[JAWS-Users] Re: Strange Noises and Sound Cards

2006-12-30 Thread Robert S. Batchelor

Marsha,

Your problem could be as simple as a loose connection either at
your computer or on the back of your speakers themselves. Try taking the
tips of your speaker cables on both ends and twisting them around while
slightly pushing in to the receiving ends of your computer and speakers.

The other problem could be your speakers might be shot! Yes they will play
depending on exactly how they might be damaged. They make some good very
inexpensive speakers today for $49.00 and under.

I once had a similar problem and it turned out to be one of the speaker wire
connections to one speaker was continually being bent down due to me having
them pushed up against my desk's shelving which caused a short in it making
my speakers sound scratchy when being played. I moved the speakers up an
inch and bent the cable wires around and that fixed it.

Hi

  I understand what you are saying about the cleaning of the computer;
however, this is not the problem. When we had a fan which was going bad,
the sound came from the CPU: however, in this case the sound is coming from
the speakers.

I would suggest a good cleaning. It sounds as there is a lot of dust inside
and the fans aren't cooling the system.

Hi
As I have posted before, this crazy computer crashes every so often,
definitely not on a predictable basis. When it does this there are some
awful sounds that come out of the speakers. When it crashes, the error
message says that Windows has shut down to prevent damage to system. Dell
has no idea what the problem could be. They want to reinstall Windows.
This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I thought it might be a Jaws

issue,

so I talked to Freedom Scientific yesterday. The tech was sure it was the
sound card. When I talked to Dell, they said they would replace the sound
card (aparently to appease me). Sometimes before the crash, the computer
speakers start making strange noises, such as a 2 second Donald Duck
episode, or just strange random noises. Does anyone have any ideas? BTW,

I

thought if a tech person saw the error message which comes up after the
crash, they would have a pretty good idea what the problem was. If this
isn't the case, how do these error messages help? Please, any help would

be

appreciated.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Strange Noises and Sound Cards

2006-12-29 Thread rj

It is easy once some one shows you how. Or tells you how. First get a couple
cans of compress air at your local computer store. I got mine at Best buy the
last time. First I usually take a sweeper and use the fine brush attachment and
run it over the interior of the computer after removing the cover. Than take
off the shroud that cover the processor. It is important when blowing out this
area, you hold the fans so they don't move and blow the air in spurts. If this
isn't done, I been told one could burn out the fan bearing. Mine has three
fans. Two facing the back of the computer case and one facing the top of the
case. Hope this helps.
