Dewey shows us his stoic resignation to the harsh reality of the facts; and
the poor reader either doesn't understand him or is an optimist.

Dewey: -But eventually someone will run across it, wherever it is, and check
it out.
Dewey: -And when they return it, if they ever do, we'll know where it is! At
least temporarily.
Patron: -I'll just wait over here.
TRADUCCIÓN
Dewey nos muestra su estoica resignación ante la cruda realidad de los
hechos; y el pobre lector o no se entera o es un optimista.
Dewey: -Ese libro no está donde se supone que debería estar.
Dewey: -Pero con el tiempo alguien lo encontrará, esté donde esté, y se lo
llevará prestado.
Dewey: -Y cuando lo devuelva, si es que alguna vez lo hace, ¡sabremos dónde
está! Por lo menos temporalmente.
Usuario: -Me esperaré por aquí.
VOCABULARIO
harsh = duro, severo, cruel
run across = encontrar (algo), toparse (con alguien)
to check out = prestar, tomar prestado
Recordemos una vez más que en inglés el subjuntivo se hace con el verbo en
presente (when they return it)
over here = por aquí
over there = por allá, por allí
