I am just starting with Java on linux RH 6.0. I have an Swing application which after initialisin to Motiflookandfeel was run. But the program exits immediately after showing the frame for a fraction of a second. This is also true for the simple AWT frame.I am using JDK1.2prev1 When I was running the program for first time it said link not found to libstdc++-6.0-1.so.2. I search my system and found libstdc++-6.1-1.so.2. so I did the following. touch libstdc++-6.1-1.so.2. mv libstdc++-6.1-1.so.2 libstdc++-6.0-1.so.2 ln libstdc++-6.0-1.so.2 libstdc++-6.1-1.so.2 I do not know if i have done a wild thing, but do we have any work around. HELP: -mx flag.....
hello,
ok i have a program that eats eventually a lot of memory...
now when exectuing on my laptop, reasonable examples do not need any memory
extension of the JVM now i would want to run those benchs on our server,
and there i only get lots of
#Simulator doTran(StringTokenizer st)
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
at jSim.Simulator.doTran(Simulator.java:310)
now i tryed to put this in the command line:
java -green -Djava.compiler=NONE -mx=256m
-Xbootclasspath:"/usr/local/JacORB/classes/jacorb.jar:/usr/local/java/jre/lib/rt.jar:${CLASSPATH}"
"$@"
which gives back :
Bad max heap size: -Xmx=256m
(but it was written this way or nearly in the java-announcment)
now from the error message i made a java-X and tryed:
java -green -Djava.compiler=NONE
-Xbootclasspath:"/usr/local/JacORB/classes/jacorb.jar:/usr/local/java/jre/lib/rt.jar:${CLASSPATH}"
-Xmx256M "$@"
and
java -green -Djava.compiler=NONE
-Xbootclasspath:"/usr/local/JacORB/classes/jacorb.jar:/usr/local/java/jre/lib/rt.jar:${CLASSPATH}"
-Xmx256m "$@"
and there i get the damned
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
at jSim.Simulator.doTran(Simulator.java:310)
errors..
what am i doing wrong?

You should use -mx256m (or -Xmx256m depending on the JDK
version). Note that there is no '='.
You should probably look into why your application is using so much
heap space. Is this expected from the amount of memory you think
your app needs?
Good luck.

Question: JAVA_DEBUG environment variable
Hi, In one of his messages Nathan Meyers mentioned JAVA_DEBUG environment variable which should be set up for debugging. I looked at debugging documentation but could not find any mention about JAVA_DEBUG variable. What kind of value JAVA_DEBUG variable should have? Do I really need it for java debugging? Is it Blackdown JDK specific variable? Thank you, Jacob Nikom -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I looked at debugging > documentation but could not find any mention about JAVA_DEBUG variable. The only "documentation" I know of is in the Java launch script itself. If you look there, with both JDK1.1 and JDK1.2, you'll see that the Java executable is invoked like this: exec $DEBUG_PROG "$prog" "$@" What this means is that if DEBUG_PROG is defined, that program is run and the name of the Java executable ($prog) is passed as the first argument. So if you run: DEBUG_PROG=gdb java -green it'll run the green-threads java executable under the gdb debugger. The IBM JDK1.1.8 launch script contains the same thing, so I suspect this is a general Unix-ism that came from Sun. Re: Question: JAVA_DEBUG environment variable
Look in the src.jar file, under launcher.java.c; it's coded explicitly in there. launcher/java.c is the standard Sun boilerplate for all of the "native" tools in theJDK (javac, java, ...). XML and java on Linux
Hi all, I am kind of a newbie to Linux. Could somebody suggest a good place to learn/read/research developing XML / java applications for Linux? I need to know: Which Linux-browsers support XML? How do I setup Java development environment on Linux? Is jdk1.2.x ported to Linux? Can I use Sun's JVM for runtime? Which IDE would you recommend? I Appreciate any input . Thanks.. Java, threads, and RedHat 6.1
I am trying to create a (p)threaded application on Red Hat 6.1 that uses the Invocation API. Unfortunately, things are not going so well. At first, I downloaded the Blackdown 1.2 pre-v2 distribution, but found I could not link because of glibc incompatibilities as Red Hat 6.1 ships with glibc 2.1.2. Then, I switched over to the 1.1.7 distribution, including the native threads updates, which I can successfully build with but when I try to call JNI_CreateJavaVM, I get a segmentation fault. The stack crawl looks something like: in JNI_CreateJavaVM at jni.c:3924 in sysInitializeJavaVM at javai.c:832 in InitializeClassThread at threadruntime.c:111 in sun_misc_VM_unsuspendSomeThreads at threads.c:87 in sysThreadInitializeSystemThreads at threads_md.c:140 in InitializeFinalizerThread at finalize.c:303 in execute_java_constructor at interpreter.c:153 in EE from libjava.so I am going to try to backtrack and get a reduced case scenario, but I am afraid I don't know enough about Linux or the internals of the Java VM to make real progress. So, I have a couple of questions. 1) Am I correct in that I cannot use the current Blackdown 1.2 on Red Hat 6.1? 2) Since my application is (p)threaded, am I correct that I need a native-thread version of the Java VM? 3) Can I use the Invocation API with version 1.1.7 of the Blackdown VM and native threads? I should mention that I have the same application running correctly on Win32, so I believe that I am using the Invocation API correctly. In particular, I know about attaching threads and so on. In this case, however, I am not even getting that far. If anyone can shed some light on this, I would be very grateful. Tom Otvos Director of Research, Pervasive Software Inc. "Don't think you are.
