Re: [JAWS-Users] How do I prevent Firefox from automatically upgrading
Jerald, there is a method for turning off the auto update feature in the options dialog that was posted out here a few days ago. inthane -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Gerald Levy Sent: Thursday, February 28, 2013 4:39 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] How do I prevent Firefox from automaticallyupgrading Sherry, I'm the guy who explained that you can have two different versions of Firefox on your computer at the same time: the regular version, which you are currently using, and the portable version, which you must install. I suggest that you simply leave your regular version of Firefox 19 intact because unless you roll all the way back to Firefox 3.6, it will keep updating itself back to Firefox 19 every time you launch it. So leave Firefox 19 alone and use it to access web sites that you know it works with. Instead, download the portable version of Firefox 15 from the site below and use it to access those sites with which Firefox 19 is giving you trouble. Installing the portable version of Firefox 15 will not overlay your existing regular version of Firefox 19, and it will work exactly like the regular version of Firefox 15. You can even create a shortcut key to launch it once you have installed it. I misspoke in my earlier post, though. Although you can have both regular and portable versions of Firefox on your computer at the same time, you cannot run them at the same time; you can only run one version of Firefox at a time, although you can run either the regular or portable version of Firefox at the same time as IE. You can download the portable version of Firefox 15 from: http://mozilla-firefox-portable.en.uptodown.com/old Gerald - Original Message - From: Sharon Gosling sillygoo...@gmail.com To: jawslist jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Thursday, February 28, 2013 7:07 AM Subject: [JAWS-Users] How do I prevent Firefox from automatically upgrading Since Firefox 19 constantly freezes using my Win 7 64 bit Dell laptop with Jaws 14 I reinstalled Firefox 15 which was the original version I had installed. I checked and it said Firefox 15. I went through all the options and could not find any that mentioned automatic upgrades. But when I opened Firefox the next time it just said Upgrading and it went back to 19. No choice offered at all. So how do I make it stay at version 15? I really need it for at least 6 websites that I frequently use. When Firefox freezes it won't quit with any keystrokes including Alt control escape or alt control delete or alt F4 or anything else. I have to restart the computer and that is a royal pain. I was advised in a previous message that one could have several different versions of Firefox on the computerat the same time. When I installed Firefox 15 after having Firefox 19 already on the computer it replaced the version 19. I went to the control panel remove programs and checked the list to see which versions showed up and it only showed version 15 so I assumed it had replaced the version 19. But the first time I tried using it after that it went back to 19. Help, please. Re: [JAWS-Users] How do I prevent Firefox from automatically upgrading
I was able to reinstall the regular version of FF 15 I had on my computer and followed the directions to prevent updates. It seems to have worked. 15 just installed over 19. I did go to the site to download the portable version of Firefox and downloaded version portable 15 and portable 16. But when I clicked on them it went to an upload/download page which said version 19 would be installed. So I am glad I was able to put the regular version 15 on. Now to see if it works and doesn't freeze. But I do think Jaws should work on keeping the compatibility with upgrades of IE 9 and Firefox for security reasons. Open firefox, on the tools menu find, options, once you do open it, you're presented with a list box, use your up down arrows until you find advanced, tab down once find a page which says general. Control tab until you find the update tab, once found, tab once find the 3 radiobutton choices which are, audomaticly check for install updates, check for updates but ask me what to do do nothing, make your choice tab until you find the ok button. As far as how many versions you can have run on your system, I'm not the answerman for that perhaps someone else can help you. - Original Message - From: Sharon Gosling sillygoo...@gmail.com To: jawslist jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Thursday, February 28, 2013 07:07 Subject: [JAWS-Users] How do I prevent Firefox from automatically upgrading Since Firefox 19 constantly freezes using my Win 7 64 bit Dell laptop with Jaws 14 I reinstalled Firefox 15 which was the original version I had installed.
