Hello Norma,

If you are not getting any text-to-speech output there are a couple things
you might want to check. You might need sighted help to check on these
things unless you have enough sight to read the screen.

In Windows 7 64-bit machines, you can get to the text-to-speech settings by
using the following in the run box of the start menu:
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Speech\SpeechUX\sapi.cpl
Copy the above line and paste it in the edit box of the run dialog box and
press enter key or use the OK button. You will find a list of possible
voices to use as default. You can use arrow keys to select a listed voice,
and tab to a preview button to hear the voice. If you do not hear the voice
then tab to the advance button and press spacebar on it. You will find two
radio buttons In a group for using the preferred default audio device or
use this audio output device. If you use the up or down arrow key to
select the latter then you can tab to a list of audio output devices on your
system. Make sure a device that uses your output speakers is chosen or
listed.

If you can resolve the issue by using this dialog box, you can then go into
the JAWS window and under the sound card choice in the utilities menu make a
choice.

I hope you get it working!

Take care.

Hey listers,

I am dealing with a new Dell PC with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. First
problem I noticed was that Narrator, although loaded, does not speak.
Second problem is there was no speech during the installation of JAWS 12
from a DVD. All I heard was the waves sloshing against the beach. Which is
nice, but hardly worth the money. Anyway, Jaws is loaded, but no speech. I
do have Windows system sounds, and audio CDs and Internet streams play fine.
Seems as though it is a text to speech problem, but I'll be danged if I can
figure out how to resolve it. As usual, all suggestions and advice are
mucho appreciated.

Thanks for reading,
Norma

I had to get sighted help to get the missing sound drivers from the dell

hopefully you can get it fixed.
it deffinitely was a sloppy installation.

One thing you might want to make sure is that it is letting you log
in as admin and not guest.
I worked on a friends computer and this is what his was doing. Found
out that even as guest his permissions was corrupt and had to be reinstalled.
Try getting narrator running by just typing it in the sin7 start menu
search. It would let me start it that way, but key short cuts for it
wouldn't work at all.

Outlook.
I've tried a lot of email clients including Thunderbird.
I found Thunderbird 3.1 quite accessible but I found other issues with it that
made me drop it.
I went back to Outlook (currently running Outlook 2007) but I've purchased a
license for Outlook 2010.
I have a Exchange email account and it works like a charm with Outlook for
email, calendar, contacts etc.
Outlook works great with JAWS.

I posted this last night, however my e-mail client was having issues, so am
unsure if my mail ever made it to the list.

I just got a drive for my pc that burns both duel layer and single layer
dvd's as the previous drive I had bit the dust, plus was not a dvd burner
anyway.

Call me stupid for asking this, but, all my dvd's are failing when I try to
burn. Would you say that's more a fault of Nero V7 Ultra Edition, or do you
think it's more a fault of my media? the thing is it burns normal CD-R's
fine. My main question is, I am burning onto DVD minus R-s made by Amazon.
they are dule layer 8.7GB. what I'm burning however is only 4 point
something odd gigs. Can you not burn single layer sized things to dule
layer discs? In other words, say I had an iso that was a single layer dvd
image. Do I then have to use a single layer dvd or could I theoreticly
still burn it to a dule. I know that would waiste about half the dvd if I
did that, but I don't have any single layer discs now. All I got's dule.
This is really urgent as the dvd I need to burn is something a customer of
mine ordered. If I can't get the resolved I'll just have to refund 'em
which is fine, I got no issue doing that, but it would be a total bummer for
both of us, but more so for the client.

Thank you for any help.

This btw is a dule layer CD/DVD single/dule layer DVD rom/ram drive with
lightscribe ability made by LG.

Chris.

You have different options to get the caller ID. If you install the

who is calling . You can use an add-on program called Skypetalking
that will tell you who is calling and a whole lot more than you can
configure. If you really just want caller ID announcements and
nothing else, you can get a free little program called

audioID for skype

which Mr. Tekkie Dave has on the homepage of this list, I believe.
AudioID uses sapi5 for its announcements but has no way of repeating
or reviewing who called if you did not understand the announcement as
it came in.

Re: [JAWS-Users] No speech on new Win 7-64 PC

2011-02-02 Thread Brian Lee
Hi David,

The control panel that appears when a person uses
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Speech\SpeechUX\sapi.cpl displays 32-bit and 64-bit
voices. Windows on Windows technology is used for this applet. On 64-bit
Windows 7, the regular speech applet in the control panel only shows 64-bit
voices. For example, on my 64-bit Windows 7 machine, the text-to-speech
page of the speech dialog box in the control panel only shows Microsoft Anna
and Model Talker Kate. When I use the 32-bit Windows on Windows control
panel then I also have Scansoft and other voices listed that are 32-bit. On
a 32-bit Windows system, the regular text-to-speech page of the speech
dialog box should list the 32-bit engines that will work in that
configuration. On the other hand, when I try to set a 64-bit voice on my
64-bit system as default, I can do so using the text-to-speech page of the
regular speech applet of the control panel. It is only the 64-bit Windows
that doesn't let you set default to the various voices using the normal
speech applet of the control panel. People using 64-bit Windows 7 can use
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Speech\SpeechUX\sapi.cpl to change the default speech
engine and choose the sound device to be used from the same dialog box. On
32-bit systems a person should be able to do that from the speech applet of
the regular control panel.

Take care.

Thanks for reading,
Norma

[JAWS-Users] Recommendation for 3 totally accessible, totally free and very effective programs

2011-02-02 Thread Dujari, Prateek
Hello.

I assume its ok to share these 3 based on my personal experience on this list
without violating any rules.

1. WinCDEmu
http://wincdemu.sysprogs.org/

Open source total free and accessible little program that through shell
integration creates a virtual drive and then mounts any ISO file on it. It
only creates the virtual drive when u need it and you remove the virtual drive
via the context menu so its gone when u don't need it.

2. FoldertoISO
Feeling lazy so just google this (with no spaces). Open source freeware to
convert any folder including all its sub folders to an ISO file. It doesn't
remove the original folder, just creates a new ISO file of the selected folder.

3. Pazera video/audio converter suite.
totally accessible again, very effective and totally free. converts any
conceivable video file format to any other conceive able video format or to any
other conceivable audio format. Conversion is lossless with no degradation of
sound quality and background hiss/distortion based on my personal experiments
with it. FYI, a 40% setting for the volume of the converted audio file matches
the volume level of the org file based on my experiments. U will see this
volume level setting in the audio extraction part of the program.

Re: [JAWS-Users] ISO????

2011-02-02 Thread Don Marang
An ISO is a disk image format developed by an international standards
organization in a specific format. This standard is not proprietary, so it
can be used by all. It can contain all of the information contained on most
optical CD / DVD disks, except for most copy protected disks. Programs to
copy the contents to a hard disk in the ISO format can be stored away safely
and distributed across the Internet, like a Linux Operating System,
Microsoft Office, or a device driver disk. Another common utility is an ISO
burner, which can write an ISO file back to an optical disk. There are many
other helpful utilities for ISO files. Mounting an ISO file is exactly like
inserting a disk into your optical drive.

There is just so much stuff in the world that, to me, is devoid of any real
substance, value, and content that I just try to make sure that I am working
on things that matter.
