Re: [JAWS-Users] accessible games

2010-01-14 Thread Michael Feir
There are a couple of key web sites which people who want to find accessible
games ought to know about. One of these is:

www.pcsgames.net

There, you'll find lists of all known accessible games for Windows, Mac and
Linux. Phil Vlasak, a developer himself, keeps a marvelously up-to-date and
complete list with game descriptions and links to the various sites. Also,
there is another site with lots of reviews and information called:

www.audiogames.net

There, you can also find issues of Audyssey magazine. It's a free online
magazine all about accessible games for blind people. I started it back in
1996. These days, the current editor is Ron Schamerhorn. He's hard at work
on the next issue which should be out some time soon.

I hope this gets people in search of fun off to a good start. If you want to
discuss games further, feel free to contact me privately. Also, you can join
the Audyssey discussion group by sending a message to:

I know I axed this question several moons ago but lost all of the replies.
What games do most blind folks play here and what website would someone
recommend when wanting to download free but accessible games? Peace

Re: [JAWS-Users] Trouble With New Netbook and JAWS

2009-12-03 Thread Michael Feir
I have that happen occasionally on pretty much any computer I've used Jaws
on. I skipped over version 8 so I don't have any direct experience with it.
However, here are a couple of things I've found helpful. You can try
minimizing everything and then going back to internet explorer. That works
sometimes. What I found worked most consistantly is to use the jaws links
list to move right to the link in question. After that, you route the jaws
cursor to the pc cursor and then do a right click. I'm fairly certain that
your netbook wouldn't be the problem here.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Trouble With New Netbook and JAWS

I recently purchased a new netbook. It is an Acer Aspire One. It has JAWS 8
with Windows XP Home installed on it. I tried to download several files
this evening and neither the Applications key nor the right mouse button
would work properly. Instead of displaying the option to download a file,
it would merely allow you to save the web page and not the file being
linked to. I had my dad, who is sighted, use the touch-screen mouse pad and
download several files. He was able to do it without problems. Every time I
used the arrow keys, pressing the Applications key or the right mouse
button only resulted in pulling down a menu to change the background
display. Are there certain netbooks that JAWS does not interface well with?
Any help would be appreciated.
