Hi, sure would appreciate help. Running J16 and win10 home. Latest j16, haven't
upgradsh to 17 yet. Would like some opinions on which email program works best
with win10 and I realize this is opinion-based. Someone I didn't get my outlook
express over when I went from win7 to 10. I created a full image on an external
drive? Is there a way to get my email back from it? Or, perhaps from DBX files?

Almost done honest. How do I get to system restore in win10? And, how do I get
Itunes to work? I believe I was on the latest version with Itunes but can't get
it to work at all. Thanks for any and all help.

Hi Joanne,
the following is a link to a guide to file explorer in Windows 8.1. It contains
a section describing the ribbon in that program, and I don't think there are
any changes in the ribbon in File explorer in Windows 10.

http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/File-Explorer-8p1-Guide.html

original message:
I hope I won't get in trouble for possibly making this more of a thank you
message, and yes those can clutter an in box. But I do want to say that, for
example, in the case of ribbons, I appreciated David Bales' suggestions and
they worked beautifully. I like that this group presents many approaches to the
handling of apps and various work-arounds using Jaws. We're all learning, and
for those of us who don't always understand new apps or layouts I appreciate
help from those who can present an easier or, to me, familiar way of reaching
my goals.
I wouldn't mind learning more about ribbons and maybe there's a tutorial to
explain them. But they don't make sense to me and I can't picture their layout
or how to find their menus. Someone suggested turning the virtual ribbon
feature off in Jaws and I know many others use it. I'd be glad to hear an
explanation of what exactly they are and how to find the menus you need. I am
using older email programs for this very reason--ribbons don't make sense. So
if there's a tutorial that explains them thoroughly I would check one out if
anyone knows of one.
But in the meantime I'm so relieved there are still other ways to avoid them
till I learn more.

There are some abbreviations and some words that need to be placed in the

Just using the insert d command crashes JFW and you have to wait a good two

Don’t even ask me about the default for the dictionary.
So I was curious to know if anyone else is having problems with the insert key

Thanks.
Now it looks like the problem is with the dictionary when you go to the default

Accessibility and adequacy of windows7's native system image backup utility
Hello,
this week's 'top tech Tidbits' points us to the Windows 7 inbuilt system
image backup utility which comes included as part of windows 7. this is like
say, the 'image for windows' 3rd party program to make an image of the
entire hard drive to quickly restore the entire PC to a good working sate if
the PC or the OS starts acting weird or say the OS wont load up properly.
Below is an excerpt from the article that Top Tech tidbits points to.

1. If you have had personal experience with the native windows 7 system
image backup and restore utility would you pl comment on accessibility with
JFW? Any part of this utility that would prevent a blind person using JFW
from creating an image as well as restoring it?
2. Does this native utility allow one to create a system image backup on an
external USB hard drive? this would be great and allow me to avoid dealing
with a whole bunch of CD's.

'Win7 makes image backups a snap. Open the Control Panel and, under System
and Security, click Back up your computer. In the left pane, select Create
system image and follow the steps.'

I would have to agree, please, please, please take the time to place a
subject in the subject line, that's what it's there for, it is not to be

potentially be not read and deleted without question.

How can I get JAWS to not announce name of a program each time it starts and
ends? Hello.

JFW11 and Windows7. I have successfully installed and am using a 3rd party
screen saver. However each time it activates JAWS announces the name of the
screen saver program and ditto when it deactivates following a keystroke.
is there any way to set JAWS to not announce the name of this program each time
it launches and ends?

I cant find (and this is not surprising) this screen saver program show up in
the list of jcf files under config manager as I believe the list there is pre
fixed by FS.

thx.

2009-11-12 Thread CrisMunoz54
Hello list,

I've been having difficulty with a certain webpage and its' accessibility
when viewing it through Mozilla Firefox. I was going to write FS tech
support about it, but before I did, I thought I'd ask others on the list if
they could have a crack at it and see if they're able to have better success
than me.

