Strange about the shift+f10 but if someone can help you to set the fn keys in the bios to behave in standard mode, that should help and would be the initial thing to try. Regarding the turning off of the mouse pad, there are a couple of way to do it. You could go in to the device manager, locate the touchpad device, depending on hardware, it may be called Synaptec Touchpad. Right click that and in the properties, choose to disable it. You should be able to do this as well using an fn and function key, sometimes f6 but if you have someone sighted, they should be able to help you by looking at the symbols on the function keys them selves. I Wouldn't try them at random as you may end up turning off something else like wireless without realising. If you can find your HP model number and Google it with the key words like function keys or disable mousepad, that may help as well.
