Runtime problems

1999-09-27 Thread Hartnett

Currently I am trying to get JDK 1.1.7 running on my system, but obviously since I am
posting this am having some problems.
I'll try 1.2 after getting 1.1.7 running correctly. How is the 1.2 package anyway?

I've got a fresh install of Red Hat 6.0, I've tried both the i386 glibc and libc5 v1a
versions. I've currently got the libc5 version installed.
I've got my one user account on my system's .bashrc setup with "export DISPLAY=:0" and
"export PATH=/usr/jdk117/bin:$PATH",
which does correctly point to my JAVA location.

When I type in either "jre -help", or "java -help" I get a response of
"/usr/jdk117/bin/../bin/checkVersions: /tmp/ldd.out.858" Permission denied"
, the 858 number does change with each entry of the command.
Then after the above line, I get what appears to be the correct reply showing a
version and then usage line, then a listing of the available switches.
I take this to be on the right track.

I've tried different goes at a script to start a JAVA email client called "JStreet
Mailer" to run using both a jre and java command scripts.
Right now, using either commands, it won't start, I get replies of about Permission
denied, for the classes.zip as well as some files in the JStreet
directory, which is in the user account I created. Before I worried about this I
wanted to aim at the response I am getting to jre or java -help, perhaps if I
get this figured out, perhaps with some help here, the JAVA app will fall into place.

I am really at an end here, I've installed JDK on other platforms, setup start scripts
without any real difficulties before.
In fact, I had previously got the Blackdown package installed on Red Hat 6 and JStreet
running on the previous disk installed in this system, but since
the new disk went in, I've had no luck solving this problem, even after reviewing the
faq many times.

Thanks
Sean

Re: Runtime problems

1999-09-28 Thread Hartnett

Well I installed the glib2.1 version as Riyad had suggested, thanks, jre or java -help
no longer report permission
denied.

I am still getting a permission denied from from the classes.zip, despite changing its
permissions, and the directories
to it, to rwx for all.
I also get this error for a .jar in its own directory.
Obviously there is a permission problem with my system, though I don't know why.
As mentioned, this is a fresh install, not over a previous install, a new disk, and
there seems to be this problem.

I am amazed at this problem on a new install.

Version snag

1999-10-25 Thread Hartnett

Ran into a surprise snag when trying to test an app my company has made that requires
JAVA 2 to install and run.
I was told the program on install would check to make sure the JDK was version 2, just
to make sure I first tried to
install it under 1.1.7 and as told, it refused to install.
I installed pre-release 2 and again installed the software package. This time the
program installed with out a problem
and created its startup scripts right on the nose. However when I went to start the
program it eventually pops up a
window stating that the runtime is not JAVA 2 and shut itself down. I checked with our
developers and they did say it
also will check on program startup.
I am just surprised that the software now states that the pre-release 2 is not JAVA 2,
can anyone make a suggestion as
to why?

Thanks
Sean

Re: Version snag

This same package was installed on Solaris and its runtime and works fine.

This group seems to be quick to jump on someone if it is not JAVA Linux related in
someone's opinion.
I am running Blackdown JAVA 2 on Red Hat Linux 6, that sounds like this group to me. I
don't see what the problem
is?
I thought the idea of this list is to try to help others, not to try to make someone
want not to use these products?

Re: Version snag

I do have a 117 but that is configured under a different user account. As I mentioned
earlier it won't even allow the
install unless it is 1.2. I'll look into things further when I have the chance.

Thanks,
Sean
