You keep changing what this JIRA is about . There are too many JDK 9 issues for 
one. Please change this to match the scope of the PR you opened. After that 
identify another logical change or fix.

It just means you're cross-compiling for Java 8 using Java 9. I don't think 
it's what you intend, so set java.version to 9.

[~srowen]: one thing is very confused, I don't change the java.version in the 
pom.xml, but only change {{$JAVA_HOME}} to jdk9 directory and it seems use jdk9 
to compile and throws exceptions about jdk9.
