Re: [JAWS-Users] AdwCleaner: was Malware bytes
No, it justs lists the registry keys it has identified as spyware; it lists the path but you need to know what the key is. Some are logical, many of them are alphanumeric strings which is typical in the registry. - Original Message - From: Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS) To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Tuesday, December 30, 2014 9:13 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] AdwCleaner: was Malware bytes It sounds promising. I previously posted this, but it may not have gone through. So, I modified the subject line so as not to hijack the thread. I use a different piece of software than Malware Bytes which is much more effective. It as AdwCleaner and it is totally accessible with Jaws, as well as with other screen readers. I do some tech support, and it cleaned up a client's computer that was seriously infected with spyware including browser hijacks. My wife also tried it on her computer that seemed to freeze occasionally, and it resolved those issues. This is one of the recommended programs for attacking some forms of spyware and malware on BleepingComputer.com. Here is my brief tutorial on its usage: I thought I'd submit a post about an outstanding malware removal program that is extremely accessible. It is called Adwcleaner. I used version 4.106. I tried it about ten days ago on my computer and found a couple things. My wife had an issue with her computer freezing when doing downloads, and she used this program this morning and it corrected the issue. I have a client who had issues with several pieces of spyware such as global updater, groovorio, roboot, and many more that could not be nuked with MalwareBytes or a couple different anti-virus programs. This person had over sixty browser helper objects in Firefox, and these same programs that ran in Internet Explorer were listed in various places in the registry, under program folders and scheduled tasks. It identified over 155 different registry keys, and over thirty folders with malware. Adwcleaner opens with a simple screen layout. Under the actions menu, you first hit the Scan button. It will take a few minutes to scan. On the results screen, there are several tabs. These are tabs for each browser (firefox, Internet explorer, google chrome if you have it), plus tabs for files, folders, registry, scheduled tasks etc. Under each tab, you can tab into the list of items it has identified. If you don't want to clean an item, just uncheck it as you arrow down through the culprits. Once you've reviewed everything, go back to the actions area and hit the Clean button. It will warn you to make sure you've saved data from your other applications as it will close all programs. When it says it will close all programs--believe it! It means it! It closes everything, including your screen-reader. Suggestion: Make sure you have a shortcut installed so you can bring your screen reader back up about ten seconds after it closes. When you bring your screen reader up again, it will tell you it needs to reboot to finish the process. When it reboots, you will be in a notepad log file showing what it was able to remove. The log file will also be saved, along with the quarantine folder, under your root directory. You can download AdwCleaner at https://toolslib.net/downloads/finish/1/ Steve Lansing, MI - Original Message - From: LeDon To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Saturday, December 27, 2014 6:15 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Malware bytes Hey there, mike, I have never used malware bytes or anything like it before. Re: [JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder
Just an amendment that I haven't placed in the official guidelines as of yet, but given recent events it seems appropriate. There is no need to reply to a post asking any question with a response of I don't know, (AKA) IDK. The fact is such posts simply create more traffic on a very high volume list that does not need any help in that area. This list has been created for The purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader Program. So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we all know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently. Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It creates a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than first. So try it yourself first whatever it is. If you get stuck then let the list know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma. Then I'm sure help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there is a software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is perfectly fine. The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of Freedom Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then I suggest you take it up with Freedom Scientific directly. Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible. Also any newsletters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval. Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. [JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list! Re: [JAWS-Users] Reading guitar tabs with Jaws
My ear is not the best, and I would like to be able to read guitar tabs as well. The guitar is my six string laptop! Ive always played by ear or memorization, but figured Id finally learn tabs. Doing so however seems a bit challenging with Jaws. Im sure it in part has to do with my lack of familiarity with tabs in general, but with all the Es, bs, gs and dashes and so on, it sounds like Jaws is just reading a bunch of gibberish. Can anyone recommend a better method or tips on how to decipher these hieroglyphics with JFW. My guitar learning was all done in Spanish. So Im also trying to get used to the notes in English.
