Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws losing speech with control+j command in Firefox

2013-06-18 Thread Waqas Chauhdry
Greetings,

I am having a somewhat similar issue but only with Jaws 14. I get my
newspapers as a html file from talking newspapers and use firefox to read
them.

I have firefox version 21 here which crashes every time I try to open up the
newspaper with Jaws 14. The bizarre thing is that Jaws 10 and 11 work just
fine. I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to fix this issue.

Very Best Regards

Waqas

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws losing speech with control+j command in Firefox

Hello list,

I was wondering if others have experienced this issue?

While in Firefox, Jaws will lose speech or crash all together when I press
the control+j command to check the status of my downloads. This doesn’t
happen in IE and it doesn’t matter if I’m either in the process of
downloading something or just reviewing the history of downloads. Also, it
doesn’t matter where I’m downloading from. Be it bookshare, Bard, etc.

I’m using the latest JFW update on a Windows 64 bit machine running the
latest Firefox enterprise version (17.0.6) since the regular Firefox is
still having problems with flash and Jaws. And yes, I have also experienced
this problem with the regular Firefox version.

I can’t recall whether this crashing/freezing happened before the latest
Jaws update, but I’m inclined to believe so. I don’t have an earlier version
of Jaws on this computer either where I can try it out.

Anyone else come across this problem?

Does anyone know of an accessible portable ink jet printer - something
that
could be easily carried around along with a lap top.

Re: [JAWS-Users] hot keys

2013-06-18 Thread Mike B.
Hi Tom,

Hot keys are shortcut keystrokes. For example, I use shortcut keystrokes to
open such applications as Internet Explorer, Notepad, MS Word. Using
hotkeys / shortcut keystrokes allow you to open the specific application
from anywhere in the computer rather than going to the Icon on the desktop
or start menu to open them. What operating system are you running? Also,
would you like to create shortcut keystrokes from Icons on your desktop or,
from applications that don't have Icons / shortcuts on the desktop? Below
are steps to create a hotkey / shortcut keystroke from an Icon / shortcut on
the desktop:

Not knowing what you have on your desktop we'll use the Jaws Icon , I'm
pretty sure this 1 is there.
1. Go to your desktop using the keystroke, Windows key + M, if you're not
already there.

2. Press the letter, J, until you have Jaws highlighted / selected.

3. Hold down the, Alt key, press enter. This keystroke opens properties
for this version of Jaws. When properties opens you'll hear, for example,
Jaws 14.0 properties.

4. Tab a couple times until you hear, shortcut keys hotkeys. If there is a
shortcut key already assigned it will be announced but, if there isn't jaws
will say, none.

5. If there isn't a shortcut keystroke assigned you would like to insert
one, you press the keystroke you want to use; for example you want to use,
control key + alt key + J.

Hold down the control alt keys, press the letter J. doing this inserts
this keystroke into the shortcut hotkey field.

6. Use your say line keystroke, Insert key + up arrow, to read what you've
inserted to make sure the correct keystroke is there.

7. Tab to the apply button, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the
spacebar or enter.

That's it, you should now have a hotkey for Jaws.

Take care.

Hi Tom,

You can also creat hotkeys to open folders drives but, you need to have
created a shortcut for the folder or drive on the desktop or in the start
menu. Creating shortcuts is a whole different animal. In Windows7 there's
a thing called pinning items to the task bar which works great but this
again, is a whole different animal.

keystrokes to

open such applications as Internet Explorer, Notepad, MS Word.
Using hotkeys / shortcut keystrokes allow you to open the specific
application from anywhere in the computer rather than going to the
Icon on the desktop or start menu to open them. What operating system
are you running? Also, would you like to create shortcut keystrokes
from Icons on your desktop or,

from applications that don't have Icons / shortcuts on the desktop?
Below are steps to create a hotkey / shortcut keystroke from an Icon /
shortcut on

the desktop:

Not knowing what you have on your desktop we'll use the Jaws Icon ,
I'm pretty sure this 1 is there.
1. Go to your desktop using the keystroke, Windows key + M, if you're
not already there.

2. Press the letter, J, until you have Jaws highlighted / selected.

3. Hold down the, Alt key, press enter. This keystroke opens
properties

for this version of Jaws. When properties opens you'll hear, for
example,

Jaws 14.0 properties.

4. Tab a couple times until you hear, shortcut keys hotkeys. If there
is a

shortcut key already assigned it will be announced but, if there isn't
jaws

will say, none.

5. If there isn't a shortcut keystroke assigned you would like to
insert one, you press the keystroke you want to use; for example you
want to use, control key + alt key + J.

Hold down the control alt keys, press the letter J. doing this
inserts

this keystroke into the shortcut hotkey field.

6. Use your say line keystroke, Insert key + up arrow, to read what
you've inserted to make sure the correct keystroke is there.

7. Tab to the apply button, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press
the spacebar or enter.

That's it, you should now have a hotkey for Jaws.
HTH
Take care.
Mike

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws losing speech with control+j command in Firefox

2013-06-18 Thread Chris Hill
Working fine here with JFW latest and ff21. This is a problem I've
never had, and I'm a heavy ff user.

[JAWS-Users] Shortcut Keys and Hotkeys

2013-06-18 Thread Rick Justice
These terms are often used interchangeably, but are technically different.
Hotkeys:
These keystrokes are typically used in menus and dialogues, and are
Windows, or application specific.
Familiar hotkeys include Alt + F4, for closing a window in the operating
system, or closing an application.
Control + C for copying to the Windows clipboard etc, or in a dialogue,
like Alt + N for the next button.

Shortcut keys:
Typically tied to a shortcut, hence the name
A shortcut is nothing more than a quick way to a destination,
and when a keystroke is tied to it,it is not necessary to locate the
shortcut itself from a list.
Control + Alt+ J, is a popular shortcut keystroke for starting Jaws.
Items that are found on the Desktop and start menu are typically shortcuts,
and in many cases can have shortcut keystrokes such as Windows key + E for
Windows Explorer,Windows key + R to open the run dialogue etc.
Jaws keystrokes typically include the insert, or Jaws key which is one in
the same.
If you have menu and control help turned on in Jaws, as well as speak access
keys, you can hear many hotkeys as you encounter them.
Take some time to explore your computer, and use a search engine like Google
you can find some pretty cool stuff!
