Re: [JAWS-Users] need help uninstalling a program

2015-01-03 Thread Mike Boyd

Kevin,

Do an internet search for a program called Revo Uninstaller, download and
install it, run the program, and see if the program in question shows up in
the list that will be there when the program opens. If it is not there, tab
down to the edit box and type in the location string to where the .exe file
resides, something like c:\program files (x86)\iobit\iobit...exe, and
then tab to the OK or Uninstall button and press enter on it. This is a free
program, and can be very effective at removing stubborn programs. Good luck.

Hi Kevin,

If you find the program in your Program Files or Program Files X86 folders,
look inside the program folder & see if there's an uninstall.exe there & try
that & see if that will get rid of it.
Take care.

Hello!

Perhaps you should change this value from "true" to "false" in about config
page:

layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled

I use Firefox 34.0 with JAWS 15.0.12085 and the JAWS cursor works quite
well.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Cursor & Firefox 34.0.5

2015-01-03 Thread Mike B.
Hi Scorpio,

Disabling hardware graphics acceleration in Office / Word 2010 / 2013 will
help these programs as well. Check these notes:
From:
Jean Menzies via Jfw
Just thought I'd share this for those who want to try it.

The symptom. I've often found sluggish performance in Word when searching,
or when opening a second document. Jaws seems to either not be able to read
a screen without refreshing, or, in searching, it would sometimes take two
tries to get to the results. Just plain sluggish.

In going through settings, I came across an option to "Disable Hardware
Graphics Acceleration". I checked that and things seem to be much more
responsive
now. I'll see how the day goes. But if anyone wants to do this, go into
Options, Advanced, and the item is in there. If you use the, Alt + G
keystroke,
you'll get to it much quicker. From what I read on Google, if you change it
in one MS program, it should affect all of them. Hey, I don't need graphics
anyway. haha.
Hope this works.
Jean
Note From Mike B.: My settings wouldn't stick until I checked the, prompt to
update style, checkbox. To get to this checkbox the keystroke is, Alt + Y.

Hi Jean & Ted,

I went into my MS Word 2010 & played around with these 2 settings a little
bit & what I found was, sometimes they would hold & sometimes not. So, when
I found that they were both checked after a few attempts of saving these
settings again,I got the hell out with the escape key! LOL LOL

Note: I'm not sure but, it might make a difference in which order you check
these options. I've got mine saved now &, don't want to play around
anymore.

Take care.

Hi Mario,

Control + W, closes individual tabs.

Moving through tabs is not a jaws specific function, so you can use the
firefox commands. They are the same as in IE.
Ctrl+tab will move you to the next tab.
Ctrl+shift+tab will move you to the previous tab.
Ctrl+1 through 0 on the number row will move you directly to the
corresponding opened tab.

If you want to turn off tab browsing in Firefox, for those who are
interested. When Firefox is open, do the following:
1. Press alt+t to get to the tools menu, then the letter O to get to
Options.
2. You will land in a list of categories in which you can use the up and
down arrow keys to navigate. Arrow either up or down until you hear the word
"Tabs."
3. Tab once, and you will hear the following. "Open windows in a new tab
instead." By default, it is checked.
4. Press the spacebar to uncheck it. If it is already unchecked, leave it
alone. Everything else is optional as you tab through the dialogue. Personal
preference and experimentation is ok.
5. Tab till you hear the ok button, and activate it with the spacebar or
enter key.
You shouldn't need to, but maybe close and re-open Firefox again if you feel
you need to do so for peace of mind.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Using Esc Key to Close Mozilla Firefox

2015-01-03 Thread Dave Carlson
One of the major difficulties I have with Firefox is in my use of the ESC
key. I tend to tap it multiple time due to impatience or frustration, and in
Firefox, I end up closing it accidentally way too often.

I don't have the same problem with other programs or applications -- they
just ignore any excess pressing of the ESC key.

How do I adjust Firefox settings so that it doesn't shut down with pressing
ESC more than once or twice? I'd like it a lot more if I could get over that
behavior.

No, I'm too old to stop pressing the ESC key multiple times. It's in my DNA.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws Cursor & Firefox 34.0.5

2015-01-03 Thread Mike B.
Hi Again Amit,

As you & others have found out by now, my post about unchecking the Use
Hardware Acceleration checkbox does not help to make the Jaws cursor work in
Firefox 34.0.5 like it did in prior versions. I don't know how to get the
Jaws cursor to work in this version but, if I find out I'll let the list
know.

Hello!

Perhaps you should change this value from "true" to "false" in about config
page:

layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled

I use Firefox 34.0 with JAWS 15.0.12085 and the JAWS cursor works quite well.

That all depends on how high or low you have your verbosity set. If you
have it on low, then it will not announce if the check box is checked. If
you have it on medium or high, then it will indicate if it is checked or
not. HTH Frustrated with your Mac, I-device, or AppleTV? New user and want

All,
If you know the proper name of a program, which has been mis-spelled in the
subject line,
please correct it before posting your response.
Which is the reason for this message.
This is helpful to everyone, especially those who may use the archives.
Also, it allows for getting thru a list of messages faster when you don't
have to have Jaws re-read to find out what is actually being talked about.
It is beneficial to all to make sure that subject lines are clear and to

All,
If you know the proper name of a program, which has been mis-spelled in the
subject line,
please correct it before posting your response.
Which is the reason for this message.
This is helpful to everyone, especially those who may use the archives.
Also, it allows for getting thru a list of messages faster when you don't
have to have Jaws re-read to find out what is actually being talked about.
It is beneficial to all to make sure that subject lines are clear and to
the point,
and that spelling is correct by use of a spell-checker, or proof-reading
messages for mistakes.

Thank you,

It is a program that you can use to structure your notes/files and the like
you would in a binder or notebook. It is Microsoft's parrallel program to
Evernote. John Martin has written scripts which make it accessible to JAWS
users. I think my problem is with JAWS and not his scripts.
Does anyone on this list use the program?
Sandy

Re: [JAWS-Users] Thunderbird and the status line

2015-01-03 Thread adam morris

Hi Greg,

from what I understand there is no fix.
You can copy scripts from jaws 15 which will enable the status line to
be read.

Hello all,

anyone know if there is a fix for reading the status line in the newest
versions of Thunderbird?

Hi, I use IE11 and windows 8.1. When the add starts, hit ctrl and home to
get to the top of the page then just press the letter b a few times until
you hear, (skip add button) and hit enter. NOTE: I can't get this to work in
windows 7 ...

Another way to perform this task is to hit jaws key and the letter Z to
turn off the virtual cursor. Now you can use letter j to skip back the
letter k to mute and the letter l to skip forward.

Hello gang.
I learnt here that while a youtube.com vid is playing, one can hit 'insert
3' (which is the JFW pass-through key), then hit l to skip forward in the
vid by a few seconds. What is the letter to hit to skip ahead by a greater
increment, say 30sec or 1min or maybe even more?

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 16, STRANGE E-MAIL ISSUE

2015-01-03 Thread John Justice
I'm using Jaws 16, Windows 7 and Outlook 2010.

I have incoming messages sorted into folders based on the subject. When I
delete messages from one of those folders, Jaws 16 indicates that there is
one message remaining. But if I exit the folder and then return, the
message is gone.

Is there a setting I need to change which will correct that problem.

This happens all of the time on all of my e-mail folders.

Any help or suggestions would be welcome.
