[JAWS-Users] Fast switching feature
Hi Christopher and all, Thanks alot for the feedback regarding the password protect screensaver issue,. If you don't mind, I've got another one for you. On a computer with Windows XP Home there are two user accounts, JAWS has been setup such that it starts and speaks under both (by putting JAWS into the startup folder for all users). This also works fine, if the computer is started, JAWS comes up and talks on the login screen, and when you then log in as either user, JAWS is working fine. The problem is that when one is working under one account and wants to switch over to the other account. When using "logoff" to log off, you get the login screen, JAWS speaks, and one can log into the other account with no problem, if you use the "switch user" functionality of Windows, then the first time one switches to the other account, also here, JAWS speaks both on the login screen and also then under the new account, but when you use the "switch user" the second time to go back to the original account, then JAWS is just silent and does not speak at all! Due to the fact that there is no speech, if a sighted person now assists you by logging in with the original user account, JAWS speaks again normally once you are logged in. This problem only exists when using the "switch user" functionality, not when using "logoff" to switch user accounts. however, when using "logoff" also the second time, then although JAWS works and speaks on the login screen, the settings are different (i.e. we have made JAWS speak faster, and then just there at this login screen JAWS is speaking slower). So may be this helps in narrowing this problem down. Any advice on this one. kind regards Mukthar Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: http://www.jaws-users.com Address for the list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com To post to this group, send email to jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help from Mailman with your account Put the word help in the subject or body of a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Use the following form in order to contact the management team http://www.jaws-users.com/managers.php
Re: [JAWS-Users] Password protect
That is what it seems like at least so far with the password protect dialog. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Christopher Hallsworth Sent: 13 June 2007 02:28 PM To: JAWS-Users Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Password protect Ah, so it sounds like if JAWS runs as an application it will not read anything that is related to password protection, correct? [JAWS-Users] Password protect
Hi guys, A friend of mine has both JAWS 7.1 and 8 loaded on the same machine. When the machine starts up, JAWS 8 is running as a service. She has the password protected option enabled which can be found under the screensaver tab under display properties which simply means that when the computer has been idle for a little while and the screensaver kicks in, if you tap any key to de-activate the screensaver, the password protect option pops up on the screen where you have to log in to get access to the computer. The problem she is experiencing is that if she unloads JAWS from memory, loads 7.1 which is now running as an application, if the screensaver kicks in, any key is pressed, JAWS does not read the password protect dialog box that is now visible on the screen, has anyone come across this before or is there an obvious explanation for this that I might be missing. Any responses to this dilemma will be greatly appreciated. kind regards Khan Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: http://www.jaws-users.com Address for the list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com To post to this group, send email to jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help from Mailman with your account Put the word help in the subject or body of a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Use the following form in order to contact the management team http://www.jaws-users.com/managers.php
Re: [JAWS-Users] Service and application
Hi there, Thanks a lot for the explanation. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Christopher Hallsworth Sent: 13 June 2007 01:51 PM To: JAWS-Users Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Service and application OK, when JAWS starts as a service it will remain loaded from the log on screen (if you have one) till your computer completely shuts down. However, if JAWS starts as an application JAWS will shut down before Windows does, therefore not reading the log off prompts. Hope that helps.
