Re: [JAWS-Users] setting up sam encoder with Jaws on a laptop with nonumpad

2017-05-19 Thread David Moore
Yes,
I use the laptop layout with JAWS all the time. We need to know which numpad
commands you need to use, and then I can give you the laptop equivalent
commands.
For example, numpad enter is the same as regular enter. With the laptop layout
turned on, you can use the caps lock as well as insert. You can use both. Caps
lock+comma reads the current character. Caps lock+K reads the current word and
so on.

Judy, for what it's worth, I agree with you. This is why I never tried

Unfortunately, we will have to struggle with the problem until universal

sighted want it. It's always based on what the sighted want, because we
are a small minority. However, we have made some strides, thanks to the
sighted, i.e. greater access to audio books, because the sighted decided
they liked them.

He needs the commands that allow you to select mp3 and mp3 pro, and the
command that allows you to click on the ok button to get to the
configuration window, where you can select server details, archive streaming
Etc. The only problem is, the keyboard on his Acer machine doesn't come with
a numpad.

Hi Mike,

What keystrokes does your friend need from the numpad? Jaws has, numpad
equivalent keystrokes for laptop users that don't have numpads, but since I
don't know didley about using a laptop I can't help y'all with the correct
keystrokes. If you post what you need I'm sure someone will be able to come

button to select it. Any ideas as to how to get around this?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Browsers and background audio

2017-05-19 Thread Scorpio
I'm not sure about other browsers, but Internet Explorer settings have a
section for multimedia on the advanced tab.

You will have the option to play videos or not. You would obviously press
the spacebar to select not to play them.

Sorry I can't help for Firefox, Chrome, Safari or other browsers, but I
would imagine that other browsers must have the same type of options.

Good luck.

I'm still trying to find the best way to deal with sites like CNET which
automatically launch audio/video on their pages.

First of all, can anyone tell me what is being used to play these
things? I don't think it's Flash. Is it javascript or something else?

Someone enlightened me to the fact that control-m will stop playback in
Firefox. Is Firefox the only browser that offers this option? Can
playback be stopped in either Chrome or IE?

Finally, is there anything in any of the browsers' settings that will
block this background media? I saw something in IE that *might* do it,
but I'm not sure. I couldn't find anything in either Firefox or Chrome
that seemed to have anything to do with this.

If it matters, I'm running JAWS 18 on Windows 10 Anniversary Home
edition with the latest versions of all 3 browsers mentioned.

Thanks,
Jeff

It seems to be browser dependent. As I said, control-m will stop
playback in Firefox. I'm looking for ways to stop or block playback in
both IE and Chrome.

In IE, there are options to not download images and sounds, but will any
of these options block this embedded media? If so, which option?

Alternatively, is there an extension or add-on that might work to solve
this problem?

Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks to all of the folks on the list for welcoming the new members. Changing
screen readers is never an easy thing, but I've been watching the chatter on
the GW News List and many of the users are diving in and starting to find many

Hundreds of users have taken advantage of the offer during this first week so
I'm sure the membership will continue to grow.

No, when you do alt+s to send an email, there is a way to tell it to close
the reply after sending rather than going back to the message itself that
you have just replied to.

I don't know if I understand your question. If you are asking how to close
an open email then all you have to do is press alt F4 or go to the next
email in the list of emails you have received. That will close the open one.

Hello all.

I'm not sure when this started, but I'm using JAWS 18 with the latest Creators
Update; and I have no sound for incoming mail or notifications.
I've looked through the JAWS settings and can find no place to change this.
I'm just curious as to why this occurs with Jaws and not NVDA.

I would appreciate any input.

Thanks.

Dan

[JAWS-Users] Browsers and background audio

2017-05-19 Thread Audiobookfan

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi friends,

I Have set my forms mode to manual but I still get the forms mode sounds which
I don't really want.
This is running Microsoft Windows 7 32 bit and using a web based application.
Any ideas how I can turn off the sound please?

Many thanks in anticipation,
