[JAWS-Users] Renaming a control

2018-07-10 Thread Terry Chaney
I've been poking around in the help topics and can't find the command
that allows the re classing of a non-standard control. Although I'd like
to know what the command is, I'd appreciate just as much knowing what I
should type in the search.

[JAWS-Users] Kindle books

2018-02-17 Thread Terry Chaney
Several months ago Eric D. sent out an announcement concerning Amazon
Kindle books accessibility

with JFW.  There was a property in the book to be checked before
purchase that needed to be there and I simply don't remember. Does
anyone out there know?

[JAWS-Users] Jart configuration

2017-12-23 Thread Terry Chaney

I'd like to confirm a couple of understandings about Jart.

#1 it will open and work with docx files?

#2 the command "screenreader mode" must be on the clipboard to make it
work optimally with Jaws?

also if I do get it to work in screenreader mode, do I need to have that
command on the clipboard before I start the program each time, or does
it remember as I would expect.

[JAWS-Users] serious xm radio

2017-12-19 Thread Terry Chaney
Is anyone successfully streaming serious xm radio on their computer?
The last time I looked, their cite was a disaster and not worth trying
to figure out but that was a couple of years ago.  I'm not quite ready
to plunk down money to fiddle around unless I know that someone else is
having some success.

2017-11-18 Thread Terry Chaney
I also tried and what happened is that it started in the correct place
but essentially copied to the end of the page.

This method of copping text from a website doesn't work for me. Try this, go
to the Bard site pick out a book and then try to copy the description of the
book. It doesn't seem to copy, instead what you will have copied is the
number of books that are listed on the page or something like that. In any
event you will not have copied the description of the book you were trying
to copy. You cannot copy the description using ctrl shift right arrow to
select it one word at a time and then ctrl C to copy the selected text.
Neither can you place a marker at the title which is the first of the
description you want to copy and then placing an m at the end of the
description to complete the block to be copied and then pressing ctrl C to
copy it. Try it it doesn't work.

Steve,

This is useful information, but I believe you need to correct it in two
ways.

In step 2, here you're selecting, not copying, text. It's important because
you can do other things with selected text besides copying.

In step 4, I believe the "append to clipboard" command, a JAWS function, is
JAWS key+Windows key+c. As you know, control-v is MS's paste command.

Doesn't setting a temporary placemarker method work for you, Terry?

1. Go to the top (or bottom) of the text you want to copy, and set a temp
placemarker with windows-control-k.

2. Go to the end of the text you want to copy and press the dual-layer
keystroke insert-space then the letter M to copy between the placemarker and
the marked point where your virtual cursor is located.

3. Press Control-C to copy to the clipboard.

4. If you want to append additional stuff to the clipboard, do the same
thing as above, except instead of copying the marked selection to the
clipboard control-C, use control-V instead.

Is there a way to copy information from a web page to the clipboard in
Google Chrome. I can get a single line using the regular method but
no luck with information below that line.

[JAWS-Users] word 207 problems

2017-10-16 Thread Terry Chaney
I'm using word 207 and very recently have found that word documents are
sluggish and even highly problematic to edit using Jaws 18.  I did talk
with a couple of tech support people at vfw, we installed the latest
version of JFW and though it made things a bit better it didn't really
solve the problem.  I do not reliably get character echo when using the
arrow keys and often cannot hear a line read.  I'm just wondering if
anyone else out there is using office 207 with word in windows 10 and
having issues with the latest version of Jaws.

[JAWS-Users] Labeling buttons

2017-07-20 Thread Terry Chaney
I'm trying to remember what Jaws calls it when you provide a label for a
button or other control that hasn't been named properly and thus doesn't
speak. I think I saw it once but can't think of the word to locate it
in the help system. Could someone please remind me?

[JAWS-Users] NFL Game pass

2017-07-09 Thread Terry Chaney
Curious as to if anyone else out there uses the NFL game pass. They've
changed things a lot to make it work better with phones and other
devices making getting archived audio a lot harder. I've completely
failed to make it work thus far but this has often been their history
with improvements later. If anyone else has had some success with this
year's iteration as it is I'd like to know. I've left a comment and
hope it isn't the only won.

P. S. using Jaws 18, windows 10 and Firefox.

[JAWS-Users] Kindle with Jaws

2017-06-21 Thread Terry Chaney
I tried typing Kindle into the search box on the jaws cite and struck
out. Could someone please give me an idea of where I need to go to
learn more about this from a jfw perspective?

I've been able to open books in Kindle, hit a button on the table of
contents and then have a non-Jaws voice begin to read the entry. I
understood that I was supposed to be able to access the text of the book
using Jaws, and also had the option of working with that text for things
like citations. If I'm misunderstanding the possibilities I'd also
appreciate knowing
