Hi Kathy,

My favorite web site for downloading free music is SSMunch. It is a music
search engine that lets you search for songs by artist or title. You can
listen to, or download the ones you like in MP3 format. I have created a
number of folders containing dozens of songs that I have downloaded from
this site which I subsequently burned to CD. And it is very JAWS
accessible. Check it out:

The fact is discussing how to de-compile or crack an executable file is
illegal and as such not permitted on any list at all under this domain name.
I do agree with you Kate but my previous statement stands for anybody who
might ever consider posting such information on here. Such people will be
removed from this list and also banned from ever returning.

Just a thought, but I'm wondering why your unwilling to share. If a person
is learning something like this and your at least willing to give the
warning that it may cause certain problems, then it's really up to them to
proceed or not proceed with the information. If they make the file unusable,
could they not repair jaws and go from there? I mean, at least to me, this
seems to be a listserve where people can ask questions and learn from one
another. It seems sort of odd to say yes you can do procedure X and then
saying up front, I ain't tellin you how. That kind of responce sounds
elitist at best and snobbish at worst. If your really worried about someone
being angry at you if they don't do the procedure correctly, then just don't
bring it up in the first place.

It just doesn't seem right for someone to decide what information another
person can or can't comprehend and use effectively. We all get responces
like this day in and day out from sighted people who second guess our
abilities. Doesn't make sense to do the same sort of thing to each other
here, too. We should all be adult enough to know our own level of comfort
with our computer tinkering skills. And we should all be adult enough to
know how to handle the consequences of anything we do decide to try.

This is only my opinion on the matter. I know others might disagree and
that's fine. I just wanted to put in my own two cents.

you can't do it with scripting. it can only be done with a hex
editor, and no I won't tell you what file to do it to or what to look
for to remove it.
Because if you don't know what you are doing the file can be come
unusable.

You have to replace the text that's between the quotes. Everything else
must stay the same. Only the text that's between the quotes should be

you can't do it with scripting. it can only be done with a hex editor, and
no I won't tell you what file to do it to or what to look for to remove
it.
Because if you don't know what you are doing the file can be come
unusable.

 Hi Group,

A few years back, someone sent me some scripts to personalized my Jaws
startup. I've found that I can't use these scripts in Jaws 10. I'll
 post
them below. Maybe someone can point out what changes need to be made
 to

make these scripts work with Jaws 10. I'm just starting to learn
 scripting
and I'm not familiar with how to update these scripts to make them work
 with
Jaws 10. Any input would be appreciated.
 Jack

If you would like for Jaws to give you the time and date at startup, do
 the
 following.
 1. press Insert+0.
 2. Press ctrl+shift+D.
 3. press ctrl+L
 4. Arrow down untill you hear autostart event.
 5. press enter
 6. down arrow untill you find the following 2 lines

 endIf
 endIf ; DefaultFirstTime == 0

 7. just above where it says, EndIf, create a blank line. You do this
 by
putting your cursor on the E, in EndIf, then hitting enter. Now arrow
 up

once to the blank line you just made.
Now, paste in the following text. Remember to personalize the user
 name.

 SayString(Hello user name, Today is)
 Say ( SysGetDate(), ot_string)
 Say (SysGetTime(), ot_string)
 SayString(Have a good day!)

** Note that you can change the last line to say whatever you want.
 Have

 a
good day is just an example.**
 8. Now hit ctrl+S to recompile the scripts.
 9. You can now hit alt-F4 to close the scripts.

Hello Jack,

I tried the scripts and with some simple spacing changes they worked fine.
Remember to compile them with CTRL-S before exiting the script manager. I
am starting at step 7. Here is how I changed them:

7. just above where it says, EndIf, create a blank line. You do this by
putting your cursor on the E, in EndIf, then hitting enter. Now arrow up
once to the blank line you just made.
Now, paste in the following text. Remember to personalize the user name.

Do you have a recommendation of a program to convert / encode the DVD
folder to a single file? Perhaps an AVI, MP4, or whatever. I am not very
concerned about which, except good compression is helpful. Due to my
other physical handicaps, it is difficult for me to locate disks. I would
like to have a handy copy of my favorites always available on my computer.

