Re: [JAWS-Users] how to repair jaws
Dennis, I'll give you the instructions I took down the last time I spoke to FS tech support. This was for JAWS 17 or 18, so I can't vouch that it also works for 15, but my guess is that it does. If you have misgivings about this, call FS tech support to make sure. While these steps may look complicated at first glance, they actually go pretty smoothly, so long as you have the .exe file for your version and release number of JAWS in your system or know where to download it from the FS website. February 2017. First, make sure you have the .exe file on your system for the JAWS build you're running. You can download it from the FS/VFO website. Unlike before, it doesn't seem to matter where you keep it on your system. Close all running apps. Highlight the JAWS .exe file. Press shift-F10. Arrow up to "Copy as path." Press enter. Open the run dialog with Windows key-r. Press control-v, then spacebar, then / (the forward slash key), then the word "type", spacebar, and then the word "repair." Let me try that command line a different way. After pressing control-v followed by the spacebar, continue with /type repair Then press enter. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Dennis Long Sent: Wednesday, August 16, 2017 4:51 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] how to repair jaws Hi, how do I repair a jaws install if it is acting up? Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 10 question
Hi, Ever since Windows 10 Version 1507 (build 10240) hit the air in July 2015 (or shortly before), I did tell people why supporting Edge early is crucial: some universal apps will use Edge rendering engine to display web content, including (as some found out the hard way) Windows Store. Sometimes it is best to wait for things to settle, but there are times when at least some kind of a foundation should be laid to provide support for a technology later. I and others had a heated debate on a Windows 10 forum in July this year regarding this matter, with the question of who is to blame the most taking the center stage. In the end, both MS and VFO are to blame: Microsoft, for not communicating clearly as to how screen readers could achieve what they want, and VFO, for insisting for stability. I've been preaching this for the last two to three years and will continue to say the following as long as Windows 10 ecosystem lives: in Windows 10 ecosystem, praying for stability will get us NOWHERE. In regards to Edge and JAWS, there is a showstopper bug I'm following: as of latest preview build for Fall Creators Update, no screen reader (including Narrator itself) will announce notifications, partly caused by under the hood API changes that might be responsible for suppressing a UIA event from firing. If JAWS is supposed to rely on this, then this will create a situation where Edge support is there but important bits won't work right away. For the moment at least, you're definitely better off using those browsers. As Ed said, Edge support is still in the preparation stage. Apparently you can use it with NVDA, but how well it works, I have no idea. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mr. Ed Sent: Monday, August 14, 2017 7:09 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows10 question Hi, Edge does not work with Jaws at this time. [JAWS-Users] Status of my battery
Hello listers, Windows 10 and the latest version of JAWS. I'm new to Jaws, so I hope this isn't a stupid question. Is there a hotkey which I can use to hear the status of my laptop's battery? Hi, Yes, provided that screen readers add support for it. Edge can also be used to read PDF's.
