[JAWS-Users] Jaws and windows8

2015-07-10 Thread Bob Edenhofer
Neil, I’m running windows 8, and have no problems with it! the start menu is
different from windows 7 because it has all the apps! on the other hand, I use
a utility called classic shell if you ever heard of it, it’s a software utility
that brings back the classic start menu in previous versions of windows! once
you have it installed, if you want the regular windows 8 start menu, hold down
the shift key, and hit the windows key at the same time, and you’ll have the
windows 8 start menu! now if you want the classic start menu, then hit the
windows key by itself. Hope this helps! You don’t half to stay away from
windows 8 whatsoever! do what you feel is right for you my friend, it’s a free
country!

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and Statistical Package for Social Science (spss)

2015-07-10 Thread Eyþór Kamban Þrastarson
I have tried spss and the interface is not accessible. You can read output
tables from spss if they are exported to excel. In my studies I used R which is
a free statistical environment that can do all the samet hings as spss but it
is harder to learn. R is accessible with jaws using the Jaws cursor and there
is even a package for R that allows you to write output into text files easily
readable by screen reader users. If you have any questions don't hesitate to
contact me via eythor...@gmail.com

Hi,

I'm doing some science research at the Faculty of Economics. Has someone any
expirience using IBM Statistical Package for Social Science (spss)? Is it
accesible and how it works with JAWS? If so, how to find some JAWS Help topics?

Thanks in advance!

When you hide an update, you only remove it from the list in Windows Update.
This does not prevent the update from appearing again.

[JAWS-Users] Selecting a table in a browser

2015-07-10 Thread Cristóbal
Hello list,

I need to select a pretty large table and paste it into an email. I’m
talking about five hundred rows or so. Is there a quick way with Jaws to
select the whole thing and maintain formatting? I’ve got Full Content Using
Onscreen Highlight selected with Jaws, but when I copy and paste the
content, the table format is lost. The email format is also set to HTML. I
know I’ve done this in the past, but can’t recall what step I must be
missing.

Using JFW 16.

Thanks,

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] windows firewall

Hi Kevin,

You need to tab passed several tabs you will hear, Search Box edit, then
the, Turn Windows Firewall on or off link, will be about 4 tabs. Or, after
pressing enter on the, Windows Firewall link, shift + tab, around 7 times,
you will find it. Whatever the case might be the, Turn Windows Firewall on
or off link, is there just keep tabbing. I'm running Windows 7 Pro so, if
you're running a different OS I can't say how your OS will display the
options.
Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and Windows 8

2015-07-10 Thread Londa Peterson
I use Windows 8.1 with no difficulty. I don't even use any kind of classic
shell program although I understand why some may choose to do so. I tend to
like to use the search box, and that's really easy from the start screen.
You just start typing, and the results start coming. You can also use the
desktop, but getting things there will be a bit more interesting. When
you're on the start screen, press tab. You will hear JAWS say apps button.
Press enter or space. You'll be in a list of all your apps. The windows 8
modern apps will show first, and then you'll hear your desktop apps. When
you find the one you want, press the applications key and choose open file
location. You'll be in the folder where the shortcut is actually located.
You can then press the applications key again and find the send to menu.
Press enter on that and go down to where it says desktop create shortcut. If
you're doing different parts Office, they are all in the same folder. You
can find them and repeat the last few steps to get them all on your desktop.
Unless you're actually needing to get a new computer I'd just wait for 10,
but I also think there are two sides to the Windows 8 story. People need to
know the truth that it's not as what some people make it out to be. I
couldn't have figured it all out for myself, though, so I'm glad there were
FS webinars as well as some knowledgeable people out there who were willing
to help.

Hello Gang:

I have been encouraged to stay away from Windows 8, mainly, because I am
told it has no start menu. And, that access to software is difficult.

Does it have the standard desktop? In other words, how do you get to
your software?

I usually access my software with windows 7 by going to the desktop with:

Windows key plus the letter m. How do you do it with windows 8?

Are there really problems with it compared to windows 7?

The only things I use a great deal are MS Word, MS Outlook for e-mail, and
Internet Explorer.

Thanks,

Cristobal

[JAWS-Users] Windows Firewall, More

2015-07-10 Thread Michael B.
Hi Kevin,

I went back into the, Turn Windows Firewall on or off link, had a better
look at the settings. Try the following:
1. Go to the control panel enter on the Windows Firewall link.
2. Tab or shift + tab to the, Turn Windows Firewall on or off link, press
enter. When I press enter I land on an, Okay, button.
3. From the, Okay button, shift + tab 2 times, there are 4 radio buttons,
tab 1 time there's another set of 4 radio buttons. These 2 sets of radio
buttons are for Customizing 2 different types of Networks. When you, shift
+ tab 2 times, you are on the radio buttons for customizing the, Home or
work (private) network location settings. When you tab 1 time you are on
the radio buttons for customizing the Public network. Here's what I copied:

You can modify the firewall settings for each type of network location that
you use.

Home or work (private) network location settings
Turn on Windows Firewall
Block all incoming connections, including those in the list of allowed
programs
Notify me when Windows Firewall blocks a new program
Turn off Windows Firewall (not recommended)
Public network location settings
Turn on Windows Firewall
Block all incoming connections, including those in the list of allowed
programs
Notify me when Windows Firewall blocks a new program
Turn off Windows Firewall (not recommended)

4. Use your up / down arrow keys to make your selections for each type of
network settings. You might be able to tab through as well. Tabbing you
will need to experiment with. I used the arrow keys. I didn't find an,
Apply button, so after you make your choices in both sets of the radio
buttons tab to, Okay, press enter to save close.

I hope I explained this well enough to be understood without too much
difficulty hoepfully you'll get your Windows Firewall turned on.
HTH
Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Need help using Trip Adviser web site

2015-07-10 Thread Greg Washington
I am trying to read reviews of hotels on the trip adviser web site. The
review I want to read Jaws says read more clickable. I have tried hitting
enter on it and nothing happens. Also shift+enter and control+enter does
not activate the link. I tried routing jaws to pc curser and that did not
work as well. Any suggestions on activating this type of link? I am using
latest Jaws 16 with latest Internet Explorer on a Windows 7 computer.