Hello Stewart,

DVD Flick is a DVD authoring tool and not DVD copying software. However,
there is a good DVD copying program that is free called DVDFab HD
Decrypter. You can choose to copy the entire DVD or just the main
movie. You can also use it to copy disks from XBox 360, Play Station 3
and cell phones, although I have never done so. All you need to do to
copy a full DVD is insert the DVD, in DVDFab HD Decrypter click on the
full disk and activate the start button in the program. You will need
to use the JAWS cursor to find the full disk choice and use the
keyboard to simulate a left mouse button click on the choice. You can
use the tab key to find (and change if desired) the destination folder
and the start button. The entire DVD will be ripped into a folder on the
hard drive. The folder will contain an audio_TS and a Video_TS folder.
You can then use a program like Image Burn to burn the DVD folder to a
new DVD disk.

In Image Burn you need to choose the build choice from the mode menu.
When you do so, the output menu will show on the menu bar. The choice
that should be checked in the output menu is device. With mode set to
build and output to device you can use the browse for a folder
choice under the file menu. You should browse to the folder that
contains the audio_TS and video_ts folders and open it. With a blank DVD
in the drive you can then choose write from the file menu and follow
the prompts. Here are links on Sendspace for the two programs if you are
interested.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/d87irw

Write me off list if you would like to discuss the programs further.

Take care.

Hello Don,

DVD Flick is a good DVD authoring program and is free. You can use the
tab key to move between controls like add file, change destination,
etc. However, when using it a person needs to use the JAWS refresh
command to make the toolbar visible and then use the JAWS cursor and
simulate mouse clicks to activate the various buttons like project
settings and convert to DVD. The JAWS cursor has to also be used in
the settings dialog where the tabs are shown vertically and with lines
of other information between them. So, it does take a while to learn
how to use the program. Although it is a DVD authoring program, if a
person goes into the project settings and picks the burning tab, there
is a checkbox that can be checked to tell the program to burn the
project after encoding. A person can use the program with JAWS, but it
might take a while to figure out. Below are a couple messages I sent
to another member of the list a while ago about DVD authoring and
burning programs.

If you are using Vista Home Premium or Ultimate then your computer has
Windows DVD Maker. I have found that it uses pretty standard types of
controls and is quite accessible. It handles quite a few of the video
file
formats such as .AVI, .MPG, .WMV and others. You can find it under the
all

programs menu.

If you don't have Vista Home Premium or Ultimate you can download and

Hi Folks,

I just downloaded both the current version of Winamp as well as the
necessary scripts.
Any tips or tricks for installing the winamp program? The scripts appear
to

be self installing so no worries in that respect.
Do I install the scripts first or Winamp first?
I am using the last version of Jaws 8 and Windows XP-Pro.

Is it being picked up in the device manager?

You may want to go into the device manager and check under the USB
controllers if there's a mass storage device being picked up.

If that's the case, then you will want to uninstall all of the USB devices
listed there, restart your computer, and let Windows recreate the USB
 devices plugged into the computer.

You haven't said whether you've tried plugging in the drive on another
 port,
so my fix above is in case you have tried plugging it into another port,
 and
 you had the same results.

Like I said, this is the fix for a problem such as yours.

Also, you never mentioned whether you've managed to connect this device to
your computer in the past and whether it's been working fine at that
 point.

Let us know some more information and we'll try to help if possible.

If the drive came with driver CD's, and you are running Windows 98, which
 I
can't remember if you are or not, then you would plop in the CD, install
 the
software, then plug in the drive.

Knowing 98 the way I do, you'll no doubt have to restart your computer for
 the changes to take effect.

If you're running XP, then, more than likely, the CD won't help you, but
 you
 never know.

Most drives only come with driver CD's for Windows 98 computers, as those
are the only ones that will not recognize the drive.

Another thing I just thought about is if you're running 98, and the drive
 is
formatted as NTFS, then you won't get it to recognize the drive, no matter
 what you do.

You may want to take the drive to someone else's computer to see if it
 gets
recognized there on the other computer, at least to rule out that the
 drive
 is bad.

You might want to Google your problem, detailing the model and serial
 number
of your drive, if you have it, and the problem you're having, and see if
 you
can turn up anything that way.

If you'd like, let me know the model of your drive, and the size, as well
 as
what operating system you're using, and I'll run a cursory Google search
 for
the problem for you, and post my results.

then you don't need any drivers.
If the drive needs formatting. You can go to control panel, admin
tools, computer management. See if it sees the drive in there, and if
it does you can right click on it to format the drive.
You might have to rout jaws to pc and look around the bottom of the
window to see the drives on the system.
Also you make sure you hear the drive power up, and if you got access
to another computer with a USB port. Try to see if it sees the drive.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] external harddrive question

If the drive came with driver CD's, and you are running Windows 98,
  which
  I
can't remember if you are or not, then you would plop in the CD,
  install
  the
software, then plug in the drive.

