Let's see if the access to your sound card is in the system tray.

If you press JawsKey + F11 it should open the system tray. Jaws should
 say:

Select a system tray icon dialog List view

Arrow down this list you should hear a few items. Volume should be among
them. There are other ways if it is not in the system tray but let's start
 there.

You can leave this dialog by pressing the ESCape key.

Let me know what you find.

Not necessarily, it depends on what is the default set-up. Personally
 I
 turn
all that stuff off so I can select what action I want the CD player
 to
perform. Sometimes all I want to do is identify what is on the CD not
 begin
an automatic install of some or other product or to automatically

The default though is usually to begin playing with what ever

Does the CD drive spin up when you mount the disk? does it then
automatically load Windows Media Player or Real Player? What happens
 when
you view the list of files on the drive and select and click on one?

I have a Dell PC with XP home and JAWS 9.0
I can't get my CD player to work.
I can listen to an audio CD on a separate player, but when I try to
 listen
to the same CD on my PC, it doesn't seem to work.
I'll put it in to the appropriate drawer and the appropriate drive

I'll try this on various tracks but get no sound.
I have tried going to the Windows MP3 player but this doesn't help

 Any thoughts?

Another question; After I put a CD in to the drawer, and the E drive comes

I assume I would not have to do this.

 Hello,

If you are using windows Media Player for playing your CD, it also has a
mute button. you might check to make sure it isn't checked. When in
Windows Media Player press Alt-P to bring up the play menu. Use up arrow
a
couple of times and press enter on the volume menu choice. Use down arrow
and find out if the mute choice is checked. If so then press enter to
remove the checkmark. If function key 7 was accidentally pushed while
playing an audio file in Windows Media Player then the program might have
 been muted.

If you are using a different program than Windows Media Player then also
check the program to see if there is a mute button in the menu with the
controls that might have been pressed.

 Take care.

It should be a good thing. Is the mute checkbox unchecked? I am not sure
but
possibly the WAV volume and enabled disabled box should also be unchecked.

After that if it doesn't work then it must be something in your media
player
and I have no knowledge of that really.

I am surprised though with all the audiophiles on this list someone else
isn't able to help you out.

Re: [JAWS-Users] access for Remote Desktop question

2008-07-29 Thread ANDREW GODWIN
Thanks Aiden, and below is a bit of info for those of you that may have been
following this thread.

Overview of JAWS Remote Access
Remote access software, like Citrix Program Neighborhood and Remote Desktop
Connection, allows you to establish a connection from your computer (called
the client) to another computer (called the server). Once connected, you
can run programs and view files just as if you were sitting at the server's
keyboard. The server handles all processing and data storage tasks. The
client computer acts as an intermediary between you and the server, relaying
your commands and displaying the results.

Visually, users see a graphical representation of the server's desktop on
their client computer. However, the version of JAWS installed on the client
cannot read or interact with this image. With JAWS remote access, you
install a version of JAWS on the server to provide speech and braille access
to programs you use while in a terminal session. The version of JAWS
installed on the server sends the output to the client through a virtual
channel. The version of JAWS installed on the client computer then relays
this output to the user through a synthesizer and/or braille display.

The Remote Access feature is only available for licenses of JAWS
Professional that use Internet License Manager (ILM) or Dongle
authorization. The Remote Access feature must be purchased separately.
Contact Freedom Scientific Sales for more information.

Note: You cannot use the thumb drive version of JAWS in terminal sessions.
You must actually install a full non-thumb drive version of JAWS on the
Client prior to attempting a terminal or remote session.

Re: [JAWS-Users] audio CD

2008-07-29 Thread Brian Lee
Hi Rich,

My suggestion was that you check the mute choice in Windows Media Player
itself. However, by the information you gave in your last message it sounds
like you are just being presented with a list of tracks. If that is the
case then your autoplay choice is for viewing the files on the disk instead
of having the CD start automatically. Again, if Windows Media Player starts
when you put in the CD then go under the Play menu with Alt-P, arrow up to
the volume menu and press enter, and then use down arrow to move to the
mute choice. If it is checked then use the enter key to remove the
checkmark. This mute is specific to Windows Media Player.

If you are being taken to a list of the audio files when you insert the CD
instead of having the CD automatically start playing then you can change the
autoplay actions. If I remember correctly, you are using Windows XP. If so
then here is how you can change the autoplay functions:

1. Put the CD in the drive.
2. Press Windows key with E to bring up Windows Explorer.
3. Move to the drive with the CD in it by pressing the first letter of the
drive's name or by using the down arrow key until you get to it.
4. Press the application key to bring up a context menu and use up arrow
key to move to the properties choice. Press enter on the choice.
5. Use CTRL with tab until you get into the autoplay page.
6. In this page of the dialog you will have a list from which you pick the
type of content you want to specify an automatic action to apply to, and you
will have another list for choosing the action for that type of content.
Use up and down arrow keys in the list where you pick music CD, and then
press the tab to move to the actions list. Use up or down arrow keys in the
list of actions to set the one you want for the content type you chose.
7. If I remember correctly then there will also be a group of radio buttons
to choose whether or not your choices happen each time you do the specific
action or if the computer should prompt you each time.
8. use tab key to move to the apply button after you have made your
choices. Press spacebar on the apply button and then use tab key to move to
the button for closing the dialog. (I am not at a XP system right now, but
the button for closing the dialog will either be a close button or an OK
button).

