Subject: Re: Problems with fonts
Amol,
Basically, Java can get fonts either from standard places on your system or form
its own font directory (/usr/java/jdkxxx/jre/lib/fonts). Then in the
font.properties file it associates a vector font with the default font names. The
only font that Sun provides as part of the JDK shipment is Lucida.
As part of a stock RedHat 7.1 distribution, you should have the URW fonts already
installed which can be used for the symbol font. So, therre is no need to go and
get more fonts. The only problem is that the name is incorrect in the
font.properties. This is why I suggested that you run "xlsfonts" on your system in
order to determine the correct name to use. I have attached the amended
"font.properties" file which I use on RedHat 7.1 but with JDK 1.3.1. So I make no
guarantees that this will work with JDK 1.2.2.