Knowing 98 the way I do, you'll no doubt have to restart your computer
  for
  the changes to take effect.

If you're running XP, then, more than likely, the CD won't help you,
  but
  you
  never know.

Most drives only come with driver CD's for Windows 98 computers, as
  those
are the only ones that will not recognize the drive.

Another thing I just thought about is if you're running 98, and the
  drive
  is
formatted as NTFS, then you won't get it to recognize the drive, no
  matter
  what you do.

You may want to take the drive to someone else's computer to see if it
  gets
recognized there on the other computer, at least to rule out that the
  drive
  is bad.

You might want to Google your problem, detailing the model and serial
  number
of your drive, if you have it, and the problem you're having, and see
  if
  you
can turn up anything that way.

If you'd like, let me know the model of your drive, and the size, as
  well
  as
what operating system you're using, and I'll run a cursory Google
  search
  for
the problem for you, and post my results.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Music on Stream

I am new on this list and new in the field of adaptive technology having
only worked in this field for just a few months. I work for a store called
Vision Dynamics and have a work related task for which I could use some
help. My employer wants me to put a CD of music on the Victor Reader
Stream for demonstration purposes. My work computer uses JAWS and windows
media player. I have tried copying and pasting the CD files onto the
Stream. However, this procedure did not work. I was told by Humanware
that the CD files must be ripped into MP3 files before putting them on the
Stream. Does anyone know how to rip CD files into MP3 files using JAWS?
Please also note that my work computer does not have a CD burner. Hope
someone can help me with this work related task.
Thank you in advance for your support.

Folks, if you ever lose the icon out of your system tray and can't
 figure
out how to get it back I have an alternative method of accomplishing the
same thing. Place the following command in your run dialog or in an icon
 some place.

 rundll32 shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll

It brings up the very same screen.

Thanks to everybody for the good wishes this day. In case anybody is
interested it's number 49 as a matter of fact. We all owe the creation of
this list ETC to my wife for first introducing me to JAWS back in 1996.
 She
didn't want me to be left behind in the world of technology and that's
 when
she made the discovery of the 30 day trial program that the then Henter
Joyce company offered for $39.95. Before meeting her I bought a screen
reader for $995 that was absolutely worthless and it made me very
discouraged regarding Windows and computers in general. There was no way
 in
the world I was going to pay for another such program without at least
 first
trying it out to see if it worked or not. The rest as they say is history,
between self teaching and learning from others who are much smarter than I
am I've learned what I know today. Also I must credit this list for
 forcing
me to learn a lot of new things like writing my own HTML code ETC. So to
celebrate I'm taking the day off, it's out to lunch and then just goofing
off this afternoon. Have a great day to all and thank you again.

You might be able to use the mic jack for input if you use an atenuated
 patch cord.

I was planning to use the line out on my cassette player. If I use my
laptop, the only option I know of is the mic jack. Another ooption is to
 use
my wife's desktop computer. Is that what I need to do?

I ALSO RECOMMEND GOLDWAVE, BUT I WOULDN'T CONNECT TO THE MIC JACK, YOUR
SYSTEM SHOULD HAVE A LINE-IN JACK THAT WOULD BETTER TO USE SINCE YOU WILL
PROBABLY BE USING A LINE-OUT FEATURE OF YOUR CASSETTE PLAYER.

Hi,

I want to copy some cassette tapes to my computer. I know that I need a

 software
that likes Jaws and does a good job with the recording?

Thanks,

I've got the beta version installed.
Should I remove it before installing the real deal, or will things be
 overwritten OK?

 Hi:
For sometime I been meaning to ask: After you have scrolled through a long
list of links and finally find the one you want, is there a way to get to
the results of that link or at least back to that link quickly? Most URL's
return you to the top and you have to scroll through all of those links,
plus more to find what you were looking for.
 Any help would be appreciated,
 George R. Marshall

 Hey David,

Thanks for telling me about the program. I downloaded the program and it
 is AWESOME!!! It is so
very easy to use and is doing exactly what I wanted it to do. In case
 anyone is interested, there
is a 30 day free download trial period with the program. I just
downloaded it today, but I have
already purchased the program. Yes, it really is that good. Again,
 thanks for the info.