Vista handles autoplay differently. You can simply type autoplay without
quotes in the edit box on the start menu and press enter on the autoplay
choice. You will immediately be taken to where you can pick the default
action for any content type.

It should be a good thing. Is the mute checkbox unchecked? I am not sure
 but
possibly the WAV volume and enabled disabled box should also be
 unchecked.

After that if it doesn't work then it must be something in your media
 player
and I have no knowledge of that really.

I am surprised though with all the audiophiles on this list someone else
isn't able to help you out.

I went to the volume control in my system tray.
I tabbed to CD audio and the volume slider was at 100%. Other volumes
 were
  at 50%.
  I assume 100% is a good thing?

  Thanks.

Let's see if the access to your sound card is in the system tray.

If you press JawsKey + F11 it should open the system tray. Jaws should
  say:

Select a system tray icon dialog List view

Arrow down this list you should hear a few items. Volume should be
 among
them. There are other ways if it is not in the system tray but let's
 start
  there.

You can leave this dialog by pressing the ESCape key.

Let me know what you find.

Re: [JAWS-Users] access for Remote Desktop question

2008-07-29 Thread aiden gardiner
Hi arianna,

Remote desktop works pretty well with jaws, although you do need it
installed on both ends, the client computer, the one your using to connect,
and the server, the machine you are connecting too. You do need the extra
allowance on your authorisation to get it to work though, and you don't need
an authourised copy of jaws on the server machine.

Hope this helps,

Aiden

Dear All,

Sometimes placemarkers seem to disappear for me- hence the following
questions for anyone who has an idea:

1) Does it affect placemarker retention if the page has been saved as a
favorite?

2) If so, do you need to make your place marker before adding the page as a
favorite?

3) Is there a right or wrong way to place temporary placemarkers on multiple
pages on the same web site?

I have had these issues with disappearing placemarkers for a long while and
was reading the information from the patent suit below to try to learn
something more about how they work. Thanks for any help.

The temporary Placemarker is maintained as long as the user remains upon the
current page. Hence, the algorithm advances to decision block 24 where it is
determined whether the user is still on the same page. If the user has moved
to another page, the algorithm transfers to functional block 25 where the
temporary Placemarker is removed from the previous document page. The
algorithm continues to functional block 26 where the Temporary name is
deleted from the list of Placemarker names. Once deleted, the temporary
Placemarker will not be present should the user return to the previously
viewed page of the document. The algorithm then ends by passing through exit
block 27. If, in decision block 24, the algorithm determines that the user
is still on the same page, the algorithm transfers to decision block 28.

In decision block 28, the algorithm determines whether the user has
depressed the CTRL and K keys a second time. If the user has depressed the
CTRL and K keys a second time, the algorithm transfers to functional block
29 and moves the temporary Placemarker to the current location of the
Virtual PC Cursor. The algorithm then returns to decision block 24 to again
check as to whether the user is still on the same page of the document. If,
in decision block 28, the user has not depressed the CTRL and K keys a
second time, the algorithm simply returns to decision block 24 to again
check as to whether the user is still on the same page of the document. As
long as the user remains on the same page, the temporary Placemarker will
again be moved to the current location of the Virtual PC Cursor each
subsequent time the CTRL and K keys are depressed.

Re: [JAWS-Users] audio CD

2008-07-29 Thread Dale Leavens
Try this:

Put your CD into the drive, when the list of files comes up select one by
pressing spacebar then go to the file menu either the ALT key or ALT-F.
Arrow down to Open With and press enter on that. You will get a list of
options, your media player may be among them, if not then one selection will
be to select a programme or something like that. You should be able to
select the player of your choice there.

Another option is to open my Computer and arrow down to the CD Drive.

Go to the file menu or right click on it and then select Properties. You
should be able to select AutoPlay from there if memory serves.

Hope this helps.

When I went to the system tray in checked on the volumes, I tabbed through
all of the choices and none of the mutes were checked. Meaning that the
 mute
 was off.
Another question; After I put a CD in to the drawer, and the E drive comes
with a list of tracks, do I need to open Windows media player.
I assume I would not have to do this.

 Thanks.

 Hello,

If you are using windows Media Player for playing your CD, it also has a
mute button. you might check to make sure it isn't checked. When in
Windows Media Player press Alt-P to bring up the play menu. Use up arrow
 a
couple of times and press enter on the volume menu choice. Use down
 arrow
and find out if the mute choice is checked.

 Take care.

I went to the volume control in my system tray.
I tabbed to CD audio and the volume slider was at 100%. Other volumes
 were

  I assume 100% is a good thing?

Let's see if the access to your sound card is in the system tray.

If you press JawsKey + F11 it should open the system tray. Jaws should
  say:

Select a system tray icon dialog List view

Arrow down this list you should hear a few items. Volume should be
 among
them. There are other ways if it is not in the system tray but let's
 start
  there.

You can leave this dialog by pressing the ESCape key.

Let me know what you find.

Well if you are seeing the list of files on the CD at least we know
  that
  the
  CD is being read.

Now what about your sound settings? Is the CD mute unchecked and is
  there
  volume?

Not necessarily, it depends on what is the default set-up.
 Personally
  I
  turn
all that stuff off so I can select what action I want the CD

 not
  begin
an automatic install of some or other product or to automatically

The default though is usually to begin playing with what ever
