Accessible forms in MS Excel

Presenter: Andrew Downy from Australia

Thursday Jan. 12 at 11 Pacific, noon Mountain, 1 Central and 2 Eastern

You may have missed the announcements for this valuable Webinar with
holidays and a vacation from work. Andrew will be presenting live from
Australia

Andrew will begin with a brief introduction to Excel and will give some
examples of when it is appropriate to use it as a form. He will then
demonstrate some techniques for reducing confusion when using Excel with a
screen reader including naming worksheets and hiding unnecessary cells.
Participants will then be taken through the process of defining column and
row headings. This becomes crucial for screen reader access when
spreadsheets grow in size and/or complexity. An important option when
setting up an Excel form is defining rules for what may be entered into a
cell. This facility will be demonstrated, with specific suggestions to
improve clarity for screen reader users.

Other Excell features to be covered include:

· Using comments to improve clarity;

· The potentially tricky locking of cells;

·

· An introduction to Excel formulae

You can obtain the sample form from:

http://easi.cc/archive/andrew2017/sample-form.xlsx

You can register from the EASI Webinar promo page:

startup sound does not play. this is why when you run jaws in 40
minute mode then shut down and the next time you start the computer
jaws announces in order to use jaws in 40 minute mode again you must
restart your computer.
there is a way to disable the windows 10 quick start but I will not
include this unless someone asks!

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Windows 10 crashes; safe mode & restore?

Hello Gang:

I have a windows 10 laptop that has been working fine for almost two
months. Yesterday, right after jaws came up, I heard a question
similar to:

"Hello, how do you like this picture. We will be sending you more, et
cetra." Even though I do not sign in with a password, I was able to
find the
sign in button, and struck the space bar. However, the computer
crashed. as
in shut down. I thought it was automatically re-starting, for some
unknown

reason. Did a forced re-start. Heard similar info. Found sign in button.
Space bar. Computer shut down.

One of the times, I heard something about starting in the locked mode.

Now, the computer starts normally, as it pertains to the sound and
humming.

However, there is no sound. Not even the windows start up sound. The
computer automatically shuts down in about a minute and half, after I
press

the start button.

Without sighted help how do I get it to start in safe mode? Since
narrator

has been so good in windows 10, will it allow me to do a system restore?

Sighted help might arrive, sometime tomorrow. But, I was just
wondering if

I could do it using jaws and narrator.

Thanks, and Merry Christmas. He is The Reason for the season.

Neil

updates. I changed it from automatic to download but let me choose

to install them. I have treat optional the same way as recommended
unchecked. When the big load of updates came out on Tuesday, or maybe
Wednesday, they were downloaded and installed. GRRR!

Is there something else I should have done? Thanks, Karen

It is not running smoothly on Win 10.

Anna, I'm no expert, but your question made me rethink my response I
was

going to offer. kb3035583 does not provide any security patch to a
vulnerability, it is merely an update that reminds and facilitates
users

of 7 or 8.1 to reserve the free offer of upgrading to 10. so, I think
not having kb3035583 won't necessarily prevent the computer from being
upgraded to windows 10. as for the upgrade being done automatically,
I'm

not sure. but heed Gerald's post about changing the settings from
automatic to manual, and uncheck to get recommended updates. after
7/29/16, all worries of automatically being upgraded to windows 10
should be over, and if you're still on 7 or 8.1, it should be safe to
return windows updates to automatic.

If you are using Win 7 or 8,

1. Run command Windows-R together
2. Type "sndvol" without the punctuation marks and press
enter.
3. If you accidentally muted your speakers, tab once and
press the spacebar. This should unmute them.

This is for cases when you muted everything from your
soundcard. If you just muted Jaws, insert-space followed by
the layered keystroke S should unmute it.
