[JAWS-Users] jaws is stopping when opening new email messages

2007-03-27 Thread joanne

I've never had Jaws 7 do this before, but lately when reading in Outlook
Express Jaws 7 will stop after I've finished a message and after I've hit
the delete key. In other words, instead of going right on to the next
message and saying who it's from it won't say anything automatically. If I
arrow up or hit insert 2 I can make it read, but it won't automatically say
who the next message is from, and I never had trouble with this until maybe
a couple days ago. I've done one repair and it seemed to work a little
while, but now it's acting up again. Hope someone has suggestions. Thanks.

In that case I've noticed that simply unloading jaws and then restarting it
with a hot key will resolve the problem.

 Try this:

This is the Adobe updater for the Adobe 8 reader.
Download it, unzip it, and run it, and follow the prompts.

 Hi Patricia,

You can access the download blocker, sorry, I forget what that bar is
called, smile, by pressing the hotkey of alt+N.

This should let you access the Internet Explorer information bar.

Oops, just remembered what it's called. LOL.

Downloading and installing adobe reader 8

 Go to the below link:

 http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep3.html?option=fullorder=1type=language=Englishplatform=WinXPSP2esdcanbeused=1esdcanhandle=0hasjavascript=1getsconly=1getgtb=1x=0y=0

Once the website loads, tap the letter X two times to move to the check
 box
that says (free Google Toolbar) and tap the space bar to uncheck it. This
will insure that you don't inadvertently download this annoying Toolbar.

You then need to tap the letter B two times or until you move to the
(download Adobe Reader button) and then tap enter to start the download
process. If you hear a blupey sound, this means that the program is being
blocked and you will need to hold down Alt and tap the letter N. then tap
your applications key, down arrow to install and enter. This will tell
 your
computer that it is OK to download the program.

You then will receive a message asking if you would like to run or save
 this
file. Up-arrow to run and enter. The download process will start. It may
take a few minutes to download. When it is dun, you will be placed on a
install now button, tap enter on this button. You now will be placed on a
next button, tap enter on this button. You now will be placed on another
install button, enter on this button. Now just sit back and let it take
 care
of it's self. When it has finished installing, you will be placed on a
finish button. Just enter on this button to complete the install. Keep in
mind at any time you would like to repeat the last prompt spoken, just use
the JAWS repeat command insert plus tab.

Now you will need to set up the program. The license agreement will pop
 up.
Shift tab back to the except button and tap enter. Now an accessibility
option screen will pop up, tab once to (use recommended settings and skip
setup button) and then tap enter. Now all you need to do is use alt plus
 F4
to close the program and the next time you receive a .PDF file you should
 be
 able to open it.

[JAWS-Users] Re: alphabetizing a folder

2007-03-27 Thread JR and guide dog Iris

Hi Becky you have to do the following:
go in to the folder that you want to alphabeticalise
now go to the view menu
now your looking for an option that says arrange icons by: and you have to
press enter on that or right arrow on that and it will take you to another
list of different ways to arrange your folder
arrow down the list your probably find it's already alphabeticallised the
list but it's done it the other way so you press enter on, Name, if it
already says Name checked, this means knowing you've already found it's in
order but the other way round then pressing enter on Name even if it is
already selected will take you back in to the folder and your find it would
of put it the way you want it with numbers at the top followed by a and so
on.

it's almost the same way to do it with every folder except ZIP folders but I
won't go in to that here

speak to you later

[JAWS-Users] Re: Downloading Adobe Help

2007-03-27 Thread Patricia

I need some clearification regarding this and macro media flash player.
The Adobe is strictly for reading PDF files? The player for listening to
something on a web site..video or music?
Now, is both items bundled together or seperate programs?
Does one need to have one to have the other to work?

Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] Re: Anybody using Google toolbar successfully?

2007-03-27 Thread JR and guide dog Iris

Hi
I personally think tool bars aren't worth the time with us who use screan
readers unless the toolbar is textbased only which unless you customise one
it can't be. I personally have had trouble with Google, yahoo, skype, and a
few other types of tool bars that come over the top of the internet explorer
windows

I suggest removing the thing personally. Also keep an eye out so to speak

 Hi:

Every time I've accidentally installed the thing, it slows my computer
to a crawl. My sighted husband hates it with a passion, and he's pretty
good with computers. I'm no expert by any means, but I'd get rid of it.

 Jeffrey Turner wrote:

believe it's more trouble than it's worth, but I just thought I'd check
 to
see if there are any power-users who have it and like it.

Good stuff Rick. Thank you cousin Rick. I sincerely appreciate the help.

correct?

 Hi John,
The first thing to do is, check the startup folder located under programs
 in
 the start menu.
There may be shortcuts there that can be eliminated.
Next, if these programs are showing up in the system tray, select them one
at a time , and see if you can get a context menu.
This may allow you to change the startup properties of the application.
If no go there, open each application, and look under items such as,
 tools,
 options, settings etc.
If none of these options work, then you will need to use msconfig.
In that case, type the following in the run dialogue:
 msconfig
When msconfig opens, go to the startup tab, and uncheck the items you
 don't
 want to start.
Apply your changes, and close the msconfig, and re-boot the machine.
When the machine re-starts, you will have a dialogue telling you that you
have made changes to your system...
Tab to the checkbox, not to show this dialogue anymore, and then tab to
 okay, and hit enter.
 You are done.

