[JAWS-Users] Excel - Unused keyboard shortcuts to assign to macros and designing user forms
Hi, I'm looking for a list of unused keyboard shortcuts I can assign to macros in Excel 2013. The only two I've come across that aren't already being used by JAWS or Excel are Ctrl + j and Ctrl + m. If you're talking about the out of box setup experience also known as oob, you have to use Narrator for that. If the computer is windows 8 or above, press windows+enter about 3 minutes after you hit the power button the first time. Hopefully, you'll get narrator speech which you can use to finish out of box setup. You can then install jaws by using narrator to get the process started. Re: [JAWS-Users] New Computer Initialization
Trish, Put your JAWS installation file onto an empty flash drive, and rename the drive to something that starts with a letter that you have no other drive named with. Boot up your computer, and press Windows key + D to ensure that you are on the desktop. Computer should be the upper most icon on the left side of your screen, therefore pressing Control + the Home key should focus you on the icon to open Computer. Now, press the first letter of the name that you gave your flash drive which contains only the jaws installation file. Press enter to open the drive, and then the space bar to select the file. Now press enter, and you will hear the tone that accompanies the User Account Control, and press the down arrow and then the up arrow to find the Yes button, and press enter or space bar. JAWS will start installing and the voice guided installation will start and lead you through the process. Hope this helps, I have used this method many times. Re: [JAWS-Users] trying o open a word document in protective view.
Jim, When focused on the document file, right click the file, and arrow up once and select properties. There on the Home tab, tab down to you find the Unblock button, and press enter on this. Now return to the file and it will open normally. Just use the keystroke control+f, while using the F S Reader. -Original Message- From: The Iowa Gal Sent: Sunday, April 19, 2015 6:01 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Problem with Jaws Find in FS Reader Hi list, I'm using Jaws 15 with FS Reader 3.0. In attempting to use the Jaws Find command in a DAISY text-only book, Jaws puts me at the beginning of the book no matter what word I am trying to find. I am searching within the document pane with the window maximized. Unloading and restarting Jaws does not help, nor does closing and restarting FS Reader. I never had such a problem with FS Reader 2.0 and, frankly, I am regretting upgrading to 3.0. Can someone help me resolve this issue or, lacking a solution, is it possible for me to revert to FS Reader 2.0? [JAWS-Users] FW: WINDOWS 10 AND SPARTAN
Hello group, It seems that my recent post has created some questions and confusion. With that in mind, I'm sending a copy of an e-mail I sent to Bob Entofer. He had some reasonable questions and I'm hoping that this message will help to clear up anyone else's concerns. From: John Justice [mailto:john.just...@virtualvisiontech.com] Sent: Monday, April 20, 2015 1:35 PM To: bob.edenho...@gmail.com Subject: WINDOWS 10 AND SPARTAN Bob, I can answer some of these questions but not all of them, yet. How did you find out that Microsoft is no longer going to use internet explorer for windows 10? That information has been available for quite some time. If you were to Google Windows 10, you would find that information. In addition, Freedom Scientific and Microsoft always work in tandem and make sure that any new software they come out with is compatible. Can you tell me a little bit about Spartan? Will it be accessible with jaws? and can you use adobe flash player with it? Spartan is a search engine built with Google Chrome and Firefox as the initial platform. It has characteristics of both Google Chrome and Firefox. Adobe Flash Player is an independent software package. However, be assured that Adobe is no fool. I'm sure that their software is already compatible or that they will come out with one of their new updates which will render it workable with Windows 10. Will it be accessible with jaws? I have never found a Microsoft major software package that wasn't accessible with Jaws. Some of the elements in Microsoft Office aren't Jaws friendly but for the most part, there hasn't been a Microsoft operating system that Jaws couldn't work with. Could I also use Free YouTube to MP3 converter to download and convert music videos to mp3? Again, you are asking about software which operates independently from the Windows operating system. I don't see any compatibility issues but only time will tell. Will I need to install Spartan if I upgrade to windows 10? Or, does it come installed with windows 10? Windows 10 will use Spartan in the same way as prior versions used Internet Explorer. There will be no need to upgrade since Spartan is already a part of the Windows 10 operating system. Why is it, that internet explorer is being replaced? In the past two years, Microsoft has reported thousands of instances in which Internet Explorer was used as a gateway into personal and commercial computer systems. Although Microsoft has attempted to recognize and deal with these situations, it was determined that the most reliable way of handling all of these intrusions was to develop and implement a completely new search engine. That is what will be done with the introduction of Windows 10 and The Spartan search facility. --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. http://www.avast.com For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and google chrome!
JAWS flat out recommends against it, and it can cause some nasty crashes under the right circumstances; it's really touch and go. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of gs Sent: Saturday, April 18, 2015 4:46 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and google chrome! Hopefully someone can provide a little better response than I got rid of the thing. I would encourage everyone to keep IE, Firefox and Chrome around because there are invariably things you'll find that will work better with Chrome than anything else. If nothing else, Chrome is the fastest browser of the bunch. Not sure why there is an unusual amount of Chrome hate on this list. I admit that combo boxes are a little quirky and there may be occasions where depending on the way they're done, there may be some problems. However, if you enable Forms Mode and then press Alt + Down Arrow, for many combo boxes, you'll be able to cause them to work although they may be a little sluggish and quirky compared to how they work, for example, in IE. Combo boxes are quite iffy with JAWS these days no matter what browser you use.
