Guess I'll stick with Firefox 3.6 as long as I can. I disabled the
automatic update feature, so Firefox won't take off and install version 4.0
on its own.

Hi everybody,

I am using Jaws11.

However, I found problems which could be found at Jaws9, too. In Fireox 4
for example in the history tree, (which can be opened by pressing Ctrl+H),
Jaws behaves like in a form and the navigation in the list is almost
impossible. At previous versions of firefox I didn't find problems like
this, except for the configuration page of the firefox.

Further more, according to my experiences firefox 4 more often crashes
than the older version (3.6) did.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Firefox 4 and JAWS 9

2011-05-02 Thread Doris and Chris

There is an update to Firefox 3.6 available as of three days or so ago.

Make sure you uncheck automatic updates from

Tools/options/advanced on the update tab

You can still manually chekc for updates from firefox's help menu.
this will alert you to security updates of firefox 3.6 which will
probably stil be forthcoming for a while at least.

Firefox 4 has some issues still even with the latest builds of jaws
11 and 12. If you want to test its compatibility with jaws 9, you can
try that with the portable version of firefox 4 without interfering
with your install of firefox 3.6.

It works with JAWS 10, 11 and 12 quite nicely, it should also work with
earlier versions as well, I just helped my girlfriend update her Webvisum.
She was having trouble so, I did a tandem session with her, since then, it
worked.

I hope this information is helpful.

FF4 compatibility. Can anyone confirm if it also works with JFW 12 and not
just Window Eyes?

This was one of the big issues for not upgrading to 4.0, but if it's in fact
resolved, then is there any other compatibility/accessibility issue that may
give pause to upgrading?

I've been holding off on upgrading because of the broken add-on and I
believe there were problems with some keystrokes, but can't recall right now
what they were.

There are still some issues with accessibility also. and, of course,
the lack of webvisum is a major show stopper.

Firefox 3.6 will continue to receive security fixes for some time to
come, I am sure, just as Firefox 3.5 did.

For anyone wanting to try out Firefox 4, they can do so using the
portable version wihtout jeopardizing their regular install of 3.6.
