[JAWS-Users] emails

2014-02-10 Thread anna vimini

Hi ,
Okay I have unchecked message pain but it still does not solve my
problem On how the message displays in my in box.

It still shows the subject first before the name of the sender.
I think I am just going to leave it the way it is because I have tried
everything I know to get the message to display with the name of the
sender first.

thanks Trish, Maria and anyone else who tried to solve my Problem.

Andy,
When you download those voices from the JFW site, it detects what kind of
system you are using and provides the appropriate voice profiles.
If I mislead anyone inadvertently, I apologize. I use some 32 bit software
on my own machine. I was referring specifically to the voices provided for
Jaws.

I don't know about this particular instance, but it is definitely possible
to run 32 bit programs on a 64 bit system. You just can't do the reverse.

Dj, if the older XP system was a 32 bit, it's unlikely that those voices
will work on your newer 64 bit system.
There have been some instances where voices I have used with Jaws 13 and
14 don't work at all with Jaws 15, but I believe that is because the
supporting software has been changed.
I'm not 100% clear on this but I am sure that any program designed to work
on a 32 bit system, might not function easily in a 64 bit environment.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws not reading lower ribbon in Outlook 2010

2014-02-10 Thread john Justice
I'd like to add something else to Mike's suggestion.
There is a system based hotkey combination which will automatically minimize
and expand the ribbons. It is Control-F1.
This is a toggle command.
However, this does appear to be an issue with Outlook 2010. I believe that
you can save the Outlook environment in such a way that the ribbon function
is deactivated. I have often wondered if that might not be better.
I'm not sure how to do that but I was told that you can choose to use or not
use the ribbon commands for each of the modules in Microsoft Office.

One thing to check is are the ribbons minimized. Press alt+h to go to the

If this is checked, press space to uncheck it. JAWS won't read minimized

to the other day. When I hit the alt key it takes me to the top ribbons. The
file ribbon I can up and down arrow through ok. I can also arrow across all
the top ribbons. However when I go to go to the lower ribbon in any of them,
for instance view, it says lower ribbon and then nothing. No matter if I
arrow, tab, whatever there is no speaking by JAWS. If I use the JAWS cursor
I hear them so I know they are there. I even tried other versions of JAWS
with same outcome. Is there a setting or something I have inadvertently
changed?

[JAWS-Users] Mac Preview /Adobe/Jaws Problems?

2014-02-10 Thread J.Cyr
Good day,
Has any one else run into problems opening an adobe file that was saved using
Mac Preview? I'm running Windows XP and Jaws eleven, and when I opened a file
saved using that software I either got: all text shown together as one word,
one line, no spaces. Or, (if I selected read document left to right top to
bottom) one word one line. The file could not be converted on another computer
that is not running Jaws. Has anyone had a similar experience and/or know of a
work around to deal with such files?

Thanks for any thoughts,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Mac Preview /Adobe/Jaws Problems?

2014-02-10 Thread J.Cyr
Dear Flor,
We did try saving as a print file, in a couple of different ways and with at
least one other programme in addition to Adobe. (I handed that bit over to a
technician so I don't have the details.) The Adobe produced the no spaces
version, and that on the machine not running Jaws. The other software did work
in one sense, it produced words and lines, but unfortunately the original
document is formatted in two columns and they were merged with horrible
consequences to the sense and usefulness of the document.

I did try raw stream, it produced exactly the same effect as left to right, top
to bottom, one word one line.

I don't know if an OCR approach was tried on the other machine (I'll check,
thank you), I didn't, and I don't have a good OCR programme, or not one that
saves to text anyway. Thanks for the thoughts, ... any other spring to mind?

2014-02-10 Thread Flor Lynch
Another few options: Have you got a Microsoft word version that is
capable of opening and viewing the pdf? If it can't but is an earlier
Microsoft Word, or anyway: you could save the pdf file as a text file,
then you could select all in that text file; and copy the selected to
the clipboard; and paste the clipboard into a new Microsoft word
document. You could then (and assuming for now that the text will thus
be rendered more readable) make any necessary adjustments in Word, by
using, for example, the Find Replace Dialogue and the More... option
therein.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Mac Preview /Adobe/Jaws Problems?

2014-02-10 Thread Flor Lynch
Is Adobe allowed to save the pdf to text? You will likely lose all
comumn format information, but that might be better than nothing. then
you could (as I have just suggested) reinput your selection into a
Microsoft word document. Or, I've never tried a pdf in Excel or similar
but if you have such a creature then you could try pasting into that.
Microsoft word, however, should see and recognise the format of the
columns information even after they apparently have disappeared from the
text version of the file.

The Adobe Reader is free and basic, and just isn't cut out for reading
complex tables, especially where little or no attention was paid to
accessibility in the creation of the pdf file.

Another avenue? After conversion into text, the file could be converted
into HTML, which might assist Re: formatting. there are paid and free
text to html converters for that job. the one I have inserts an extra
line space between every line. However, if you google text to html (or
similar) you may come across some interesting softwares.

Thanks Flor, those are some interesting ideas. I think some of your
suggestions were tried, but not the html converter, I'll definitely run through
them and see what we can do.

These are fairly basic columns, and I'm used to this sort of layout, some times
lines end in the wrong place but usually Jaws handles it well enough.

Thanks again I'll give some of these a try. Thing is these are files I am
