Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws not reading the start menu search

2011-03-14 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Carlos,

The primary focus of the Windows start menu search box is to show results
from the Program groups of the start menu and results from the control
panel. Other results are also shown from library locations, folders, etc.,
but results from the program groups and control panel are shown first. If
you notice when you use up or down arrow key with JAWS in the list of
results, JAWS does not speak information on some of the lines. If you read
those lines using the Read current line command, you will hear the group
that the following items apply to and how many results were found in that
group. The short list in the Windows start menu search list might say there
are for example 10 results and yet only show 3 of them. Pressing enter key
on the lines that show the name of the result group and the number of
results in that group will list all the found items for that group only.
The see more results link list results that are not in the control panel
or all programs list.

I have a document with several pages in it that contains notes on using
Windows search. If you are interested in it, I am including a link below to
the file. There are many search filters available to find specific items.
For example, if my name was in your Outlook contacts list you could type
Lastname:Lee firstname:Brian to quickly find it.

My notes about using the search in the start menu search box starts on page
six. You can list links using JAWS key f7 and find links to use for the
different categories of information in the document. You can also list
headings using JAWS key with function key 6 and choose a heading to move to
or move heading to heading using quick navigation keys. JAWS key Z puts you
into or takes you out of quick navigation keys mode. In that mode, use H to
move forward or shift with H to move backward through the document heading
by heading.

Take care.

Listers,

I really don't understand this. Jaws will not read the start menu search
field. When I put a word in the search field, that word may show up or I may
have to tab three times for the list of word that is suppose to be in the
start menu field.

A lot of times, I can type a word in the start menu search, another word
that I didn't type will show up. What is this, can this be explain?!

Thanks?!

Carliss

Hello Carlos,

If you had any trouble with the link in the previous message I sent, I have
