Hi rose,
All of your data should be there. To find installed programs, press the
Windows key and up arrow to all apps and press enter. In win10, all desktop
programs and all universal apps will be in the list. In the list itself, you
cannot use first letter navigation, but here is what you can do. Tab once
from the list of programs, and you will be in a list of all the letters in
the alphabet. Arrow to the letter you want and press enter twice. Important,
press enter twice. You will then be put in a list of programs that start
with just that letter. Take care, and please email me off list, because I
installed win10 in August, and I know everything about navigating win10 and
customizing it to work best with JAWS. Press windows + I brings up the
settings app, and you can change most of your settings in the nine groups of
settings that you can right arrow through until you get to the group you
want. One of the first things you should do, is press enter on the system
settings group and arrow to default programs. Press enter and tab through
and press the space bar on Internet. It will say that Edge is your default
browser, but tab to Internet Explorer and press the space bar on that. IE
will now be your default browser. I would install VLC media player for audio
and video. Once you do that, go back to default apps and press the space bar
on audio and tab to VLC and press space on that, and do the same for audio.
Next, you really want to press Windows + I to get to settings and right
arrow to privacy group and press enter. Arrow down to background apps and
turn most of them off. You do not need these apps to run in the background.
Warning... The newest update of JAWS reads these switches the opposite way.
When it says on, it is really off. Use JAWS 17.1214 to set these background
apps from on to off by just pressing the space bar on them. Warning... When
you press space on one of them to turn it off, JAWS takes you back to the
beginning. You have to tab back to where you were to the next app and turn
that off so it won't run in the background. Each time, you will be taken
back to the beginning, so you will have to tab through to the next one you
have not turned off yet. Once you get finished with that, you will have a
good start with win10. Please email me at:
jesusloves1...@gmail.com
I will help you to get win10 working for you just as well as windows 7 did.
It takes a lot of work to figure it all out on your own. Have a great one.

I got upgraded to Windows 10, only because of a hard disk crash and
replacement.
I managed to figure out how to get Jaws installed, kept getting a message to
tap to install it with Narrator, but eventually, and I don't know how,
managed to get to the right place. Authorized JAWS, set IE as default,
setup e-mail client. Still have to figure out HP Envy Printer/scanner, Open
Book, and how to navigate to find things in 10. Have not tried Cortana as I
don't have a microphone plugged in at this point.

It is not the same as 7, can't find all my installed programs, and they
removed what they thought were questionable programs such as JAWS, ... so,
figuring things out slowly.
Suggestions would be helpful, I have not found all the saved messages I kept
on Windows 10 but they say they saved all my data! Like I believe that,
LOL.
Have to find my medical spell checker eventually also.

Hi Mauricio,

I had this happen to me with Windows 7, & this is how I resolved the
problem.

Before doing the following I uninstalled 7Zip.

1. Highlight a zipped file.
2. From the context menu / application key I chose the, Open With, option.
3. From the list of recommended programs Windows Explorer was highlighted.
I tabbed to, Always use the selected program to open this kind of file,
checkbox & it was checked, I tabbed to, Okay, & pressed enter. When I
pressed enter on the Okay button it opened the zipped file to show what was
inside. I closed the zipped file & the zipped file was highlighted then, I
opened the context menu, & I'll be damned, the Extract All option was there!
Now, I reinstalled the 64 bit version of 7Zip & rebooted the computer.
After reinstalling / rebooting, I now have both the Extract All & 7Zip
options in the context menu.
Take care.

Thanks for the suggestion of the Companion software, but this is really more
about getting the "Extract All" option back where it belongs. For instance,
the application 7Zip does what I need; I simply would like to know if adding

Hi rose,
All of your data should be there.

It is not the same as 7, can't find all my installed programs, and they

figuring things out slowly.

Hey guys, currently I'm using windows 7 and jaws 15 but I have a new laptop
running windows 10 with the last version of jaws 17.
I haven't updated to the latest jaws 17 because I've been told it doesn't
work properly with windows 10. Right now I have no problems but I would
like to start using email on the new laptop. What do you all recommend for
an email client with this version of windows and jaws.

Can you post a Dropbox download link to the list so you don't have to send

Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 10!

2016-03-04 Thread David Moore

Hi rose,
All of your data should be there.

[JAWS-Users] Switching Braille tables on the fly with brailliant BI 40 and Jaws

2016-03-04 Thread Cristóbal
Hello list,

Is there a command with the Brailliant to be able to switch back and forth
on the fly between different Braille tables? I.E. English and Spanish?

I believe in JFW 15, there was mention of being able to execute something
like this with a dots 2-3-4-5-7, but I believe it was exclusive to the Focus
line of displays. It certainly doesn’t work with the BI 40.

I know I can go into the Jaws settings and change it that way, but that is
so tedious and inefficient. Perhaps there’s a faster way of doing this?

I’m running the latest JFW 17 and to the best of my knowledge, I have the
most up to date firmware on the BI40.

Thanks,

"then use CTRL + V to paste text into a file on the controller

does it say control+v pastes it to the controller's system, shouldn't
control+v paste it to the target's system?

