[Issue 117370] Check for Updates leads to Update Failed
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=117370 --- Comment #6 from Ariel Constenla-Haile arie...@apache.org --- The original bug report from 2011 is likely to have different roots (the underlying implementation changed from 3.4.0 BETA to 3.4.0 due to an incompatible license in one of the dependencies: after the move to the Apache Software Foundation the neon library was replaced with serf + apr). It doesn't make any sense to test with versions older that 3.4. If Help - Check for updated... is showing the Check for Updates dialogue with Status Checking for an update failed. Description Error reading data from the Internet. Server error message: . Please do the following test: edit a file in INI format located in the program folder, where soffice.exe (Windows) / soffice.sh (*nix) is located: version.ini (Windows) versionrc (Linux/MacOSX) Edit the line with UpdateURL=https://some url here... and change the URL from https:// to http:// After that change, try to Check for Updates once again. If the bug isn't reproducible any longer, then there is an error using secure HTTP. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the issue. You are the assignee for the issue. [Issue 117370] Check for Updates leads to Update Failed
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=117370 --- Comment #7 from Ramona ramona.tr...@altom.ro --- I have followed the steps suggested and edited the version.ini file in the program folder. Checking for updates does no longer return the failure message I have been experiencing. It seems to have been indeed an issue related to using secure http. Thank you for your helpful comments! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the issue. You are the assignee for the issue. You are watching all issue changes.
[Issue 117370] Check for Updates leads to Update Failed
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=117370 --- Comment #8 from Ariel Constenla-Haile arie...@apache.org --- @Ramona : thanks for checking. Your finding might then be the same as described in Bug 126000, confirming that bug happens on Windows XP. This bug 117370 could be closed as obsolete, because a bug in version 3.3.0 has a different root cause, even if the symptom is the same (due to the change of dependencies, neon - serf). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the issue. https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=117370 Cem Kaner ka...@kaner.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||ka...@kaner.com --- Comment #3 from Cem Kaner ka...@kaner.com --- I just spoke in detail with a student in one of my testing courses who worked with this bug. She chose not to add comments to the report because her experience was configuration-specific, but you might find these notes helpful. She attempted to replicate the bug by going to Help and pulling down the check for updates option. On a Win XP machine, she got the message checking for an update failed and also that there was an error reading data from the internet. Server error message: She got a different error message once on a Mac running OS 10.6.8. (error message that the download of the update is not available, which has appeared in other bug reports and been confirmed as a known problem.) This was with OOo 3.4.1 However on OOo 4.0.1, she tested with a Mac and got the same failure with the update server (download not available). She did not see checking for an update failed. She was unable to replicate this at all on a Windows 7 system, OOo 4.1.1 and also with 4.1.0 and with the weekly 4.1.1 build. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the issue.