It's pretty straight forward. The web address is:
http://www.rcpl.lib.ca.us/

It's the url to my local public library. When I visit it in IE8, there's a
combo box and edit field where one can exicute a search either by title or
author. However, when viewing the same page in Firefox, the combo box and
edit field aren't present at all. I've fiddled around with my various
Firefox add ons to make sure none of them were blocking anything that might
impeed the site from displaying properly, but the form fields still don't
appear.

I'm using JFW 11 and Firefox 3.55 and IE8.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Cristobal

A friend scanned a GE microwave manual and saved the file as a 2003 Word
document. However, when I tried to read the file I was informed by Jaws
that there were 441 objects and when I used the down arrow cursor to
read other material I heard Jaws say Section 1 and it stopped at Section
4.

Whehn I tried to use the Jaws cursor, I could read a line telling me to
plug in the appliance before using it.

Any suggestions for dealing with this vexing problem? Alternatively,
can I get a copy of a GE Microwave manual in a format that can be read
by Jaws?

I don't think JAWS can handle .pdf files to well. It's quite possible
that when the manual was scanned it was turned into individual pictures
of each page, which JAWS can't read. There are many Optical Character
Rendition programs that can convert a scanned picture with text into a
readable document. Perhaps your friend can try using one of them to
convert the .pdf to a .txt file.

2009-07-10 Thread Kate Thegreat

Hi all, I see that a question was asked back
on the 26th of May by another list member and it relates to my problem, but
nobody responded.

If I may, I will ask again. Maybe someone has an answer?

When I try to sign up for yahoo, using firefox, it is refusing to allow me to
pick options from drop down menus. Also, if I put one piece of info in an edit
box on the page, all the rest of the edit boxes appear to have that piece of
info in it. If I try to edit them, all of the edit boxes change to whatever new
piece of information I enter into the given edit box. It's not showing the edit
box for my name, my birth date and year, nor my user ID.

I would just do this all in internet explorer if I could, but I need web visom
so that I can fill in the capcha box.

Note: this is the sign up page, as in I am trying to create a new account, not
filling in the info to log onto an already existing account.

Thank you,

Kate

how could you downloaded JAWS 10 & want to use I toones with JAWS 8.

Hi,

I can't seem to find avg 7.5. I will go to a link where it says download
free 7.5 and then it tells you it is version 8. Then if I let version 8
download, when I go to install it, it is a trial when it said it was free.

Re: [JAWS-Users] (no subject)

2008-03-31 Thread Brian Lee
Hello,

Open the Microsoft Word Configuration Manager. Use Insert with F2 to bring
up the list of managers and then press C until you get to the Configuration
Manager. Press enter to open the Microsoft Word.JCF file. Press Alt with S
to bring up the settings menu and then use the down arrow key to find the
"Text processing" choice and press the enter key. In the resultant dialog
box use the tab key until you get to the "enhanced edit support" checkbox
and press spacebar to uncheck the box. Use the tab key to move to the OK
button and press enter. Use CTRL-S to save changes and close the Microsoft
Word.JCF file.

The above should stop JAWS from announcing the superscript and subscript
text attributes. The enhanced edit mode is checked by default in the
Microsoft Word.JCF settings but not in the Default.JCF.

Take care.

Brian Lee

2008-03-31 Thread sue morgan
Hi.

There have been a few posts to this list about Jaws announcing subscript and
superscript when reading a word document. I've posted several messages but I
can't get rid of it. I've been into the speech and sounds manager in Jaws
configuration and changed the attributes to ignore. I then scanned another
document into word and Jaws still announced subscript and superscript. I then
when back into the speech and sounds manager settings and deleted the
attributes so that they're no longer in the list and Jaws is still saying
subscript and superscript when I scan a document into word.

Please can someone tell me how to stop this as it's frustrating me now.

Thanks.

Sue.

Hi, everyone. I was checking on the blocking sender under the mail heading
and entered it only to be told I had blocked future messages from a sender
whom I do not wish to block. How can I reverse this mistake? There was no
prompt to cancel my dumb move. And that will surely teach me a lesson about
entering things. marilyn