You will discover other limitations as you go along. For example,
there are times when you might want to select some option on her

Use the CTRL + C keystroke to copy text with formatting from the

controller system. This is ideal for support personnel who want to
copy specific text from a log file on the target system.
Note: Remote Clipboard will not transfer files." (end quote)

Further to this, you cannot copy text from your Controller computer
to the target computer, so you will have to either type in the link
you want her to have or send it to her by E-mail.

When you are in a JAWS Tandem session, it is just as if you are
sitting physically in front of her computer, so everything will act
according to the settings on her PC, including her 40-minute mode of

JAWS.

I use JAWS Tandem frequently and find it very useful. However, for
security reasons, it does have its limitations.

Hope this helps,

hi gang, I might have the need to tandem with a friend to check out
what's the problem with her ailing computer, and I have a question I
can't find an answer to. rather than having my question not worded to
explain what it is I want to do, here it is:

I wanted to copy the address for Microsoft's Security (Safety)
Scanner from my computer to use it to download and run it on her
computer during the session. I expect not, but wasn't absolutely sure
because I heard of pressing insert+alt+tab to switch from her
computer to my computer, (and possibly back to her computer, although
this wasn't mentioned), and thought there might be a way of pasting
some text, or even a file, from my clip board to her computer after
switching back to

I realize she will have to download and install the same version of
the version I use, but will the tandem session talk at the demo speed
or my speed?

and are there any limitations of:

what I can do since her copy of JAWS is running as a demo?

what I can do as the controller if she had her own licensed copy of
JAWS running?

If I'm not mistaken, you can also have a running dialog using Notepad if
started through the Run dialog by the controlling computer. I'm almost
positive that at 1 time David Ferrin or Rick Justice & I were doing a Tandem
session, with either of them being the controlling computer, & we used
Notepad to communicate back & forth with 1 another. We were on the phone
with each other, but I think we were playing around to see if this Notepad
back & forth communication would work. Personally, whenever I've done a
Tandem session with someone both parties are always using telephone contact
just so the controlling computer person can explain to the target computer
person exactly what the controller is doing, so the target computer / person
doesn't freak out hearing a bunch of computer lingo that they might not be
used to hearing or understanding what's happening. As far as the Notepad
communication, hopefully Señor Ferrin or Señor Justice will chime in to
confirm what I'm saying about how it might work or, to say I'm full of

Take care.

does it say control+v pastes it to the controller's system, shouldn't
control+v paste it to the target's system?

Hi Mario,

While using JAWS Tandem, you can copy anything from her computer and

paste it somewhere else on her computer. You can also copy text from
her computer and paste it on your computer, but not the reverse; this
is one of the limitations.

You will discover other limitations as you go along. For example,
there are times when you might want to select some option on her
computer, but JAWS Tandem may not allow you to do so, but you can tell
her to do it herself.

Don, does this mean I can't perform a paste while working on her computer?

and could you explain what those limitations are?

Hi Mario,

I just copied the following exerpt from the JAWS Tandem Quick Start
Guide:

(Begin quote): "Remote Clipboard
Use the CTRL + C keystroke to copy text with formatting from the
target system, and then use CTRL + V to paste text into a file on the
controller system.

Don

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Tandum, passing my clip board

hi gang, I might have the need to tandem with a friend to check out
what's the problem with her ailing computer, and I have a question I
can't find an answer to. rather than having my question not worded to
explain what it is I want to do, here it is:

I wanted to copy the address for Microsoft's Security (Safety)
Scanner from my computer to use it to download and run it on her
computer during the session. I expect not, but wasn't absolutely sure
because I heard of pressing insert+alt+tab to switch from her
computer to my computer, (and possibly back to her computer, although
this wasn't mentioned), and thought there might be a way of pasting
some text, or even a file, from my clip board to her computer after
switching back to

her computer.

I realize she will have to download and install the same version of
the version I use, but will the tandem session talk at the demo speed
or my speed?

and are there any limitations of:

what I can do since her copy of JAWS is running as a demo?

what I can do as the controller if she had her own licensed copy of
JAWS running?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Tandem Communication Via Notepad

2016-03-04 Thread David Ferrin
This is true what mister Mike is saying. Note to folks doing a tandem
session over Skype or some other VOIP type of system. Years ago it was no
large deal for me to run a single sound card for all of my computing needs
but then I started helping out a guy with sinus trouble over Skype. The
result was I had to have him move his microphone because he was drowning out
everything I needed to hear. Now all of my systems have a dedicated sound
card for JAWS and I even have a couple of extras on the shelf just in case.
Nothing fancy at all, just a $12.95 card so I can do what I have to do. The
other case is when the person you are helping won't stop chattering, and you
have to turn their volume down to hear JAWS. Mike is easy to work with I
must point out, he asks questions of course but that is only because he
wants to understand what is being done to his system.

So far as to the contents of his stomach I have no idea.

As far as the Notepad
communication, hopefully Señor Ferrin or Señor Justice will chime in to
confirm what I'm saying about how it might work or, to say I'm full of
.LOL

Take care.

Hi all,
using jaws17 latest build with a win10 desktop.
I reinstalled windows over the top of itself after speaking to microsoft
accessibility helpdesk.
I needed to reinstall jaws after this.
Jaws won't start when the machine boots.
start for this user always is checked and start at the login screen is
checked.
I removed my antivirus before installing jaws.
I also ran Jaws as admin.
Before the reinstall of windows jaws would start at startup.
Any ideas what else I can try?