 Hi group.
I have a question which combines both the use of Jaws and Windows XP. It
seems I have a lot of useless junk starting up when I turn on my computer.
Does anyone know a quick and relatively painless way of finding those
programs and relegating them to the use only when require status?
Naturally, I'm going to have to do this with Jaws. I'm sure that there's
 a
way but I can't remember where to go.
You wouldn't believe the junk. I have things like Napster and Real Player
starting when I don't need them for normal operation.
Enough said, I think. Thanks in advance for any help that can be given.

Downloading and installing adobe reader 8

 Go to the below link:

 http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep3.html?option=fullorder=1type=language=Englishplatform=WinXPSP2esdcanbeused=1esdcanhandle=0hasjavascript=1getsconly=1getgtb=1x=0y=0

Once the website loads, tap the letter X two times to move to the check
 box
that says (free Google Toolbar) and tap the space bar to uncheck it.
 This
will insure that you don't inadvertently download this annoying Toolbar.

You then need to tap the letter B two times or until you move to the
(download Adobe Reader button) and then tap enter to start the download
process. If you hear a blupey sound, this means that the program is
 being
blocked and you will need to hold down Alt and tap the letter N. then
 tap
your applications key, down arrow to install and enter.

You now will be placed on
 a
next button, tap enter on this button. You now will be placed on
 another
install button, enter on this button. Now just sit back and let it take
 care
of it's self. When it has finished installing, you will be placed on a
finish button. Just enter on this button to complete the install. Keep
 in
mind at any time you would like to repeat the last prompt spoken, just
 use
the JAWS repeat command insert plus tab.

Now you will need to set up the program. The license agreement will pop
 up.
Shift tab back to the except button and tap enter. Now an accessibility
option screen will pop up, tab once to (use recommended settings and
 skip
setup button) and then tap enter. Now all you need to do is use alt plus
 F4
to close the program and the next time you receive a .PDF file you
 should
 be
 able to open it.

Thanks. But when I did that microsoft internet I think it said
   blocked the
download and I remember there was a way around that if you heard
   the blurb
sound. Also, I remembered the instructions said to uncheck the
google toolbar which I did first and after the download link was
   the rest already
stated and this is what I need to know how to get around that step
to continue in the download and install process..

[JAWS-Users] Re: Google toolbar within IE7.

2007-03-27 Thread Reese

Flor:

Would love to uninstall it. However, wasn't able to locate it within
add/remove items in the control panel.

Another alternative is to uninstall it altogether via add/remove in
 Control
panel. I had it on briefly, but found it got in the way of my Internet
radio listening pleasure, so removed it.

[JAWS-Users] Re: CLEANING UP THE START UP LIST WITH JAWS

2007-03-27 Thread David A Ferrin

If I may jump in here, the answer is yes. Deleting items from the startup
folder is a good start for sure. Everything Rick told you yesterday John is
correct.

Good stuff Rick. Thank you cousin Rick. I sincerely appreciate the help.

If I just delete the items from the Startup folder, that will help. Is
 that
 correct?

I'll take the other things step by step. This thing is moving like a
 drunken turtle.

 Hi John,
The first thing to do is, check the startup folder located under programs
 in
 the start menu.
There may be shortcuts there that can be eliminated.
Next, if these programs are showing up in the system tray, select them
 one
at a time , and see if you can get a context menu.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] CLEANING UP THE START UP LIST WITH JAWS

 Hi group.
I have a question which combines both the use of Jaws and Windows XP. It
seems I have a lot of useless junk starting up when I turn on my
 computer.
Does anyone know a quick and relatively painless way of finding those
programs and relegating them to the use only when require status?
Naturally, I'm going to have to do this with Jaws. I'm sure that there's
 a
way but I can't remember where to go.
You wouldn't believe the junk. I have things like Napster and Real
 Player
starting when I don't need them for normal operation.
Enough said, I think. Thanks in advance for any help that can be given.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Start-Up.

2007-03-27 Thread Jeffrey Shockley

hi,
Did you manually put a shortcut for JAWS in the startup folder or did you
set JAWS to automatically start when Windows starts via the options menu in
JAWS? Just wanted to know so I can better help you solve your problem.

[JAWS-Users] blind users be aware of, DAB, Download excerator

2007-03-27 Thread JR and guide dog Iris

Hi everyone
download exselirator is another program that isn't blind friendly well the
newest version isn't anyway
I've managed about a week ago to install it but when it came to using it it
was a pain, and when I tried to uninstall it the program wouldn't go, I
tried uninstalling it from add/remove programs, uninstall from the programs
start all programs main menu and still it didn't go
in the end I had to format to get rid of it so be aware of it
it goes by the letters, DAB, for those who are using screan readers and it
reads that as one whole word the letters are, D, A, B.
speak to you later
