If you use the Jaws command, Insert-F11 it brings up the system tray and the
battery level should be listed there.

Re: [JAWS-Users] how to repair jaws

2017-08-16 Thread Adrian Spratt
Dennis,

I'll give you the instructions I took down the last time I spoke to FS tech
support. This was for JAWS 17 or 18, so I can't vouch that it also works for
15, but my guess is that it does. If you have misgivings about this, call FS
tech support to make sure. While these steps may look complicated at first
glance, they actually go pretty smoothly, so long as you have the .exe file for
your version and release number of JAWS in your system or know where to
download it from the FS website.

February 2017.
First, make sure you have the .exe file on your system for the JAWS build
you're running. You can download it from the FS/VFO website.
Unlike before, it doesn't seem to matter where you keep it on your system.
Close all running apps.
Highlight the JAWS .exe file.
Press shift-F10.
Arrow up to "Copy as path." Press enter.
Open the run dialog with Windows key-r.
Press control-v, then spacebar, then / (the forward slash key), then the word
"type", spacebar, and then the word "repair."
Let me try that command line a different way. After pressing control-v followed
by the spacebar, continue with /type repair
Then press enter.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 10 question

2017-08-16 Thread Joseph Lee
Hi,
Ever since Windows 10 Version 1507 (build 10240) hit the air in July 2015
(or shortly before), I did tell people why supporting Edge early is crucial:
some universal apps will use Edge rendering engine to display web content,
including (as some found out the hard way) Windows Store. Sometimes it is
best to wait for things to settle, but there are times when at least some
kind of a foundation should be laid to provide support for a technology
later. I and others had a heated debate on a Windows 10 forum in July this
year regarding this matter, with the question of who is to blame the most
taking the center stage. In the end, both MS and VFO are to blame:
Microsoft, for not communicating clearly as to how screen readers could
achieve what they want, and VFO, for insisting for stability. I've been
preaching this for the last two to three years and will continue to say the
following as long as Windows 10 ecosystem lives: in Windows 10 ecosystem,
praying for stability will get us NOWHERE.
In regards to Edge and JAWS, there is a showstopper bug I'm following: as of
latest preview build for Fall Creators Update, no screen reader (including
Narrator itself) will announce notifications, partly caused by under the
hood API changes that might be responsible for suppressing a UIA event from
firing. If JAWS is supposed to rely on this, then this will create a
situation where Edge support is there but important bits won't work right
away.
Cheers,
joseph

Hello Cuong,

Holding down shift key and pressing F11 works whether or not virtual ribbon
is being used. This inserts a worksheet. The old command from Excel 2003
for deleting still works in Excel 2013 whether or not the virtual ribbon is
used. You might try it to see if it works for Excel 2016. Use the
keystroke of Alt+E followed by L. You should get a dialog box to confirm
sheet deletion.

Take care.

Currently, I use Excel 2016 with Jaws 18.0, and I turned on Jaws' virtual
ribbon for easily use, but when this feature turns on, I can't find the way
to insert, or delete a worksheet within a workbook. Sounds like Jaws can't
access it from the home tab. I can insert a sheet by turning off the virtual
ribbon menu, but I prefer it because I don't want to remember a lot of
command, so I need help to access them without turning off Jaws virtual
ribbon menu.
Any help would be appreciated.

Windows 10 and the latest version of JAWS.

I'm new to Jaws, so I hope this isn't a stupid question. Is there a hotkey
which I can use to hear the status of my laptop's battery?

Kind regards

Morne

[JAWS-Users] Reading Categories in Outlook 2013

2017-08-16 Thread East, Robin
Hi Folks,

Using latest JAWS 18, MS Office Outlook 2013 on Win 10 machine

how can one make JAWS 18 read the category name if the order of the columns
show as follows: from, categories, subject, received, size.
Is there a way to make JAWS read them in this order as they are presented on
the screen?

Yes, provided that screen readers add support for it. Edge can also be used
to read PDF's.

Hi all,
Actually I think edge does give an option to save. On my other computer at
my working base, it somehow became default, so, if I want to download say a
pdf file, then edge opens rather than firefox. bBy tabbing it can still give
you buttons feedback, though not much else. I was then able to save a file
without having to go to adobe but after this process, and I have also
managed to print a pdf from edge. However, I have not achieved much more and
I am too, looking forward to have it become accessible to us. Although I
am using firefox, I will not say I greatly like it.

I use IE 11, it has a way to save favorites, Chrome so far as I could tell
when it was the default on my other computer did not, and Firefox always has
locked up on me regardless of the configuration or computer I had it on.

Edge saves nothing according to sighted cousin not even with a mouse.

I won't mind giving Edge a spin just for the hell of it, but I suspect it
won't be as good as Firefox or even Chrome for quite some time, as far as
convenience ad ease of use with JAWS goes. For the moment at least, you're
definitely better off using those browsers. As Ed said, Edge support is
still in the preparation stage. Apparently you can use it with NVDA, but how
well it works, I have no idea.
