Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Update Issue
I've had it fail a couple of times, but if the download didn't complete, you wouldn't be able to install the update at all. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List On Behalf Of Andy Baracco Sent: July 18, 2018 5:57 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Update Issue I have never had trouble with the JAWS update utility. I have never had trouble with the JAWS update utility. The update feature in Jaws doesn't always work correctly, and the download process appears to be rather slow compared to directly downloading the executable. [JAWS-Users] JAWS Update Issue
Afternoon all. Upon installing the latest update via the laptop update reminder, I had the system restart. After restarting, I got (via sighted assistance) an error message about a dll file being missing. So, again with sighted assistance, I had to go to the fs sight, download my version of JAWS 2018, and run a repair. Has anyone ever gotten this message, and is there a way to prevent this from happening again. Using JAWS 2018 and Windows 10 on a Dell laptop. Thanks in advance. [JAWS-Users] Jaws Update Issue
Deanne, What happens if you shut off your laptop and reboot? Second, if the problem persists, try running a repair on Jaws. To do a repair, use the Windows run command and tab to the Browse button. Navigate to where you have a full download of the Jaws file saved. Go to the open combobox and hit the end key, then type /type repair and press enter. -- Lansing, Michigan Clear, 77.0°F Wind:SSW-210° at 10mph Never mess up an apology with an excuse. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Update Issue
Rebooting had exactly the same result. I tried it twice. As far as the run command, I had no ability to use the keyboard because jaws wouldn't allow it. It would simply announce unknown function and then say what the key should do. I couldn't even shut jaws down. A sighted friend of mine came over just a little while ago and used the touch pad to do a repair on jaws. At least the touch pad and mouse buttons were still working. Apparently, something had happened to one of the script files during the update. It took a while, but it finally finished the repair, restarted, and now seems to be running fine. We'll see what happens when I reboot later. I probably would have prevented this whole problem if I had run a repair on jaws before I updated it. Just a thought. In the future, that's what I'll do. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm sure they would have worked if I had been able to use the keyboard.
