Just beware, if you do the registry hack to use Windows Mail, it could
interfere with getting Windows updates.

Supposedly, if you already have SP1 for Win 7, then it might work, but since
Windows Live works decently with Jaws, you are forewarned. I agree it
doesn't have the look and feel of OUtlook Express, and you have to get used
to the contacts manager for doing things, so you can go with whatever you
want. Also, some people are using Thunderbird from Mozilla which doesn't
require a hack.

Actually, if you go to the Jaws-Users site, there are instructions for using
Windows Mail with a Windows 7, 64 bit computer. I've been using Windows

There's always adjustments to new aps, but WM is very close to OE.

Re: [JAWS-Users] entering the symbol for British pound?

2012-08-27 Thread Flor Lynch
It's a bit like the potato/tomato syndrome in the old song, isn't it? In
the UK and much of europe, shift+3 signifies the pound in money. In the
US, the same keystroke signifies the pound in weight. Thank different
keyboard layouts/codes for that.

nono he wants the British pound symbol (money), not the American
symbol for

weight/number sign (as in 40 pounds or 40#).

that one is gotten with insert and 4 on the numbers row and then hit p
three

times to get down to it and enter to place it in the document

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jumping PC cursor

2012-08-27 Thread Flor Lynch
one simple thing to check for. When you press ctrl+JAWSKey+NumpadMinus,
JAWS should say, "the JAWS cursor will not follow the PC cursor". If it
says that the JAWS cursor will follow... then press those keys again.
Pressing those keys twice quickly will maintain that status throughout
all applications, until you do this again. Have it so that the JAWS
cursor will NOT follow the PC cursor.

Hi,

I have a problem what I think it has to do with the Jaws PC cursor.

I could be on the desktop or in a folder with file names. It makes no
difference. When I bring up the desktop, the cursor does not always
land back on the Icon that I Started with. For example, I press enter
on my computer, perform my task and Alt+F4. When the desktop is
displayed, the cursor could be on another Icon instead of my computer
icon.

This is the same when I go into a folder. I could be on a file that I
want to open and when I press enter on it, the cursor jumps to
another file and opens that one. This can also happen when in my
favorites. I press enter on a particular shortcut that I want to go
to and the cursor jump to another shortcut and bring up that web
page. I don't have to press enter for the cursor to jump. I can land
on a file name and not doing anything, the cursor jumps anyway. This
problem doesn't occur within an application like Excel or Word.

I am wondering if this has anything to do with the video intercept?
Perhaps the video intercept is corrupted and/or needs to be repaired
or updated? This problem happens in both the latest Jaws 12 and
Jaws13. I am using windows XP . I have a laptop with windows7 and
this problem does not occur in either Jaws12 &13.

Does Jaws 12 or 13 use video intercept or have FS change this? Any
suggestion on how to correct this problem will greatly be
appreciated. Thank you.

Take care.

Lennie

Hi.

You get the Windows Addressbook by pressing ctrl+3, but Microsoft Outlook
2010 is using it's own addressbook, and this you get by pressing
shift+ctrl+a.
Tab to the listview, and you should be able to see, what you have there, and
if something is wrong, edit or delete it.

Hi

When you open the contact list, you are most likely placed in the search
field. Press shift+tab one time and it will say Search by. The two choices
are Name only and more columns. If more columns is checked, you won't see
any names in the list. So make sure that name only is checked by selecting
it using the arrow keys.. Then you can tab twice to get to the list.

[JAWS-Users] What does repairing JAWS 13 actually do?

2012-08-27 Thread Dujari, Prateek
Hello.

Eric has eloquently described how t run a repair on JFW13. What does repair
actually do? Does it reinstall or correct any errors in all the shared
components and files/folders that JFW downloads and installs when we upgrade to
a newer version or release of JFW?
Second, If I run repair does it mess up my personalized settings for the diff
programs on my PC, does it mess up my default settings of jaws including voice
profiles and voice aliases?
I ask because on both of my 2 Win7 PC's running the latest JFw13.0.1006, I see

Hi Steven,

Below is the link to a TSN that talks about this. Below that, is the steps I
pulled from the TSN which should help you do it.

Regards,
Eric

http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_support/BulletinView.asp?QC=1118

1. Press WINDOWS Key+R.

2. Choose the Browse button.

3. Navigate to the folder where the JAWS setup package is located.

4. Select the setup package file and press ENTER.

5. Press END and then press the SPACEBAR.

6. Type:
/Type Repair

 - Repairs a typical installation of JAWS. Once the repair begins, you will
not be able to cancel the operation. During the repair, progress dialogs are
displayed and a clicking tone is played. At the end, you will be prompted to
restart your computer

Hi friends,

i want to run a repair on JAWS.

I run the downloaded package and it says that the product is already
installed, to modify it, use add remove programmes.

i go to add remove programmes and press return on JAWS 13 and it only gives
me an option to remove it.

Do I have to run a full uninstall and then re-install to be able to repair
it?

How do you enter the symbol for british pounds?

When I read it with Jaws it isn't announced, there is just a blank space
next to the amount?

Re: [JAWS-Users] I was wondering what would be the best E-mail client to use?

