Re: [JAWS-Users] changing the volume of Jaws independently

2010-10-30 Thread Rick Justice

Hi Sherri,
You can't change the volume of Jaws independently,
however, you can change the volume of Winamp.
In Winamp, use the up and down arrow keys to control the volume.

Sorry, no there isn't, XP is one of those opperating systems that don't
allow indevidual volume changes such as what your talking about, although
Vista and 7 has that ability via the system tray.

I really feel I should know this and I even looked in Jaws help, but can't
find out how to accomplish this. I am running JFW10 with Windows XP and
Eloquence. Is it possible for me to change the volume of Jaws and leave the
other items I am running, say Winamp, the same volume. If I have Winamp set

[JAWS-Users] jaws accessible pdf to epub converter

2010-10-30 Thread CrisMunoz54
Hello list,

Does anyone know of any reasonably accessible pdf to ePub conversion
application out there? I've got some pdf's that I'd like to convert to this
format to read, but I'm not sure what to exactly look for and poking around
the internet, there seems to be a few choices, but again, I'm not exactly
sure as to the accessibility of any of these options. I just thought I'd ask
around to see if anyone's already had success doing this with Jaws. Freeware
is preferred, but even a program that may cost something is fine.

Thanks.

spell-check but more importantly: I have unsubbed from some groups and
want to remove them from my message rules but can no longer work out how

I looked on the web and can’t really understand the instruction: it seems
you can do something to put it back as it was when you could go to tools
and arrow up to message rules.

I do hope someone clever out there has figured it out

To get into the page set up menu, use Alt, p
Then you can tab through the various options, and when you listen, JAWS
will

tell you the key combination, if there is one.
For example, if I choose
Alt, P
Then, O
I will be in the page orientation menu
If I choose Alt P,
Then, S, Z I will be in the paper size menu
If I choose Alt P,
Then M
I will be in the margins menu
If I choose Alt P,
Then, B
I will be in the page and column break menu.
I have learned how to use the ribbon menus and am comfortable with them.
It's just a learning process, and you will soon learn the commands that
you

Mandy,

I couldn't agree with you more. I can't stand! the new 2011 version of
windows Live. I can't even figure it out! I got signed in, god knows how,
but past that, for frickin, get it!

I'm uploading something right now to my sendspace max account, but as soon
as it's done, which will be very very soon, I'll upload the old wlm
installer. this way if anyone is having issues finding it, still, online,
you can uninstall 2011, and put this back on. Main thing then is, just
don't update to 2011 if windows update tells you to do so. I'd even for
now, go as faras to say hide the update from showing again.

Either FS is gonna have to really do some acrobatics to make this work, or
else MS is gonna have to really get their hinies together and come up with
something more usable. I'm not! being forced to update to this, especially
when it doesn't work yet. If MS tries that stunt as they usually lamentably
do, hell! I'll go to Miranda, if I must, or go to Pidgin on my Linux box.
There are alternatives, I just don't prefer 'em, unless a last resort.

[JAWS-Users] Two Questions about Word 2007

2010-10-30 Thread Chris Gilland
Hey guies, I have two questions about word o7, and hoped that one of you all
could try to give me some elementary explaination.

I'm quite computer savvy, but admitedly, I didn't go to college for very
long before quitting due to medical reasons which I won't go into. I thus
never really learned the true power and flaxability of word of any! version,
really for that mind.

So here is my first question:

I'm having some trouble comprehending the difference in a foot note, verses
an end! note. I know foot notes go at the end of a page, essentially, and I
also know you gotta be really careful with your line spacing, as if you
don't pay real close attention, you can wind up with part of your foot notes
on one page, then running over onto the next page, which of course, we
definitely! don't want.

I also understand that end notes are numbered, just like foot notes are,
however, go at the end of the entire document. I guess, guies, where I'm
getting confused, is more the context of when you'd use a foot note, vs.
when I'd want instead, to use an end note.

Can you all give me a scenario of both, by saying for instance: OK, Chris,
say you was writing a document about x y and zed. You know, just kind a
break down for me the difference by real life examples.

My second question of the two is: I was listenning earlier to Kathy Anne
Mirtha's Office 2007 tutorial. In section 022: Creating a Table of
contents, she discusses using the table of contents auto1 option. So
Escentially, here is what I did:

I opened a new word Document. At the top of the file I hit alt+ctrl+1 to
make the current line of text at the insertion point be heading level 1.

I then typed Blind Travel

I then hit enter to go to a new line and end the heading level 1.

