Right arrow should do it. You might go into show all bookmarks, there will
be an import item on one of the menus there, see if that works better.

Re: [JAWS-Users] re-JFW V. 14 crashing Windows Explorer under

Is it crashing just when you start the program? Giving an error or just
not responding? Have you tried it with nvda to be sure you know what is
causing the problem, be it the screen reader or itunes itself?

It is working fine here on a similar system, although it does take it
about 15 seconds to get its act together and it no longer auto starts
when I plug in my iphone. I may have turned that feature off myself,
who knows.

I never had the preview pane turned on, but I will try turning off the

usually notice I'm in trouble and restart explorer before it totally
crashes on me.

[JAWS-Users] external sound cards

2012-11-25 Thread Kimsan
Hi,

I know this has come up several times and I am sorry to ask again.

I am on new egg, tiger direct and searching on ebay and I will admit, some
of these brand names are like whaat?

Very basic question, yes, newby for external sound cards.

Which brand should I get because with an external sound card I suppose one
can record a tutorial and have jaws coming through another sound card
correct?

Sorry, I'm very new to this and just want to get info. I am not ashame to
admit, I have no clue

If the above is something that is duable, which external sound card can I
search for on ebay, new egg, etc?

Thank you.

I have been having the same problem with the Windows Explorer crashing in
Jaws 14. I followed these directions exactly and the preview pane was

And it does not crash with Jaws 13. It is rather a bother to have paid for

ctrl-insert-s and change profiles. JFW wouldn't have much to do with
your dell not wanting to reboot immediately. Better have somebody take
a look at it when this condition occurs and find out what is going on,
otherwise you could be in for some major disappointment if it refuses to
start altogether.

2012-11-25 Thread inthaneelf
hi,

for a more full answer to this, not really, the mouse over is a setup on the
web page, a bit of code there so can't be "turned off", as the other person
indicated you can activate a mouse over with that keystroke, there are a
couple others in the jaws keyboard help file, and by making some changes in
jaws you can cause jaws to not announce a mouseover, but that means you will
not be able to use one due to not knowing its there, if you really want to
shut that down I can check to see if I saved the steps for doing this, but I
really recommend not killing part of your operational abilities, eh?

I am also using a Dell laptop with Windows 7 and it constantly causes
Windows explorer to crash. It often does this several times in a row and I
have reverted to Jaws 13 most of the time recently. The laptop has also
started not rebooting when it freezes. Then I wait several hours and it
boots. But I am sure it is Jaws 14 conflicting with something. I have the
Vocalizer voices set up and I can't remember how to get back to Eloquence in
Jaws 14 so I could check if it might be the other voices causing the
problem.

Re: [JAWS-Users] java update

2012-11-25 Thread Robert Arrabito
Hi Shane and all,

I am running JFW V. 14 under Windows 7 Pro on a 64-bit Dell PC. I went to
www.java.com and downloaded / installed the latest version of JAVA. As
instructed I reopened my browserer (Internet Explorer) to ensure that the
JAVA update would take place. However, upon restarting my PC, I get the
pop-up message telling me that there is a new version of JAVA and would I
like to update. I cannot get JFW to get me on the pop-up message and there
is no sighted help at the moment. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

I can't speak for anyone else but the latest version of Java seems to work
better than previous versions. Before, with update 6 series, the tree views
under the advanced settings for Java did not work. They still aren't
perfect, but with update 7, it read the choices in that tree. I don't know
what version of Jaws or Windows you are using, but I've got both xp and
windows 7, both running Jaws 13.0 latest build.

ie 10 accessable with jaws maybe that would work better.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Windows 8 And JAWS

2012-11-25 Thread Don Marang
I thought the Edsel was an awesome design. It fit in perfectly well in
the original "Muppet Movie"! Actually, I recall Edsel being a separate
company that was bought up by Ford.

Yes, many experts are saying Steven Sinofsky is just a scapegoat.
However, most experts who are more familiar with the attitudes and inner
workings of Microsoft have a different view! Balmer has always not
gotten along with Steven Sinofsky, and there were many, many complaints
about his combative, strict, gruff management style. He set up
competitive positions between Microsoft divisions, such as X-Box,
Windows, and phone. Steven Sinofsky does not promote cooperation within
the company. Balmer still believes in the "one interface everywhere"
and wants lots of synergy and cooperation between divisions. He is
still pushing this hard between Windows 8, Windows RT (on Surface),
X-Box, and Windows 8 phone.

Personally, I have no problem with Microsoft trying out a new
interface. Other than interesting Metro wide contracts now available,
like DLNA (play to network device) and sharing features, I see little
advantage in the new tiled mobile style interface. The current apps are
dumbed down, not mature, and most are difficult or impossible to use
with a screen reader. As a former Chief Technology Officer in a
Corporate IT department, I can not see large companies wanting to rush
into Windows 8. My concern is whether Microsoft continues to dumb down
computing and eliminate the desktop or something just as powerful!

 Hi Steven,
Most of the changes in Windows 8 are geared toward the mobile
 market, not so
 much on the PC.
I would hold off, Microsoft may have another Vista, on their hands.
You can get a program called, "Classic Shell", that will give you the
 familiar
Windows classic start menu, but you still need to deal with
 ribbons in
Windows Explorer if my memory serves me correctly.
As far as an upgrade, I would prefer to do a clean install of an
 O/S instead
of an upgrade from a existing version of Windows.