2012-08-27 Thread inthaneelf
ok since this one has been hanging out here for a bit:

you can use any of the following Email clients, and all have been used with
some folks liking them and others hating them:
1. windows mail: this takes a "kit" to re-enable it in windows 7 (its there
but was disabled to promote windows live mail), and folks who did this had
some troubles with installing service pack 1, but I have herd no one
complaining about update troubles after installing SP1 and then using the
kit (which there is a copy of it on my grab bag site:
http://grabbag.alacorncomputer.com
2. as you have been told already, windows live mail is used by many folks,
some like it, some love it, and some despise it. a note, some folks prefer
the 2008 version over the 2010 or what ever the latest version is, if you
need the earlier version I believe I still have the installer for it here.
3. thunderbird its a decent enough Email client, is accessible I find it a
bit hard to remember where things are in it, but that's me.
4. Eudora 7.X (the last version produced by the original makers): this is a
decent enough Email client, I use it on my machine as a secondary Email
account client, and think I will like it better when I figure how to take it
out of freebee mode with the info I have on that (and will supply when
asked) so am no longer seeing the "buy me" add.
5. and lastly, its not free, but if you have an office suite that contains
outlook 2003 or later it will work as well, it's a bit of a pain coming off
years of outlook express and switching to outlook, but its similar enough to
be fairly comfortable, and the new outlook (2010) can be gotten by itself
for about 50 dollars from Microsoft.

it also has a calendar, appointment book, and reminders that you can learn
to use if you need those.

hope this helps you with the quest for an Email client.

Hi Cindy are you using Windows 7?
If so the only client you can use is the latest version of Windows Live
Mail!
Windows Mail is unfortunately not supported!
Microsoft doesn't allow for that!
I don't know why that is!
I hope that helps you somewhat!

2012-08-27 Thread Lennie

Hi Joe,

I finally think that my problem is resolved thanks for Freedom
Scientific. I called them today and the technical support person
using candem was able to fix the problem I think. I say I think
because after moving around my computer, it appears to be working
fine. I need a little more time to try it out.

If you can, give technical support a call. I cannot tell you exactly
what he did, but while a folder is open, he went to view and down
arrow to customize this folder and did something there. He was moving
around pretty fast and I didn't catch what he did.

Anyway, let's hope that I do not have the problem anymore and that FS
can help you. By the way, my problem is on my XP desktop computer and
my windows7 laptop seems to be working fine.

Take care.

When the desktop is
displayed, the cursor could be on another Icon instead of my computer icon.

Thank you.

Take care.

I think you've expplained the difference well. On keyboards vver on this
side of the Big Pond, shifted3 gives the pound currency sign. the 'hash'
or number key is right next to the apostrophe and left of the enter key.
Most of our weighings are now done metric in kilogrammes (kg's).

If you do the shift +numbers row 3 you get the symbol for pounds in
weight.
It looks like a tic tac toe grid. If you do insert (or jaws key)
+numbers

row 4, you get their list of often used symbols. Hit p until you hear
pounds. That symbol, so I'm told, is the symbol for British pounds. It

Do you use control-y to open your folders list? The focus must be on a
mailbox list such as the in box or sent items. Then, by pressing the first
letter of the box that you wish to view, you you should be able to find the
box you are looking for.

Hi,

I have started trying to use outlook 2010 with Jaws 13.

My problem is this. When I look at the emails in the inbox I can see them
fine. However, if I move to another folder and try to look at the emails
there it still just shows me the emails from the inbox.

Using Jaws how do I get it to show the emails that are really stored in each
folder?

Thanks.

Hi.

You get the Windows Addressbook by pressing ctrl+3, but Microsoft Outlook
2010 is using it's own addressbook, and this you get by pressing
shift+ctrl+a.
Tab to the listview, and you should be able to see, what you have there, and

When you open the contact list, you are most likely placed in the search
field. Press shift+tab one time and it will say Search by. The two choices
are Name only and more columns. If more columns is checked, you won't see
any names in the list. So make sure that name only is checked by selecting
it using the arrow keys.. Then you can tab twice to get to the list.

Flor,

So, ASCII code, 156 & ANSI value 0163 are the same symbols, just have
different meaning according to how you are using them, whether it be for
weight or currency. Is this correct? Thank you very much.

yes. that's another way to produce the pound sterling currency symbol.
 Its ANSI value is 163.

 Hi Flor,

If you follow the steps below, what £ symbol do you get? Is it the 1
 for
the weight of something or the British Pounds?

You can also press Insert + 4, on the number row above the main
keyboard

 for
the symbols list, arrow down to £, & press enter. Pressing enter on
the
symbol will place it where ever you are in a file when you press
enter.

 Take care.

nearly there. Its ANSI value is NUMPAD ON then [alt]0163 . Another
 one,
the ASCII code, is NUMPAD ON then [alt]156 .

try the numpad5 3 times quickly. you should hear
a number. you can turn numlock on and while
holding down the alt key enter 063 on your numpad
and then release the alt key. you should get this
symbol: £ and of course, when the cursor goes
over that character, jaws says nothing unless you
press the numpad5 3 times quickly.
