Problems of JavaPlugin 1.2.2 with KDE 1.1.2

2000-06-30 Thread Lars Lathan

Hello,

does anybody knows if there are problems of the JavaPlugin 1.2.2 with
the KDE 1.1.2 desktop?

When I start a Java2 applet in the netscape 4.73 navigator on my
linux (Suse 6.0, glibc2.1.2) having KDE 1.1.2 running, netscape quits
without any error message. But running the same applet running fvwm2 all
works fine.

Any ideas? Thanks, Lars.

Java3D

2000-06-30 Thread Andreas Micklei

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to give a status update on my experiences with Java3D and
hardware acceleration:

The problems I had with Java3D obviously resultet in bugs in Utah-GLX, so
Java3D is not really to blame (the behaviour was just a bit confusing). Here
are some of my results:

GFX hardwareOpenGL implementation Result
--
Matrox G400 XFree 3.3.6 / Mesa 3.2 /Works. VERY slow.
Software rendering

Matrox G400 XFree 3.3.6 / Mesa 3.2 /Does not show
Utah-GLX-2626 textures. Crashes
occasionally.
Non-textured rendering
is reasonable fast.

nVidea GForce XFree 3.3.6 / Mesa 3.2 /Same as G400.
Utah-GLX-2626

Matrox G200 XFree 4.0 (includes Mesa 3.3) Black picture. The
/ DRI Framerate is
impressive however.
;-)

Matrox G400 XFree 4.0 (includes Mesa 3.3) Crashes.
/ DRI

Matrox G400 Xi-Graphics Accelerated-X Works. VERY fast.
(Demo version 1.1)
--

So for now the only viable option I know of if Accelerated-X. Using a 3Dfx
board with hardware accelerated Mesa on Glide probably also works, but I have
not tested this. The XFree 4.0 test are not finished yet. A test with the
GForce, as well as using different kernel versions might give other results.

   bye...

can't find libjava.so.

2000-06-30 Thread binyomin segal

(the first attempt at this message seems to have failed - sorry for any
duplication)

hi all,

i am not a linux person (though the more i use it the more i like it) so
please go slowly.

we are working on a cross-platform (mac/win/linux/solaris) java solution.

right now im working on the linux piece - we're using redhat 6.2 and
blackdown java 1.2.2.

the solution interacts with various cds and creates a database on the
users hard drive of info based on those cds.

to get the program working i was using the following shell script:

#!/bin/bash
cd /
cd /usr/local/jre1.2.2/bin
export CLASSPATH=/root/myDirectory:/root/myDirectory/myJar.jar
bash java myApplication

the problem with that shell is that because it leaves the prompt in the
jre/bin directory any reading/writing of files defaults to there.

so i tried the following:

#!/bin/bash
export CLASSPATH=/root/myDirectory:/root/myDirectory/myJar.jar:
   /usr/local/jre1.2.2/bin
export PATH=$CLASSPATH:$PATH
bash java myApplication

this does not work instead i get a "can't find libjava.so." error

any help would be appreciated
please feel free to email me directly at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Starting The JVM from C++

2000-06-30 Thread hrishiraj

Hi,

Can someone please volunteer to send me a small
code that uses C++ to start the JVM. I know that this comes under JNi, but I
have found it difficult to get the solution eventhough I have refered a lot of
books. It will be great if I can get a code which I can use on VC++ also.

Thanks

My System is running with Geforce DDR and XFree 4.0 and the latest NVidia
driver 0.93 pretty good. I'm using the Blackdown Java3D 1.1.3-FCS Release
and it's faster than under Windows! I think 3 times faster.

IMHO, I'd say they are also there to protect security. Encapsulation =
Security.
References to objects can be handed around like, say, referenes to
files. We can give a whole lot of people a handle to a file that
contains, say, our private key or our address book. And that doesn't
(and shouldn't) mean everybody can open it and look at what's in there.

With this bug and given a reference to a graph of objects, it seems once
can traverse and examine the entire graph without any problem, breaking
all encapsulation. Seems easy - just introduce a class that does it.

> course if you hack the jvm you will be able to get access to a private

No need to hack the jvm. A single malicious piece of user code being
executed is enough.

Their "porting plans" page indicates that the full 1.3 release of IBM's JDK

The link I'm seeing is http://www6.software.ibm.com/dl/dklx130/dklx130-p
but that is 404. Is anyone on the list able to find the right location?

That's not really new.
If you follow Sun's recommendation and use the '-Xfuture' switch you
should get an IllegalAccessError on all Java2 VMs.

>From the tool docs:

   -Xfuture

Perform strict class-file format checks. For purposes of
backwards compatibility, the default format checks
performed by the Java 2 SDK's virtual machine are no
stricter than the checks performed by 1.1.x versions of
the JDK software. The -Xfuture flag turns on stricter
class-file format checks that enforce closer conformance
to the class-file format specification. Developers are
encouraged to use this flag when developing new code
because the stricter checks will become the default in
future releases of the Java application launcher.

Desperately looking for documents about compiler internals

2000-06-30 Thread Harald Wagener

Greetings,

for my diploma thesis, I am looking for information about the java
compiler, especially documents regarding the generation of the
abstract syntax tree in javac.

Currently, I am trying to understand the sun source code ("Community
Source" fomr March). Can anybody advise about places in the code so I
can inspect a tree that is built or put it into a file?

Any help is appreciated greatly.
