Since yesterday, every time I try to play a video I get the message that
says, No Winamp window is open. The only thing differently that I know of
that I did was delete JAWS 5.0 and 6.0 from my computer. Does this problem
have anything to do with my deleting the 2 JAWS programs? If so, please
tell me what I need to do and if not, please let me know what the problem
might be.

Thanks,

I've never had Jaws 7 do this before, but lately when reading in Outlook
Express Jaws 7 will stop after I've finished a message and after I've hit
the delete key. In other words, instead of going right on to the next
message and saying who it's from it won't say anything automatically. If
 I
arrow up or hit insert 2 I can make it read, but it won't automatically
 say
who the next message is from, and I never had trouble with this until
 maybe
a couple days ago. I've done one repair and it seemed to work a little
while, but now it's acting up again. Hope someone has suggestions.
 Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Directing Speech to Different Devices -- Was: jaws startup problem

2007-03-30 Thread Bill Gallik

Mark Senk wrote to me off-list with the following comment:
I thought devices meant that synthesizers would be directed to a different
sound card.

Pardon me, I mis-answered your question -- at least it wasn't directly
addressed. However, this is still done via entries in the Synthesizer
section of the JFW.INI file. Perhaps I can best answer your question by
including the two entries I have in my JFW.INI file for the Eloquence
synthesizer, I have Eloquence directed to the default sound card and
likewise to my USB Audio device via two different sets of synthesizer
entries as follows:

Synth2Name=eloq
Synth2LongName=Eloquence for JAWS
Synth2Driver=eloq
Synth3Name=eloqUSB
Synth3LongName=Eloquence via USB for JAWS
Synth3Driver=eloq
Synth3Port=USB Audio Device

NOTES:
SynthName differs in these two entries because that's the value used in the
/s switch when calling JAWS via shortcut (Run JAWS with Eloquence).
SynthLongName could be the same, but that might be confusing when selecting
the Change Synthesizer item from the JAWS Language menu selection.
SynthDriver is the same because regardless of the device, you still must
deploy the eloq driver.
SynthPort is only necessary for the alternative device and this is where you
direct your synthesizer to a specific device.

OK, great. I knew you couldn't use a Braille display with the thumb
drive, but didn't know if there were other limitations to it or not. I
have Jaws on a thumb drive now, but haven't played around with it that
much.
Have you tried the portable version of Thunderbird? If so, how does it

The U3 drive I ordered is a 4 gig drive, so that should be plenty of
space for using various programs on it.

You are welcome. Yes, I believe they can be labeled. It is possible to
label them usingJFW for thumb drives. You can do anything you do with
desktop JFW (including installing scripts) with JFW for thumb drives.
The only thing JFW for thumb drives will not do is you will not be able
to use a braille display with JFW and JFW can not start automatically
when Windows starts. I have used Mozilla Firefox a little bit, and from
what i was able to see (I was only able to look at it for a few

JAWS and all of your settings.

Hi Denny,
I have a U3 smart drive and JAWS will work on it. You have to
download the JAWS for Thumb drives and install it on the drive in the
Removable disk partition. When you insert the drive, an auto run dialog
will pop up and you may have to alt-tab back to it to get focus back to
it. When the dialog comes up, the first item will be JAWS using the
program provided on the device. Then, just press enter and JAWS wil then
start. As far as I can tell, the U3 launch pad is not that accessible;
you have to use the JAWS cursor to be able to use it. Even when you use
the JAWS cursor to click on the buttons (which are not always labeled as
buttons), you can only access some of the launch pad's functions. Other
than that, JAWS works well with a U3 smart drive.
HTH and have a great day!

[JAWS-Users] Re: Running applications

2007-03-30 Thread ANDREW GODWIN

Are you using numpad 1 or number row 1? insert plus the number row 1 toggles
keyboard help on and off.

Thanks, rick,
Insert 1 gives no useful information, only move line and move character.
Don't know why. Don

 Hi Don,
 Insert + F10.
Don't forget about Insert +1, which will toggle keyboard help on, and off.
This will allow you to find Jaws keystrokes.

[JAWS-Users] MSWord autocompleting the date.

2007-03-30 Thread Debbie Bugella

Hi:

A friend of mine states that when she trys to input the date in MSWord
(her own format), word automatically will input eg. March 30, 2007.
She says this happened after she installed a MSUpdate. I can't
duplicate the problem because I don't install every update. Does
anyone know how to turn this off? I know the simple answer would be to
uninstall the update, but for her right now, this would not be
possible. She is using MSOffice 2003. Thanks, Deb.

[JAWS-Users] IE6 Favorites question

2007-03-30 Thread tammy cantrell
Hello,
I have started having some strange behavior from IE6. When I go to a web site
that I want placed in my Favorites list, I use the keystroke control + d to add
the site. Recently I have been getting a message that you have added this site
to your favorites list. Do you want to do this? I have made no changes in
settings. Would anybody have any clues as to how to resolve this behavior? If
it doesn't pop up this message, it creepes up when I am using Outlook Express.
As I am arrowing through my emails, Jaws 7 will read the sender's name and say,
favorites, add. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

2007-03-30 Thread Denny Huff

She could either turn the auto formatting off or, if she doesn't want to do
that, she could change the format of the date that word is inserting to one
of her preference.

[JAWS-Users] Re: IE6 Favorites question

2007-03-30 Thread Flor Lynch

When you installed Skype, as you may have done recently, during installation
did you receive a notification about the Google Toolbar? It would then have
installed by default, unless you had unchecked it at that point. Just a
theory or a hunch, at this stage, awaiting confirmation. But it could be
either the Google toolbar or some other toolbar unwittingly installed that's
causing the problems you experience.

[JAWS-Users] Re: IE6 Favorites question

2007-03-30 Thread JR and guide dog Iris
Hi Tammy, it's John R. here
it could just be an update that microsoft has sent to you that is the most
likely one and another one could be a spy program could be logging your
movements and when you say yes to adding it could be adding to a list of aloud
spyware going out from your computer if your computer is acting slow then find
from the following address a free spyware program I recommend Addware or
Spybott search and destroy.

thanks

  Hello,
I have started having some strange behavior from IE6. When I go to a web

this site to your favorites list. Do you want to do this? I have made no
changes in settings. Would anybody have any clues as to how to resolve this
behavior? If it doesn't pop up this message, it creepes up when I am using

I hope this isn't an update thing. I wouldn't have a clue. I did do updates.
Thanks for the efforts.

[JAWS-Users] Re: IE6 Favorites question

Skype has been installed for over a year.

When you installed Skype, as you may have done recently, during
 installation
did you receive a notification about the Google Toolbar? It would then
 have
installed by default, unless you had unchecked it at that point. Just a
theory or a hunch, at this stage, awaiting confirmation. But it could be
either the Google toolbar or some other toolbar unwittingly installed
 that's
 causing the problems you experience.

Heh heh heh! Ok! Thanks for the efforts. I would like to say that I
 have
never seen any response of any type when I have added sites to my

help you out further. Until then it's possible that one of the 250 plus

David,
I have tried to tab. I have even used the Jaws curser with no luck
locating options. I just got the authorization approval notice when I
 tried
to use Skype. Are there some settings somewhere that I can check on?
 This
 is so strange.
Thanks!

It just sounds like it's giving you a prompt is all so you can be
 sure
that is what you want to do. I bet if you tab over to the OK button
everything will be fine and the site will be added just as before.
