Re: [JAWS-Users] scripting
They may of use to, but traffic on the script list tells different story. Because they are finding that a lot of things are either used different or deprecated, meaning no longer there. If you do come across a script that won't compile. Try looking for what the change is and what the new instance is used. Nothing stays the same and change just makes you think. At 12:36 AM 1/26/2012, you wrote: Hi, Yes, the examples from that book will still compile. FS goes to a lot of trouble to make their scripting, other features, backward compatible. In some more complex scripts, changes have been required between JAWS versions, but by the time you can write scripts of that kind, handling the changes is not an issue. For anyone who runs into compile errors they can not resolve, then on the JAWS scripting list, post the query with a copy of the script or function that is causing the problem, along with a copy of the error message the compiler gave, someone may be able to help... Regards, Paul from Australia - Original Message - From: Brent Harding br...@hostany.net The thing I'd wonder about is that if one went by info based on Jaws 6, will it even compile any more using something newer? I tried to follow those lessons on Main Menu from Jim Snowbarger, and ran into compile errors quickly, and that may have been a couple years ago. [JAWS-Users] daily tip
Daily Tip: Word: Adjust Line Spacing For Entire Document The line spacing between paragraphs is much bigger in Word 2007 and 2010 than in Word 2003. It's 1.0 line spacing (without a space between paragraphs) in Word 2003, but 1.15 line spacing and 10 points after a paragraph in Word 2007 and 2010. To change line spacing for an entire document, select the text you'd like to change. Next, click the Line And Paragraph Spacing button in the Paragraph group of the Home tab. Choose the line spaces you'd like to see in that section of the document. You can also change spaces between paragraphs, here. It seems to me that in the good old days Jaws 10 and before, I had jaws settings which allowed me to hear full punctuation in word and no punctuation when I read emails or articles from the web. I was working in those days and writing adoption home study reports and I needed to hear all that punctuation, but I didn't need to hear it if I was reading an article or an email. [JAWS-Users] How to convert PDF to word or txt when the PDF has a security password?
Hello. I installed Sound Forge from Sony Creative software. I downloaded the user's manual as a PDF. I can open the PDF just fine using Acrobat reader. However all 300 pages or so of the manual are pasted in the PDF file as a graphic so I can't the content using Adobe acrobat reader. Oh and when I open the Pdf document in Acrobat reader it doesn't ask me for any password or anything. Now to read the Pdf I use PDF Converter Professional from Scan Soft. this software converts the Pdf to MS word. It works like a charm for any such Pdf document where the content is pasted as graphic in the Pdf file. the problem is when I start the using Pdf converter professional, a window pops up asking for a password and saying it's a secured PDF document. I'm like, what the heck... why does a Pdf manual for a software have to be like this. Anyway, I don't have any password for the manual. If I ignore and just hit ok my PDF pro converter software seems to begin converting the Pdf , takes like 10min for the 300 plus pages, opens up converted MS Word document and hangs. I can't do anything with that word document. Things hang, Jaws becomes unresponsive and my out is to alt- F4 everything to have JAWS talk again. this behavior is repeatable and consistent on 2 diff PCs both running Win7 and latest JFW13. Seems this password window at the beginning of the conversion is the problem because I never have this problem on any other PDF. solution ideas? When an ocr program works with the scanner, the scanner takes a picture of the print material you put on it and then saves the picture as an image file that your text recognition program - Text Cloner in your case - works its magic on, i.e. performs the optical character recognition. When you feed it an image file, you just eliminate the step of the scanner's taking the picture and sending the saved image to Text Cloner. I hope you can get it to work. Hi, I did not know about this search engine, but I will check it out! I have been using www.ixquick.com and it seems to be accessible also and has a lot of privacy features, such as the fact that it does not record your IP address when you search and does not store your searches. You can also choose to view the websites in the search results with Ixquick's proxy. I have heard that Google is going to start searching your email too if you have G-mail, so I am starting to look for another accessible email provider my self, preferably one that can work through Outlook Express. Re: [JAWS-Users] Punctuation, jaws 13 win7, also magic 11
Miriam, you should be able to set punctuation to some, most, all or none through the Quick Settings in JAWS 13. Open this with the insert key and v. When it opens you will be in the edit box. In the edit box start typing the word punctuation. When JAWS says punctuation, arrow down once. You can cycle through the various punctuation levels by hitting the spacebar. When you get the choice you want, then hit the tab key to okay and hit enter. You should be able to do this in any program you have open. Miriam, as an alternative to Quick Settings, I opened the Settings Center with insert and 6 on the numbers row. I typed punctuation into the edit box and it said it could only be modified through the default setting, which would then I assume affect all programs, not just the one you want. My settings using quick Settings have seemed to hold for me, so I don't know what to suggest. Maybe someone with more experience and expertise with JAWS can help you sort it out. Re: [JAWS-Users] Punctuation, jaws 13 win7, also magic 11
Joni, John here. I'm able to create different punctuation settings for each of my programs. Hmmm! That's really odd. Oh sure, you can change punctuation in the Default and it will effect every program in which individual settings have not been made. But as far as I know, you can create settings for each program. You'd almost have to with something like Excel. I never imagined that there would be an issue. But I believe that the way to make a permanent change is to create a separate profile for each program. There are specific steps to do that. As I'm sure you know, part of any voice profile is how punctuation is processed. If Miriam's settings aren't holding, I suggest that she create separate voice profiles for each different program, save them and then make that particular profile the one which is used when the softwear is called up. I can dig up those steps for creating separate voice profiles if anyone wants them. I got them directly from Freedom. Joni, The guy who helps me with my computer had told me that there is only one default setting which is for all programs and he set it to none for punctuation, but that certainly didn't work. It just seems that I shouldn't have to change the setting every time I move in or out of a program. But at least, now I know what to do for a temporary fix. I am curious now also to know if punctuation an be set for each program or only as an across the board default setting. I have not paid much attention to punctuation on my personal computer, so I don't know how reliable JAWS is once this setting is changed, but that is how to change it in any given program. Joni -Original Message- From: Miriam Vieni Sent: Thursday, January 26, 2012 11:27 AM To: jaws users list Subject: [JAWS-Users] Punctuation, jaws 13 win7, also magic 11 It seems to me that in the good old days Jaws 10 and before, I had jaws settings which allowed me to hear full punctuation in word and no punctuation when I read emails or articles from the web. I was working in those days and writing adoption home study reports and I needed to hear all that punctuation, but I didn't need to hear it if I was reading an article or an email. Now, it seems that even if punctuation is set to none, I still hear it when reading emails and articles from the web. Is this everyone's experience? Am I doing tomsething wrong? After tabbing until I got to tools I arrowed down to general and entered there. I had to type the password twice and hit ok. Fine, that sounds normal behavior right? Fooling around I wanted to see how to unprotect the document. I went back in starting with f12 and followed the same steps but when I got to the password fields I decided to see what would happen if I backspaced over the * in the first and second fields and hit ok and then see if I could open the document. It opened the document with no problems. Well that seems to me to be strange because anyone knowing where to begin in the protection area need only to backspace over the fields erasing the * and they could open your document. Any thoughts?