Next, I hit alt+ctrl+2, to create a heading level 2, as I'm doing a sub
heading under the first heading.

Now I typed: Using a Cane, then hit enter to end the heading.

Then I did alt+ctrl+3, for a level 3 heading.

I typed Choosing the Correct Length, then hit enter.

I then made another heading level 3, and wrote: Deciding between folding
and non-folding

Then for another heading level 3, I said: Agencies to get a Cane

Now, I went back to heading level 2, with alt+ctrl+2, and typed:

Guidedogs

Then I put all the following in level 3's:

Deciding your choice of School

List of Guidedog schools

Different Breeds of Guidedogs

Once all this was done, I made a blank line, then below then placed my
cursor at the end of the file. I went up in my ribbon and insertted the
table of Contents. I did like the tutorial said, and chose table of
contents auto1.

The contents was created very nicely, with links to each section, however,
upon numberring each section, it labeled all the sections as: 1.

IE: Blind Travel: 1
Using a Cane: 1

Choosing folding or non-folding: 1.

See what I mean? Everything's coming out to section 1.

Shouldn't it look more like:

Blind Travel

Using a Cane: 1
Folding or non-folding: 1.1

etc. etc?

I just don't get why it's not proprerly numbering the sections.

I'd love some insite on both these things, if someone can help.

Thanks, and god bless.

Chris.

Hi
Try this
Interacting with Forms
JAWS lets you easily work with forms on the Web. When you move into a form
control, you can simply type in edit fields or select items in combo boxes
and check boxes. This is known as Auto Forms Mode and is on by default. If
you would like to have more control over a form, you can turn off Auto Forms
Mode by pressing INSERT+V and then toggling off the Auto Forms Mode option.
To manually control a form, press F to move to the next form control on the
page. Press ENTER to enter Forms Mode. Press the TAB key to move between
form controls while in Forms Mode. Type in edit fields, select check boxes,
and select items from lists and combo boxes. Press NUM PAD PLUS to exit
Forms Mode.
If you like, you can set Auto Forms Mode on or off based on the Web pages
that you visit. Use Personalized Settings (INSERT+SHIFT+V) and toggle this

Re: [JAWS-Users] changing the volume of Jaws independently

2010-10-30 Thread David Ferrin
If jaws is on it's own sound card during a Skype call for example then
especially if you are hooked up with let's say a chatter box kind of a
person then you can turn them down and still hear jaws so you can do what
you need to do. BTW tiger direct is where I got them and either a CMedia or
a Sabrent sound card.

David,

Could you explain briefly why the additional soundcard works
best with Tandem?

Absolutely, in fact I just counted and much to my surprise
there are
actually 4 of them in my collection. On this system jaws has
it's own sound
card which is great since I never know when the next tandem
session is going
to happen. I just got off of one a couple of minutes ago.
They start at
around $12.99 and simply plug in and you're up and running
with sound.

David, can one purchase a USB sound card and if so, how
efficient are they?

Yes it is true, you can do that in 7 and Vista.

Lenny,

It was my understanding you could do this with just one
sound card in Window's 7 or did I misunderstand that when
reviewing specs of that operating system?

thanks
Al

That is why I had dual sound cards installed in this win 7
machine. I have
one dedicated to jaws and everything else to the other. That
way I can
adjust the volume for web page or music if I so desire. For
me it made life
so simpler.

Hi Sherri,
You can't change the volume of Jaws independently,
however, you can change the volume of Winamp.
In Winamp, use the up and down arrow keys to control the
volume.

Sorry, no there isn't, XP is one of those opperating
systems that don't
allow indevidual volume changes such as what your talking
about, although
Vista and 7 has that ability via the system tray.

I really feel I should know this and I even looked in Jaws
help, but can't
find out how to accomplish this. I am running JFW10 with
Windows XP and
Eloquence. Is it possible for me to change the volume of
Jaws and leave the
other items I am running, say Winamp, the same volume. If I
have Winamp set
to 100%, Jaws is very loud. Is there a way to lower the
volume of Jaws
without affecting the Winamp volume? Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] Refreshable Combo Boxes

2010-10-30 Thread Kerryann Ifill
Does anyone know how to handle those combo or list boxes that refresh the
page when you make a selection?

Example: choosing a country like mine Barbados and the first b isn't baraine
and the page refreshes to that setting before I can make my selection.

I know there's a way around this, but I can't remember what it is. Please
help!

Kerry
