Hi Carliss. Yes, you are correct, the latest version of avast is useable with jaws. there are still a few minor bugs for them to fix such as the labels on the edit boxes when registering, but at least they're working on them! Re: [JAWS-Users] LAPTOP KEYS WITH JAWS
This is one of many situations where using the expression JAWS key may not be helpful. I think it is preferable to call keys by their standard names. If you are using JAWS in its laptop configuration, the so called JAWS key is actually the CAPS LOCK key, and I think it would be more helpful to use that description. Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
This is an example of it's use. A vestige of a previous attempt to install a program was interfering with subsequent attempts to install an update for that program. In effect, I couldn't go forwards or backwards. I couldn't uninstall the previous version of the program because it wasn't showing in my programs list. When I ran the cleanup tool, I could see the installer in the list and was able to delete it. Then I was able to install the update. [JAWS-Users] Facebook with JAWS
Hi listers, Is there anyway to have access to facebook with usability at the same time? When I use facebook with internet explorer 8 and with JAWS 10, my netbook freezes to the point that I need to restart my computer. However I notice that using firefox makes it a little faster and I seldom encounter the freezing of my machine. But I still have some problems such as the difficulty with writing in edit fields to write a comment or set a status because more often than not, the edit box takes too long to appear or does not appear at all. I have been using the mobile site to communicate with my friends and AIM 7.2 to use the chat, but I just wonder if there is any add on that I can incorporate with IE or firefox to make my facebooking more enjoyable in their main site itself. Re: [JAWS-Users] LAPTOP KEYS WITH JAWS
Hi Andy, I understand where you are coming from, but users should familiarize themselves with the specific keys labeled by their screen-reader. Many times we confuse ourselves, by not reading the documentation provided with the product, and then listening to terms that are used inter-changeably by different people. Just my opinion. Re: [JAWS-Users] Computer advice.
I don't mean to be mean or anything, but were you looking at the same computer I was? If I'm not mistaken, the information said that the computer had a 320 GB hard drive, unless I read it incorrectly. It also had 2 GB of RAM. This computer is going to be running Windows 7 64 bit edition, with an NVDIA Video card. The least you want to get in that case is at least 4 Gigs of RAM, and the hard drive should be at least 500 gigs. If you're paying more than 250 for that computer, I'm afraid you're getting ripped off. Computer with a lot more than that are selling for 350 and 450 dollars without a monitor, which, if you're blind, should not need one, so the monitor should be a luxury, and besides, you can pick up a good monitor for 765 dollars, flat screen and all. In any case, when shopping for a computer, don't settle for the computer that seems to be the best price out there, because, like a car, the price tag might be great, but what's under the hood may not be. Re: [JAWS-Users] Computer advice.
$765 for a monitor? Do you live in the USA, because I can get the highest end model for around $300 and that is for a 20 inch. The only one I have seen at that price is built for Mac's. By the way does a blind person need such monitor power? Would a adverage flat screen monitor do? Now as far as the ram. I have always said the more the better, but if you can only get so much then that is what you work with. Never let your computer leave you penny less. And now the harddrive, it can be any size desired. Have seen windows7 on as low as a 250 gig drive do very well and even a 64 gig ssd. So that part is user choice.
Ok, here is the questions. 1. Is there problems with current computer? If no problems why change out side of the fact it runs the newest op? 2. Is all you need is storage space? A external USB drive can help there. At 07:18 PM 6/25/2010, you wrote: Hello all, I know this might be a little off topic but I need your help. The current computer that I have was purchased in 2002 and everything still is currently loaded on it, and I can't remember the name but I know it's a 32 bit. All I'm purchasing is the PC, no screen, and no speakers so another words the tower part that stores all of the information. I'll paste the name of the new computer at the end of this message. I need to know if this new computer will have enough memory for Jaws version 11, Kurzweil 1000 version 11, MS word 2003, all of my microsoft word documents (I have about 40 of them maybe more, my talking checkbook program, PC suite latest version, internet explorer 8, outlook express version 6.00, 250 folders in outlook express because when I get e-mail from people I save it in the person's folder, talking CD\DVD creator program, about 28 folders on my C drive. In my music folder I have four folders. Mark Chesnutt's folder currently has 18 CDS' in it and soon I will be adding his Outlaw CD (which was released June 22 for those of you that are interested in purchasing it). Then I have a misolaneous folder with about three CDS' in it, a George Jones folder which has two CDS' and another folder if I remember it's George Strait and it has a couple CDS' in it. So another words I don't want to have to keep having to buy a new computer every 8 years when I add music, more MS word documents, kurzweil 1000 documentation, e-mail folders, or my third concert and more concerts after that in my concerts folder. Now here is the information about the computer. Thank you very much in advance for all of your help. Have a great rest of the day. When I saw the price of the monitor I thought it must be a typo. At 05:51 PM 6/25/2010, you wrote: $765 for a monitor? Do you live in the USA, because I can get the highest end model for around $300 and that is for a 20 inch. The only one I have seen at that price is built for Mac's. Re: [JAWS-Users] Computer advice.
Hi Tim, Yes, the 765 was a typo, and I meant to say 75 dollars. I've seen Acers go for around 85, and as low as 75 from places like Buy.com, Tiger Direct and places like that. I know that people's first inclination is to get a monitor when they buy a computer, but when people like us get monitors that are huge or something like that, it just boggles my mind, especially since we, as Jaws users, don't use the monitor in the least. Granted, I do advise getting a monitor, even if it's a 13 inch for sighted diagnosis of any problems that we can't fix on our own, in lieu of taking it in for repair, but like I said, you can usually get those for practically nothing these days. [JAWS-Users] problem with windows live mail.
Hi all, Almost every time I read an email, using jaws 11.1447, the first sentence of that email is repeated. This gets annoying. I just submitted a note to FS about this, and was wondering, if any of you have the same problem. If so, Write FS and tell them. I am using windows 7, on a 64 bit machine, with jaws 11.1447.
