 No sometimes it will not go quietly or without sighted assistance. Not sure
 why either some machines it can be uninstalled fairly easily and others not.

 I will have to disagree.
 I have successfully un-installed Avast on several machines without the
 removal tool.
 Generally speaking, the trick to un-installing any program,
 is to make sure the program is not running before attempting the un-install.
 The ease of doing this may not be apparent if the software is running as a
 service.

 Folks, the only way to successfully uninstall avast is by using their
 removal tool. You will be told there was an error when uninstalling avast
 when You attempt to do so threw the control panel. And it will still be
 listed in Your list of programs as well as in the system tray. Also if You
 attempt to delete the alwil Software folder it will tell You that access was
 denied. You will have no choice but to use their removal tool. Which You can
 find from their website at avast.com. Once again You must run this removal
 tool in safe mode which renders jaws useless. So, You, will need sighted
 assistance to complete this process. I have attempted to do all the steps
 which Brian listed and was successful at doing them all. However avast still
 remains when You attempt to uninstall it the normal way that You would
 uninstall a program.

 First off, thanks for the information on avast's version 5 accessibility.
 Second, You're correct in that You will have to use the uninstall tool in
 safe mood which makes jaws unusable. You will need sighted assistance to
 complete this project.

 Hi list. I tried the new Avast 5.0 free version out on my PC this
 morning,
 found it inaccessible with Jaws because alwil Software has changed the
 interface into a graphical interface, so I restored my computer using my
 backup I created with Image for Windowswhich already had Avast 4 Home
 Edition. Now, what I would like to do is uninstall Avast 4 Home Edition
 and
 use Microsoft Security Essentials instead. I have tried to uninstall
 Avast
 in the past, but it didn't completely uninstall and was still in the
 system
 tray when I rebooted. Right now I'm still using Avast 4 Home Edition and
 Windows XP Professional SP3. I'm using Jaws 9.0, the latest build. I
 have
 downloaded alwil Software's uninstall utility, but I'm told I will need
 to
 use it in

 That I don't know. With regualr folders they usually go back automatically
 to the original location.
 I just found this tutorial in a mail forum, you may want to give ita try.
 Have not checked to see if this will work as I'd hate to mess with my
 outlook setup but since the damage was done already it can't hurt to try:

 Explore to the Local Settings folder for your identity, then Application
 Data - Identites The location for the settings folder is: Documents and
 Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities.
 There will be several folders with #'s for names with subfolders
 Microsoft -
 Outlook Express. Once you find the one with your e-mails. MOVE, Delete or
 Rename the Folders.dbx file. The next time you open OE it will rebuild the
 folders list (and the missing links). You'll have to re-sort everything,
 but
 the missing folder should show up.

 As always, use at your own risk, hope this helps

Well that would depend. If you say uninstalled JAWS then did a system
restore JAWS will be back on as your system was reverted to a date when JAWS
was present. Same is true if you installed JAWS but you then reverted to a
date where JAWS wasn't present.

where now do I install the latest of windows live messenger?

 Unless you are running the very latest version of jaws I would not recommend
 an upgrade of messenger. version 9 of windows live is not accessible to
 anyone using anything lower than jaws 10 with latest upgrades. I learned the
 hard way and was glad to be able to find a way to undo this installment.
 If you do accidently get 'tricked' into having to install the new messenger,
 you can revert back to a working previous version, by first uninstalling
 anything related to the new messenger and then installing windows live
 messenger 8.1.

rather strange, it has only been happening since a few days ago, but I thought
it was because sendspace was telling me that I'd reached my daily limit, but it
doesn't seem to be that at all.Your help would be much appreciated. Kimmie.

[JAWS-Users] Having trouble in windows messenger.

2008-11-18 Thread Kimarain
Hi guys. Could someone please explain how I can do a shortcut for windows
messenger. Every time I go to it, it keeps telling me it's not available
and I want it on my desktop. Where can I go to do this? I'm just about
losing my patience.
Kimber.

hello;

give these steps a try;

   1, start menu;

2, p=programs;

3, down arrow until you hear, windows messenger;, or you could press the
letter W, as long as there's more then one program which starts with the
letter,w, and there should be, at least windows media player.

4, press applications key;

5, up arrow, to properties, press enter;
now your on the shortcut properties page.

6, now tab until you hear, shortcut key, hot-key none,
here you can type the desired hot-key, example,
if you wanted alt+ctrl+w, you would type a w, and press enter.

I hope this helps you.
