[j])} if valid then do regular
directory/file stuff. Otherwise fallback to glob.
I can work on a patch for that.

The "*" is a reserved character for windows filesystem:

So it is treated as invalid and that is why it fails no matter what you try:

Kevin i took a look at all your logs. This test is very complicated.
I do think its whack that the simple post tool it calls
File.isDirectory/isFile/canRead on a glob, assuming that these methods always
simply returns false (this is not true: they can throw SecurityException and
that is never handled), before falling back and trying to de-glob. I think we
should fix this logic?
The JDK is gonna create a java.io.FilePermission(path) and in this case it
contains * which has special meaning. So maybe it is some crazy behavior due to
that?

also sometimes it helps to run the test with
{{-Dargs="-Djava.security.debug=policy"}} in cases like this, where you think
there may be some issue with the final resulting policy (after expansion and
stuff). It will print what it looks like after the variable substitution and
stuff.

Kevin, maybe the problem is the bogus way that I construct the common-solr.dir
in the junit4 task of lucene/common-build.xml? Maybe, Probably, it does not
work on windows at all. Note: its not related to the common-solr.dir you quoted
from the solr build files.

The weird part about this test is that
C:\Users\vagrant\repos\apache\lucene-solr\solr and subdirs should already have
read permissions:
