[JAWS-Users] Re: Unlabeling Graphics

2007-01-23 Thread Jeremiah Z. Rogers

Hi Devona, and hope this answer still has some relevance to you. It is often
very possible for blind folks to label graphics in new or poorly coded
applications. Often, clicking on graphics in a new program will cause the
program to take some action, and based on that action one can create a label
for that graphic to specify what it does. Similarly, sometimes a graphic is
aligned vertically or horizontally with text which denotes its function. One
can label that graphic and make navigation more logical and efficient. And,
lastly, with many newer programs, graphics often include popup help when
sighted users roll their mice over the graphics. This help gives them some
idea of what might happen when they click that graphic. It is, at least in
part, this text which Freedom Scientific uses to deliver the autolabel
graphics function (control+insert+g). Hope this answered your question.

1. Open the Configuration Manager by pressing INSERT+6. Note that's 6 on
the

number row, not F6 or 6 on the NumPad.
2. Press CTRL+SHIFT+D to load the default configuration file.
3. Press ALT+S to open the Settings menu.
4. Press the letter G to open the Graphics settings.
5. I think that in 6.2, the setting you want is the first item on the
dialog
that will open. You want to set the mode to announce only labeled
graphics.

The default is to announce All graphics.

can go to unlabel graphics, so that I don't hear, "Graphic" constantly? I
have searched in different places, but cannot yet find that setting.
Thanks very much

Go to the configuration manager. Load the default and then go to settings,
and then to graphics.
Tab several times to graphics, all and up arrow to label or none.
